More focused on scolding Mimikyu with his eyes than paying any attention to the girl Gabriel didn't notice nor care for the fact that she had gotten visibly furious until she started scolding him, something he didn't expect to get from anyone except his own father and did she just threaten him? This was going to be such a pain if he had to teach someone a lesson before they even arrived at school. Turning back to face the girl he was relieved to see that she had stormed off leaving the empty threat hanging. Was everything going to be this much of a pain he thought as he grabbed his suitcase and went to find a seat and continue reading his book, completely ignoring the extra kid who had delivered the girl the hat she had lost.

Mimikyu twitched as the idiot fox copied his movements to the point of falling over like an imbecile. Everything was horrible, first, he had to get onto a sea vessel and now he had to deal with everyone being so stupid. Plus he hadn't had a fight in ages so he hadn't vented against anything in a while. The happy yelp the fox gave only angered Mimikyu more and it twitched on the spot frantically in frustration. Before it had a chance to dive after the annoyance Gabriel beckoned it over to a seat nearby. Looking at his target and his partner Mimikyu made the decision to head over to Gabriel and deal with the fox another time, even though he had to urge to fight anything he trusted Gabriel's judgment.
"We'll find you something to fight when we get ashore Mimikyu," Gabriel said as Mimikyu shuffled up next to him "Need to get some training in any way, this boat ride has taken too long".

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Half an hour passed as the boat slowly crawled up to the dock and when it finally landed Gabriel grabbed his stuff again and headed towards the exist with Mimikyu in tow. Gabriel watched with dull eyes as a few of the other students having trouble with getting off a boat of all things, how were they expected to become trainers if boats were so much of a problem. One student was having trouble with Krabby pinching at her, she knows that she has a Pokemon with her right? A few others were engaged in conversation while Emilia was getting stuck in the sand and snapping at the Machoke's as if she was royalty. Such a pain.

Walking down past everyone Gabriel headed away from the group to where a Krabby sat on it's lonesome, probably couldn't find a mate the poor thing. Oh well, he and Mimikyu needed some practice and a lone Krabby shouldn't prove too much of a problem but it would get their battle senses together. "
Mimikyu found you some stress relief" He called out as his ghost type partner shuffled up next to him and eyed the Krabby hungrily. "Why don't you two go play...rough?"

It wouldn't be inaccurate to say that the young girl had caught that boy and dragged him into her own flow. Though, that wasn't a bad thing per say. Rather, it did wonders for Alain's mood, barring the sudden hand-holding of course. His cheeks had turned a shade of red as bright as his hair for a moment but neither of the two children dwelled on that brief moment for too long. A oui there and a je vois there made up a majority of Alain's responses as Ophelia dominated the conversation. That's not to say that he wasn't listening to her every word, however. But she seemed to be a far better conversationalist - and far more proficient with the native tongue.

Of course, all of this was leagues better than the experiences he had in Kalos. And with each word that escaped her lips, he slowly came to terms with his defeat. Though, that didn't stop the boy form feeling the weight of the Poké Ball in his pocket. As he followed her, he found his gaze occasionally shifting to the Poliwag at her side. They were quite common in Kalos, perhaps some had migrated or were traded into the region at one point in the past? Admittedly, he was curious about the answer to that question, but the thought of having to sit through a lecturer's prattle immediately discouraged him from digging further.

Before he even knew it, half an hour had passed and the young boy had found himself on a beach with the others. Of course, the sight of Professor Slowking had come as a shock to the Kalosian boy, although he quickly rationalized it as but a quirky instructor in a suit... for a (hopefully) good reason. As his sneakers hit the sand, he wondered briefly if he should have taken them off. Socks and sand simply didn't mix. As he had no belongings besides his bag and wallet, he simply didn't hand anything to the muscular creatures who were now ferrying luggage. And although he had heeded the girl's words, Alain found it difficult to actually maneuver in the now thickening crowd of first-years. Though even then, he observed a few Krabby bumping into his feet, looking up towards him, and then continuing on their way without a single pinch. Curious, but most of the time wild Pokémon tended not to attack him - instances with food excluded of course.

The boy had to stand on the tips of his toes to get a good look at the next person to announce their name after Emilia. Though his surname sounded vaguely familiar he couldn't quite remember why. There certainly wasn't anyone he knew back at Trainer's School with that name. Still, there had to be some reason for that slight pause in his words. Truthfully, aside from the Eevee on his shoulder, he didn't particularly stand out much... perhaps he was actually one of those ninjas that were prevalent in this part of world...!

He chuckled softly, the chances of actually meeting a ninja at a place like this was surely zero.

It was immediate upon hearing the elegant girl's voice, however, that she was another Kalosian. Though, she seemed like the sort who paid attention to the latest fashion trends and ate Lumiose Galettes every day. In other words, a bon chic, bon genre girl! To say that she was intimidating to the route-raised boy was an understatement. He had averted her eyes from her blue silhouette; to look upon her was akin to staring at the sun. Not to mention that haut en coleur attitude. Despite their shared regions, he couldn't help but feel a complete and total distance between them. Alain resolved to stay out of her way as best as he could - to handle her was also like trying to catch fire.

He briefly held Rictus's ball in his pocket before he cleared his throat and stood on the tips of his toes right now to introduce himself. He wasn't particularly shy, but he had at least wanted to wait till a few people had gone before him.

"Alain Villenueve, here." It almost seemed as if he wanted to say more, but the red-head quickly move through the small crowd to Ophelia's side after that brief announcement. For now, he'd idle around until the rest of the introductions finished and hoped that the orientation would include a tour that stopped at a rest area for Rictus.

Mimikyu
Hoodie.jpg Mimikyu.png

Mimikyu followed closely behind Gabriel as the trainer and Pokemon combo disembarked from the ship with the mass of trainers following them. There was a few Pokemon out of pokeballs as well, some looked like they would be fun, others just looked like they were there to look pretty, disgusting. Still, if at least a few provided a challenge then perhaps it would be worth their time coming to this cruddy island. Following in Gabriel's example Mimikyu pretty much ignored everyone and step shuffled slightly away from the class, remembering that Gabriel had promised him a fight and a fight he was definitely going to get.

Gabriel soon stopped and Mimikyu saw who was going to be his first victim, a lone Krabby, how pathetic.
"Go play...rough" These were the words Mimikyu had been waiting for, even if it was a stupid pun, finally he could lash out. Making a few horrifying clicks Mimikyu charged headfirst towards the Krabby with its Play Rough attack however Krabby was ready and knocked Mimikyu aside with a metal claw, a move that's super effective against Mimikyu.

Gabriel sighed as he watched his partner get battered to the side with ease, especially against something that would hurt it a lot. "You can do better than that Mimikyu! Now get back in there and use Shadowclaw!" yelled Gabriel as he watched the Krabby let loose a bubble beam in Mimikyu's direction. Gabriel, who previously had his hands resting inside his pockets looking relaxed, had now straightened his posture and brought his hands down to his sides.

Pissed, agitated and hurt Mimikyu rotated around the Krabby, easily running circles around the Krabby and its bubble beam even if it didn't look like running at all. As it shuffled along a pair of ghostly, transparent claws creeped out from underneath Mimikyu. With a swift Adjustment of its posture, Mimikyu dashed forward, slamming one of its claws into the Krabby, sending flying back the way it had done to Mimikyu a moment ago. Payback was sweet however both Gabriel and Mimikyu weren't done with their opponent.

Gabriel smiled to himself, it was over now that Mimikyu had gotten this close. Raising at hand up into the air and, with a snap of his fingers, yelled out to his partner with confidence "And again!"

Moving swiftly up to the flying Krabby Mimikyu brings around a second shadow claw, this one sending Krabby directly up into the air where it would be completely out of its depth and unable to defend itself.
"And again!" Came the third shout from Gabriel as he snapped his fingers once more.
Jumping quickly so as to catch up with its prey Mimikyu brought both claws up before slamming both ghostly extensions onto the River Crab Pokémon sending it into the sand and causing enough damage for the Pokemon to faint. Mimikyu landed next to the Krabby and looked over towards Gabriel, the pair gave each other a simple nod before Mimikyu shuffled over and standing proud and confident.

Gabriel knelt down next to his partner and gave it a rub on the back, which looked a bit awkward considering the head was much closer "Well done, although try not to run head first into things like that or you'll wind up hurting yourself, it's already such a pain having to fix you up everytime we battle I don't need to faint on me as well." Gabriel couldn't help but smile at his partner despite what he said, it was their way of showing how much they cared for each other. Looking back over his shoulder at the group of trainers and Prof. Slowpoke Gabriel stated, "Gabriel Valerio, from Alola." Walking back over to join the rest of the group Gabriel tried to avoid the stares of several of the other trainers, shoving his hands into his pockets and deciding to follow along for the rest of the 'Orientation' whatever the hell that meant.

Umeko Ohara

As the pair of boys informed her that neither had seen the pokemon in question, Umeko’s face twisted into a small grimace of worry, but listened politely as the older student spoke of his great battle with a flock of Pidgey. She vaguely could recall hearing the squawking of birds earlier, but she hadn’t thought anything of it at the time. Why anyone would want to spend their time antagonizing avians, she wasn’t sure, but judging by his mood it hadn’t gone well for him. Turning towards the boy whom had introduced himself, she returned the smile he offered them. He didn’t know Yaji’s whereabouts either, but he said he’d help her find the top pokemon, a gesture the navy-haired girl greatly appreciated. It’s nice to meet you both- my name’s Umeko. And yea, if you wouldn’t mind helping me look for it, that be really nice.” She replied, pausing for a moment to consider Trey’s question. “I wouldn’t say Yaji particularly likes small, dark places-just likes to explore every nook and cranny of wherever we go. I checked the rear-end of the upper deck already though, so I suspect he’s either on this end or else went below deck. I think I’m going to go look down there, so could you look arou-“ Umeko began to say, but was interrupted by the bellowing of the ship, the intercom stating they’d arrive in a half hour. That went by quickly. How much time did I spend searching the stern, or waste questioning whether to ask for help? she asked herself in annoyance, lips pursing in disdain.

“We must be landing shortly. I don’t want to keep you if you’ve got to get your stuff, but I’m going to go down below- if you get a chance can you check this area? Thanks!” the girl quickly requested, not waiting for Trey or the other boy to answer before offering a parting wave and proceeding to make her way towards the stairwell. Noting that most of the students she was passing were preparing to disembark, hurriedly Umeko raced down the steps to the now empty passenger area. She didn’t want to be late for whomever was meeting them for orientation, but it certainly wouldn’t do for her to be without her partner. They were supposed to be in this together after all, or at least that was how she saw things. Calling out the pokemon’s name a few times, the Baltoy failed to appear, inciting further concern in the girl. As mischievous as her companion could be, surely it too was aware they’d be leaving soon and would drop the pretences. Unless something had happened and the little pokemon had gotten itself stuck somewhere, or worse yet injured and unable to call for help… no, now the child was overreacting. There’s no need for such dramatics, Umeko reminded herself in a scolding manner. Scouring beneath benches, around corners, and every other nook she could find, the girl found a great many things of potential interest; discarded wads of gum, a single lonely earring, even a forgotten ₽20 note (Which she gingerly pocketed). The top pokemon was not amongst them however. If Yaji’s not appearing, it’s most likely not here. I’ll just have to go back above deck- maybe Trey or one of the other students have seen it.

Sprinting back up to the surface, the Vermillionite found the deck largely empty, seeing only a blonde woman that she didn’t recognize speaking with the ship’s captain. Going along the deck, there was no sign of the little clay creature on the port side, spurring her on further. After a few minutes more of frantic searching, she spied it finally: balancing precariously on the bow of the ship as if it were the figurehead of the boat, gazing out onto the expanding horizon. Slowing to a jog as she reached the edge of the vessel, Umeko panted slightly as she moved to stand next to the creature. “So this is where you scooted off to?! Could’ve at least said something you know.” She said as she approached the top pokemon, exasperation evident in her tone. “Baltoy.” it replied glibly, clearly unconcerned by her statement. In its mind, it was the human child’s fault for taking so long earlier, and didn’t see the reason for her distressed state. They’d only been separated for a short while after all, and yet she got so riled up- such a fervent stress response was likely an indicator for future health problems. “Hmmph- you couldn’t at least try to sound sorry? I was worried about you, seriously.” the girl commented, a trace of hurt slipping into her otherwise annoyed tone. The pokemon chose not to respond, simply silently contemplating the child’s words as together they took in the island, the child's agitation gradually seeping out. So this was to be their new home for the next while- based on the flora, one might’ve thought they’d reached the Alolan Islands. It was different, unknown, seemingly teeming with all sorts of potential for those willing to seek it out. After a long moment, the Baltoy shifted to nudge its partner’s leg with its arm. Pulling her gaze away from the vista before them, Umeko looked down to see Yaji’s head droop downwards and to the side, a bow of sorts. It often performed this motion when it was unwilling to concede it was in the wrong, but felt guilty about something or another. It wasn't quite an apology, but it would do for the time being.

“You’re lucky I let this stuff slide, though for the record, you really should’ve told me you were leaving…anyways, it’s not worth talking about now, so we'll leave it for later. We should head down to the beach- wouldn’t be any good if they marked us absent on Day one.” the girl finally grumbled, looking over to where her fellow students were lining up. Pulling from her pocket a small object, the sphere expanded in her hand as she directed the object towards the Baltoy. With a tiny click a ray of light shot out of the Pokeball, and once it had faded her devious comrade vanished along with it. Placing it snugly in her pouch, the child’s mind returned to the realization that they were both seriously late to their orientation. Face turning a pale pink at the thought, she swiftly picked up her bags from the luggage bay and sped down the plank towards the beach where her peers had amassed, coming to a quick halt upon spying the plethora of Krabbys about. Carefully navigating the sand so as to avoid the crustaceans, the girl settled at the rear, hoping her tardiness would go unnoticed. Peeking through the gaps of bodies and seeing a large pink pokemon, Umeko could only listen to her astonishment as it proceeded to instruct them in perfect English. She had heard that certain species of pokemon were intelligent enough to imitate human speech, but this was something else entirely. But she wouldn’t dwell on it too long, and as the Professor called for attendance, she swore that its eyes caught her gaze with a knowing look. He definitely saw that I was the last to arrive… that’s certainly not the right foot to start things off with, she thought woefully, but tried to set aside her embarressment as her focus moved to rectifying her mistake. Once there was a pause in the introductions, the girl stepped out to the side to make herself seen by the Slowking, head bowing slightly as she did so. “Umeko Ohara, present… sorry for being late, Professor- it won’t happen again.”

Trey Asters
"Oh well alright. If you need any help then feel free to ask me!" He would head on to meet with the others. Upon grouping with them, he would see a Slowking arrive and... well it talked.

'Did... a Pokemon just talk? ... Holy heck that's awesome,' he thinks to himself as he listens to the Pokemon's speech. Upon hearing the Slowing wanting to take attendance, Trey would call his name when his turn arrived.

"Trey Asters here." Then he listens about the part of the Krabby and looks to the ground. "I don't have Stinger or Ace available to use right now so... my options are pretty loose. Hmm..." Trey takes out his Pokedex to find out more about the Krabby.

"Alright so... they like to burrow and their pincers are basically the only thing keeping them from not being unable to walk. Maybe if they had some food..." Trey remembers that he still had some Pokemon food from when he fed Stinger earlier. He took some out and threw it within the sand to attract the Krabby. Trey then puts away his container of Pokemon food so that the Krabby won't see that he has it. It wouldn't be good if they came for him after all.

"Let's see if they take the bait."

The girl had asked for their help in finding her Baltoy, but then left in such a hurry she didn't give any way for either of them to get in touch with her should either of them be the ones to find said Baltoy. Maybe there was a student directory somewhere in the paperwork they had been given that he didn't know about. Ooh well. With a light shrug Justin would again turn to look at the other male to see if he was thinking the same thing Justin was, but he had already walked off, likely to look for the missing Pokemon. “Baltoy....huh. Don't think I've ever actually seen a Baltoy in person before.” Not that he didn't know what they looked like. It was a rock type, he was sure....or was it ground?

With a half hour left to kill Justin would half-dejectedly return to his lounge chair and plop back down in to it with a light sigh, his mood for sunbathing totally ruined. By a flock of Pidgey. Scratching his head and turning over Justin would cross his arms under his head before looking around every few minutes, doing his best to keep his promise to help look for the missing Baltoy. He said he would help. He didn't say he would burn through all of his energy looking for the Pokemon, to then be tired for whatever challenges they were about to face on the island. Which begged the question as to what the orientation was going to be. A tour? A tournament? A co-ed sleepover!?!

As the ship docked Justin, like so many others, would gather up his suit case and surf board and head for the exit ramp, passing his luggage and board off like all the other students to the Machoke helpers. He was used to the sight of the fighting type Pokemon. The training gym in the hotel he worked at employed them. He smirked at the thought, making sure to tell the Machoke and Machamp to keep up the good work. Justin turned when he heard a voice speaking to them, attention falling on the speaking Slowking that would be one of their professors. Well that was...interesting. He preferred Slowbro to Slowking, but he could understand why a Slowking would make a better professor. “Justin Flechilla, present.” Once everyone had introduced themselves, Justin would ask their new professor “What did you mean by event? Gathering on th- YEOW!!” he cried out, shifting all his weight on to his left foot and holding his right leg up. There, dangling from his ankle like a fish on a line was one of the very Krabby the professor had just warned them about. So far he wasn't a fan of this event. “Who wants Krabby legs for dinner tonight? I know a great recipe that involves a lot of butter and boiling water.” He would ask the group through gritted teeth, his attention on the Krabby as the water type stared back at him.

Ophelia

"K-Krabby legs?"
Ophelia squeaked. Rapidly shaking her head 'no', though she did feel sympathetic to the older guy who, like her, got pinched by a Krabby, Ophelia hesitantly reached out to help disentangle the crab pokemon from Justin's ankle. Part of the reason was indeed sympathy for Justin's minor suffering. A larger part was fear for the poor pokemon who very well might end up food for its transgressions. The crab pokemon that pinched Justin struggled free from Ophelia's grasp before scuttling away. Shrugging, Ophelia glanced at Alain, who stood beside his on his tippy toes by her side. She was glad that Alain didn't get hurt. Others had introduced their names as well, and Ophelia had been busy trying to remember them all...a futile task since there were so many. The one that stood out, though, was the Alolan dude who had his strange pikachu-like pokemon battle with one of the Krabbys. Gabriel. That was certainly one way to avoid getting touched by a krabby. Drew a lots of attention to himself too. Emilia, the girl with the vulpix, had her ice pokemon freeze the krabby...before tossing it in the ocean...which wasn't entirely necessary, but effective she supposed... She looked down at Poliwag.

"Why didn't you fight off a Krabby for me?"

"Poli?" Poliwag returned her look with a blank one of its own before pointing its tail at Trey with the weedle who was using pokemon food to as bait to draw the krabbys away. Smart...not like his weedle could defend him after what she'd seen at the ship...which reminded her of what happened to Gastly. Ophelia bit her lip as she studied Alain, recalling the tear that had slipped out when her new friend held onto the gaseous ghost that had fallen from the sky. Of course the foreign boy would be sad! His pokemon had gotten hurt! Geez, how self absorbed could she be if she'd forgotten?

Standing on her tippy toes, so she stood out a little more as well, Ophelia raised her hand, waving it like a beacon. "Professor! Professor! Will there be a pokemon center in this event?"

Emilia Emory
"Oh please," Emilia could hold herself back from speaking for only so long when faces with such overwhelming mediocrity, "there is not nearly enough meat in a Krabby's legs to be worth the trouble of getting to it. Now Clawitzer, that is a delicacy with enough meat to feed a family for a week. But given as you are unlikely to find such a creature in this region's waters the next best course of action would be..." She opened her eyes and looked around for where pretty boy had gotten himself. "Ah I see someone is already hard at work to supply the rest of us with dinner."

"Oh Mimikyu~," she called out to pretty boy's faux-Pikachu, "do be a dear and continue fighting that Krabby until it evolves. A Kingler's claw would be much more respectable as a meal than a mere Krabby. You can manage that much I hope." Desire to taunt her self-decided rival momentarily sated, Emilia turned back towards Professor Pinky. She did wish he would just get to the point already. Time spent standing around with these nobodies was time wasted.

"Professor! Professor! Will there be a pokemon center in this event?" One of the other students, the little girl with the Poliwag, was making a scene waving her hand around to get the professor's attention. Foolish. The professor was a psychic type, it was doubtful she needed to do so much for him to notice she had a question.

But the girl's question wasn't stupid at all, in fact... "Actually Professor, I would like to know when we'd be able to heal our pokemon as well. You see on the trip to the island I battled and captured a rare Vaporeon, as well as battled and defeated a dozen Pidgey, so as you may understand my pokemon is just a bit worn out from getting that much exercise." As if on command the white Vulpix yawned, a cloud of cold air rising from its open mouth. "If possible I would like to get him healed up before anything else exciting happens." And once Keo was back at full fighting strength she'd show that gorgeous Gabriel his place, below her with everyone else.

Trey Asters
"Alright... wait for it... wait for it..." Trey waited for the moment the krabby took the bait. And they did! Krabby started to flock towards the food, allowing Trey to advance on with the greatest of ease.

"Too bad I don't have Stinger or Ace to use right now. A Krabby would be interesting to have," he remarks casually as he keeps on going.

Trey listens to an important question about a Pokemon Center, something that would be great to have about now. There'd be no point in continuing the trend of asking, so he stays quiet about it.

The Slowking that intrigued him. He had read a book about Pokemon and he knows about how Slowking possess phenomenal intellect.

Which presented a question Trey asks within himself.
'If Alakazam has excellent intelligence then why don't they learn to talk?'

TREY <3 : 1

“Very impressive, Miss Emory.” A blonde lady said as she strolled towards the students from the direction of the ship. Arms folded over chest, she studied the young pokemon trainers silently behind her black rimmed glasses, before speaking up once again. “There is indeed a pokemon center along the route we’ll take...though I do hope nothing exciting of that sort happens again.”

Professor Yew (NPC)
“I don’t dislike pokemon battling. As a matter of fact, our school is quite well known for it—especially among students in the Moltres Dorm. However, I do believe in order when it comes to a structuralized education system like ours. There is a time and a place for battles.” Violet eyes flickered to Gabriel and Mimikyu, her expression apathetic. “I'm not certain how things are done in Alola, but here in the Kanto region, when a professor tells a student to gather around, it is expected that the student does as they are told straight away. Personal training can be done on your own time. However, if a teacher, human or pokemon, takes their time to give you instructions during a class, you follow it….or deal with the consequences.”

“Now, now, Professor Yew. I have Young Gabriel’s name. There’s no need to talk about consequences when classes have yet to begin—and won’t begin for another month. Let them have their fun for now. The orientation, after all, was designed with that in mind.”

“And yet, unless we inform the students about the consequences of their actions, how will we expect them to succeed in RBY Institute?”

Professor Slowking didn’t respond, simply letting out a relaxed hum, and slowly checking the names that had come his way in his typical non-hurried manner. Professor Yew took that as permission to continue—addressing all the students.

“Every action has a consequence. This is especially true when dealing with pokemon—as I’m sure some of you have come to realize. Step on a pokemon and you could get bitten. Challenge one to a fight and you won’t always come out unscathed. The school has a pokemon center to heal your pokemon and teachers to protect you in case something happens, but this won’t hold true once you step outside the boundaries of this school into the real world. Even within the grounds of RBY Institute, there are certain areas and caves that I wouldn’t advise going into without the company of a supervisor. Your safety is a priority among the staff at school. However, if instructions are not followed, your safety cannot be guaranteed.”

Professor Yew pushed up her glasses. “RBY Institute was built upon a single ideology, a rule that can be be considered the most important of all other rules—barring no physical violence towards teachers and students of course. That is respect for the individual pokemon.” Yew paused for a moment, to let that bit sink in. “The difference between those who choose undertake their journey in a school setting and those who choose to take their individual journeys, is that you do not have to run around having your pokemon fight wild pokemon to train your team. We have training rooms for that. High tech battle simulators that cater to your individual needs. Fellow students whom you can challenge and improve your skills with. Unless you intend to catch the pokemon, there’s no need to pick a fight with it. In fact, such an action is ill-advised, since it only increases the likelihood of endangerment for said pokemon on this island as well as makes things difficult for your fellow researchers in the Zapdos dorm. You’ll learn more on that subject in a Pokemon Biodiversity class…or possibly a pokemon world history class. ” Professor Yew glanced towards Justin, her face finally taking a mildly annoyed expression. “We certainly do not incite mobs of pidgeys to endanger ourselves and our fellow students. It’s beneath the standards of an RBY Student to behave that way which both disrespects the pokemon and the safety of the passengers on RBY Yaht. In fact, if the school year were in session, and Headmaster Hazel wasn’t currently away on business, the involved party would be facing severe penalties for their misdeeds.”

A cough-like sound came from Professor Slowking. “I’ve finished checking off all the names, Professor Yew.”

“Good. Then we can proceed with the Orientation, which I’m sure many of you are curious about.” A pokedex floated beside Professor Yew. “Thank you, Professor Slowking.” Taking the device and turning it on, a holographic image of RBY island appeared. “Embedded in the pokedex we’ve given you is a map of the school grounds. It’s impossible to visit every single facility in a single day, so we aren’t going to. Better that you read a map and learn as you go anyway. However, what we do need to do is get you settled in your dorms, which is where you’ll be living for the remainder of the school year.”

The image shifted, this time displaying a picture of professor Yew and all her identifying information.

“Your pokedex will serve as your student ID for the entirety of your stay at RBY Institute. It is the key to your dorm room. It’s what’ll allow you access to the training rooms. Captain Marcus wouldn’t have let you aboard our school yaht without it. So don’t lose it. It’s a pain to make a replacement.” The last line was said bluntly, as if simply stating a fact. “At the top you’ll see the dormitory to which you have been assigned. The decision was carefully made based on a number of factors revealed in your application and thoroughly discussed by our admittance committee as well as your dorm heads. We believe that putting you in a similar living environment with those who share your goals and dreams will increase the likelihood of success in your individual aspirations.” Professor Yew paused for a moment, to let all the information sink in, before continuing. “There are 4 dormitories on campus, three of which are accessible to students. For this orientation, we will stop at all three dormitories. Once there, students who have volunteered to assist in the Orientation will tell you about their dorm, provide you with more information regarding RBY Institute, and possibly give you a challenge or activity reflecting the ideals of the dorm.”

“Participation in these activities is not mandatory,” Professor Slowking added benignly. “But there will be rewards given to winner of every challenge. The dormitories are normally inaccessible to those who don’t belong in them, so it’s a good idea to make use of this opportunity to explore the different dorms when you’ve got the chance.”

Professor Yew nodded, switching the holographic image back to the map of RBY island and zooming in. “Our first stop is the Zapdos dormitory. It’s just through the forest behind me. On the route between the Zapdos dorm and the Articuno dorm is a pokemon center for those who need the rest. ”

Ophelia’s hands shot up once again.

“Yes, Miss Magnolia?”

“What’s that building over there?”

Professor Yew followed Ophelia’s pointer finger to a structure on the edge of a rocky cliff, not too far from the beach. “That is the PokeLab where I, and my team, conduct our research on various pokemon. It is not a subject for this orientation. You will all get to see the inside of that structure if you take my classes. ” Yew’s gaze swept the students and pokemon standing at the beach. “Any more questions before we get going?”

Emilia beamed at being praised by Professor Yew. Had that alone not been enough to cement Emilia's positive opinion of the woman, her disapproval of pretty boy Gabriel certainly did the job. She had to keep herself from shooting a self-satisfied look in his direction. He already had the teachers on him, it was time for her to be the bigger person. There would no doubt be more chances to torment the boy in the future. But when the professor mentioned that students could challenge one another to battles she couldn't help but glance in his direction. She'd be taking advantage of that sooner rather than later. An uncharacteristic smile found itself on Emilia's face.

Taking out her pokedex as the professor prompted, Emilia read over the updated information within it. Her eyes narrowed as she thought over what it said. Moltres. She looked towards the professor, not the pink one. "Actually professor I have a question. Based on what you've just said I gather that Moltres is battle focused and Zapdos is research focused, but what about the other two dorms? Or at the very least what does Articuno specialize in?" Emilia knew without a doubt that if Moltres was for fighters then that was where she belonged, but she wanted to know if there was even a chance she might have been able to fit in with Articuno. She'd seen paintings of the icy bird pokemon and absolutely adored its strength and beauty, so some small part of her would be upset if she couldn't have even been considered to be a part of a group represented by its image.

"You will find out when we get there," Professor Yew replied simply, if not a bit dismissively, to Emilia's question about the Articuno Dorm. "The fourth dorm is the Lugia Dorm and it is reserved for faculty, as well as guests that may be invited to the island."

Meanwhile, as most eyes were on Professor Yew who did most of the talking, Professor Slowking saddled himself alongside the boy named Trey Aster. It wasn't out of any particularly favoritism. He thought all the children were fascinating in their own unique way. It was simply that the young child posed an interesting question--one that only he could hear.

"Perhaps it is because Alakazam has no desire to learn the human language,"
Professor Slowking whispered jovially to the boy, so as not to drown out anything professor Yew had to say. He could've just telepathically communicated with the boy, but Professor Slowking enjoyed talking to children more. It'd become a habit. And he had no particular desire to delve too frequently into the mind of others. "Another reason might be that vocal cords of an Alakazam cannot imitate human speech. Though, it's clear that intelligence isn't the only factor when it comes to reproducing the human tongue. I, myself, don't know how I am able to do the things I do. It might be best to just consider me as one of the mysteries of the pokemon world. "

Gray

Excessive. That was one word that came to mind when watching how Gabriel and Emilia treated the surrounding Krabby. Gray knew that it was normal for Pokémon to get hurt during a battle. However, knocking a creature unconcious without even bothering to catch it seemed...unnecessary. There was also the way that the girl had frozen the crustacean before tossing it back into the ocean like a piece of garbage. Her treatment of Pokémon aside, Gray also payed attention to how the blue-haired youth carried herself. It wasn't as if he was purposefully singling her out, but it was hard to ignore an intense personality like that.

While he had already been avoiding the girl after she captured her aquatic companion, he'd now be doubling his efforts to stay away, or at least try to not get on her bad side. The same went for the young man she called out to. He definitely didn't want to get involved with them. Of course, it was too late for that, as he had already spoken to the pair.

Aside from the actions of the two trainers, Gray took notice of how little attention he had garnered after introducing himself. It wasn't as though he was arrogant enough to assume that everyone would know who he was, but it was something he was unaccustomed to. None of the students seemed to know of the Luster name. On this island, he was just another student. Upon realizing this, the boy was filled with relief. That was his sole motivation to attend this school. It may have seemed odd to some, but he was truly glad to not be noticed. Although, those feelings slowly faded away as he started picking up talk of which Pokémon would make for a better meal.

The conversation soon began to die down when a blonde woman approached the group of students. It took a moment before Gray recognized her as the instructor that they been introduced to earlier. The boy felt a little bad for forgetting about her, but Professor Slowking had captured most of his attention, for obvious reasons.

While the teacher seemed a bit intimidating as she scolded certain students, Gray found himself internally nodding at her words, agreeing with what she had to say. With his lack of experience, he wasn't sure if some of his options would be considered strange, but Professor Yew seemed to hold similar beliefs when it came to the treatment of Pokémon. He payed close attention to the woman's speech, but the words from her fellow faculty member caused him to raise a brow.

According to Professor Slowpoke, classes wouldn't be starting until next month. Before arriving on the island, Gray had been fully expecting to begin studying right away, but that didn't seem to be the case. What would they be doing during that time?

When Professor Yew had finished speaking, Gray turned his attention to his Pokédex, reading through his student information. When his eyes trailed over the dormitory that he had assigned to, the boy had little reaction, simply staring at the bright screen in silence. 'Zapdos...'

Students would be placed in an environment with those that shared similar goals, allowing everyone to work toward the same dream. However, Gray didn't have any like that. He didn't possesss a single aspiration. With that in mind, he was curious about what kind of people he'd be living with for the next few years. What sort of dorm had he been assigned to? With Zapdos being their next destination, he'd likely find out soon

Gabriel Valerio

Paying no mind to what the child, Olivia was it, had to say Gabriel watched as the other kids slowly moved in and announced themselves to the Pokemon Professor, was everyone going to be so young, such a pain. Scanning the group the only one of his age that seemed to stand out was a relatively decent looking guy who had gotten himself pinched by the Krabby. Thinking of the Krabby Gabriel realized that they hadn't tried to get to him, they seemed to be avoiding him actually, or what was more likely was they were avoiding Mimikyu. Still, they meant less work for him which was always a good thing in his eyes.

Before Gabriel had a chance to move over to have a chat with someone his age he was stopped by another Professor, not a Pokemon this time, who proceeded to tell him of consequences of his actions and blah blah rules and blah blah bullshit. Returning the teachers' unimpressed glance Gabriel looked like he was about to say something but sighed instead and responded with a simple "
Fine, whatever." He couldn't be stuffed explaining how his Pokemon worked to a professor, they could find out as time went on. Gabriel walked over and stood next to Justin, pulled out his Pokedex, and listened on to the teacher who he already knew was going to be more of a pain than usual.

Only half paying attention to what the Professor was saying, Gabriel looked over his map of the area, looking for any caves or dense forest where he could hopefully catch some new Pokemon, maybe something more interesting than a Krabby at the very least. However his interest in what the professor was saying instantly doubled as she mentioned a training room, something that could finally be of use. As she went on it became obvious she had nothing else of interest so he leaned over to Blonde and whispered, "What dorm are you in Justin?"

The young boy flipped open his own Pokedex - it seemed that these particular models had been modified for RBY Institute use. Though, he made a note to keep his own Trainer Card in his wallet. There was no telling when a series of very specific and unavoidable consequences would lead to the device being temporarily parted from his person. Perhaps he was being too cautious, but he had a creeping suspicion that he'd find himself in situations that he couldn't have even fathomed at this point. Alain checked his Student ID for the dorm.

Articuno. I can't possibly imagine what sorts of things go on at that dorm. I hope it's a regular sized dorm and not a tiny, hastily-constructed one that came about as a result of the school's funding coming up short... He mused about the possibility of the dorm being as small and cramped as one of those stereotypical cheap Kanto apartments that resembled Unovan motels more than anything. For a moment, the young boy considered raising the question of roommates in the dorms, but he instead found his eyes flitting to the others. From the quiet, ninja-like boy muttering something under his breath to Professor Slowpoke coming up next to the Weedle trainer, to that particularly edgy teenager chatting up another older student.

"Hmm, Ophelia, which dorm have you been assigned to? It seems that I've been assigned to the Artikod- Oh, pardon Articuno dorm. Kalos is, comment dit-on, acquainted with those birds - my pépère remembers seeing one in his youth... Ah, but they did say that classes wouldn't start for a month, no? I suppose that will give us ample time to explore the island, oui?"The red-headed boy offered a wide grin, perhaps excited by his own words and the prospect of exploring the rest of the school grounds. Perhaps he'd even stumble upon some ancient secrets...!

True.” Justin would start when the female who had identified herself as Emilia said Krabby weren't very meaty. “But as Professor Slowking has pointed out, there is an overabundance of the little ankle biters here right now. Lil butter, lil of my secret sauce, we could eat like kings.” Justin grinned at the thought, licking his lips slightly. He always was a sucker for some good sea food. And if he was the one making it, you had better believe it was going to be good. When the female professor came over and began speaking to them Justin would give her his full attention, not being able to stop himself from checking her out. What? On the boat ride over, and even looking around now, it seemed the biggest majority of the girls that were to be his classmates appeared to be a few years younger than him. He hoped the other female teachers looked like her. When she turned her attention towards him and basically verbally threatened him with severe punishment for what had happened on the boat, Justin had to bite the inside of his lip. Careful there teach. If you're the one dishing out punishment, Justin might have to up his bad boy game some.....if he had any bad boy game.

Justin, like many of his fellow npc students, would likely produce their pokedexs when the professor began explaining how they functioned and what they did. He was suddenly glad he had tucked it in to his swimming trunks and not his bags before leaving on this voyage. Justin would turn the device over in his hand a few times, press a few buttons, general tom follery to see how it worked and how it didn't. When his virtual id card popped up Justin would reach a hand through the hologram just to see what would happen before going back to messing with the device. “Wonder if it comes with a manual. I don't wanna break it but....I kinda do.” Was that weird? The professor then specifically told them to not break then, Justin clicking his teeth. That wasn't any fun. Taking things apart was how he learned best. How else do you think he became such a good chef?

The sudden whispering of another male in his ear would make Justin jump slightly, right hand going over his heart. “Geez scare me like that. Already got a bad heart and you trynna kill me.” He would tell the other male, Gabriel, sighing lightly. If it had been that Professor Yew he wouldn't have minded as much. Why did the guy want to know what dorm he was in? You know what, never mind that. This was their first day. He would be living with these people for the next few years, so it made sense to try and make friends as soon as he could. Opening his pokedex again, Justin would flip through a few screens to find the information asked of him, eventually coming to his virtual id again. “Mmm. Says here Articuno. You?” When Yew asked if there were anymore questions, Justin would ask “Yeah, I got a couple. Are all the dorms the same? And what are the quality of the ingredients of the food we're going to be eating? Are the chefs well trained?” After a few seconds thought, Justin would add “On second thought, don't worry about that last one. If not, I'll teach 'em a thing or two.” What he lacked in Pokemon battle experience he more than made up for in cooking skills. He was glad to hear there would be a Pokemon center on the way to their first stop. Napoleon needed a good rest after the Pidgey Incident.

Opelia
“Zapdos,” Ophelia answered, looking away from her pokedex to listen to the Kalosian boy beside her. There were a couple words she didn’t understand, but his overall message was received, and his accent was nice to listen to. Very…exotic. Ophelia mentally made a note to find herself a Kalosian dictionary. Otherwise, communicating with her new friend would be very difficult.

Returning the boy’s grin with a shyer one of her own, Ophelia nodded. “I hope so. I heard from my brother that somewhere on this island the 3 birds reside and that’s where the dormitories got their names. Supposedly they only show themselves to the best of trainers.” More than likely it was a just a rumor. School lore at best. Even if it weren’t, she didn’t have the confidence to believe she could be the very best, so if she were to follow that logic, she wouldn’t ever encounter them. Still, exploring the school grounds did sound a lot of fun…if not a little dangerous. It was something she’d planned to do eventually, though she wasn’t quite brave enough to do it on her own. She was glad Alain also seemed excited by the prospect. It meant getting him to go with her that much easier.

Too bad we aren’t in the same dorm building…

“The dormitories are all similar in the sense that they contain sleeping spaces, eating spaces, and general living spaces.” Ophelia heard Professor Yew reply to the boy who seemed quite confident in the kitchen. “Though you’ll find each dorm building has little quirks that cater to the students it houses. Requests are for certain renovations to individual living spaces can and have been successfully made through the Student Council. We don’t guarantee that every request will be heeded, but, so long as it aids the student body in some form, and adds to the prosperity of the school, student suggestions will be taken into consideration. In fact, such actions are encouraged, as RBY values student involvement in its growth.” She paused, as if remembering another question, then answered in an uncaring manner. “The ingredients in each dorm are sufficient.”

“It’d also be wise to remember that the dormitories themselves are just buildings,” Professor Slowking added from beside Trey. “It is the students that make up the differences in each dorm, not the other way around. One mustn’t get their causes and effects mixed up.”

“Nicely said, Professor SlowKing.”
Giving the first years a final sweeping gaze, Professor Yew turned swiftly. “Now, let’s be off. I want the Orientation finished before the sun sets.”

“Eager to return to your Lab, Professor Yew?”

“Of course. I’d rather not leave Dr. Hemlock alone with the equipment for too long. He makes accidents happen.”

Picking up Poliwag, who was poking at one of the krabbys with his tail, Ophelia moved to follow Professor Yew while keeping beside Alain. She occasionally peeked at the other students, curious about which dormitory they were assigned too. Especially the elegant girl with the big hat. Emilia. Ophelia was glad the hat managed to find its way back to its owner. She’d forgotten about it, much to her embarrassment, and was curious how the headwear returned to its rightful place.

“Very curious,” Ophelia murmured to herself. Of course, she was also curious about how the Zapdos Dormitory would be like.

And we're here!
As it turned out, the Zapdos Dormitory wasn’t far from the beach at all—just a straight path, past a couple of brushes and trees. Ophelia ducked a branch as the building where she’d be living in came into sight.

upload_2017-10-6_13-32-54-png.357792

There were two people at the entrance: a boy and a girl. The boy seemed to be prepping for a speech of some sort. The girl was seated on the stairs, reading. Ophelia tilted her head and squinted her eyes, trying to the see the title of the book. The Theory of Evolution. Sounds difficult.

Professor Yew cleared her throat causing the two Zapdos students to look in the group’s direction. The boy’s face flush red and he hastily stuffed his notes in his bag while the girl shut her book. Looking a little nervous, the boy stepped off the stairs and stood in front of the first years who had arrived for the Orientation. He tugged on the collar of shirt, as if hot. Ophelia glanced in the direction of the sun before looking back at the boy.

“Start at any time, Mr. Mortenson.”

“Erm, right.” The blonde boy, who looked a similar age to her brother, took a deep breath. Then a hesitant smile found its way to his face. “Welcome to the Zapdos Dormitory, your first stop for this year’s Orientation. My name is Koert and I’m a third year at RBY Institute.”

033cd5bdcef82e1f4886cd4b5e10a7ee.jpg

Koert Mortenson (NPC, 14, Zapdos)

“I know I look the same age as some of you, maybe younger to some, but that’s pretty normal here in RBY. Your age doesn’t matter at this school. You can start at any time and however long it takes to graduate is entirely up to you. RBY Institute has 5 different years, so it might feel like a long time, but in actuality your grades aren’t actually determined by length of time…at least not directly. It’s determined by the amount of Points you’ve acquired during your stay in RBY. I’m not certain if Professor Yew went over Points with you all yet…”

“I haven’t,”

“O-Okay. Well, Points basically determine your rank at this school. It’s recorded by your Pokedex.” Realizing he needed his pokedex as visual, Koert rummaged through his bag until he found the red device. “You need to spend a certain amount of Points to graduate. At bottom, just bellow your picture on the ID, is the amount of Points you’ve acquired since receiving your Pokedex. Many points are earned through participating in class, doing homework, and scoring high in exams. Points are awarded rather than grades, and the amount of points you’ve received reflects how well you’ve done. We, at the Zapdos dorm, excel in this particular field.”

Koert cleared his throat. He seemed to grow less nervous as he continued talking.

“Students assigned to the Zapdos dormitory are the ones who value knowledge. The ones who want to solve all the mysteries of the pokemon world. Many of the students living in this dormitory came to RBY institute with the intention of becoming pokemon researchers, professors, doctors, and even engineers. We came to learn…or maybe simply satiate our curiosity about pokemon. Our fellow students in the other dormitories might stereotype us all as nerds, but being smart isn’t actually a requirement for getting into the Zapdos dorm. I know I wasn’t when I started out.” He glanced at the girl who stepped up beside him. “It’s just that, living around people who are, it’s easy to develop good studying habits.”

“If you’re lucky enough to be assigned to the Zapdos dorm I guarantee you’ll learn a lot. Of the 3 student dormitories on campus, the our dorm has the largest library, courtesy of all the students who have passed the Zapdos Halls. It's the most modern. It’s the closest building to the PokeLab, where our dormitory advisor, Professor Yew works. If you need advice, she’ll be within reach. You’ll also have students taking courses like Advanced Pokemon Theory who, if they aren’t busy studying, are usually available to help answer any questions you might have. The Zapdos Dormitory is the dormitory of knowledge and learning. ” Koert cleared his throat once again. “And so now we have a challenge for you all, one that reflects this…”

On cue, the doors to the dormitory opened and a pickachu stepped out, carrying with it a large stack of papers which it passed around. It was aided by the by the girl who moved to help. Koert looked relieved.

Give the Best answer.

1. The flames in a charmander’s tail will always decrease in the water. True or False?

2. Which pokemon will die if you lift it off the ground?

3. Which pokemon has the most brains?

4. What are all the evee evolutions…in alphabetical order?

5. Which pokemon has eyes so great, it can see through walls? (Hint: Not a ghost type)

6. Which pokemon has been known by the general populace as the disaster pokemon?

7. When and where will you most likely find a Zapdos?

Bonus Question:
Which pokemon, according to popular pokemon theory, is considered the failed clone of mew?

“A list of questions was complied for you to answer—your first quiz on RBY Island so to say.”

“Pika-pi~.”

“This isn’t an actual quiz, so you aren’t required to participate, but a reward will be given to the highest scorer…a gift from the Zapdos dorm. In addition, to simulate the exams you’ll be taking once classes start, Points will be awarded based on how well you score—drawn from the pool of Points donated by some of the Zapdos students for this event.”

“Once finished, the first years who have been assigned to our dorm can go and get themselves settled into a room . The machoke and machamp know the way and will help out if needed. They do this every year and know the building’s layout well. Everyone else will have free time until their fellow students are done. You can explore the dormitory…or even the woods behind the building if you want. Just don’t wander in too far on your own. I don’t think Professor Yew would…appreciate…having to look for you”

A subtle glance was directed to the Professor Yew who currently seemed to be discussing something private with Professor Slowking. Koert looked back at the first years, sighed, and tried for another hesitant smile. “RBY isn't an easy pokemon trainer school to graduate from, more difficult than most schools, but once you get into the swing of things, it's not so bad. We're all in the same boat."

Upon receiving her sheet, Ophelia quickly skimmed the questions. She was only positive about half of the answers...and the bonus question eluded her. As if sensing her nervousness, the girl who gave her the 'quiz' smiled gently. "Don't worry and take your time answering to the best of your abilities. This is just for fun. We don't expect anyone to score perfectly."

"Polilili-poli." Poliwag hopped out of Ophelia's arms, and tilted its head at pickachu curiously. Despite the of stack of paper that was taller than its own body, the electric pokemon seemed to have little problem keeping the weight above its head as moved from student to student. Poliwag followed along.

Our First Stop!

Means we're a 1/3rd of the way to episode 1's end. Every stop will basically be structured the same way, info followed by a fun activity. For the Zapdos Dorm Koert’s given you all an optional quiz. PM me the answers you have, afterwards you are free to post your character doing…whatever you wish. You’ve been given free time. You can also choose to ignore the challenge and just post. You aren’t required to post your character’s thoughts while taking the quiz, but remember, posts are worth points (and I honestly love giving them out =P). Feel free to be creative about what you find either in the dormitory or around it. World-building and helping to develop the school is always welcome(appreciated even). Just no wild pokemon (or at least catchable ones) please. That's a privilege of the gm^^

Gray

When making his way through the surrounding greenery with the rest of his fellow students, Gray had been expecting a view full of striking yellow to be waiting at the end of the path. To his surprise, the Zapdos dorm was a light shade of brown, the only visual nod to its namesake being the golden hue born from the shining sun. It wasn't particularly intimidating either, looking like a larger than average building that could be found at any prep school. In some ways, its appearance reminded him of the many homes he had lived in over the years.

While observing his new home, Gray's eyes eventually settled on the two people by the entrance. A blond young man and a girl sitting on the stairs, the latter holding a book that was familiar to him. When Professor Yew had gotten the pair's attention, the boy was the first to introduce himself, providing some explanation about the school.

Apparently, it was possible to move to the next year and graduate without spending much time, as long as you had enough points. It seemed like a pretty convenient system for students that were eager to venture out into the world and make a name for themselves, but Gray wasn't too fixated on rushing through his school life. Honestly, he would have preferred to stay as long as possible. Although, the dorm he was assigned seemed to conflict with that mindset, to an extent.

According to Koert, this was a place of knowledge. That alone may have made this a fitting dorm for Gray, since he usually did well when it came to studying. However, he couldn't say that he possessed a drive for solving the mysteries of the world. Professor Slowpoke said that dorms were defined by the students, rather than the opposite, but he still wondered if he would be out of place in a building filled with people that had that sort of passion. Although, the third-year did manage to relieve him of some of that worry. The way he spoke made him appear nervous, but Koert seemed to be a nice guy.

Gray's ears perked a bit at the mention of the dorm's library. If it was as large as the older Zapdos said, then he wouldn't have a hard time finding new books to read. He'd likely be spending a good amount of time there to go through the collection. It was good that he hadn't packed his entire collection with him for the trip.

Gray's thoughts about his future trips to the library came to a pause when an electric mouse began to pass around papers, aided by the girl that had been silent so far. After offering a word of thanks when a copy found its way into his hands, Gray read over the text. 'A quiz, huh?' They were told that this wasn't mandatory, but there wasn't any harm in giving it a try. The older students took the time to make this for them, after all.

Reading through the questions, Gray inspected a few of the lines closely, scratching his head a bit as he did so. 'Does it mean literally?' While mulling over his options, he felt soft fur brush against his cheek as V leaned in closer, holding a black pen in his mouth. Running a hand through the silver coat, he smiled at the action. "What? You think you know the answer?"

Clicking the offered pen, Gray wrote down the answers he was sure about before moving to the question that made him think of multiple options. 'There's a lot of them.' For now, he'd go with the solution that could apply to both of the question's possible meanings. That one was a bit tricky, but there was another on the list that he couldn't possibly get wrong.

Finishing up pretty quickly, Gray looked to the Zapdos dorm once again before turning to face his friend, scratching behind the pair of large ears. "I guess we should get settled in, huh?" He didn't have much to unpack, so it probably wouldn't take very long to get everything in order. With the remaining time, maybe it would be best to get familiar with the building. He could possibly check out the library too.

Still undecided, he approached the set of stairs. With the way that the institute handled graduation through its point system, it was hard to say how long he'd be staying in this place. Regardless of the number of years, this would be his new home.

The ingredients were sufficient. That's not what he wanted to hear. But, maybe in a way it was. If the ingredients were only sufficient, then the chefs would be only sufficient. Which gave him an opportunity to show off his cooking skills to, ooh, lets say a certain professor of theirs. With that in mind Justin couldn't help but to grin. For now, sufficient would have to do.

Walking with the group, Justin was half expecting the dorms to be the same color as their Pokemon counterparts. Zapdos Yellow, Articuno Blue, you get the idea. So when the dorms came in to view and were a shade of brown not unlike the trees that surrounded the structure, Justin was a bit surprised. Even more so by the fact that other than being told it was the Zapdos dorms, there weren't any indications as to that being the case. No yellow roof. No Zapdos statues. No carvings. Nothing. It was just a dorm room out in the middle of nowhere. Very strange. He had a feeling a lot of this was going to be strange to him.

Justin listened as Koert introduced himself, not being able to stop himself from saying “Hii Koert” like one would in an AA meeting. Justin nodded a few times here and there throughout Koert's explanation as to how the school worked, pulling out his pokedex to see how many points he already had. Sure enough there was his point count in all its pointed glory. “When you say graduate, do you mean from the school or to the next level? And is it possible to lose points?” Because obviously it was possible to make them, otherwise the point system would be pointless.

As the quiz and pens were handed out, Justin would glance over each question. Some of their answers were more obvious than others. What Koert said next also caught Justin's interest. Points could be donated. He wondered then what else points could be used for. Betting on Pokemon battles? Exchanged for certain amenities? In theory, one could live on the island their whole lives without ever graduating. Or they could graduate entirely in their first month or two if the accumulated enough points. Tapping the pen to his chin a few times, Justin would turn his attention back to the quiz and begin to fill it out.

Question one. Too easy. Question two. Hmmm. Scratching his chin, Justin would write what he thought was the right answer. As soon as he finished he realized it was wrong, but that he was on the right track. “Aah crap what's that one called?... It's got the thing with the thing...Cmoooon...” he would mutter, the answer he thought being right coming to him. Question three. Question three stumped him. Did it mean literally or metaphorically? Glancing up from the paper, Justin's attention would go first to Yew, a mild curiosity as to if she were the one who came up with this quiz or not. He would then look to Slowking, feeling that having the answer to the question be right in front of you be too obvious. If the question meant literally, then he had no idea. Metaphorically though “If it's not Slowking, maybe...” He wrote the strongest psychic pokemon's name that came to mind, adding a question mark at the end before moving on. Question four. Justin wrote the ones he knew before moving on again. Enough trainers came through his hotel with Eevee and its Eeveeloutions that he couldn't help but to know this one. Question five. A Pokemon that can see through walls and wasn't a psychic? Hoothoot were known for their eyesight at night, but he didn't think it could see through walls. But maybe its evolution could. That had to be it, he was sure. Question six. Looking back up the sheet of paper, Justin would realize that question four wanted the answers in alphabetical order. So he quickly went through the alphabet and, as he wrote them in order, would mark out the ones he had written. Back to six. Disasters. Disasters were always blamed on one of his favorite Pokemon. So that one was easy. Question seven. Articuno was always talked about in rumors about mountain blizzards. If Articuno lived on snowy mountains, it would make sense Zapdos would probably be found in thunderstorms. Finally, the bonus question. Ok, this one was a trick question. It had to be. Cloning was something right out of a sci-fi movie, not even something that could be done. What's more, Justin didn't think Mew even existed. So how could it be cloned? Cloning? Not real. Mew? Not real. But for the sake of argument, Justin assumed for the moment they were in fact both real. But what would you even name a clone of something as legendary as Mew? “Mew....Two? I guess? Mew Two.” he wrote, shaking his head. “That doesn't look right.” So he marked it out and wrote it again, this time as one word. That looked good. So next to it he wrote it again as two words before signing it at the top and turning it back in to Koert. When he did, he would ask the male “So is there a Mister Yew I should know about?” He made sure to keep his voice low, not wanting to attract any unneeded attention.

Koert flushed red at Justin's question, his eyes skirting briefly to Professor Yew before, returning to the older guy. "Um, I don't think so..." His response was whispered to match Justin's. Given, the nature of their talk, Koert had no intention of raising his voice anyway. At least not within Professor Yew's hearing range. "She doesn't seem like the type." Really. Koert couldn't imagine his dormitory's advisor ending up with anyone of the male species. The woman was brilliant, and an excellent teacher, but also very...practical. Taking the 'quiz' from Justin's hands, Koert scanned it briefly, nodded and placed in a pile with the rest. He and Jane would do the grading once everyone was finished.

Tugging the strap of his backpack in place, Koert changed the topic, probably because he was uncomfortable with the first one.

"To answer your previous question...both. Points are required to get to the next level, rank, year--however you want to call it. Once all 5 years are completed, you've graduated from RBY."

Ophelia

Even though the girl had said that the quiz was just for fun, Ophelia double checked, no, triple-checked her answers. The Zapdos Dormitory, from how Koert described it, seemed like the house of the smart. Ophelia had no idea why she was assigned to such a dorm, since she didn't consider herself smart, nor did she have any plans of becoming a professor or anything. Yet that's what she got. She would be living with the smart kids. And the thought of disappointing her future dorm mates drove the 10 year old to give the quiz her utmost. She didn't need to get the highest score...though that was what she aimed for. She just wanted to do good enough to so as not to disappoint. So no one would question why she was assigned to the Zapdos dormitory.

Peeking from her paper, Ophelia could see that the girl who passed her the quiz had now settled under a tree and was back to reading her book. As if sensing her gaze, the girl looked up and smiled. Ophelia blushed and glanced back down at her answers. Unlike Emilia who was the first to finish her quiz, with an expression of utmost confidence that Ophelia was fairly sure the blonde girl would get the reward, Ophelia wasn't as confident in her answers at all. Perhaps she should change what she chose for question two...

"Poli!"

Ophelia squealed when her quiz was whacked out of her hand by a slap of Poliwag’s tail. “What are you doing!?”

Shaking it’s head, Poliwag leapt up to catch the descending parchment and proceeded to turn in her finished quiz to the pikachu who guarded a stack it had been carrying. Pikachu scanned the paper, the same way Koert had, nodded in imitation of the blonde boy, then scurried over to where a small pile was forming by Koert and placed it among the others.

“Thanks Lightning,”
Koert said absentmindedly, still conversing with Justin.

Ophelia groaned, her hands finding her way to her face. Doomed. Peeking between her fingers, she could see a boy making his way up the steps to the Zapdos Dormitory. She forgot his name. Gary? Gray? The boy with the strange colored evee. Was he assigned to the Zapdos Dorm as well?

“Those assigned to the Zapdos Dormitory should follow Mr. Luster’s example once they are finished.” Professor Yew addressed the group of first years. “Boys in the odd numbered rooms, girls in the even numbered ones. We won’t continue to the next dormitory until every Zapdos student is properly settled.”

Ophelia looked to Alain. “I’ll be back,” the ten year old promised before running up the steps after Gray/Gary Luster. She was followed by the machoke that carried her tiny suitcase.

The young boy could only blink and nod in a daze as his companion headed into the dorm trailing right after that Luster boy. That surname definitely sounded familiar, but he couldn't quite put his foot on it. Still, after that surprise quiz in a language he wasn't that fluent in, it was a wonder that smoke wasn't billowing out of his ears. Even in his native region, he had never been a good test taker - the knowledge was there, but the mere act of taking a test was a true challenge for him.

Did... Did I answer in Kalosian? It took a moment, but the young boy had realized that - in translating all the questions to Kalosian in his mind while reading through the quiz, he had also responded likewise with his answers. Though, he pushed aside that worrisome detail and began to review his own answers. Questions 2, 3, and 7 were quite difficult - they were educated guesses at best. But the bonus question was a complete guess on his part. Sequels were never as good as the originals, so maybe the clone was called 'Mewtwo' or something of the like. Of course, that was completely ridiculous, but he figured that an incorrect answer was better than nothing at all.

As he stood there with his arms folded, Alain thought back to Ophelia's previous words. The naming conventions would certainly make sense if that were the case, and it seemed that those legendary birds were associated more with the Kanto region than Kalos. Though, he had to wonder if there were more than one of each bird - it'd certainly explain how they've managed to sneak into the legends of regions that were miles apart. Could they perhaps be immortal? He made a note to visit their library - or at the very least ask Ophelia to find him a book on the birds. Preferably in Kalosian.

Umeko Ohara

As the new students followed the professors along the tour, the navy-haired girl’s mind was lost in thought as she lugged her suitcase towards their destination. It was true that the Machokes’ present were there to assist the students with their baggage, yet she felt uneasy in letting anyone else take over the care of her belongings. Amongst the clothes and other necessities were her valuables- books and equipment and the curious objects she’d come across. Many of these items were commonplace and of little value- rocks, minerals, a fossil with the imprint of a shell. But she herself had procured them, one way or another, and so took great care in ensuring their well being. If nothing else, it would help her build up some stamina, so diligently she towed the bag along, quietly huffing as she did so.

If the pokemon professor had any comments about Umeko’s tardiness, he at least saved her the embarrassment of publicly scolding her in front of her peers, so she certainly couldn’t complain. No, what dismayed her was Professor Yew’s reveal regarding their academic studies. A whole month of free time before classes started? It almost seemed too good to be true, but there was a part of her that was somewhat disappointed at the news. A part of her had been looking to jumping right into school, both in order to formally begin her journey as a trainer as well as to distract herself from her families’ absence. Perhaps it’s for the best though: it’ll give Yaji and I plenty of time to explore our home away from home as well as get to know the other students. No point dwelling on the negative too much- once we all get settled in and get to know each other, it’ll be fine.

Glancing about, she caught sight of the Alolan Vulpix, a faint puff of mist appearing as it yawned. She had seen pictures of the fire fox pokemon before, but had never seen one in person, let alone the rarer ice variety. It was in truth an endearing little creature, and she couldn’t help but offer it a little wave and smile before turning her attention to its trainer. The silvery haired girl known as Emilia seemed quite confident in herself, not to mention a capable trainer if she had indeed captured a Vaporeon during their travels. Furthermore, based on appearances, Umeko would’ve guessed they were around the same age, though the other girl’s attire was far more elegant than her own. And yet something about her behaviour made the Vermillionite cautious- she knew you weren’t supposed to judge people before you got to know them, but already she got the impression that she was one of those stuck-up cliquey girls. The kind you saw on TV shows as the one who stomps on whomever gets in their way. There had been students like that at her old school back home, and for the most part she got away unscathed by staying clear of their crosshairs. So for the time being, it seemed best to keep a polite distance from her, as charming as her pokemon might be.

It didn’t take long before their troupe reached a large brick building, a pair of students standing by the entrance. The boy, who introduced himself as Koert, proceeded to explain to them some of what the professors had yet to tell them about; of particular note was the Point System which determined when one would graduate. So theoretically, it wouldn’t take all that long to complete the program provided that you do well on the academic work… well, depending on many points are allocated based on grades. That seems far too easy though- I bet there’s some conditions on all that though, like you have to take so many classes on training pokemon, history, and so forth. Or maybe once you’ve collected enough points can you apply for the final exam, like when trainers collect badges to tackle the Elite Four. All of these thoughts drifted through Umeko’s mind such that she largely missed the rest of Koert’s long-winded speech. But she thought she got the gist of it- Zapdos dorm = knowledge, take a trivia quiz, and get settled into their dorms. Upon thanking the girl and pokemon who passed out the papers and glancing over the sheet, a great sigh of relief emanated from her- most of these questions seemed pretty basic. If this is what the rest of her coursework was going to be like, maybe she’d been getting herself worked up over nothing. This’ll be easy peasy. Whipping out a pencil from her bag, the Vermillionite quickly and confidently scribbled down her answers, looking it over a couple times before coming to a pause. There was one which was nagging her, one answer that felt off the mark, and for a few minutes she stared at it, racking her brain for a more appropriate solution. Ultimately though, Umeko made no move to adjust her response, biting her inner cheek in annoyance before passing it back to the girl. “Thanks!” She replied before hefting her bag and proceeding towards her home away from home. Her test results might not be perfect, but better to go with her gut than fret about it too much and end up making mistakes out of nervousness. Whether it would be enough to win the ‘prize’, well, she’d find out soon enough, but if nothing else this would be a chance to see where she stood compared to her peers.

Scanning the entrance hallway, Umeko’s first impression was that it was a cosy space. Perhaps a bit more pristine than she was used to, but all in all nice enough. Catching sight of the looming stairwell however, she felt a small groan emanate from her. It would be nice to have one of those super strong pokemon carry up her suitcase, but she feared she’d slighted them earlier on when first refusing their offer. To come back now and admit her weakness now would be a tad embarrassing on her part. As if sensing her dilemma, a flash of red shot out from her waist and from it appeared her companion, who too seemed taken with their surroundings. “Like it? This is where we’ll be staying the next while- room’s upstairs.” she explained to the clay doll figure, who simply shrugged in acknowledgement. “Bal.” Yaji responded, nodding its head before proceeding to hop up one step at a time. “Great, leave all the work to me. You’re a real pal.” Tugging up her shirt sleeves, the girl's passive expression was replaced by one of firm resolve, and without further ado she began heaving her bags up the stairs. Beneath her breath came the occasional pant or grunt, but after an unnaturally long thirty seconds she reached the top of the flight of stairs. “Hah, ha. hahhh… That’s my strength training for today.” she mumbled to herself, grinning in light of her minute victory. Yajiro, having reached the top in half that time, offered a celebratory wave before proceeding to whip down the corridor.

Peering about the hallway, she spied the orange-haired girl and green-haired guy who’d also been part of their group. Picking up the pace to catch up with them, the pre-teen looked around to see if anyone else was around. “So we’re the only students joining the dorm? Huh, would’ve thought there’d be more of us.” Umeko mused aloud upon reaching earshot of the orange-haired girl… Ophelia, wasn’t it? She looked to be a bit younger than herself, though not by much, but little else could be said about her- she hadn’t made the same, er, bombastic impressions as some of their fellow students. Neither had the boy for that matter, although his last name did ring a bell somehow- she could swear she’d heard it on a news show once or twice, but there were probably a bunch of people with that family name, so that didn't mean much of anything. But judging off first impressions the two seemed nice enough, and if they were going to be living in close quarters for the near future, it wouldn’t hurt to be friendly with each other. Just had to go and break the ice…. Easier said than done.

“Soooooooo… are you two from Kanto? Since your starters’ are natural habitants of the area and all?”

Gray

While the building's outward appearance didn't reflect its namesake very much, the interior seemed befitting of a dorm known for knowledge. The overall design gave off a sophisticated atmosphere, offering a somewhat comforting feeling to those that walked through its doors. An environment like this one probably made it easy for the students to study. Even on the inside, it resembled the large estate he had lived in previously. Although, that familiarity was currently lost on Gray.

Black hair slipping between his fingers, Gray scratched the back of his head as he walked with the Machoke and the girl that had introduced herself as Ophelia. Right now, the boy was having a mental battle with himself. He knew that it would be rude to not say something to his classmate, especially since they would be living under the same roof from now on. However, he still wasn't sure about what to say to her. He could also feel the pressure from V's expectant gaze, which didn't make things any easier.

Thankfully, a new voice would chime in to break the ice. Turning to meet the late arrival, Gray recognized the navy-haired girl as one of the last people to introduce herself after they arrived on the island. It was Umeko, right? He also took notice of the large bags she held, which seemed much heavier than his own luggage. She must've been pretty strong to carry them by herself.

Not wanting to make a bad impression, Gray wore a soft expression, trying to appear friendly as he answered the girl's question. "Ah, I was born in Unova, but I've been to Kanto a few times. My family never stayed in one place for too long." While he may have been born in that faraway region, it was hard to consider it home. He had only lived there for a few years before his parents decided to pack up and move again, so he never developed an attachment to the place. The same went for every other region he had lived in throughout his life, only staying briefly before repeating the cycle once again.

"What about you? Are you from Kanto?" Judging by her name, it seemed likely that she was from the area. Although, the familiar Pokémon at her side made him consider that she could be from Hoenn as well.

Recognizing the Baltoy that accompanied his fellow Zapdos, Gray offered a wave to the Pokémon that previously joined him in watching the approaching island on the ship. V followed suit by jumping from his shoulders to meet the top-like creature on the ground. Like before, a small smile accompanied his large eyes, the dark pupils sparkling as they caught the light.

Ophelia Magnolia

“I’m from Kanto,”
Ophelia declared, her large eyes curiously observing the boyish-looking girl who made her way up the steps carrying some heavy-looking bags. Canvas pants. A plain cotton shirt. Utility vest. Umeko, if Ophelia remembered her name right, looked like she was ready for an excavation rather than school. It was easy to remember the girl since was the last to introduce herself to Professor Slowking. In fact, Umeko had arrived late, a fact which tugged at Ophelia’s curiosity. “Lived in Pallet Town my entire life…”

It wasn’t anything to be proud of, especially considering how worldly Gary/Gray seemed to be. Yet there was little use in pretending otherwise. Ophelia had never been a very good fibber. Even if she didn’t make a cultural mistake somewhere, the 10 year old was fairly sure her guilty expression would give herself away.

“But my mother works on this island and my brother also goes to school here, so I’ve visited RBY Island a couple of times with my granmama. If any of you need help navigating the campus, I could probably do it. I don’t think I’d get lost at least. Still...it’s different when you’re coming here as a student instead of a visitor. Weirder. I mean, that was my first time seeing Professor Slowking…,” Ophelia was babbling. Yet it was difficult to stop once started. “Professor Yew seems to be our dorm advisor, but she makes me a little nervous…especially when she lectured us about following directions and consequences. I’m kind of glad I wasn’t on the receiving end of that.” Gabriel from Alola was…even though the only thing he did was have his pokemon battle one of the pinching krabby instead of gathering around straight away. There was also a quick bit about not inciting pidgey mobs, the context of which was lost to her, since as far as the 10 year old was aware, those vicious pidgeys just suddenly started attacking random trainers on their own… “I feel like she’s the type of teacher to take away points for tardiness. You’re lucky classes haven’t started yet. Why were you late anyway...?” Ophelia paused, changing her line of thought. “Actually, it’s kind of strange don’t you think? Classes won’t start until another month, but points are already getting distributed…they’re like grades aren’t they…?”

While Koert talked, Ophelia had gotten a glimpse of the points in her pokedex. How she got them? Ophelia had no idea. Has RBY already started ranking students?

Ophelia shook her head. No point overthinking things. “Ah, Professor Yew said that the Orientation wouldn't continue until all the Zapdos students are settled in their dorms so we should probably hurry.” She didn’t want to keep Alain waiting too long. Poliwag wasn’t with her either, so she couldn’t introduce her pokemon to her future classmates. Huffing, the orange-haired girl let her gaze travel down the long hallway where the rooms were. There were doors, each labeled with a number, on either side. All the doors seemed to be closed. What now? Boys get the odd numbered rooms. Girls get the even numbered ones. That was the only thing Professor Yew had said.

Ophelia looked to the machoke that carried her small suitcase. “Um…do we just pick an empty room?”

The fighting pokemon nodded. She glanced towards the other first year Zapdoses before her feet began shuffling along the carpet as Ophelia appraised each of the rooms, counting the doors she passed. At least there were name placards underneath numbers, indicating the occupied rooms. Some doors had one name. Some had two. A couple even had three or four, which indicated that rooms could be shared. Turning a corner, Ophelia finally found one without any placards. She reached toward out to open the door…but there was no doorknob. Just some sort of pad where the knob should’ve been. She looked back to the machoke that followed her.

“Machoke. Mah-,”

It point to her back pocket where she’d put her pokedex. Blinking, Ophelia pulled out her pokedex and showed it to machoke. The fighting pokemon took the red device and held it still in front of the pad. Ophelia’s pokedex came to life.

“Zapdos student confirmed. Ophelia Magnolia. Room number 202. Initiating Room Claim.”
Riiight. Hadn’t Professor Yew said the Pokedex would be the key to their dorm? “Room Claim completed.”

The automated door slid open. Ophelia giggled. Wicked. Turning her head, Ophelia decided to inform the others just in case they haven’t figured it out for themselves yet. “You've got to use your pokedex to open the doors!”

She wondered if the option to share rooms was in the Pokedex as well.

Meanwhile...Outside the Zapdos Dormitory
Poliwag decided to stick near the human Alain while its clumsy trainer was in the big building. Though, Ophelia’s friend wasn’t doing much and Poliwag was growing bored. Pacing back and forth, as if marching to its own tune, the amphibious pokemon watched the one called Koert and the brown haired girl grade the paper tests curiously. Such things meant nothing to Poliwag, but its trainer clearly cared, otherwise she wouldn’t have stewed over the quiz for so long. Humans were confusing.

“The answer is technically right…”

“…Kalosian…in order…”

More muttering. It turned to see that Koert’s pickachu on a tree, purposefully keeping a distance from its creepy pokemon look-alike. There were other pokemon about who, much like poliwag, didn’t have much to do either. Poliwag plopped on the ground and began doodling fish with its tail. That was how bored it was. It wasn’t sure how many fish it drew...or how much time had passed...until it heard Ophelia’s voice.

“I’m back~!”

“Poli!”

“Geez, Poliwag. Why didn’t you go with me into the dormitory? Don’t you want to see our room?”

“PoliPoliPoli-li,” Poliwag tried to explain to Ophelia how it was keeping her friend company. Not that its trainer looked like she understood. They never do.

“Well anyway, I think you’ll like it. There’s a lot of space. And I saw a small fridge.” Picking up Poliwag, Ophelia turned to Alain. “I didn’t miss anything did I?”

“Not at all, Miss Magnolia. In fact, it's been rather quiet while you and the other Zapdos students were gone.”

"Of which I'm thankful for. Mr. Mortenson? Miss Albany? Are you two ready?”

The two students in question glanced at the teachers and nodded their heads. Koert stood up, a sheet with him as the blonde boy cleared his throat, waving the soon to be first years to gather around. Or at least be close enough to hear the results of their efforts. Pickachu, who had been up a tree, scurried down to stand beside its trainer. “First of all, to all those who gave the questions a shot…good job. It’s not easy, suddenly being taking a quiz without having studied, without knowing what to expect. That takes courage. The courage to put down an answer, even if you’re unsure. The willingness to venture into the unknown and try new things. To learn from mistakes. So without further ado, we’ll review the answers—,” Cough. “Number one: False. The flames on a charmander’s tail are not regular flames. They are a reflection of the charamander’s emotion and health. Charmanders, and their evolved forms, do not die because their flames go out. Their flames go out because they die. While it’s true many charmander do not like the water, charmanders can, and have by some of our students, been trained to withstand the water such that their tail flame remains unaffected even when swimming. Watch out for those ‘always’.”

“Number two: Spoink. Its heart beats as it bounces. It cannot bounce if it’s off the ground.”

“Number three: Metagross. Four brains.”

“Number four: Espeon, Flareon, Glaceon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Sylveon, Umbreon, Vaporeon. In that order.”

“Number five: Luxray. Its bright glowing eyes can see through walls”

“Number six: Absol.”

“Number seven: Thunderclouds, thunderstorms, or any variation of that.”

“Finally, the bonus answer is Ditto. Sharing the same weight, color, and the only pokemon besides Mew capable of using transform, it is considered a failed clone of Mew according to popular pokemon theory.”

“The questions were designed by our fellow students in the Zapdos Dorm for this years Orientation. If you have any questions regarding the answers, we’d love to review them with you, but I’m sure you’re all waiting to hear who gets the gift from the Zapdos Dorm. I won’t hold it in suspense. Many did well, gave it their best effort, but only one student managed to score the highest...and there’s only one reward." Koert placed his backpack on the ground and undid the zipper. He pulled out an incubator with a pokemon egg inside. Straightening, Koert’s gaze roamed the crowd of would-be-first years for the victor of the first stop event. “Gray Luster. Please come forward to claim your prize.”

Gray Luster, you've been awarded a PokeEgg(10 posts) which I'll add to your items list. Take care of it =) After 10 more posts from you, it'll hatch and I'll reveal what's inside (I'll just randomly generate a baby pokemon). Afterwards Gray is free to catch it and add it to his team. Or not. Entirely up to you. If you don't make 10 posts before the end of the episode, the egg will carry over to the next episode and onward until you reach the 10th post.

Gray

"I think I might take you up on that." Gray maintained the friendly smile as he accepted Ophelia's offer to serve as a guide if either he or Umeko got lost. The island seemed quite large, so having family around must've been convenient when it came to things like finding your way around. Although, as helpful as it sounded, he didn't envy her position.

As he listened to the young girl speak, he recognized the name of her hometown. While he did know about its small size and vast greenery, the most important thing he knew about Pallet Town was its resident Pokémon expert, Professor Oak. It was a name he had heard on a few occasions from his sister, as well as some books he had read in the past. He was one of Kanto's most important researchers. He considered asking Ophelia if he had ever met the man in person, but the redhead quickly reminded him that they still needed to settle into their dorms.

Overhearing what had been said, the two silver ears on V's head twitched a bit before he turned back to his trainer, leaping into a pair of waiting arms. Gray didn't want to hold up the tour any longer, so he began searching for a room of his own shortly after Ophelia left. Boys are in the odd-numbered rooms, right?

Making his way down the carpeted halls, Gray eyed each door that crossed his path, glancing over several names before spotting an empty placard. Luckily, it was marked with an odd number. Room 197. Moving his attention away from the entrance, Gray reached for his Pokédex as V shifted to his free arm. Didn't Professor Yew say that they would work like keys?

As if she could read his thoughts, the distant voice of Ophelia reached his ears, answering the question. "Thanks!" He remembered what the girl had said about the dorm adviser that had given them instructions. While Professor Yew was a bit intense during her chastising of a few students, she didn't seem like a bad person. Maybe she was just passionate about her job.

Turning over the red device in his hand, Gray held it up to the pad on the door's surface. He was surprised to hear a voice when room assignment was confirmed. While he hadn't seen much of the campus or its facilities, RBY Institute seemed to be pretty advanced when it came to technology.

Watching as the door slid open, Gray looked down to the Pokémon in his arm. "Let's make this quick, okay?" Receiving a nod of affirmation, he took his first steps inside. While he would've liked to take some time to observe his new living area, there were still people waiting outside.

Thankfully, Gray's lack of luggage allowed him to get back to the group pretty quickly. He didn't really get a good look at the room, but there'd be another chance to do that after today's activities. For now, his attention would be directed towards Koert, listening to the upperclassman as he read off the answers to the quiz.

Gray hadn't given much thought toward the prize that was offered to whoever scored the highest. He hadn't been overly concerned with coming out on top either. Even when the name of the winner was announced, it took him a few moments to realize that he had been the one called forward.

Feeling a nose poke at his chin, the boy finally began taking steps when V managed to get his attention. As the Eevee repositioned itself to make room for their new companion, Gray carefully took the incubator into his outstretched arms, handling the egg inside with care. "Thank you." Showing gratitude to the older Zapdos, he observed the spotted shell through the clear glass.

A warm smile worked its way to his lips as he held the incubator close to his chest, feeling the heat work its way through his hoodie. With V leaning on his shoulder to get a closer look, he raised the device slightly. "Brings back memories, huh?" It was very nostalgic, causing scenes from many years ago to play through Gray's mind.
