News & Updates PSA: Why We Don't Allow Erotic Roleplaying

This was an odd thing to see in my pm, but rest assure I will abide by the law and rules you have set forth and implemented on this site

Sounds good! I'd never do it anyway, I was just curious.

Speaking of Fifty Shades of Grey... I read an article and once I found out it was originally written as a Twilight fanfiction, I was like nope.

I heard about that too. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. No offense to Twilight fans

 oh no, I understand that.

pardon me, I guess I was trying to make a simple minded joke to add some light to this weird, dark topic

Ahhhh, I see. No problem then; I'm used to people not really reading posts and asking the same questions over and over again ~

I don't hate Twilight fans (even though the fandom can be quite annoying) but the books themselves. <-< So OP and Mary Sue and gah. The books weren't as bad as the movie, though.

I understand all this and I'm so glad RPN has these rules, as a 14 (Soon to be 15) year old it's hard to find a site where I can actually enjoy myself without people trying to make a move on a character every few posts (Which is really annoying) Though I do question where this line stands, Are kissing scenes still allowed? (I'm referring to the more 'intense' ones, not the pecks which are of course fine~) As this does not actually include erotic content, occasionally it can get rather heated but it still wouldn't pass more than what I've seen occur in real life or even PG 13+ anime and T.V shows?~ I have been on the site for quite a while now and I see varying limits of where one can go to before it's ether a strike or a fade out needed.

Also, what does this rule mean in terms to the ever so popular, 'Fade to black' as in PM's this rule seems to get stretched quite a bit, I always try to make sure to cut off before anything gets over the top but I'm uncertain where exactly this border stands. Even in group Rp's the point of fading to black seems to be rather tilted in one direction or another, in another case, say a character has a timeskip and in that time they'd had children with another, would the whole experience be unmentionable or would a subtle hint be allowed without actually stating the details of the event (E.g. 'Remember that 'fun' night we had together?~' and then stopping speaking of it after that) Or even something in reference for those who RP pregnant character (Which I've seen more than once) How much details of the birthing would be allowed as this is technically something considered, 'educational' in other means of media? (Though this topic frankly grosses me out a little as someone who is still in the process of Sex-ed classes~ 0-0 "^w^….) Also, would topics that are covered within a document on the subject or a health class be allowed? Considering these are rated for children within the 12-16 age?

Overall what I'm asking is where is the line where 'Fade to black' MUST be used?~ "^w^ ((Please also take into consideration I am Australian and as such my laws differ from that of America's so I'm not sure how things apply for you, as in WA, where I live, everyones pretty open about the subject and topics regarding such matters aren't handled nearly as violently, (though of course the more serious ones stated do.)

I get that. Personally, I don't like either (due to the unhealthy relationship between the two main characters and a few other minor details) but I know people who do.

So is PG-13 or R the limit here, and what does that even mean? What constitutes 'erotic'? Just kinda drawing the line at making out and everyone keeps their clothes on?

Uh... okay, I'm not planning on anything X rated in my RP, so why am I getting this?

Also I'm 21, so why am I getting this?

?

This is for the entire site, everyone gets it, as it is one of the most popular questions we've had over the last few years.

Because some people were pushing for sexy steamy times on some thread a while back, and Dwiz wanted to clarify and set the record straight.

Is that clear enough?

I know on a site I used to be a part of, we had an 18+ area for these kind of rps. Basically, the site rules stated that no one under the age of 18 was allowed to view or post in it. No, there was no way to verify someone's age with absolute certainty, but it put the legality ball in the court of the individual, so to speak. If there was ever a problem that actually went as far as court, the individual in question would basically be forced to claim ignorance of the site rules (which is not a valid excuse), or that they lied about their age-making them the guilty party. Even in the thread main title were the words "18+". Yet another required that members add "18+" to an rp thread title as a warning to minors if the rp would or may contain certaon manners of explicit content. Personally, I don't care much, but could the same system be implemented here for those who want to use it? Legally speaking?

No.

Erotic content is not allowed on RpN, and never will be.

Cool. But I was asking about the legality.

I have a potentially really stupid question.

Is alluding to the fact okay? No actual pornographic material involved, but making it obvious that something did indeed transpire?

Let's say my character and someone else's character are romantically involved and I write a response similar to this one:

"Alex had had plenty of hookups. Hookups that were filled with far more than what he’d just done with Peter, which had, admittedly led to a rather fast and very satisfying climax for what he hoped was both of them, but at the very least applied to him. But never, before now had he experienced the feeling of absolute adoration that encompassed him. He’d wrapped his arms around the teenager when he said they should get inside and cleaned up before the others noticed. “Fuck the others.” He whispered, his hands trailing down Peter’s bare back. His lips touched Peter’s forehead. “I’d rather stay here with you forever.” He informed the teenager, but he knew it wasn’t possible. Not just because they would undoubtedly be found, but because they were covered in the remnants of their passion, and as pleasant as the experience had been, he didn’t want to stay a dirty mess.

Finally, his lips found Peter’s and he’d agreed to release him, but only after another kiss. Johnny pulled his tired body up off the ground, and buttoned his pants back up. He slipped his shirt back on, and headed inside."

On that subject, is alluding to the idea of sexual abuse okay?

This, at least for me, is always done far more vaguely with far less detail than a consensual scene. For example:

" He tried to push what they’d just to him out of his mind, but it was hard to do, while standing before the mirror, covered in the bruises they’d painted his body with, still feeling each of their hands along him."

I realize these are probably stupid questions. Sorry :/

Erotic content: Touching genitalia, describing genitalia. (All genitals, including man-parts and woman-parts, even breasts.)

Otherwise, it's not erotic content.

I think maybe you need a common sense PSA, lol.

The site is not PG-13. The only thing you cannot write is erotic content. Erotic content starts at the point where you are describing genital areas (including breasts) and describing characters touching those areas.

Honestly I've always loved the stance this site has on such..gross stuff in roleplays.

I'm 18 and even I'm uncomfortable with that crap. I'm glad this kind of rule has always been in place because I don't want to be having an innocent RP and someone try to force it to change to something..adult because not everyone likes that. I also like this kind of rule being in because.. I was able to bring someone whos most precious to me who is 14 over to this site and she doesn't have to see that stuff. She can happily roleplay with me on here because of it. I'm very grateful because of that..because I can spend more time with her. Sure I could roleplay with her via email or a chat place but... then it'd just be us two and I also wanted to help get her more friends. With this site I can do that. So thank you <3 truly..thank you <3

Question: Is it against the rules, then, to say that a woman is breastfeeding her baby within an rp on the site? Or to rp a nurse teaching a woman how to breastfeed? Not that I can think of a situation where someone would want to do it, but I'm one day hoping to be an OB nurse that does that sort of thing and the fact that it would be labeled "erotic" disturbs me more than a little.

Wait, is even nudity considered eroticness? Like, not describing anything but simply stating that a character is nude as if they're changing or something...? I don't think so, but it's nice to know for sure.

Lmao, I'm going to sound like a creeper or something here, but physical closeness- hands off the crotch type stuff is fine then? I just haven't been RP'ing for very long. Sorry about all of the questions. :P

No? That's not sexual at all, and I really doubt you'd be describing her breasts. Unless you were describing genitals or they're being touched in a sexual manner.

Nudity is not erotic, describing their body in detail is.
