Fandom Pokemon: Pathogen (Interest Check)

Cybear

Cyborg Ursine
This is an interest check for an idea for a Pokemon RP that I've had for awhile. Any critiques or suggestions for the plot/setting are much appreciated.

unnamed(1).jpg

Something has gone very, very wrong.
In the region of Aynor, things have always been relatively peaceful. A calm and serene forest-based island, Aynor has seen little of violence or gangs, and prides itself on its dedicated Pokemon trainers. However, as of late things have begun to go amiss.

Trainers, breeders, and rangers alike have been noting strange behavior in both wild and domesticated Pokemon. What starts off as irritability and physical symptoms similar to that of a flu, quickly spirals out of control. Pokemon become vicious, rabid, and even turn on their own trainers. The few medical centers Aynor has have been working nonstop to discover what has been causing this sudden shift in Pokemon, and if it can be treated. As of yet they have learned little, and every day more and more Pokemon exhibit signs of falling to this illness.

Rumors of what the potential cause could be are spreading like wildfire. Some say that it's a secret organization that hopes to drive Pokemon to extinction, others say that it's caused by a corrupted Legendary Pokemon, and there are even some who believe that this is simply Pokemon revealing their true nature, and that humans never should've interferred with them in the first place. Though, as of now, none of these claims have been backed by any solid evidence.

Professor Larch - the regions top Pokemon specialist - has taken it upon himself to treat this situation as it presents: an epidemic, and is eager to find the cause. As such he's rallied together a few Pokemon trainers, rangers, and breeders whose companions have yet to be inflicted with the pathogen to help him uncover what exactly is causing this outbreak, and to, of course, stop it by any means possible. But can it be done, or is this a hopeless endeavor?

---------------------------------------

This roleplay would primarily be focused around our characters, the aforementioned Pokemon trainers/rangers/breeders, and their journey to figure out exactly what is causing this outbreak. Characters would be able to start off with a team of 1-6 Pokemon, though given the rapid rate that the pathegon is progressing it's likely that some members of the team would eventually succumb to the illness. Given that Aynor is a made-up region, Pokemon from various other regions can be found here, so any Pokemon (with the exception of Legendaries) could be owned by player characters.

The Geography of the Aynor Region
The region of Aynor is, in actuality, a series of islands, the largest being the region's name-sake Aynor. The smaller islands, while being home to both Pokemon and humans like, are relatively uninhibited, and frequently ignored by those on the main island. This has caused some animosity to arise between those who inhibit these islands, and those whole live on Aynor.

Aynor itself is a heavily forested island, with trees and bush becoming more and more dense as you move inland. There are some small towns that live in the thick of these woods, namely the towns of Woodham, Lochby, and Norbush. These towns are fairly small and consist mostly of wood-cutters and their mills, given that the woodland area is so dense, many trainers come to these towns in the hopes of catching Pokemon on the nearby routes. However with the recent epidemic less and less trainers are moving inland from the coastal cities, and these tiny towns see less and less outsiders.

The coasts are where you will find most of Aynor's major cities. On the eastern peninsula you have Aynor's largest city - Lorfort. With over two hundred people living in this city it is ripe with activity at every time of the day. The city of Lorfort is where Professor Larch has set up base, and where most of the studies into the sudden illness are taking place. The city itself spirals up a cliff over the ocean, with most of the population living near the bottom of the cliff, with the government being organized at the top.

On the Western coast you have two rival cities - Brightshore and Byley, both sporting over one hundred residents each. No one knows what sparked the rivalry between the two cities, although it's clear that their animosity runs deep. Brightshore is more or less a trading city, and oversees the exports and imports for the region. Byley on the other hand is located over an iron ore mine, and as such much of the city works in the mines with the help of steel Pokemon.

A couple of islands outside of Aynor (but still in the region) of note are the islands of Nailis and Bellbron. The ship ride to Nailis is less than an hour, and it is the most widely recognized island outside of Aynor. The population of the island is just over thirty, and most of the people there work as fishermen. It once used to be a tourist destination, but interest slowed after a boat of tourists leaving the island were attacked by a Gyarados. This led to fear in the natives of Aynor, and most have decided to stick to their own land.

Bellborn on the other hand is an enigma. While it's estimated that there's about fifteen to twenty people living on the island, no one has ever confirmed this. This is due to local superstition that Bellborn is haunted. Some claim to have been there and returned, no one can really say for sure. All that is known is that sailors who go near the island feel an intense, primal urge to turn around and go back home.

Main post edited with the CS and info about Aynor.
Let me know if you guys have any questions.
Is the character image mandatory? I don't have any faceclaims or stuff like that and the character design I'm using is based off of a pretty lewd fanart, so I'm pretty sure if I posted that here I'd be breaking at least the entire website's constitution

Nope, it's not. Just make sure to describe their appearance in the appearance section, and you're all good to go.

I figured I'd ask outta curiosity maybe I missed it in the initial post but would it be possible to play a Pokemon Ranger?

Yes, I can imagine the Professor would want input from a Ranger as well as from Trainers.

I’ll re-edit the main post, thanks for bringing that up.

Name: Aria Hall
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Brief Personality: Aria is a kind and outgoing individual. She cares deeply for her Pokemon and for the Pokemon of others, without ignoring the trainer's safety or feelings. She can't stand for people who mistreat their Pokemon, and will actively pressure them into changing their ways for the Pokemon's sake. She can be naive and oblivious, but is honest and loyal to her friends. She tries to be responsible with her money but is a bit too generous, especially with her friends. In battle, she's serious and focused, despite her battle strategies relying more on strength than careful planning. She has a strong bond with her own Pokemon, to the point where she can convey most orders through gestures and expressions, or at the very most, a few short phrases.

Bio: Aria was born in Hearthome City, in the Sinnoh region. Her father had taken over the Gym after Fantina retired, and her mother was an up and coming coordinator in contests, her parents having had met in a coffee shop in town. After getting married, her mother quit her job to stay home and take care of Aria after she was born. Aria grew up in a loving and caring household, constantly surrounded by Pokemon, both her mother's and her father's. In fact, her first Pokemon was the offspring of her mother's Gardevoir and her father's Gengar, a Ralts of her own. Upon reaching the age of 13, she took her Pokemon journey around Sinnoh, becoming Champion by 15 and relenting the title to another challenger at the age of 18, at which point she moved to Aynor to challenge their league or set one up if one was not present. Meanwhile, she lived off the checks she received for both contest and battle footage that was taken of her being used on television.

Name: Kale Wideman
Age: 20
Gender: Male

Brief Personality: Kale comes off as a very passionate guy, being someone who quickly speaks his mind and makes his voice heard. He can be easygoing during down time very easy to get along with and talk to, he has a way of getting even the shyest of folks to come out of their shell a little. While out adventuring with his partner Kale can come off as a bit of an daredevil taking unnecessary risks for a slight thrill which can be a bit much for most people around him, at the end of the day though Kale is there for those who he cares about and for the things he deems is under his protection.

Bio: Kale grew up in the Alola region specifically Poni Island, much like how he is today Kale was a very bright and energetic kid. His mother was the one that took care of him in his younger years his father however was actually a Officer and would often be out keeping the folks within Poni Island safe, he didn't get to spend much time with his father but Kale looked up to his father and was inspired by his tireless work ethic. As Kale grew up he later discovered what a Pokemon Ranger was and quickly jumped at the chance to become one, the position was rather fresh within the Alola region and Kale would be the first of few people from the Alola Region to begin his test as a ranger. Kale during his most earliest days realized that to even qualify as an Student Ranger he must form a bond with a Pokemon and become partners however at that very moment Kale had none and had to sadly post pone his journey and try and befriend a pokemon on the island. The early start of his attempts were failures each pokemon he encountered pretty much blowing him off...or chasing him off, just as Kale was losing hope of finding a friend while he was traveling the Canyons of Poni Island is when he heard a panicked wail from a distant pokemon, confused at first Kale sprinted in the direction of the cries until he came across a massive drop and right at the edge of it was a Jangmo-o. Kale immediately rushed to help the little guy calming him as he tried to reach and help it up, however Kale discovered not only Jangmo-o was losing it's grip but it seemed like he was injured as well and badly too he must of been defending itself and got knocked off before calling for help. As Kale helped up the injured Jangmo-o he did his best to bandaged the wound with the first aid equipment he was given during his ranger orientation before rushing to find a pokemon center, he moved much faster in a panic to trying get the pokemon some help, he jumped gaps, slid down cliffs and sprinted until he got towards the nearest village where a pokemon center was available. He burst through the doors exclaiming that this Jangmo-o was hurt and needed medical attention, right after saying that a nurse was able to get the pokemon the care he needed with Kale waiting to hear the news of the little pokemon. That was six years ago and Kale now finds himself much more mature but still with the same heart he had when he first saved his partner that stands far taller than before now a Kommo-o that goes by the name Aegis, much has happened with the two of them Kale having traveled to almost every region meeting new friends and thwarting plans from heinous organizations and villains alike. Kale with his partner Aegis find themselves with a new adventure, being contacted by Professor Larch, explaining the situation with the pokemon in the Aynor region he travels to get to the bottom of things with other people willing to help as well. As a Top Ranger Kale vows to figure out the issue with the ravenous pokemon and soothe all of them so the pokemon can return to their happier natures by any means necessary!

This is pretty interesting. Might join if I deem I've got enough time to be consistent. Is this going to have a required post per day or more or something?

I'm SUPER interested in this! Going to comment so I can keep track of it, and hopefully think up a character when I've got some free time!

Name: Erik Yale
Age: 21
Gender: Male

Appearance:

Black hair, grey eyes. Very lean, well toned but not too muscular. He has all kinds of scars along his hands and arms from getting caught in his own traps, as well as teeth marks along his throat and a few bumps on his head from where he was attacked and dragged around by an ursaring during a camping trip.

Brief Personality:

Erik is a survivalist, with a high pain tolerance and impressive resourcefulness. He traveled alone as a kid and to this day prefers his privacy; while he can seem a little cold, he is also the most level headed and calm under pressure.
Bio:

Erik grew up in Nailis with his parents, an only child to a fisherman that taught him the trade, and his traveling mother who died in the gyarados attack on island tourists. He left home at 16 to live on his own as a subsistence hunter in Woodham, and has lived on his own since. He is a skilled hunter, alongside his houndoom who is a trained hunting dog. Although he has learned how to live further out in the wood with feral animals, Erik is increasingly weary of the dangers they pose and finds his way of life being threatened as animals become more and more dangerous.

Name: Mitsku Tomomi
Age: 21
Gender: female

Appearance:

Slender, brunette, golden eyed, typically dresses in coats and leaves her long hair down.

Brief Personality:

Mitsku is terribly bright, but her curiosity keeps her from getting as far as she could. She has an observant, analytical mind, but also one that is easily distracted. Sometimes she can seem a little ditzy, and she tends to forget about boundaries, however she is very loyal, and courageous. Sometimes she gets a little obsessive when something is really interesting to her.

Bio:

Although she currently works as a lab aid for Professor Larch, Mitsku has done a bit of everything, from waitressing to nursing, and even some years as a licensed trainer; nothing has really held her attention, which keeps her on a constant quest to find something interesting. She grew up in a small town and lived most her life bored without options; now she lives in Lorfort, and likes the business of the city (even if she spends all her time in the lab, running on caffeine and leftover chinese).
