Arkona is a large, island region located deep in the oceans east of Hoenn. Discovered only relatively recently compared to other regions, Arkona is famous for its highly varied biomes, and ancient ruins, the only traces of an Arkonan civilisation that had long vanished before the island was rediscovered. Initially it was hoped that Arkona's unique ecology would be home to many new pokemon species, but pokemon researchers found only sparse populations of already discovered, relatively common pokemon and interest in the region from the pokemon world dwindled. Despite this setback Arkona was still settled, the region was always of great interest to meteorologists, archeologists and scientists of other fields and its plentiful natural resources encouraged economic devlopment and immigration.

Now that rare pokemon have began appearing on Arkona, the region's government has launched an official, gym challenge for trainers flocking to the region, complete with official routes, gyms and a tournament at the end of year to crown the region's first champion and elite four. Arkona is finally ready to unveil its secrets to the trainers daring enough to explore it.

Settlements, Routes and Points of Interest

  • Panadoor Town: Hailed as "A town like a box full of possibilities!" Panadoor town is a sleepy littlle hamlet popular for raising children. Panadoor is also the official starting point of the Arkona gym challenge, as it's where new trainers will meet Professor Olive to receive a pokedex and a starter pokemon if they do not already have one.
    • Points of Interest
    • Professor Olive's Lab: Professor Olive is one of the few pokemon professors to have made Arkona their home region, so she was the only real choice to act as the scientific advisor of the Arkona league, a position she resents greatly due to a distaste for politics. Professor Olive's area of study was pokemon migration as she was interested in discovering how the few land based pokemon common in Arkona were able to reach the remote island, her research has been thrown into top gear by the sudden arrival of many new pokemon on the island through uncertain means. The lab is a handsome, but relatively modest in size red brick building, with few assistants and outdated equipment due to persistent budget cuts.
    • Shrine of Hope: A small, stone monument said to have been built by the ancient Arkonans. The Shrine of Hope is so ancient that any markings on it have long since been worn away, but locals believe visiting the shrine before a journey can great the strength to overcome great challenges.

  • Route A1: Panadoor Town - Gallesia City: A well traveled road through the idyllic fields, Route A1 is generally regarded as a mild and pleasant journey. Because school children from the scholarly city of Gallesia like to play along the route it is regularly patrolled for dangerous pokemon, though low level pokemon are allowed to wander through for young trainers to catch. The pokemon available are generally those that favor open field or meadow like environments, normal and flying types are especially common.
    • Points of Interest
    • The A1 Cantina: A humble milkbar that mostly sells candy and fast food to the children who play on the route. If you can stand the company of sugar boosted children than its an easy place to find rookie trainers to battle.

  • Gallesia City: Known as the scholarly city, Gallesia city is where the scientists and archeologists who arrived in the region to study its ruins and natural features tended to settle. Eventually the Arkona University was found by Learner Lake and later many high schools and more specialised institutes of learning would follow, cementing the city's reputation as a centre of education. Gallesia is considered to be a beautiful and historic town, with lots of well preserved, stone buildings dating back to the original settlement of Arkona.
    • Points of Interest
    • Booktown: A historic street taken up by booksellers, cafes and stationery stores where students of all ages go to purchase scholarly supplies. It is said you can purchase almost any book in the world here and its also possible to buy tms as some stores consider them a sort of educational supplement. While Booktown is generally considered a sedate and leisurely part of town some cafes that cater to rowdier college students allow for pokemon battles on their premises.
    • Learner Lake: Though technically the property of the nearby Arkona University, Learner Lake is open to the public so as to prevent the large body of water being taken over by pokemon. Picturesque and perfect for a picnic, Learner Lake is always bustling with people and pokemon. Water and bug type pokemon are especially prevalant here and in fact the University sponsers a regular bug catching competition with generous prizes. The massive lake actually stretches deep into Tutorburg forest to the North, where the pokemon become more aggressive and the terrain rougher, so the unprepared are advised not to swim out too far.
    • Gallesia City Gym: Located centrally, the Gallesia city gym was formerly a library until donations allowed for a larger, more modern one to be built and the building was given over to Brookford, the city's gym leader. Wielding a mathematical appraoch to battling Brookford specializes in normal type pokemon whose strength is brough out through training and strategy rather than natural abilities. Those who prevail in their challenge will receive the excelsior badge and a tm for the move Swift

  • Route A2: Gallesia City - Gladeterna City - Elisee Fields:The first leg out of Route A2 is a scenic jaunt along the shore of Learner Lake. At the midpoint the traveller must make a decision, whether to turn south towards the gentle, rolling farmlands bordering Elisee Fields or North into the dense and dark Tutorburg forest. It's said those who choose to go North first have an adventurous spirit while those who choose to go South are wise and level headed.
    • Points of Interest
    • Tutorburg Forest: A dense forest, Tutorburg is the first taste of "The wild North" the leg of the Arkonan trainer circuit that exposes trainers to harsher terrain and more dangerous pokemon. Travellers are advised to stock up on antidotes and repels and to set up camps in clearnings away from bushes and trees lest they wake up to find they are sharing their sleeping bag with a bug type pokemon. Besides swarms of bug pokemon, grass type pokemone and various other forest dwellers are common here.
    • The Grove of Defeat: Tutorburg forest gets its name from a battle fought by the ancient Arkonans. An army marching through the dense forest was ambushed and slaughtered and the defeated nation was said to have been taught a harsh lesson. The site of the battle can still be vistied today and is popular with archeologists for its historical value and with trainers because it is frequented by ghost type pokemon, who are drawn there by the dense, negative energies still lingering there.

  • Elisee Fields:Known as "The breadbasket of Arkona" Elisee Fields is a rural farming community surrounded by fields of crops and pastures of grazing pokemon. Younger folk tend to look down on Elisee Fields as being overly quaint or rural and it lacks an official gym, but its a charming town with a few points of interest even for trainers.
    • Points of Interest
    • Pokeyard: The pokeyard is a gathering point for pokemon breeders, who come to sell prized specimens of farm pokemon such as miltank or wooloos to ranchers looking to expand their herds and flocks. Though the primary market is agricultural, most of the breeders will sell individual specimen to trainers, though the selection is limited.
    • Farmer's Market: The Elisee Fields Farmer's market is a paradise of fresh produce, from fruits and vegetables to milk, cheese and even wool and cotton. Some trainers come here to stock up on natural alternatives to typical pokemon drugs, such as berries or miltank milk and it's sometimes possible to find rare, food related items that trainers covet here as well.

  • Route A3: Elisee Fields - Route A1:A quick jaunt across the sheltered waters of Elisee cove, Route A3 is easily traversable by ferry or pokemon ride and there is even an annual marathon swim across it. Generally seen as a shortcut rather than an adventure in its own right, Route A3 is mostlly notable for being the safest andd easiest place to catch ocean going pokemon.
    • Points of Interest
    • Seawhisper caves: Dotting the cliffs along Elisee cove are sea caves hollowed out by the erosion of pounding waves. Though the sea whisper caves don't lead anywhere like the famous cave routes of other regions, they are worth exploring for those interested in rock pokemon or other cave dwellers. The whispering sounds that echoes throughout the caves is rumored to be the song of a mysterious pokemon, though it is obviously just created by the crashing of the waves in reality.

  • Gladeterna City: Nestled cozily between the thickets of Tutorburg forest and the rushing waters of the mighty Nomazor river, lies Gladeterna city, a town that embodies the spirit of adventure. With its iconic wood log buildings and abundance of sites for camping, mountain biking and river sports, Gladeterna tends to attract adrenalin junkies who don't mind roughing it a bit.
    • Points of Interest
    • Safari zone: Across the Nomazor rive lies a dense maze of swamps, fog and crooked trees known as the Orlethean Marshes. Considered too difficult terrain for permanent settlements, Orlethean instead has been turned into a sprawling reserve for pokemon of various species modelled after the safari zone in kanto. Since the arrival of new pokemon in Arkona, the marshes in particular have attracted a wide variety of particularly rare pokemon. To keep populations sustainable, trainers must pay an entry fee and are afforded limited time and special safari zones to catch pokemon. Funds raised through the safari zone are used to maintain and study the marshes.
    • Gladeterna City Gym: Run by Rucker, an extreme sports junkie and ground type specialist, the Gladeterna gym is a massive, indoor "mudding" course, full of obstacles, gym trainers and mud, it's said no one has ever emerged from the challenge without needing a change of clothes afterwards. Dirty or not, victors will receive the Groundswell badge and a tm for the move mud shot.

  • Route A4: Gladeterna City - Camp Golderado:Although it is a land route, A4 is defined by the mighty Nomazaor river, which leads travellers on a winding path through the forest and then the thick jungle that dominates the centre North of Arkona. The Nomazar jungle is rough terrain and and it rains almost constantly but the upside is access to many exotic pokemon. Poison, Grass and Water types abound but certain other tropical and junglle dwelling pokemon can be found there.
    • Points of Interest:
    • Maku Pichu temple: sdgsg An ancient stone temple located deep in the Nomazor jumgle, Makuhita Pichu's real name is unknown and it called by its current name due to the pictograms on its walls, which depict makuhitas, pichus and their evolutions. The original purpose of the temple is unknown, but it seems to attract electric and fighting pokemon to this day, making it of interest to trainers.
