Polis

(City of Polis 389 CE)

(Political map of Aegos 389 CE)

[Red = Vathacian States, Purple = Knyos, Orange = Myridios, Teal = Amidia, Green = ‘Barbarian' Kingdoms, Yellow = Nomadic peoples & tribes]

The city of Polis, once the cultural, economic, and political center of the Vathacian League, later the Vathacian Empire. A city home to the greatest works of the civilized world. A city that once commanded armies across Aegos, and asserted its influence even farther now stands alone. It has been over 40 years since the last Hegemon was ousted by a coalition of Polisian factions and the Periochi were established by the signing of the Práxi Enótitas.

After the reign of the Hegemons and the collapse of the Vathacian Empire, The power vacuum left in Polis led to a period of disaster. Foreign powers stripped Polis of control of most of its lands and territories. Hegemony over what remains of Vathacian territory is nothing more than symbolic. Many states flock to foreign powers, believing their fortunes will better there. In the wake of the collapse the Polisian factions waged war across the city, covering Polis in death, disease, and devastation. After over a year of conflict a victorious faction, Illerius, emerged and established the rank of Polemarch. The rise of the Polemarch ceased the city’s internal conflicts and secured peace with Polis’s various neighbors. Finally after almost a decade of instability, there was peace.

Available Factions

Polis is divided into 10 Periochi, or districts. Every Periochi is governed by the Archon of one of Polis’s 10 factions. The Archons, though mostly independent, still bow to the Polemarch who maintains direct rule over key sections of Polis.

Each Periochi has vague cultural traits that will serve as a guideline for you to expand upon. However it is to be noted that they all stem from original Polisian culture, a culture very heavily influenced by Vathacian Culture, which is based of that of Ancient Greece

Despite supporting the last Hegemon, they managed to remain in control of their section of Polis through their peoples almost fanatic loyalty to the state. They are an opportunistic people, and unlike their southern counterpart, they are seldom considered honest.

6. Ephesus - The most militaristic of the Polisian factions & a favorite of the Polemarch. Ephesus was originally formed during the collapse of the Vathacian Empire and was made up mostly of Hegemonic loyalists as well as the largest portion of the remaining Vathacian military. Ephesus is home to the greatest military minds of Polis. Their culture revolves around the good of the Faction and much of the population lives in large communal blocks.

7. Iolcus - The most populous district in Polis. Iolcus is a largely unorganized mass of buildings, plazas, and miscellaneous buildings. The district possesses massive amounts of resources in comparison to the inner Periochi. Iolcusian culture is similar to that of Kleones, however the more rural region hosts more traditional values.
Population: 550,000

8. Sestos - Sestos is the largest agricultural Periochi. The finest crops of Polis hail from Sestosian fields and many of the inner districts rely heavily on the constant flow of food products from these regions. Up until recently, the people of Sestos have been largely neutral, during the Polisian civil wars Sestos remained the least affected of all Periochi.
Population: 300,000
Improvements:
3x Farmlands [1 to Sector 25, 2 to Sector 27
Resources(known):
6x Farmlands [2 in Sector 25, 2 in Sector 27, 2 in Sector 28]
2x Lumber [Sector 27]
Other:

9. Oreus - Oreus is the chief supplier of lumber and iron in Polis. Though not as resource rich as their Thespiaen counterparts. Massive destruction of Oreus during the Polisian civil wars forced the economically struggling district to accept mostly unfavorable trade deals with the Inner Periochi, particularly Decelea, in order to gain financial support. These trade agreements remain mostly intact, which has prompted widespread resentment from Oreusians. The culture of Oreus is similar in nature to their Sestosian neighbors, however it is significantly less pacifistic and more traditional in nature.
Population: 440,000
Improvements:
1x Lvl 1 Mine [Sector 30, Iron]

10. Thespiae - The least populace of the outer Periochi, but largest in physical size. Thespiae boasts a massive amount of raw material. Of the outer Periochi, Thespiae is the most resentful to the other Archons. During the Polisian civil wars, Thespiaen controlled a large portion of what has become Argos. However they were eventually forced out from the city walls. In recent time Thespiae has become the main antagonizer towards the Inner Archons and the leader of the push to restrict the inner Periochi’s access to raw material.

1. Periochi of Decelea.
2. Archon Acaeus is an unassuming man of few words and fewer still moral scruples. He has adapted to the many social expectations demanded of him throughout his life, but when the opportunity presents itself he is often more than willing to unapologetically break cultural conventions, and even the occasional law, to obtain the next object of his desires. Hegemon, Polemarch, Archon, the bearers of such titles are of no more relevance to him than how much the chains they carry bind him to them. However, whilst a chaotic presence in Polis behind the scenes, in public he politely defers to his contemporaries and his betters so long as they respect the status quo, or, barring that, seek mutually beneficial compacts.
3. In the Periochi of Decelea, little other than the pursuit of personal wealth is derided as a foolish endeavor. Only their hunger for greater knowledge can rival this greed for worldly possessions, and with the Great Library of Irae's occupation by the Polemarch, many have been starved in that regard.
4. Agents (light infantry unit skilled with knives and trained in martial arts, masters of subterfuge, don't need a barracks, only twenty per unit).
5. Pat#0659.
6. Totaling initial AP for our respective Periochi.

1. Periochi of Phocis
2. Archon Decleus is a vocal man. His opinions are many and his secrets are few. Those who respect him consider him a man of will and determination, willing to take risks and make enemies to achieve his wants. Those who do not see him as a deceptive person, due to his swiftness to contrary actions. Despite this however he has a strong belief in the importance of a person words. While he is quick to take action, sometimes against those who were once friends he would never go back on his word. His word is Bond. He takes this often to extremes, if you were to make threats, even in jest, he would take them seriously and if you did not carry them out he would turn your threats against you in mocking at your cowardice. to say he enjoys the luxuries of his station would not be inaccurate as he takes great pleasure in good food, drink and entertainment when he can, though to say he relies on it would be false as he is more then willing to spend time without these things if necessary. While the other Archons are generally split in opinion of him, his people are in near unanimous support as his primary aim has always been their welfare.
3. The Periochi of Phocis is known for its opinions and humour, though often dark. Decleus rarely makes decisions without first seeking the opinions of a selection of elected individuals in each sector. Their beleif in Democracy is often an issue when dealing with other Periochi's of Polis due to the fact that Decleus is rarely able to make a decision on the spot and often put such things to a vote with his elected officials, despite the cities higher system of governance being more designed for more authorotative Archons. The people are strong beleivers in debate and the sharing of ideas and opinions, not afraid to let people know what they think of them but also never deliberately seeking to merely be rude of abrasive
4. Phocian Light Infantry. (Gunpowder units equipped with a moderately shorter weapon, which, while reducing range, allows them to move quickly and stealthily, allowing them to surprise and shock units, they have a very demoralising presence and are equipped with a sword for when melee is about to ensue)
5. General Deth Glitch#1583

1. Periochi of Ephesus
2. Capys Tolmaó of Shanidar - Though he was never born in Shanidar the stigma of his heritage never left him. Always cast into the shadow of his father when he was younger he struggled to leave it abandoning the life of a scholar and buisnessman in persuit of military glory quickly his fathers name was lost on the toungues of the common man and his replaced it... He was a winner of many small campaigns, this civil war seems like the place he can push his name into legend.
3. The district is very loyal to their general and comprises of his troops and their families who Capys has promised land and a good life for them in exchange that they support him.
4. The Toxótās - They are master archers trained from early childhood and there are only 100 of them they are honorable and legendary bowmen. They shoot their compounded bows at a speed that rivals even a man with throwing knives. They are able to shoot 3 arrows in under 2 seconds and have an unusual strength and grace making them a truly devestating enemy at medium to long ranges. And because of their mastery with the bow they are keen at spotting even minute details in just a glance. They typically wear a metal crested helm that supported their vision and hearing (Similar to the Boeotian Helm ) as well as greeves and Vampbraces which complients their scaled armor. They also have studded soles on their shoes to give them better traction in slippery enviroments and insure that their arrow strength is never comprimised.

1. Periochi of Kleones

2. Archon Palaemon Galanis is a typical Kleonesian. Honest and hard working, he mainly thinks about good of his own people. Talented administrator, he rose to power with large suport from Periochi citizens. Earlier, he belonged to higher class of socjety, born into fairly rich family. When the position of archon opened up, Palaemon already ran several successful private businesses, which are now in the hands of his family, and people knew he would be a good ruler. And with that, he won the election for new archon. Since then, Palaemon is doing all he can to bring prosperity to his Periochi.

3. People of Kleones can be generally characterized as trustful, honest and loyal people. For quite a long time, title of archon was a hereditary title in Kleones. In the turmoil of civil war, however, there rose a faction that managed to turn the position into an elected title. Large part of Kelonesians is more loyal to their Periochi and Archon, rather than Polemarch and Polis. They are welcoming and not afraid of accepting strangers into their groups.

4. Kleonesian riflemen - Kleonesian riflemen are elite units, trained only in Kleones. They are equipped with best equipment Periochi has to offer, and are selected from the most loyal and skilled citizens. Riflemen are armed with short rifles and swords, but as Kleonesian Gunpowder foudry is inactive lately, they recieved basic training in using crossbows. They are noticeably less effective with crossbows than rifles, however. Skilled both with long range and hand to hand combat, Kleonesian riflemen are very expensive to recruit and upkeep, resulting in very low numbers of these elite troops being fielded by Kleones.

6. No suggestions on my part
