My intended character seems to fit the Zapdos dorm the best, despite my intention for her to be an Ice-type specialist (of sorts).

Well, time to start making her.

Of course. Ask away.

No such things as stupid questions~
Thanks I just get nervous >.< but my question would be do I have to be one of the starting freshman? I was hoping to make my character at least 16, but I’d say that’s a bit odd if she’s starting off alongside a number of 10 year olds. I definitely don’t intend to make an hunt complicated! I’m just wondering if I should adjust the age lower or, have her be in her dorm but not quite a part of the freshman scandal. Or maybe she can help them later on in the integration.

Sorry if that’s confusing.

You have to be a freshman, sadly. I'm starting all new players with 1 pokemon (with the exception of returning players). She can still be 16. There's no reason she can't start her PokeSchool "journey" at 16. You do not have to participate in the plot if you don't want to. Having her enjoy food and hang out with other npc 16 year olds is fine too. Ages don't matter too much at this school. There can be 14 year old 6th years if they gathered enough points fast enough and are just aiming to graduate. Alternatively there could be a 27 year old freshman who never attended classes, doesn't care about acquiring points, and is only on the island for PokeResearch or something lmao.

So as another way to see it, it's like college, yes? Age isn't necessarily a requirement or determinate of what year you're enrolled in.

Though minimum age is still 10 =P Any younger is too dangerous even with teachers supervising.

Tell that to the game developers that make preschoolers a trainer type XD

I still never understood that. Little toddlers randomly placed on routes with Pokemon in hand, ready to battle any stranger that comes across their path.

lmao. Seriously? o.O

I grew up watching the anime and didn't play too many of the games, so this rp will follow a more anime style with less emphasis on game mechanics...though i will wiki some stuff. Sticking with 10 year old basics to make it feel a bit more Pokemon, but I can understand people wanting to play older kids. Some of it is just hard to wrap your head around.

Items have been updated in the PokeShop thread, which won't be open until the start of that RP. Purchases are to be made in that thread. Best to keep an eye on it as it may update, but I shall keep players informed in this thread when it updates as well.

Advantageous types will cause 2 hearts to be lost instead of 1 and disadvantageous types will cause ½ heart loss.

Does Same-type attack bonus factor into this, or is there no difference between a Talonflame using Heat Wave and a Koffing using Heat Wave?

I think it looks like the actual base power of attacks won't matter in the roleplay, though I could be wrong.

No difference and it doesn't matter. The advantage applies based on the pokemon's type not their attacks. Squirtle could use skull bash against and onix and it would still be double dmg. Similarly, a magickarp could use flamethrower on a bulbasaur and it would still be half dmg. Since I'm aesthetically letting players use whatever move they please, and the moves themselves are not part of the game-mechanics, I'm separating them entirely for now. At least until until I introduce TMs into the PokeShop.

I don't think types matter for the actual rolls, but they affect how much damage an effective attack deals. If it's super effective, the damage is doubled. If it's not very effective, the damage is halved.

What happens if someone uses self-destruct?

Win the roll and both pokemon are taken out. Lose the roll and only your pokemon is taken out...at least that's how I would do it for plot-related battles =P Up to the discretion of the players. However, since I haven't introduced moves into the mechanics, it'd be dependent the type of the pokemon doing self destruct whether 1 hearts, 2 hearts, or half-heart is taken out.
