(Now, since the official world map of PW hasn’t been released yet, I can only say this is pure speculation, or set in a similar universe where the World on Fire is situated.)
The Cascadian Conflict concluded in the CIF pyrrhic victory, which saw the use of cordiun-tipped weaponry by the Pacific Federation, resulted in a combined death toll of 1.5 million lives across both sides, along with much of the country being practically reduced to glass and no longer habitable.
The atrocities committed by the Federation shocked the world, massive secession movement begin to rise from within the Federation, and from without by Periphery nations with Cascadian backing. With a severely weakened military and having lost most of their Peacekeepers, the Federation was now on the defensive in the face of total collapse.
One such member state that seek independence is the island country of Akitsushima at the eastern tip of the Eurasia continent. While lack in geothermal and cordium resources, the relatively small island nation was the leader in innovation and technology, one of the largest economy in the world after calamity, and an early member during the founding of the Federation.
The Federation cannot afford their secession, civil war broke out, between the Federation-backed Republic of Akitsushima and the Imperial Akitsushima government, with the eager help from the Cascadian Foreign Legion seeing the opportunity to add a major blow to the dissolution of the Pacific Federation. Thanks to the action of Sicario Mercenary Corps during the Cascadian Conflict, mercenaries all over the world found themselve at the pedestal after their long decline since Oceania War, and this time they are ready to seized the opportunity in the Akitsushima Conflict.
