Gormlaith Gaunt is a descendent of Slytherin, and the aunt of Ilvermorny's founder, Isolt. After murdering Isolt's parents and raising the girl in an abusive and heavily purist household, the woman spent much of her later years roaming the globe in search of her rebellious niece, who ran to America at the first chance she got. When the two met again at Ilvermorny, they engaged in a duel until Gormlaith was killed by the Pukwudgie William.

Her spirit remains at the school, and can often be found by the snakewood tree that sprouted from the remains of Slytherin's buried wand, wailing and grieving the loss of a pure legacy. She is highly volatile, especially towards muggles, muggleborns or half-bloods. However, her form renders her harmless and taunting her has become a common game for Ilvermorny's more lively students.

Other:
No one has seen the ghost of Thunderbird, affectionately nicknamed Susie. It only appears as a petite, shadowy frame far in the distance, or peeking out from behind a wall, with startling glowing orbs where its eyes should be. Many an adventurous Thunderbird has hunted it down, attempting to gain a better idea of what it is and what it looks like, but all they have ever gotten for their efforts is the customary glimpse of shadows, and high pitched giggle.

Very little is known about the ghost of Thunderbird. It has been present since Ilvermorny was but a three room cottage, and Isolt's oldest son (the founder of Thunderbird) dedicated a number of his teenage years to trying to catch a glimpse of its face. When the boy graduated, he demanded that any Thunderbirds that came after him should continue his efforts, and so when it was decided that, in the vein of Hogwarts, ghosts should be assigned to houses, Susie seemed the obvious choice.

There are a number of theories based on what it is. Some guess it's the ghost of one of the murdered Boot parents, though others say it's frame and voice cannot match. Others say its not a ghost at all, but some form of boggart, or a new species entirely. But nonetheless, it has only been friendly to the students of Ilvermorny.

Spoiler: The Ghosts of Pukwudgie

Personality:
For a being with no mouth, Fred is awfully talkative; his voice echoing from the hollow chasm of his neck. He's friendly, upbeat and a whee bit immature. Bee is quieter (few can claim to have heard her speak), but has a calming, welcoming aura.

Other:
The two were professors at Ilvermorny many dozens of years ago, and were so utterly devoted that they even died in each other's arms. The details are foggy (some claim murder, others a duel gone wrong), but one thing is for sure; even today, the couple are seldom seen without the presence of the other.

Mute and subdued; his life and promise was stolen from him. If you offer to listen to his performance, though, you'll have a solid and grateful ally on your side

Other:
Richard is, unfortunately, the ghost of a student. He died as a sixth year, defending a few of his classmates against a Hidebehind after they snuck out to meet some female peers. It was his death, and the want to commemorate his spirit, that spurred the incorporation of official house ghosts

He can be found wandering Ilvermorny aimlessly, a vacant expression on his face. He is enthusiastic only about his music, now it seems, and will give a ghostly smile if asked to perform

Mournful and mopey, bitterly jealous of the youth that surround her, but will speak of her past exploits with vigor

Other:
Sierra was once a powerful warrior, who traveled the world, seeking out the most dangerous of beasts to vanquish. With old age came frailty, though, and she eventually found herself teaching DADA at Ilvermorny, withered both inside and out. She was planning on quitting - being surrounded by children, who were so young and spry and could do so easily what she could not, was driving her man. Unfortunately, a crumbling stone wall would kill the once magnificent Sierra the day before she was to leave, and she would be trapped at Ilvermorny for eternity.

Occupation:
William is one of the Pukwudgies that cares for the school; all of them grumbling, all of them insisting that they have no wish to remain there and yet all of them mysteriously present year after year.

Personality:
Course, bitter, arrogant

Other:
William laughs at the idea that he is the original William who saved Isolt and James’s lives, rightly pointing out that the first William would be over 300 years old had he survived. However, nobody has ever found out exactly how long Pukwudgies live.

He refuses to let anybody else polish the marble statue of Isolt at the entrance of the school, and on the anniversary of her death every year he may be seen laying mayflowers on her tomb, something that puts him in a particularly bad temper if anyone is tactless enough to mention it.

Sometimes he can be found by the snakewood tree, exchanging words with Gormlaith. No one has ever gotten close enough to hear what they say
