Work in Progress
"Hurry up, Seth, don't you have a buddy you're supposed to be meeting?" Rhiannon asked as she heaved her suitcase out of the trunk of the car. Leave it to him to completely forget about his responsibilities, she thought with an eye roll.
Rhi quickly hugged her mum goodbye, and stood waving as she drove off. Immediately when the car was out of sight, she turned and strode off across the parking lot towards the dorm buildings, her suitcase in tow. "I'm going to get my things unpacked, and I'd advise you to do the same. Oh, and you should probably text your buddy that you're coming just so he doesn't think you've bailed on him," she said over her shoulder to Seth, who was following at a more leisurely pace.
As she turned her head to look behind her at Seth, the customary flash of blue caught her eye. The cobalt thread that connected her to Tai had just appeared. She and Tai were friends, but she couldn't see anything happening between the two of them just yet. She was jerked out of her thoughts by another appearance of color, this time black. She abruptly stopped walking, causing Seth to bump into her from behind. She gaped at her hand, before quickly closing her mouth and regaining her composure. She had two threads! And neither of them were even red! This would take a while to get used to.
Seth tapped his foot uncomfortably, wishing they would just get there already. He hated long car trips. When they finally arrived at Providence, he leaped out of the car, finally free of its stuffy confines. He could hardly wait to meet up with all his football buddies again, maybe they could even organize a casual game sometime soon.
"...buddy you're supposed to be meeting?" He was snapped out of his thoughts by the tail end of Rhi's question. Ugh, he had completely forgotten about meeting up with Philip. He quickly got out his phone and sent him a text. On my way. Sorry I'm late.
He was so busy with texting Philip that he didn't notice that Rhi had stopped short in front of him. He crashed into her, barely managing to keep his balance. He was about to comment on her lack of warning when he saw the look of astonishment of her face. He followed her gaze to her hand, but of course he couldn't see what was making her so surprised. He knew about Tai, of course, had known since first year, but he guessed that Rhi had gotten another thread now. It wasn't unheard of for people to have two threads. He decided not to say anything about it; he might bring it up later when Rhi was more accustomed to the idea.
All these thoughts of threads made him glance at his own hand, and, as expected, the blue thread had appeared. The familiar urge to just follow it already popped up, and he had to hold himself back from sprinting after the blue line that disappeared across the quad. When the time is right, he reminded himself.
