Background:

Arthur Camden was born in, and grew up in New York city. He lived a fairly normal middle class life in the suburbs, as his parents were successful lawyers. At age 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a communications specialist. Later, he briefly served in Desert Storm. After leaving the army, Arthur married his high school sweetheart Mary, and they eventually had a daughter, Kaitlyn. He joined the police force, and after a few years, made detective. He was a rowdy and jovial character. Things were looking up for Arthur. Then one day in 2000, he and his brother Scott went on a camping trip up in the Adirondack Mountains, at Big Moose Lake. While fishing at night and drinking beer, the two were attacked by an unknown entity and Scott was taken. The local police searched the area and dredged the lake, but Scott wasn't found. Arthur is not entirely sure what happened, as he blacked out. They never found Scott. Last thing he remembers is seeing Scott being dragged off into the lake, screaming for help. This event profoundly disturbed and changed Arthur. He started drinking smoking, and brooding. He would get into bar fights, or come home drunk. While he stayed on the police force, his marriage to Mary went south, and they divorced. She moved south to Philadelphia to be with her family and took Kaitlyn with her. After this, Arthur was offered an early retirement from the police force, and he took it. Rather than sit around he decided to open up his own private agency, specializing in insurance cases. He decided to do right by Kaitlyn and dove into his work, intending to save up enough to put her through college. He cleaned up his drinking a bit, and eventually quit smoking. As his mind began to clear and process, he found he had developed a unique ability to find connection and impressions on objects. (more later).

Goals:

With his recent brush with the supernatural during a supposedly routine case, and his emerging psychometry abilities, Arthur is realizing there is more out there in the shadows than he realizes.This has suddenly renewed his interest in reopening the case of his brother's disappearance, and has perhaps drawn him out to look into cases other than insurance related ones. While middle age and bad living habits have taken their toll on him, he believes that, given time, he can turn things around again. He also wants to put his daughter through law school.



Description:

Arthur has short dark brown, but graying hair, with a slightly receding hairline. He tends to wear his hair fairly close cut. He is very tall, over six feet, and has a heavy frame, but is rather obese. Sometimes this causes him to walk with a slight waddle. He sometimes appears taller (up to 6'5") due to the large and and tall-heeled shoes he tends to wear. He is always clean shaven, and has a strong square jaw and a slightly large nose, that looks as if it has been broken at least once in the past. He has large but flat ears, and has rather bushy eyebrows and deep-set hazel eyes. Despite his age, Arthur still has perfect vision. He has rather large hands and feet. When on business, he wears a white dress shirt and a clip-on tie, along with dark grey or black trousers, and black dress shoes. He also wears a light brown trenchcoat. While he used to smoke, he doesn't any longer due to health concerns about his weight. When not on business, he tends to wear regular shoes, jeans, and polo shirts.

Distinguishing Characteristics:



Has a black U.S. Army insignia tattoo on his right shoulder. Wears an expensive gold commemorative Rolex watch with his initials on it. Has some scars on his hands and sunken knuckles from old fist fights and manual labor. Has a bullet wound scar on his right thigh. He is right handed.

Other Notes:

I had some more detailed background information, along with some fine tuned details posted on the previous chronicle here (Dark Web Chronicle) but it looks like, even though the OOC and Roleplay threads survived the site transition, the characters tab did not, so I am unsure where those revisions went. I will try to recreate them when I can.

Her parents named her Sydney because they thought it sounded glamorous, like Hollywood. Sydney Shaw grew up in the city apartments of New York City. Though her neighborhood wasn't the worst in the city, it certainly wasn't the best. They spent the money saved from renting in a nicer neighborhood to put Sydney through private school and keep her out of the shit hole public school system. To keep from getting bullied at school because of her family's living arrangements, she would lift weights in her room and practice boxing by watching an old VHS training video while punching her pillow. She got straight A's at school and went to college right after highschool with the money she had been saving since she was 8. Well, that money afforded her one term at Berkeley College before she had to switch schools to Wagner College to afford finishing her degree in Criminal Justice. She took unofficial police training and honed her firearm and grapple and takedown skills. She managed to get a job as an investigator after graduation, but soon realized she should have majored in forensic science if she wanted to be a useful investigator AT ALL, so she's a bit jaded from that. She spent 6 years struggling in her job, fighting the corruption of the "justice" system, before saying "fuck it" and quit. She took a job as a part-time bodyguard and hasn't regretted the change since. However, now she's restless, because standing around all day was never her thing.


At some point, visit Hollywood to see if everyone owns a mansion like her parents truly believed.  She knows it's unlikely, but it's been a childhood dream of hers for a long time.  She might as well save a little money for a plane ticket and find out.
