Realistic or Modern &nbsp; Pride Lions RP Thread

"Is this really the best I can get for my pride?"
A confident lion's voice sounded behind Grace as Kay sauntered to the water's edge.
"I hate the dry season." He sneezed and shook his golden mane, wrinkling one side of his nose as the dust swirled about them.
He found a small pool that had yet to be disturbed by the feet of thirsty animals, of course almost every creature had moved off when they smelled the lions approaching. No easy meals today.
"At least the elephants aren't here yet, am I right?"
The last time he had come for water the elephants were here, and Kay had nearly been flattened trying to drive them away so his pride could drink. Not the smartest move he had to admit...but it looked cool.

"Kayzu." The lioness dipped her head respectfully.
"How have you been?"
She kept her blue gaze trained on the new leader. He'd just taken over the pride- and admittedly, Grace didn't know him very well.
Justice seemed to think highly of him, however.
"No, not here quite yet. Luckily for us; Clouded picked a huge fight with them last season. They dislike us now."
Grace's gaze flicked to the low pool of water distastefully.

Hana
Hana had been following behind Kazyu, her gaze bored in a way. She didn't want to get a drink alone, so she decided to stick with the ruler. As the two had their conversation, she crouched down, getting a quick drink.

After the fluffy lioness had finished, she patiently laid near the watering hole, waiting for someone to either order or talk to her. Hana huffed, dust blowing away from her nose.

"You mean more than they did before?" Kayzu sounded shocked, but he was grinning. "You're not worried about the Clouded lions, are you?"
Once their healer had had a drink Kay padded to the edge of the water and gingerly put a paw in it, before stepping into the shallow pool. He winked at Hana, a roguish look in his eye, and then with one paw swipe, flicked water at Grace.
"She did it!" He pointed at Hana, jumping back with a splash. It was clearly a lie, everyone had seen him.

Grace fluffed out her fur and pounced at him playfully. "I'll eat you tail, you little bug!"
Despite her fighting stance and fluffed out fur, her ears were forward and her tone was light.
"If you're gonna be rude, you better be ready to fight me for it!"
She growled jokingly and lifted a paw. Grace's claws were sheathed.

The lioness was amused to say the least, she let out a light chuckle before turning her attention over to the "fight".

"I'm betting on Grace~" She said, an edge of happiness to her voice.

She then sat up, and stretched, she had been laying down for quite a while.. maybe she should start getting out more? Hana silently laughed at the statement. The healer's den was dark for a reason, she thought, and that reason was to sleep alll day.

"Not my tail! It's too pretty!" Kayzu backed up in mock-fear.
"Help! Hana! I'm sorry! Save me from my foolishness! Please!"
He ducked behind the fluffy lioness laughing. It didn't matter if it was hot, and dry, if he was with his pride, everything was good.

Grace pounced on him, bowling him over in the dirt.
She sat calmly on him, licking a paw.
"Rar." The golden lioness remarked dryly. "I won, right Hana?"
She turned to the fluffy healer for approval.

Hana pretended not to hear Kayzu, even looking away from the male as to act like she could not hear him. She then nodded, "I would be wrong if I said you didn't" She said, before standing up and yawning.

"Are we done drinking Grace? I suppose it's almost time for my daily naps" The lioness began to walk off, stopping and waiting for Grace to catch up.

Grace stepped off of Kayzu gracefully. Haha. She was graceful.
The golden lioness padded after her pridemate.
"Of course, Hana. Wouldn't want you to miss one."
Her gaze darted back to Kayzu, who'd just gotten up and was following them.

Hana nodded once more, and began to walk back to their grounds.

On the way, Hana decided to strike up a conversation, something she rarely bothered to do.

"So.. do you happen to know when the next gathering is? I bet Ikila and Grayling have something healer-ly to share with me.." She silently cringed at her attempt, who talks about gatherings? She made a mental note to bring up something more interesting next time she even thought about speaking first.

"I think soon- probably not more than a couple of days."
She fixed her gaze on where the rest of the Regal Pride was lounging in the shade.
Grace let her gaze flick to Kayzu walking behind them again. The lioness laid down on the outskirts of the lions, scanning the horizon with her gaze.

"OOF!" Kayzu made a noise as the air left him under Grace's paws.
"Hana...you're so cruel..." he was still laughing, if a little breathlessly from having the wind knocked out of him.
He got up when they began to move, shaking a great cloud of dust from his mane.
The vultures were glaring at him from the limb of a dead tree, waiting to finish their drink.
"At ease." He said to them as he padded after his pride.

The shade was welcome and Kayzu flopped down near to where Grace lay.
"I have a crazy idea." He said after a pause. He'd said that a lot since taking over as pride leader.
"I want to propose a unified hunt, that all the prides can take part in, during the meet. Sort of a gesture of peace. You two are the smartest lionesses I know. What do you think?"

Grace actually seemed to be considering it.
"Well," she said slowly. "I'm not sure if Clouded would go for it. Dismal would- I'm sure even you can notice they've been sucking up to us lately."
She flicked her tail back and forth thoughtfully. "It's a good idea in theory, but there'd be so many opportunities for betrayal."
The golden defender tipped her head to the side, and flicked her gaze to Hana for a heartbeat.
"What do you think?"

Hana yawned, already laying beside the lion and lioness. She simply nodded before opening her mouth to speak, "Ah.. I'd suppose it would help bring the prides together in some shape or form.." She replied. She then laid her head down in her arms, blinking twice.

"In other words, I'm all for it" She added. The fluffy lioness then rolled over onto her back, as if she was stretching in some weird way.

Grace shrugged passively and settled deeper into the dirt.
"If you think it's a good idea, Kayzu, I'll do it. Not the choice I'd make though- Perhaps if you talk to Smokey and Abyss separately you can get them both to agree."
She licked at a paw and drew it over her ear.

But she was right, and he thought for a moment. "It makes no sense for Clouded to attack so openly, even if they are eyeing new territory. Pulling something like that during a meet is a great way to get all the prides against you. I'd guess they would use the opportunity to study the strength of the other prides. Maybe see what choice we'll make in all this."
Kayzu rolled onto his back too, obviously copying Hana, trying to annoy her.

"Hey Grace...what do you think we should do about Dismal pride? I've been thinking about it a lot. It's not much of a secret that Clouded is looking to expand, and that Dismal is their first target. If we help, we'd be making an enemy of the Clouded pride, but if we don't, what's to stop the Clouded pride from turning their sights on our land once Smokey defeats Abyss?"

"I don't think Smokey will openly attack Abyss for his pride. It's a bad look for Clouded. I think he's going to wait for the Gathering and then... Oh."
A horrible idea struck Grace and she sat up.
"Should we still propose the group hunt? What if Smokey corners Abyss and kills him, then what? Dismal is small; if we take in their lions you and Justice will have targets on your heads, and if Clouded takes them in they'll just have more lions to attack us with."
A branch snapped behind her and Grace whipped her head towards the noise.
When she saw it was just a cub, her tail flicked in annoyance. The lioness's heart was still thundering.

Hana rolled her eyes at Kayzu's action, she decided to think nothing of it and continued listening to their conversation about important matters. She closed her eyes, her head still resting on her paws.

The fluffy lioness didn't think too much about other prides, as she sometimes never concerned herself with them. She thought about those lions and lionesses without prides.. Prideless, is what they were called. She wondered how those "Prideless" animals were doing, it must be hard.. to not have a place you can truly call home.

"There's a lot that can happen with a gathering of prides. I'd say we just meet with a pride one at a time.. to see what they're really capable of."

After being ignored by Hana, Kay stopped, a little crestfallen he got no response. He didn't try again.

"I was thinking about that too." Kayzu admitted. "About Smokey cornering Abyss, that's why I'm not letting that old lion out of my sight. Smokey's strong, but he'd have to be pretty stupid to attack Abyss right in front of Justice and me. I trust you can handle the lionesses Grace."
He found a rounded stone and batted it, watching it roll away before getting up to pounce on it and swipe it in Grace's direction.
"Even if we don't call for a hunt, I think if Smokey wanted to attack Abyss, he'd find a way during the meet, we should all be vigilant."

Grace slammed her paw down, catching the stone he'd flung her way under it.
"How do we do it without insulting Abyss, though? He's very proud and wouldn't easily accept our help."
The lioness scooped up the stone and batted it back towards Kayzu.
"Hana? Maybe you could keep an eye on him with the excuse of being just interested in his stories? He won't suspect anything that way."
She was thinking hard. Ever since Nightshade had challenged Reed for the long-gone River Pride and then destroyed it, the remaining prides had been walking on eggshells around each other.
"You inherited this pride from your father, right Kayzu? Or did you challenge Mighty?"
Grace, strangely, couldn't remember.

Hana chuckled, rolling back onto her stomach and bringing her head up. "Of course, Grace.." She said, "I'm sure that old man would jump at the thought of someone actually wanting to hear him speak for more than 5 seconds"

She stretched once more before she continued listening, and proceeded to lick her fluffy fur clean of any leaves or twigs that might've found their way in there. As she absolutely hated the thought of having anything foreign in her fur.

Kayzu had to reach to catch it and batted it back when he did, but when Grace suggested Hana escort Abyss instead he nearly fumbled it.
"Hana? What if Smokey does make a move? I..I can't put our healer in that position..." He seemed genuinely worried.
The question about how he became ruler of the regal Pride distracted him.

"Aaaha, well, that's a..story." He began, a little sheepish.
"See, I was prideless before, and I was hanging around in Regal lands for a bit. It's a really nice place. Mighty never really paid too much attention to where his pride wandered, so, I met some of you, you all seemed so nice. Anyway, Mighty caught me eventually. I had to fight him. Honestly I don't think either of us thought I'd win...It happened so fast, I'm still reeling."
He looked at them seriously then, something completely uncharacteristic for him. "You don't...hate me for winning, do you?"
Kayzu hadn't killed the old ruler, once he had the upper hand in the fight he had simply drivin Mighty off. Kayzu didn't like killing other lions unless he absolutely had to. And Mighty's male cubs would become heirs, not prideless, competing to take over, probably from Justice one day. Or, that was how Kayzu had worked it out.
