White Masquerade's Blue Oni

Ahem...!
Off the coast of the Kanto region is an island that serves as the grounds for one of the oldest and most famous pokemon boarding schools in the world. Founded by Pokemon Masters Red, Blue, and Yellow, it is currently owned by their descendant, Hazel, and boasts various types of terrains—lakes, rivers, mountains, plains, etc. Abundant pokemon from all over the Kanto region can be found on RBY Island. Not only that, but the graduates produced by the RBY Institution of Pokemon Education, or just RBY Institute for short, are some of the best of the best. In the past 100 years since its founding, the school made quite the name for itself, churning out many Champions, Elite 4 members, Top Coordinators—you name it. It’s a school known for rearing elites.

Having been accepted into the institute, our main characters were invited to RBY Island to attend the orientation for first years. Mailed their pokedex, 6 pokeballs, and a 1-way ticket on the RBY Yaht, the would-be-trainers were told to pack their belongings as well as bring a max of ONE pokemon with them. This where their story begins…
Cue the opening song!

Episode 1: Welcome to RBY Institute!

Breathing in the salty air, Ophelia allowed the kiss of the sea winds and the warmth of the sun’s rays to undo the knots that had been forming in the pit of her stomach ever since climbing aboard the ship that would take her to RBY Island. The home of the famous RBY Institution of Pokemon Education. The place where she would begin her life as a pokemon trainer. Ophelia sighed, feeling her nerves act up again. They shouldn’t. Her mother would be there. Her brother as well. She had it easier than many others who would be stepping foot on the island for the first time. Yet telling herself that didn’t make the unease go away.

The boat she was on was full of them. Kids young and old who had been accepted into RBY Institute. Some weren't even kids, but adults who, for one reason or another, decided their next path in life was to become Pokemon Trainers. All accompanied by the pokemon of their choice. They all seemed so confident (at least in Ophelia's eyes), it was hard to tell that they were all first years like her. Not like being related to faculty of RBY Institute gave her any particular advantage anyway. Neither her brother nor her mother told her anything of what to expect when she received her invitation.

“I wonder what the Orientation will be like…”

Crouching down on her heels, the 10-year old pet the slippery skin of a round, blue creature that was too busy eating to respond to her inquiry. Poliwag sure liked to eat. A lot. Catching the amphibious pokemon was a stroke of luck on her part. She didn’t even really 'catch' it so to say. It had come with her of its own will. Therefore, Ophelia felt it fair to indulge her gluttonous pokemon a little...such that when Poliwag wanted to go on deck and get some food, Ophelia complied, even though she wanted to continue exploring the yaht.

The appearance of a large shadow transiently blocking the light of the sun caused the young girl to look up. High above her a flock of pidgeys flew by, indicating that land probably wasn't too far off . RBY Island. They were almost there. Reaching into her pocket, Ophelia pulled out her newly acquired pokedex, the one mailed to her upon her acceptance into the school, and pointed it at the birds that were most likely inhabitants of RBY.

Ophelia’s Pokedex: Pidgey Pidgey. A flying pokemon. Pidgey has an extremely sharp sense of direction. It is capable of unerringly returning home to its nest, however far it may be removed from its familiar surroundings.

Hm, didn’t know about the last part.

With the data stored in her device, Ophelia was about to put it away when a flash of movement caught her eye...followed by a splash. The dex blared to life once again.

Ophelia’s Pokedex: Vaporeon Vaporeon, the bubble jet pokemon. Vaporeon love fresh, clean water and can make their bodies melt away in water as well.

Running to the edge of the ship, Ophelia leaned over the rails trying to find the agile pokemon. However, it was nowhere in sight. Scanning the surface of the water for a moment longer, the ten-year-old sighed, hand resting on the rails as she looked up at the clear blue sky. Too bad. She had been hoping to get a closer look at Vaporeon. Perhaps she could lure it out of the water with pokemon food? However, after thinking about it some more, Ophelia shook her head rapidly, red pigtails flying about. There was no time. They would probably land on the island within the the hour. Besides, Poliwag was still eating.

“You’ll protect me if a dangerous pokemon attacks me, right Poliwag?”

There was no response from Poliwag except for the sound of munching. Ophelia sighed once again, head resting on her arms, as she pondered what her next 5 years of pokemon schooling would be like...and whether she'd be able to survive it.

And So it Begins!
Alrighty! Your character starts off on the yaht headed towards RBY Island. The wild pokemon available in is area are: Pidgey and Vaporeon. *Note: There is plenty of Pidgey about but only ONE Vaporeon.

Catching wild pokemon means rolling against the gm in the rolz room (See rules in the ooc). It's first come first served in terms of trying to catch wild pokemon. Basically express your character's interests IC, then tag me OOC. You'll be added to the queue of people I'm rolling against (Don't worry if you're confused now, I'll walk you through the process if that's what you want to do). Otherwise, feel free just make an introductory post, chat with other players, making friends/enemies, or doing whatever on the ship. Remember, posts are worth points (which will have plenty of uses as this rp continues), so the more you post, interact others, and do stuff in the rp, the more points you obtain to strengthen your team, pass classes, etc.

Absolutely NO double-posting. There has to be at least one post prior to yours before you can post again. We'll land on 9/17 (rough estimate). Any questions, ask in the OOC. Don't forget to keep an eye on the character sheets for any updates to your character's points, team, etc.

For Each Post
1 paragraph = 1 point.
2 paragraphs = 2 points
3+ paragraphs = 5 points.

Tyko Asters
"*Sniff* Ahhh just smell that air Stinger! Isn't it great?" Tyko stares at his Weedle, Stinger, with a big smile on his face. Part of him was quite impatient but he would satisfy his growing boredom by watching several Pidgey fly on by. Seeing the Pidgey, Tyko would walk towards the railings of the Yacht.

"See that? Pidgey flying in the sky without a care in the world." Stinger would be hanging on part of the wall of the Yacht with String Shot. It stared at the Pidgey, shaking it's body around to simulate flying.

He gives Stinger an understanding nod. "I know you wanna fly buddy, I really do. Someday you're going to evolve into a Beedrill and live your dream of flying. We'll get there together. Now here have some food." A small food bowl would be placed near Stinger that would be filled with sweet Pokemon food.

As the young Weedle eats with content, Tyko goes back to staring at the Pidgey. He uses his new Pokedex to get an entry on it.

"So it can always go back to it's nest no matter how far? That's neat! Hmmm...." He eyes the Pokeballs that he placed onto his belt then back to the flying group of Pidgey. With more widened eyes and a wider smile, he looks to Stinger.

"How would you like to have a Pidgey as your partner?" Stinger flinches as it slowly moves back. "Oh right... I forgot you aren't too comfortable with flying Pokemon. Well... that's fine we can find another Pokemon I'm sure." He looks disappointed but he understands the Weedle's fear of bird Pokemon.

Still there was much to look forward to for the young trainer. RBY Institute was just around the corner. It would still take a while to get there but Tyko felt prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. It was going to be special and he knew it.

The weedle finished it's meal and stared at the passing by Pidgey. It didn't want to be afraid of Bird Pokemon forever. If it wanted to become a strong Beedrill, it would need to get over it's fears someday. It would squirm over and nudge itself against Tyko as it stares at the Pidgey.

Tyko looks to Stinger and stares at the Pidgey. Upon putting two and two together, he was net with excitement.

"You don't mind? Wow... that's awesome! You're starting to get over yout fear. Does that mean you'll be fine meeting it all the time?" It gave a shocked expression as it slowly moves back. "Ok... maybe not yet. It's a work in progress though."

Emilia Emory
Emilia was walking along the deck of the ship. She had a wide hat on to protect her skin from the sun and a Keo in her arms to keep the heat away. Normally she'd have still been below deck waiting to arrive at her destination, but right now she was on a mission. Many of the upstart trainers aboard the ship had their pokemon out and about, meaning she could use her pokedex to scan all of their pokemon now. Chances were she'd have to battle a few of these people in the future, and knowing about their pokemon ahead of time would make winning that much easier. She pulled out her pokedex and got to work.

One boy had a Weedle. That one would be a joke. A younger girl had a Poliwag. That one might be annoying... just kidding. Keo hates water. That little tadpole would just make him angry, and an angry Keo might take a battle seriously for once. Either way an easy win. A shadow passed over the deck of the ship. Emilia looked up and pointed her pokedex at the flock of bird pokemon flying overhead to see if there was anything worth catching. Pidgey. Weak and ugly and therefor not worth my time. She went back to scanning peoples' pokemon. As she walked past the girl who owned the Poliwag she heard something that made her stop. The girl's pokedex had just scanned a pokemon. A Vaporeon. Emilia turned.

She'd thought right, no one nearby had a Vaporeon, at least not outside of a pokeball. The girl's pokedex was pointed towards the water. That meant that the Vaporeon was most likely wild! "Change in plans. Keo, time to fight." She pointed the fox in her arms towards the water. "Find that Vaporeon. Fire Ice Shard at the water." Keo tilted his head, not really understanding what its owner was saying, but he obediently opened its mouth and fired icy spears at the blue waves down below. As far as he knew he was just trying to kill the ocean with ice, and that was something he could get behind.

Meanwhile, at the bow of the ship, David was just standing there. He appeared deep in thought, or perhaps lost in memory, as he watches the waves bash mercilessly against the hull of the yacht. No matter how rough the ocean shook the ship, however, and no matter how relentless storms or wind got David never seemed to mind. His balance was clearly superior to most, effectively being raised on the endless sea, and he appeared capable of even predicting the unpredictable blue waves; bracing when a particularly choppy wave was about to hit. The only free time he didn't spend at the front of the ship was at the captain's helm - not really protocol, David understood, but the captain was happy to have another seafarer in the cabin. The captain was even old friends with his dad, so many an hour was spent regaling each other of various tales and laughs.

As a result, however, David didn't really spend much time with the other passengers. Not even Calcum, his Riolu, hung around the other passengers or their Pokémon - ultimately, the little blue Pokémon had never really come into contact with other Pokémon let alone trained Pokémon. Besides, Calcum was almost a mirror image of David - passionate about the sea. He spent a lot of his time dangling over the sides, smiling with a childish grin as the water flowed through his paws. Then, as quick as a penny dropping, he'd want to be up high on top of the many radio dishes and other nautical equipment located above the captain's cabin.

David was still in the captain's cabin when a flock of Pidgey arrived. It seemed odd, David thought, that Pidgey would fly out this far, but he guessed it may be down to migration. Still, he was a bit curious, and he needed to fill up his Pokedex anyways, so he left the captain to his duties and stepped out into the briny sea air. A deep breath later, he pulled the electronic device from his trouser pocket and pointed it towards the Pidgey flock. No sooner than the automated voice had finished its speech, however, he heard something else. Something...well, something he definitely wasn't expecting to find this deep in the ocean. A Vaporean, from what he remembered - a quick message from another girl's Pokedex soon confirmed that.

Still, David had little interest in either of the Pokémon. He decided, as did Calcum, to sit back and let everyone else have their fun. Besides, there were other Pokémon he was hoping to see out on this journey to catch anyway, so he needed Calcum ship shape to fight it.

It was finally time. Time for the next stage in their lives to begin. And it all started with this boat ride. Justin was, like so many other new trainers on board the ship headed for the RBY Institute, comfortably lounging on the ship's deck while keeping to himself. This might be his last chance in a while to catch some rays, and Justin fully intended on doing just that. After having set up his lounge chair in the best spot he could find, rail side of course, Justin and his turtle companion had hunkered down for the long haul. Wearing only his black swim trunks, Justin laid in his chair in comfort with his hands behind his head. Beside him laying on the deck was his Wartortle, the turtle Pokemon just as sprawled out and as comfortable as he could be. Between the two sat Justin's almost overstuffed suitcase laid atop his surf board. Hey, you never know when you might get the chance to catch some waves.

Justin kept his eyes closed, listening to the goings on around him. From the sound of it, a fair number of his fellow first years were younger than him. That wasn't going to be any fun. Then again, he wasn't going to the island to have fun. He was going to learn. Opening an eye, Justin's attention would go to his Wartortle. “You know Napoleon. This may be the last time for a while you get the chance to go for a swim. If I were you I'd take it.” The Wartortle would wave his friend's suggestion off with a wave of his hand, Justin giving the lightest of shrugs. “It is pretty comfy, isn't it?” Justin would grin, shifting so one hand came to rest over the large diagonal scar that covered his lower abdomen.

Just as he closed his eyes Justin would hear the hub bub start up about a flock of Pidgey and a Vaporeon, the blonde sighing lightly as he opened both eyes and looked up. Sure enough, flying overhead was a rather large flock of the tiny flying Pokemon. Bigger than Justin had thought he would see. Watching the birds, Justin would lick his lips. Flying Pokemon had wings. Wings were good. Especially if he was the one that made them. “Whaddya say Napoleon? I could go for some wings right about now.” The Wartortle would grunt and sit upright, looking to his trainer. He would point to himself before to the birds, all the while speaking in poke-speak. Justin couldn't understand poke-speak, but it was clear from his Wartortle's charades what he was asking. “You hit it with an attack of course. Look, Napoleon, it's not brain science or rocket surgery here. You'll either hit it, or you won't. If you hit it, you'll either knock it out or piss it off, and come down here for some payback. Either way, you hit it and it'll come down.” Justin hadn't even bothered to sit up for his argument, instead shifting just slightly just so he was facing the Wartortle better. “Look. Just fire your Hydro....cannon....pump thing whatever at it. Imma take a nap. You let me know how that works out.” With that Justin would again close his eyes and turn back on to his back, moving his hand back to behind his head.

Napoleon would shake his head at Justin's decision, turning his attention back to the Pidgey flock overhead. If he attacked and hit one of the Pidgey, it was as Justin said. He was sure to piss the one he hit off. The only problem was that Justin didn't take in to account the fact that the other Pidgey might get pissed and attack as well. It wasn't uncommon for wild Pokemon to believe in strength in numbers. He remembered those days. Still, it wasn't like he and Justin were the only Pokemon and trainer duo on the ship. There were others. Surely some of them would fight as well if the Pidgey flock attacked, right? Right. He hoped that was right. If he didn't do as Justin said, he might be seen as a disobedient Pokemon and get the two of them kicked out of the school before they even docked. That wouldn't go over well with anyone. So, after a moment dedicated to thinking the Wartortle would open his mouth and take in a big breath before firing the requested Hydro Pump at the flock of Pidgey. ((This should be a good way to spice the start of our adventures together off!! :D ))

Emilia Emory
Emilia turned slowly to direct Keo's Ice Shard across the surface of the water. It was only a few seconds before her efforts were rewarded. A patch of water separated from the rest as it was pelted by bits of ice. The water shimmered and gathered into the form of a Vaporeon jumping out of the water. Keo stopped using Ice Shard out of surprise. There was a thing in that water! He needed to help it!

Emilia allowed herself a small smile. The pokemon really should have dove deeper to avoid the attack. If it had there was no way she could reach it. But by leaving the water it not only lost it's camouflage, it also wouldn't be able to avoid the follow-up attack. "Keo, Freeze-Dry!" The ice fox opened its mouth and shot a white ball towards the mid-air Vaporeon. But the shot was just a bit off. Instead of a direct hit the attack hit low, freezing the pokemon's front feet, as well as covering the surface of the water below it with a layer of ice. Keo barked with pride at what it had done. He'd saved that pokemon from falling back into the water. Emi would be so happy!

To her credit Emilia had expected something just like this from Keo. The fox wasn't exactly a tactical genius, especially when there was water involved. He probably thought the battle was between him and the water instead of the Vaporeon. "Keo, use Freeze-Dry again, exactly where you just did!" The Vulpix obediently fired off a second shot without any hesitation. Emi knew best, so he listened to Emi. The Vaporeon gathered a ring of water to retaliate with a Water Pulse, but it landed on the iced-over surface of the water and slipped on its frozen paws. The Water Pulse went wild, hitting the surface of the water off to one side with a splash, just as Keo's second Freeze-Dry hit it dead-center. This time the water pokemon was frozen solid. It bobbed on the surface of the water like a super-realistic ice sculpture.

She stared at it, for a few seconds just as frozen as the Vaporeon. She'd... won. She and Keo had just won a pokemon battle. And it hadn't even been close. All of her studying and practice had really paid off! Emilia jumped and hugged Keo even tighter. Oh wait, she was forgetting something important. Emilia pulled a small red and white ball from the ribbon around her waist. This would be the first, but there would be many more to follow. She tapped the black button on the ball to make it grow to full size and took a deep breath. Time to do this. She set Keo down on the deck, took a step back, and threw the ball towards the frozen pokemon.

It splashed into the water nowhere near the Vaporeon she was trying to catch. Emilia's eyes grew wide. She had to actually hit the pokemon to catch it!? The look on her face was one of utter defeat, quickly replaced by stubborn anger. No, she was going to do this! The ball flew back into her hand, so she took aim again, and threw as hard as the could. It fell into the water right next to where it had before. She was about ready to cry. After winning the battle she wasn't going to catch the pokemon because she couldn't throw a pokeball? No, she was better than this! She picked Keo back up. "Keo, fire an Ice Shard towards the pokemon, but right over it. Don't hit it directly." The Vulpix didn't understand, but it did as told. Emilia threw the pokeball same as the last two times, but this time it got hit by one of the chnks of ice Keo was firing off into the water and flew even further. The ball fell onto the makeshift iceberg and rolled into the frozen Vaporeon. There was a flash of red light as the pokemon was sucked into the ball. The indicator light blinked once, twice, three times... and that was that.

Emilia jumped up and down, almost dropping Keo as the pokeball returned to her. "I did it, I did it, I DID IT! Vaporeon you are mine!" In her excitement Emilia didn't notice that her hat had flown off during the battle. Keo wasn't quite sure why Emi was so happy all of a sudden - Maybe he'd succeeded in killing the water? - but if Emi was happy then so was he. The little white fox wiggled in Emilia's arms from side to side, showering her arms and the deck with powdery snow.

Battling and Catching Pokemon
Whooo! First pokemon battle of episode 1 ends in victory for Emilia and Keo. And with that, points are earned. "Alright Stinger use Poison Sting and carefully aim it at the body!" Stinger would unleash it's poison sting attack at one of the flying Pidgey. Several thin needles would be heading towards the bird's proximity. Upon noticing this, the opposing Pidgey would unleash a Gust attack to try and deflect the attack however some of the needles would ultimately hit the Pokemon. Typo smiles and says, "Nice job!"

The Pidgey was not out for the count just yet and would swoop in with it's wings stretched out, it was going to use Wing Attack. "Here comes another attack... Use String Shot!" The Weedle would unleash a web of string in front of itself. As the Pidgey would swoop on in, it would tangle through the web as some string gets stuck to it's wings, ultimately missing attack.

"Awesome! If we get this then we can catch a Pidgey!!" It wouldn't be too long before then but the Pidgey had other plans. With eyes of a predator, it would unleash a powerful gust attack against the Weedle. "Oh no Stinger use String Shot to protect yourself!" As the Weedle shot out string in front of itself to form a shield, the gust attack would pierce through and hit the Weedle causing it to slam to the wall.

Tyko's eyes widened upon seeing his Pokemon hurt. "Hang in there Stinger!" The relentless Pidgey was going in for the kill with a final Wing Attack. "This is all or nothing... Stinger use Poison Sting!!!" With that the two Pokemon would clash with their move but... the Pidgey would strike the Weedle, causing Stinger to faint. Upon the end of the battle, the Pidgey would fly away as if nothing had even happened.

Typo would hurry onto the Weedle and recalled it back into it's Pokeball. "Return! Sorry you got hurt like that... you did good though." He would put the Pokeball away as he would have to wait for a Pokemon Center. For now he would stare at the sky feeling disappointed not in Stinger but rather himself. 'I know Bug-types are weak against Flying but... me and Stinger were up for it. It really stinks but... we'll get them next time. I just know it,' he thinks to himself as he gives a smile to cheer himself up.

"Just you wait... we'll get a Pokemon for sure! Hopefully we'll land soon and I can get to the Pokemon Center." He decides to lie his back against the wall as he thinks about the challenges that would lie ahead for him and Stinger. Despite everything that the two had in disadvantage, they wouldn't be quick to give up. To them this was far from over as they would be sure to strike back much harder than before.

"Gaaaaasss. Gaaaaaassssss!"

"Mmrmm?" A sharp yawn left the boy's mouth as he rubbed his eyes. For a moment, it almost seemed as if he had contracted amnesia - he looks around at all the unfamiliar faces around him before looking over the the gaseous creature. He blinked before bringing his fist to his open palm in a moment of recollection. Right now, he was on the ferry headed towards RBY Island. There, he'd be enrolled into the RBY Institute and take his first steps towards being a trainer...!

"Or... something like that. Hmm, Grandpoppy really insisted on enrolling me in one of these academies, but didn't people use to just send kids out on their own to travel? I guess times change." He stood up from his seat and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He had barely caught the ferry at port after flying out from Kalos. Standing up, the first-year crouched down and retrieved his bag from the storage space underneath the ferry's seating. It wasn't too fashionable, but the extra strap allowed it to be carried messenger bag-style as well. A qucik pat down as he slipped on the backpack confirmed that the contents were still in there: shrunken Poké Balls, a baguette, and a guidebook to Kanto.

"Gaaaas!"

"I know, know. I just want to make sure that I've got everything Rictus." Slipping a hand into his left pocket, the boy felt the cold metal contours of a certain device. A Pokédex, and one of the latest versions as that. Though, he vaguely recalled hearing about living Pokédexes that were being field tested in Alola. Somehow - apparently there was a certain Pokémon that was able to inhabit electronic devices. He checked his other pocket for his small wallet and the ferry's ticket stub. With a final nod and a fiery smile, the young boy stepped out onto the deck of the ship with his companion floating closely behind.

"Mm, so this is what the sea breeze is like~! I didn't think it'd be this refreshing!"

"Gaaasss!"

Their faces practically melted into smiles as they found themselves bathed by the salty sea breeze and bright sun. Gazing off to the sides of the boat afforded them a view of the glistening ocean waters as that swayed ever so gently. He took note of the others there as well: a girl who looked to be his age, an elegant girl with blue hair, a blonde man, and a boy wearing goggles who looked to be brooding. To his right, he spotted the flock of Pidgey flying alongside the boat. They weren't particularly mind-blowing; Kalos had its fair share of the birds. Still, the view from the ships was something beautiful to the boy. Scenery that would make the great backdrop to a snack. The Gastly eyed his trainer as he set down the bag and broke off a piece of the Kalosian baguette. Of course, the Ghost was prepared - it seemed the scent of the food had attracted one of those birds! The sharp cry from its beak alerted the boy as Gastly sprang into action against the feathered fiend.

Emilia Emory
Continuing her stroll around the deck of the ship, Emilia found herself no longer caring about the other trainers or their pokemon. She was too pleased with herself having successfully caught her first pokemon to be bothered with caring about lesser trainers. The girl was humming merrily as she practically skipped around the deck, the pokeball containing her prize held in front of her for her to admire. "Va~po~re~on~I~caught~you~" She was in such a good mood she was even singing, in front of people. How embarrassing. Keo was trying to dance as he jumped around in front of his owner, falling over every few steps as he tried moving his feet in too many directions. Hehe, how embarrassing.

Keo stopped his dancing as something caught his attention. A few seconds later the cause came into Emilia's view. It was the Weedle boy and his... Weedle. They were battling a single Pidgey. They were losing to a single Pidgey. And... they'd lost to a single Pidgey. How embarrassing. She watched the bird pokemon as it flew away to rejoin the rest of the flock, but instead it was the entire flock of Pidgey that were headed directly at the ship. Was it just her imagination, or did all those birds look kind of angry? No, they were definitely angry. Had someone aboard the ship done something to make them angry?

To her own surprise Emilia found she didn't really care why the pokemon were coming at her. It was an exhilarating feeling. She wanted to battle them, every single one. This was what she'd been looking for. With an almost unconscious motion she shrunk down the pokeball in her hand and stuck it to her belt. "Keo, you ready to do this?" The fox pokemon yipped. "Good. Ice Shard!"

Trey Asters
As Trey relaxes by the wall, he would forget about having a Super Potion and decided to use it. "Come on out Stinger." The tired and injured Weedle would be doing it's best to stay on the positive. With the Super Potion in use, Weedle would feel rejuvenated as it's strength would return once more. Trey gives an earnest smile as he pets the Weedle on the back. "Sorry for putting you in a bad battle like that. Still glad to see you're alright." The Weedle lets out a happy-sounding noise. Even if they had lost the battle, they would gain quite a bit of battle experience from it. Trey was still getting used to battle but he knew that it would only be a matter of time before the two really improved. He would then notice a girl and her Vulpix about to fight a flock of Pidgey from earlier.

With a curious and optimistic look about him, he decides to head on over to see more of the action.
"Come on Stinger let's go!" As the two make their way to where the girl and her Vulpix were, he gets a sight of the Pidgey. "Hey... they look a lot more angrier than before. Was it our battle? Hmm... I don't know I guess it must've been but that Pidgey flew away. Did someone else battle them too?" Despite what was going on, Trey felt the itch to battle and wanted to join in on the action. Surely the girl wouldn't mind if someone else joined in on the battle right? There were plenty of Pidgey so it wouldn't matter that much hopefully. Maybe he might catch the one from before. It all depends really.

"Alright let's join in. You ready for round two?" The Weedle happily obliged, wanting some revenge from earlier. With a large grin, Trey would go on the offensive as the two turn to the flock of Pidgey. "Poison Sting!" Maybe this time they would be able to successfully fight off the Pidgey but it was a group of them. Thankfully there was another trainer who was going to fight them as well, even more lucky that it was an Ice-Type that would fight. Trey looks over to the girl and says to her, "Sorry if it looks like we're butting in. We just want to battle too! Hope you don't mind!!"

Ophelia

“Wow,” Ophelia breathed, her eyes growing wide at all that was going on around her. “Insane.”

She had been watching when an elegant looking girl, probably a couple years older than her, caught the pokemon she’d been interested in. It was…quite the sight. Her companion was a vulpix. But it wasn’t like any vulpix Ophelia had ever seen before. It was white. Pure white like snow. Her pokedex revealed that it was a vulpix from the far off region of Alola.

Alola.

She’d like to go there someday. Clutching the hat that had flown in her direction in the midst of the silvery blue-ish haired girl’s battle, Opelia lost the chance to return it to the happy, older girl as she skipped around the deck of the luxury yaht…singing. Was she singing? It was a lovely voice at least. She watched the girl then proceed to challenge a flock of angry-looking pidgeys. Confident. Just like Olympia. The older girl was joined by another boy…the one whose weedle lost to pidgey. Ophelia had been about to go comfort that boy, but he clearly didn’t need it. He was already rearing to go.

“PoliPoliPoliPoliPoli!”

Poliwag waddled towards her looking excited. It had finally finished its food. Picking up the round tadpole pokemon, Opelia shook her head.

“No, no, Poliwag. You can’t battle them.”

“PoliPoli?”

“I don’t want you to. We’re about to land soon anyway. With so many pidgey flying about, I’m guessing land’s not far off.”

Poliwag pouted. Walking over to where a boy and his pokemon seemed to be fighting a pidgey…over a piece of bread. She aimed her pokedex at the scary-looking ghost pokemon.

Ophelia's Pokedex Gastly. This Pokémon's body is 95% made up of gases, which are blown away by strong gusts of wind.

Blinking, Ophelia stored that bit of info for later and simply sat down as she watched the Pidgey and Gastly fight. Poliwag was cheering in her arms. Who for? Ophelia had no idea. “Is the bread that good?” Ophelia asked the boy curiously. “I’m Ophelia by the way. Ophelia Magnolia.” She found it easier to talk to someone her age.

Speakers from somewhere on the luxury yaht suddenly came to life. It was the voice of the Captain. "Attention, Passengers. RBY Island, the grounds of one of the most famous pokemon schools in the Kanto region, is in sights. We will land in roughly half an hour. I repeat, we land in roughly half an hour. Whatever you are doing aboard my fine vessel, please finish quickly."

Ophelia glanced over to the shape of the island, which was visible on the horizon, before returning her eyes to the boy her age. Probably. Hugging Poliwag in one arm, the elegant girl's hat in the other, Ophelia smiled. "It's nice to meet you."

Changes Must Be Made!

So, with the advent of all that’s going on, I’ve decided to make some changes are in order to improve this rp and make it more enjoyable for everyone. Expect me to do this a lot, as this system is still in its trial and error stage. Prices have been changed in the Pokeshop. Keeping that thread on watch is to your convenience. In addition, I’ve added a new rule. Damage Retainment. After every battle, the hp lost from that battle remain lost until a visit to the pokemon center, infirmary, or the use of potions. Thank you.

"Alright let's go for a Poison Sting!" Stinger would start off by damaging the flock of Pidgey that would come on by. Meanwhile the girl, who really didn't like Trey butting in on the battle, would focus on just heavily damaging the Pidgey due to the Vulpix using an ice attack. Despite the small damage he was doing in comparison, Trey didn't really mind at all. It was just another battle that the two would go through.

"That's the way Stinger! Keep at it with Poison Sting!" While the girl didn't want Trey to interrupt her battle, it would still be known that Weedle was able to help the Vulpix knock out the Pidgey at a much faster rate. Things seemed to be going rather well. In fact Weedle was able to survive for a majority of the Pidgey by avoiding most of their attacks. Sure the Vulpix was able to make the process go much faster, it still didn't change the fact that Stinger was doing rather well for a Bug-type that didn't have any super-effective moves against Flying-types.

Of course all went well until Stinger would fall to a Pidgey's attack causing Trey to recall back into it's Pokeball. "Back in the ball Stinger. You did really well." The girl would go to state how useless Trey was but he was just too optimistic to focus on her statements. Ironically it was Stinger who was able to help Vulpix K.O the Pidgey in the first place as well as the fact that Weedle was a Bug-Type. Still it didn't bother Trey too much, though he was still a bit disappointed that the two couldn't have seen the battle till the end. Trey would go on to watch the Vulpix take on the last, yet rather angry, Pidgey.

Upon the fight ending, Trey would throw a Pokeball at the K.O'ed angry Pidgey and would smile upon catching it. He finally caught a Pokemon with the help of not just the Vulpix, but Stinger as well. The girl left after giving a pity-glare but Trey wouldn't really be able to tell that it was pity in the first place. "Something tells me she isn't too fond of teamwork. I'm sure she'll come to know the power of teamwork someday! I just know it." He smiles as he hears the Captain speaking from the speakers. He rushes to the front of the ship to glance at the shape of the Island. An overwhelming burst of excitement came over him as he couldn't wait.

Trey looks to the Pokeball containing the newly caught Pidgey. "I'm going to call you 'Ace.' Hope we can get along good."

As soon as the watery blast was unleashed Justin would shoot both eyes open, turning his attention towards his still attacking Wartortle. “Wait, you actually did it? I was kidding you shell shocked nincompoop! Pidgey are way too small to make wings out of.” Justin sighed, his Wartortle looking back to him. You tell me this NOW!?! Turning his attention back to the flock of Pidgey, Justin noticed a few of them had broken off from the rest of the flock. “Well we're in too deep now. Better hunker down. We've got friends in coming.” If they could beat all 5 Pidgey in one fell swoop it would be quite the show for his fellow first years. But deep down Justin wasn't sure they could actually do it.

The Pidgey all dove as one unit in a V formation, leaving no room for their target to dodge to the left or right. They had done this before and were ready for a fight. Maybe if he could wear them down one by one, possibly even beat just 1 of them, the other 4 would scatter. Good plan, but it would take a lot to make it work. “Use Bite on the middle one!” Justin would order, his Wartortle hunkering down as instructed and bracing himself for impact. Since it was the one in the middle, maybe it was the leader of the other 4. As the Pidgey flock approached their wings all began to glow white, Justin not seeing it in time to be able to react. His Wartortle was able to follow through with Justin's plan, his teeth sinking in to the right wing of the middle Pidgey, causing a localized explosion of black smoke. At the same time, the middle Pidgey's fellow flockmate's wings also struck his Wartortle, forcing the turtle to let go of his prey after the damage had been done and knocking him out of the black smoke cloud. This was going to be harder than he thought.

Wartortle stood, a fire burning in his belly now for the fight he had found himself in. The Pidgey flock was already back in the air and looking down on their prey, the first taking off higher in to the sky before back down at the Wartortle, picking up speed as they dove. "Alright. Up close and personal didn't work. Lets try to keep em at bay. Hydro Pump!" Again the watery based attack was launched at the still advancing Pidgey. The lead Pidgey would suddenly spread his wings to slow his descent while his comrades continued forward in to the attack. The four advancing Pidgey would shift so they swooped in two by two, stacked on top of each other. Like before, their wings would glow white. The lead Pidgey would follow after his comrades and like they, his wings too would begin to again glow white. As the Pidgey quartet met the hydro pump head on their combined Wing Attacks would at first keep the Hydro Pump at bay, but eventually would begin to part the attack in to two streams of water, one aimed downward in to the ocean while the other went over the boat, landing in the water on the other side of the boat. The lead Pidgey would swoop in behind his comrades then, flying between the two rows and directly in to the Hydro Pump attack. His Wing Attack was able to split the Hydro Pump down the middle as he descended towards the Wartortle, Justin not believing what he was seeing. This was bull shit and he knew it! The Pidgey again made contact with his Wartortle, knocking it back a few more feet and almost knocking the Wartortle in to a Poliwag.

Alright, now Justin was irritated. There was no way 5 wild Pidgey were this coordinated. Someone had to be pulling the strings somewhere, right? He hoped so. And whoever it was needed to lay off! Before the Pidgey could regroup Justin was already calling out for another Hydro Pump, the Pidgey flock turning around. First the lead Pidgey, than the rest of his flock. As each bird turned, their eyes had a light twinkle emit from them for just a second, Justin not being sure what that was but not liking the look of it either. Out of nowhere the 5 Pidgey would launch their own Hydro Pump barrage at Wartortle, surprising both Justin and his pokemon companion. They were flying types, not water! They shouldn't be able to know Hydro Pump! It was like he was fighting a Mirror version of himself now! A flying, Mirror version! The 5 Hydro Pumps would combine in to one mega Hydro Pump with enough force to knock the Wartortle at an angle that he went flying off the ship, Justin getting up and running to the ship's hand railing and trying to recall his Wartortle before he hit the ocean. He failed, his Wartortle surfacing a few seconds later with Xs for eyes and spitting up a light stream of water. Sighing in relief Justin would recall his Wartortle to his Dive Ball, holding the ball close to his chest. "Bullshit Pidgey with their Bullshit 5 bird attacks. If I ever catch a Pidgey his names gonna be Bullshit." Justin looked up, seeing the flock of Pidgey eyeing him for a second before turning and heading to rejoin the rest of their flock. They were leaving. Justin would sigh, looking to the Dive Ball in hand. "One on one you would've kicked his ass. But for what its worth, you did good out there Napoleon." Justin sighed lightly, looking back out to the ocean as the announcement came over the intercom. "Told you you shoulda taken that swim." Maybe then they wouldn't be in this predicament.

Gray

Leaning against the ship's railing, Gray observed the crashing waves with a set of eyes that matched the crystal blue waters, feeling the heat on his neck as his view was occasionally obstructed by a dark bang that caught the cool sea breeze. Allowing his chin to rest against crossed arms, the boy gazed out into the vast azure, nose filling with the familiar scent of salt. He was pretty accustomed to travelling, whether it was through the sky or ocean, never staying in one place for too long as he grew up. Although, this was the first time he had done it alone.

Briefly removing an arm from the metal bar, Gray reached for the red device in his pocket. Turning the Pokédex from side to side, he gave the encyclopedia a small inspection. He was already familiar with it, often seeing his family members put it to use. Now, he had one of his own. It felt somewhat odd in his hands, as if it didn't belong there.

While he couldn't see his own expression, Gray could tell that he must've been looking a bit glum as he felt a soft sensation across his chin. Sure enough, when he looked down, the boy was met with shiny silver as V poked his head out from the small nest he had made inside of his hoodie. Sticking its head out from the ashen collar, the Eevee offered its trainer an affectionate nuzzle. It appeared as if the Pokémon wore a smile as it looked up to the boy with bright, comforting eyes.

Gray grew a smile of his own, reaching to scratch the white tuft of hair amid the silver coat, shining brighter than usual as it caught the sun's rays. Rubbing between the creature's pair of long ears, he gave a small nod before returning to the view in front of him. "Yeah, that's right." Part of the reason he was on this ship was to get away from those unpleasant thoughts. Dwelling on them would defeat the purpose.

Catching a shadow that blocked the warmth from above, Gray looked upward to see a flock of Pidgey flying overhead. He gave a brief glance to his Pokédex before pointing it toward the birds of Kanto. While he already knew about the Pokémon and didn't really have a personal interest in gathering data, he assumed that the academy intended for the students to fill the encyclopedias when they were sent out. It would also serve as a pretty welcome distraction.

While he was doing his best to avoid letting negative thoughts and memories surface in his mind, doing so became a bit more difficult when a familiar blue creature flashed across the small screen of his Pokédex. He stared at the image for a while, somewhat in disbelief that he'd run into something like this so soon after leaving home. Moving his focus from an image to the real thing, Gray watched as the Vaporeon swam beneath the waves. 'What are the odds?'

As his eyes followed the aquatic Pokémon, he was surprised by the sudden barrage of ice being launched toward the water and the creature that hid beneath it. Apparently, someone else had been focused on the Vaporeon as well, seeing a blue-haired girl and what looked to be an Alolan Vulpix begin their attack. For a moment, Gray silently hoped to himself that the she would be unsuccessful, something he felt guilty for.

Gray had no desire to catch the Vaporeon for himself. Far from it. The sight of if reminded him of his mother, distant and out of reach like a fleeting wave. Although, that moment of hope was mostly born from concern for his partner. It would bring back similar memories for V, albeit ones that were less pleasant than his own.

Regardless of his own feelings on the matter, the fellow student managed to successfully capture her target, letting out a joyous tune as she walked away. Seeing her excitement only added to how bad he felt for allowing a thought like that to cross his mind, however brief it may have been. As he watched her, it seemed as though V had also taken notice, peering out from the collar of his hoodie with ears drooping a bit low.

Gently running a hand through V's fur, Gray was about to speak, but stopped short as he finally took notice of what was happening around him. It really was unbelievable. It was as if all-out war had been declared against every Pidgey in the area. Not just one. The whole flock was in on it, and they didn't look to happy.

Partly because of his desire to help V get his mind off things, and partly because of the chance of a rogue Pidgey attacking out of a need for revenge, Gray suggested that the two of them head below deck to grab the rest of their things before making it to port. Conveniently, the captain of the ship announced that they would be docking soon. He could tell that V was also happy to hear the news as he sought refuge inside his hoodie one again. The flying Pokémon seemed to be getting more agitated as the battles went on. "Yeah...below deck sounds good."

A black haired, blue eyed boy of few words was sitting away from the mass of pokemon and pokemon trainers trainers, a book in one hand and earphones playing music as he read of the various pokemon situated on RBY Island. He sat with his legs crossed in front of him and occasionally glanced up to watch the younger kids, and someone around his age, try and fail to take on a flock of Kanto's basic bird type, Pidgey. Gabriel sighed to himself, looked over to his Partner, who had been sitting and watching the whole fiasco on the seat next to him and with an unimpressed glance spoke.
"Perhaps it was a bad idea coming here."
The pokemon only responded by tilting it's head slightly towards him, although Gabriel couldn't tell if it was on purpose or just the way the head had fallen.Looking back out to the group of students he responded to his Pokemon's non-response.

"I guess I shouldn't judge them but still, I was hoping to see at least something from the younger years. Least the one with the Weedle managed to catch one."

As the heat of battle seemed to fade from the ship Gabriel could hear his dad's voice in the back of his head, telling him to try and tolerate people at the very least or making some good friends at the very best. Knowing that what his father said made sense, especially since other trainers would usually provide the best opposition in training, he decided on trying to at least engage with some of his now classmates . Making a decision in his head he decided on the young lady with the Volpix and newly acquired Vaporeon. Considering she had the Alolan Volpix maybe he could connect with her on their shared home region and besides, something seemed familiar although, as far as he could remember, the two had never met.

Gabriel double checked to make sure he had everything before slinging his backpack over his shoulders, so it rested neatly on his back, picking up his suitcase containing his pokeballs and Violin, and headed over to the female trainer. Mimikyu followed creepily behind him as usual, and used his free hand to wave and otherwise make himself known.
"
Alola miss. My name is Gabriel, and this is my partner Mimikyu. I know he is scary but he won't do anything unless you aggravate him. Which island do you come from if you don't mind me asking?"

Mimikyu shuffled slowly so it stood besides Gabriel and glared at both Volpix and it's trainer with its usual creepy not smile. Ghost types usually had a resting face that was scary but the fact Mimikyu's expression was always un-moving always seemed to make things worst.

Emilia Emory
A whole section of the flock veered to fly right towards her and Keo as the ice pokemon's attack split them away from the rest. One tho three four... ten. That was a lot. "Stay sharp Keo, we're outnumbered." An attack flew past to strike the lead Pidgey. Emilia glanced over he shoulder. It was Weedle Boy, butting into her fight. Gross.

The lead Pidgey was taken out by Keo's Ice Shard. The Weedle fired off another Poison Sting at the next closest bird. "Stay out of my way Weedle Boy!" Emilia growled at the pair of pests. Another volley of chunks of ice took out the second Pidgey.

"There's a lot of them so let's try for teamwork!" The pest yelled back. "Stinger use Poison Sting!"

"I don't need your help to beat these weaklings." Keo shot down a third.

"I'm sure you don't since ice type has the advantage. But hey the more the merrier right? Poison sting!"

Emelia growled in frustration at the annoying little boy. "Keo wipe every single one out!" The fox pokemon yipped cheerfully then cut through the group of Pidgey with another black of ice. One more crashed down onto the deck of the ship. Four. "Just don't get in my way weakling!"

One of the dumb birds must have noticed the worm firing at it, because it suddenly veered off to attack in instead of the much more dangerous Vulpix. The Weedle fired off another Poison Sting, but the bird pokemon hit it with Gust at the same time. A while ball slammed into the Pidgey before it could go for another attack. It fell onto the deck with an icy thunk. "Can't you even take down a single one of these things?" Emilia was only getting more and more annoyed dealing with this weakling.

"Sorry abou that. I only have one regular move that works normally against a Pidgey. You got yourself an ice type move which is awesome!" Another Pidgey got past Emilia to attack the bug pokemon directly. Keo turned his attack to blast the bird pokemon back, but it had already knocked out the Weedle with a Gust attack. "Ah shoot! Stinger return."

"Useless," Emilia complained, putting herself between the flock of angry bird Pokemon and the weakling trainer. That Pidgey was still flying, so she had Keo fire another Ice Shard at it. Seven. Only three left in this group. "You've got this Keo." The little white Vulpix yipped as it took down yet another Pidgey. Eight. His Ice Shard attack was shredding through these flying pokemon. Another down. Nine. Just one more. "Almost through Keo!"

The final Pidgey looked around at all of its brothers Keo had already taken out and puffed up with anger. "Hehe, you seem a bit upset little bird." Emilia's taunt was enough to make the pokemon come right at her. Stupid bird. Keo fired an ice Shard right in its path, but the Pidgey barely slowed down. "Keo, Freeze-Dry!" The Vulpix fired a ball of white energy up at the bird, freezing it. The frozen Pidgey fell out of the air and hit Keo right on top of the head.

They'd done it. She and Keo had beaten a whole (part of a) flock of Pidgey! Emilia reached down to rub Keo's head where the frozen pokemon had hit him. Poor baby was probably going to have a headache for a bit. A pokeball flew in front of her to take the frozen Pidgey.

First he butt into her battle, and then he poaches her prize. Sure she didn't even want a weakling Pidgey, but it still annoyed her to no end. This kid annoyed her to no end. But she supposed that he needed to catch something like a weakling Pidgey, what with a Weedle as a partner. Fine, he could have it. He needed it more than she did anyway. Keo jumped up into Emilia's arms as his trainer gave one last pity-filled glare towards the Weedle boy before walking away.

Speakers from somewhere on the luxury yacht suddenly came to life.

"About time," Emilia grumbled. Dealing with weakling pokemon and trainers - trainer - had her in a decidedly bad mood. Hopefully she wouldn't have to see or deal with people like that once they arrived at the institute and her talent could be recognized. Since they would be arriving shortly she headed back towards the stairs to fetch her things.

"Alola miss." Great, another person she didn't want to talk to, was what Emilia thought as she turned to politely face the on who had spoken. "My name is Gabriel," and he was gorgeous, "and this is my partner Mimikyu." Okay sure. "I know he is scary but he won't do anything unless you aggravate him. Which island do you come from if you don't mind me asking?" Yeah okay. So gorgeous.

Wait had he asked her a question? "A-alola monsieur Gabriel," she said with a curtsy, "Alola Mimikyu." Emilia's eyes didn't even move towards the pokemon. "Keo's from Ula'ula Island, but I'm from Kalos. I have been to all of the islands on vacation though!"

Trey Asters
"Alright... so we'll be heading to the Island soon." He takes out both pokeballs as he looks out to sea. "We'll be there soon guys. A new start soon the road to becoming a strong trainer! Isn't that exciting?" The current track record so far wasn't that great but it wouldn't deter the young trainer from otherwise continuing his journey. For now he looks ahead at the front of the ship with a small wonder of what was to come. What would happen next? What sort of Pokemon would he add to his team? Just how strong could they become? He was asking himself those questions as the inevitable destination would rear it's head soon enough.

Trey remembers back to his father and learning about Pokemon battles. There was a lot to consider and while Trey wasn't good at handling all that information within himself, he was better suit for adapting to the situation. The battle with the flock of Pidgey was a good lesson in the importance of Pokemon types.
"I might need something like an Electric or Rock-type for the journey to come. There might be loads of flying-types rearing around the corner. Oh I'll need a water-type too! This is going to be fun."

From there he would look around to see all the other trainers and their Pokemon. One had a Wartortle that didn't seem to have it's luck with part of the flock of Pidgey and there was a guy with a Mimikyu talking to the rather rude [Author's note not Trey's opinion] girl he met earlier. Though he didn't seem to really mind the personality of the girl. Maybe it was just his naivety but he couldn't care less about that.
"Plenty of Pokemon on this ship. This is going to be something special I can tell."

Umeko Ohara

Bracing were the cool winds that churned the ocean waves into a soft white froth, and while some might deem them nippy, the girl who leaned on the ship’s guard-rail found it refreshing. This time of year the mainland was especially hot and sticky, so even as goose pimples speckled her arms in response to the breeze, she remained where she was, the sun’s rays enough to keep the chill at bay. The blue-haired girl had taken notice of the other students on the ship, but had yet to work up the nerve to introduce herself to any of them, and so was biding her time at the edge of the yacht. There seemed to be a range of ages amongst their group, and at least a few seemed to be around her age, so there was that at least. From first glances, they all seemed nice enough… but she first wanted time to settle herself- it wouldn’t look good if she was a jittery mess. A smile could be seen on the child’s round face, yet a volatile mixture of anxiety and excitement brewed within as she wrestled with her thoughts.

The child hadn’t thought that the hardest part of it all would have been leaving home- she'd thought the worst was over with once the application had been sent off. But packing her things, saying good-bye to her friends and classmates, and releasing herself from her parent’s nurturing, if not slightly overbearing embrace... it had been tougher than expected. In her short life they had been a constant presence, always there to offer some words of advice or a comforting embrace. It was something which she had perhaps taken for grant, and now their physical absence left a pang of sadness and guilt in the young girl’s chest. Even if they and their harsh words played a part in her decision to attend the school… they were still her family, and she loved them none the less. Clenching tighter to the small sphere in her hand, Umeko breathed deeply as she tried to ease her nerves. Back home, it had been easy enough to make friends with the kids in her neighbourhood, so there shouldn’t have been any reason that it would be any different this time around. At least, that was what she had told herself when she applied to the Institute, but now she couldn’t help but call that into question. It might be a bit scary, but I made a choice to do this. And if I get cold feet and back out now, well, who knows if I’ll ever be able to let go and leave home again, she contemplated quietly. It’s a bit intimidating at first, and we probably all won’t be friends right off the bat. But some of them should be alright, and even if there’s nothing else in common, at least we’re all in the same boat… literally. The chain of thought briefly lost, the girl’s solemn expression quickly melted away as she found herself chuckling at her unintentional joke, which earned her a curious glance from her partner.

“…Toy?” Yajiro questioned, its tone confused as it rotated slightly in its trainers direction from its position on the rail. Equal parts embarrassed and amused, the Vermillionite smiled sheepishly at the pokemon whilst re-composing herself. “Oh, sorry. It’s nothing Yaji, I’m being a bit silly is all. Just got butterflies in my stomach… it’s alright though.” Umeko explained. Realizing the reason for the girls' behaviour, the top Pokemon could only shake its head and appendages in disbelief. “Baaaaaaal.” it sighed in response whilst lazily tilting back and forth. They had yet to arrive at this island, the one which the human child had been so excited on going to, and yet now that they were heading there she was worrying over problems which did not exist. It made little sense to the clay creature, but then again, most of the humans’ actions lacked a clear rationale behind them in its mind. For now though, Yajiro figured that the best thing it could do was to try and divert its trainers’ attention elsewhere. Plopping off the rail and onto the deck, it prodded Umeko’s leg before gesturing to the ship’s bow, where many of the new trainers were milling about. “Yea, I guess we ought to go start meeting people, shouldn’t we? Many of us will be classmates soon, so we might as well be friendly with one another.” The girl mused aloud, straightening her posture whilst stepping back from the rail. Scanning herself, the student tried to fix the wrinkles in her olive shirt and tidy the ruthless mop of navy blue hair. Once the results were satisfactory, she looked to where her companion had been… only to find the wooden deck.

A surge of panic flooding through her, Umeko whipped her head about trying to spy the Baltoy, but it was nowhere to be seen around their section of the boat. “Yaji?” she called out, wondering whether the Pokemon was just teasing her, but when it failed to appear she knew her fears were confirmed. It had left without her- probably became impatient with her finicking and decided to explore on its own. A grumble of discontent went through her, unimpressed that her partner had gone ahead without telling her, but she pushed the feeling aside- they could deal with that later, once they found each other. Squashing down her discomfort the child walked quickly along the yacht to approach the benches where a handful of students where lounging. Initially she began to approach the girl and boy who were chatting alongside their pokemon, a white Vulpix and… a funny looking Pikachu? Yet the pair seemed deep in discussion, and it would be rude to interrupt them to ask such a silly question, so after a moment’s hesitation the girl continued along. Nearby were a couple of boys, one seeming younger than her and the other older. Both seemed preoccupied with staring attentively at their pokeballs, but hopefully they wouldn’t mind her bothering them. “Ah, excuse me? Have either of you seen a Baltoy by chance around here?” She asked the pair, glancing about to see if the deviant was hiding beneath the benches. Unbeknownst to her though, Yajiro had in fact gone the opposite direction, zooming along the starboard side triumphantly towards the bow of the vessel as it sought to catch a first glimpse at the island where their next grand adventure would begin.

Justin sighed, slipping the now shrunken Dive Ball in to the pocket of his swimming trunks. No point in putting his Wartortle through the humiliation of laying face down on the ship's deck for the next 30 minutes. Resting his arms on the railing, Justin would move so he could rest his head against his arms, looking down at the wooden deck of the ship. This was not how he thought his first battle with a wild Pokemon would go. Hell, this wasn't how he thought any of his first five or so battles would go. No one won every battle, but he thought for sure he had a good chance of winning the first.

It wasn't like he didn't know why he lost. He did. It wasn't because the 5 Pidgey attacked like they were linked mentally. It was because shitty rolls he was an inexperienced trainer. He didn't know much about how battles worked. He didn't give enough instruction. He didn't do enough. He didn't know enough. He didn't think far enough ahead to have prepared for something like that. He just wasn't good enough. Not yet at least. Looking up, Justin made the decision he thought he had made before leaving home. He was going to throw as much of himself as he could in to this trainer thing, like he did when he first began cooking. It had been difficult at first, but what in life wasn't? Don't you worry Napoleon, he thought to himself. Next time, we'll be ready.

Justin stood upright and turned to head away from the ship's railing, even making it a few steps before he was approached by a girl a few years younger than himself, asking both him and another male if they had seen a Baltoy. Justin would glance from the female to the other male and, if their gazes met, would offer a light shrug, before looking back to the girl. “Sorry, can't say I have. I kinda got caught up in the Pidgey War a few minutes ago. Lotta feathers. Lotta water. And a flying Wartortle.” He hated to admit it, but the sight of his Wartortle flying through the air off the side of the ship, looking back on it now, was pretty funny to him. It was like watching a wipe out, only better. “Buuut if you'd like, I can keep an eye open for one. Ships pretty big. Might be more than one Baltoy on board.” It was the most he could offer on such short notice.

The Pidgey made a straight line for the bread - and consequentially the boy as well. The sudden appearance of the gaseous orb, however, stopped it dead in its tracks. Noticing the sudden encounter, the young boy jolted back away from the bag - both to protect himself and issue his commands to the Gastly. He didn't even need to check his Pokedex - that particular bird was common in Kalos as well. And from his vague recollections, it was a Normal/Flying type. Every region seemed to have its own variation of bird.

"Rictus, that Pidgey's immune to Ghost type moves. We'll have to go with Sucker Punch!"

"Gassss!"

With a battle-squawk from its beak, the diminutive bird struck first. Though Ghost-types were immune to Normal-type moves such as Tackle, something like Wing Attack was still able to connect for some reason. Perhaps it was the energy that gathered in the small bird's wings - it quickly closed the gap and rammed straight into the Gastly. With a spectral girmace, Rictus endured the hit and prepared for another clash as the boy watched.

"Now!"

As the Pidgey dove right in for another Wing Attack, Rictus struck. With precision timing, the spectral combatant jinxed to the side and delivered a blow to the avian creature's blindside with a spectral fist formed from the essence that rolled off its spherical body. It cried out in pain as it attempted to put some distance between them before attempting a new move - Gust. The Pidgey's furious flapping whipped up a mighty wind. But Rictus was prepared once more - it weaved through the breeze and delivered a quick uppercut. The boy clenched his fist - it seemed like victory was well within his grasp.

And that's when everything went wrong - the Pidgey launched into a desperate counterattack with a Wing Attack that caught Rictus off-guard. And with both of the Pokémon worn down, it came down to one final clash. The first-year could only stand there and gawk as they launched into their favored moves once more - the Pidgey with its Wing Attack and Rictus with Sucker Punch. His eyes widened when the results became apparent - the gaseous miasma rolling off the ghostly creature waned as it fell to the floor. He ran over to his partner and scooped up its rotund body as the Pidgey made a beeline for the backpack and absconded with the baguette. The numbness and realization that he had failed as a Trainer hit him harder than his last taste of Kalos being spirited away. The child's eyes closed as he held the ghost's unconscious form close to his chest. He rubbed the tears from his eyes when he finally realized that someone was addressing him.

Rictus disappeared into his Poké Ball in a brief flash of red light as the boy slowly stood. He pocketed the now shrunken ball and sniffled slightly as he slowly began to recognize her as the girl who was around his age. It took a few moments, but he managed to recall what she was saying during the battle - he had been so focused that it simply didn't register the first time around.

"O-Oh, you were watching...I'm Alain Villenueve. Enchanté, Ophelia. The baguette would have been good yes..." It took Alain a second to recompose himself and not sulk about his defeat. His head hung low for but a moment before he brought his gaze back to her.

"Ah, we should be arriving at the island soon, no? I'm certainly curious about the opening ceremonies - or perhaps exams, yes? I'm all very new to this sort of educational system."

Gabriel Valerio
Hoodie.jpg

Gabriel pulled his hood up over his head so the sun wasn't as harsh on his eyes, just because he grew up in Alola where it was sunny all the time didn't mean that he liked it. Deciding that it would be best to not carry dead wait around he set his briefcase down so on his left was Mimikyu and on his right was his briefcase. Quickly resting both of his hands into his hoodie's pockets he responded to the new acquaintance, sounding accusing even if he didn't mean to.

"Ah so you took a vacation to a different region and stole a region specific pokemon. I myself am from Ula'Ula, my dad is the Kahuna there in fact and of all the choices you had... you certainly made an interesting one. There are far better pokemon to take from Alola than a Keokeo. "
Randomly he shot a look down to his Mimikyu who had moved a few inches forward and simply said
"Stop it."
Looking back to the girl he finally realized she was staring at him. Avoiding eye contact with the girl he decided to look over her shoulder and out to the sea, thinking on his home and all the things he would have to get used to in another region. The food, greetings, pokemon and probably much more. Eventually having enough of being stared at he looked the girl dead in the eyes.

"Can I help you with anything in particular or are you going to keep staring at me as if I'm not wearing clothes?"

Meanwhile Mimikyu had decided that the young trainer wasn't going to give him any sport so he moved his attention over to the small and innocent snow fox. Giving the snow fox a menacing glare Mimikyu shuffled along the floor a couple of inches forward. A small shadow slowly crept out from behind Mimikyu as it readied a strike against it's opponent before Gabriel shot him a glance. Quickly retracting it's shadow claw Mimikyu let it's head fall to one side, it's ears drooping to the floor, feigning innocence to everyone bar Gabriel.

Trey Asters
A young girl would appear before Trey and asked him if he had seen a Baltoy nearby. Turning around, he would think for a moment. "Mmm... no sorry I haven't. Want some help finding it though?" He would then also see the guy with the Wartortle. "My name's Trey. What are your names?" He gave an optimistic smile as he looks to the two.

Already within midst of the Island and he had met more than a few trainers already. Things were getting much more interesting for the young boy. Though he knew he didn't have much time so he had to go find the Baltoy as soon as possible. Hopefully they would be able to do this on time. Trey had never seen a real Baltoy before but he has read up on them in a book about ancient-type Pokemon.

For now he would pay more focus to finding the Baltoy. He thought about the ship and the possible rooms it could go. In any case he would ask the girl a question.

"Does your Baltoy like small, dark places?"

Ophelia

“E-exam? You don’t think there’ll be an exam in the orientation, do you? I haven’t prepared anything!”
Ophelia panicked, forgetting that she was the one who was supposed to be comforting Alain after Rictus lost the battle for his bread. The ferocity of the pidgeys from RBY island surprised her. Was that one pidgey particularly hungry? Rictus had clearly been the stronger pokemon in that fight. And yet it didn’t win. One last powerful wing attack from pidgey did the trick. It was something Ophelia might’ve pondered about…if she weren’t stewing over possibility that another exam might be coming her way. Surely her mother would have warned her if that were the case!

Poliwag let out a sound, that suspiciously resembled a sigh, before wriggling out of Ophelia’s arm.

“I thought the orientation would just be a tour around campus,”
Ophelia shook her head. “But I don’t know what the staff might be planning. Could be anything.” The ten year old hugged the large hat tighter to herself, perhaps for support. Though, in all honesty, she’d forgotten it was there. “What I do if there’s exam? I haven’t studied so I’m bound to do poorly…”

“Poli-li-li-li-li.Poliwag.” Poliwag stamped a foot, his fin tail pointed towards the island that was steadily drawing closer. On the bow of the yaht was a tan, figurine-like pokemon she’d never seen before. When did that get there? Still, its presence soothed Ophelia somewhat. The pokemon were just as eager as the students to see the island. Poliwag would be with her. No matter what challenges awaited, she wouldn’t be alone at least. And who knows? Maybe, just like the girl with the white vulpix, she’d be able to make a new friend to take tests with.

Either way, it’s too late to do anything about it now.

Suddenly taking Alain’s hands in hers, unknowingly dropping Emilia’s hat in the process, Ophelia’s gaze took on a determined expression. “Let’s do it. No matter what tests, opening ceremonies, or challenges RBY throws at us, let’s all pass together.” Nodding, probably more to herself than to the foreigner who clearly wasn’t from Kanto, Ophelia scurried below deck, calling to the boy as she did so. “Wait for me! I need to go get my things before we arrive. Then I’ll tell you about school. This is my first time going to a Pokemon School as well, but my brother’s told me all kinds of stories!” Fortunately, she didn’t pack too much. Mom told her it wouldn’t be necessary, since there would be things she could buy on the island. Besides, if she had forgot anything important, she could always borrow from her brother. Or her mom. Having family in RBY Institute did have its uses.

half an hour later
RBY Yaht docked on the shores of what appeared to be a tropical beach. Warm, golden sand. Swaying palm leaves. As the students disembarked, Ophelia could be seen happily chatting with Alain, telling him about the importance of doing homework.

“My brother forgot to do it one time,”
Ophelia whispered. “He had his pokeballs taken away for an entire week by a particularly mean professor. Called him a—,”

“Ahem,”

The sound caused Ophelia to look forward. Standing at the center of the beach was a pink bipedal pokemon carrying large sign that said ‘First Years – Come Hither’ in one hand and a clipboard in the other. A Slowking. Ophelia gawked. Surely it couldn’t have been Slowking that made that sound. However, the intelligent pink creature opened its mouth, proving Ophelia’s logic wrong.

“Welcome, Students and Pokemon to RBY Island. I hope you’ve all had a safe journey.”

250px-199Slowking.png

“My name is Professor Slowking.”

The voice was mellow, almost lazy as the talking pokemon’s gaze glided to each one of the students, its expression peaceful. Not just a pokemon. A professor. Ophelia was at a loss for words. One would think her brother would inform her about having a pokemon as a professor. Oh, wait. He had, Ophelia recalled sheepishly. She just thought he had been trying to trick her again.

“Professor Yew and I will be your guide for this year’s Orientation.”
Hearing another name, Ophelia’s eyes glanced over to a pretty blonde woman who was currently speaking to the Captain. She couldn’t hear the words being said, though they seemed to be discussing something important. Her eyes were drawn back to the talking pokemon—er, Professor—as it continued to speak. “The purpose of this event is to help you get settled into RBY Institute before classes actually begin. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you have them. That’s where the process of learning starts. Hopefully by the end of the orientation, you'll have a better understanding of what RBY Institute is about and what's expected of you as students” Yawning, Professor Slowking released the sign post and folded its free arm behind its back. Rather than falling, the signpost floated beside it. “Now please gather around and say your name so I can check it off my list. Watch out for any krabby that may be burrowed in the sand. It is currently krabby mating season so there’s more of them on this beach than usual. If you need any assistance carrying your things, our crew of machoke and machamp will be happy to help.”

“Machoke. Machoke.”

“Machaaaaamp.”

Nearby, a group of machoke and machamp flexed their muscles, looking quite eager to show off their strength. Ophelia giggled, handing one of the machoke her small suitcase, before hurry over where a semi-circle of students was slowly thickening around Professor Slowking. She winced when she felt a pinch at her ankles, her eyes watering slightly.

"Ophelia Magnolia here."
She looked back. "Watch out Alain. This is trickier than it looks."

Poliwag rolled his eyes and hopped to follow his trainer.

Character Event Time!

Pokemon battles aren’t the only thing in this rp (though it’s pretty big). Occasionally I will throw in character events that depend on your character’s personal die (Remember, unless adjusted, every individual character's personal die starts with a d6). If you roll a 1 or a 2, your character felt a bit of a pinch from a krabby and lose 0.2 hp. Higher than that and your character was careful enough (or creative enough) to avoid it =) We will continue once everyone has been able to post at least once.

Gray

Gray didn't own many things, which made travelling fairly easy. He only packed the essentials, bringing along a book or two to keep him company. Although, the suspiciously light weight of the bag strapped to his shoulders made him question some of his decisions. Did he underpack? Even V was heavier than his luggage.

On his way back to the deck, Gray noticed a red-haired girl quickly moving below. In the few moments of observation before losing sight of her, she looked to be around his age. That seemed to be the case for most of the students, but there were a few that appeared to be a couple of years older, to his surprise. Like some of the others that rushed into battle against the native birds, she came across as the excitable type.

Stepping back into the sunlight, a hand moved to brush a dark strand of hair behind his ear, as he was exposed to the salty breeze once again. Only a few minutes away from their destination, his five-year stay at this school would soon begin. The amount of time that he'd be living in this region was a bit hard to take in, but it wasn't unwelcome.

His walk across the ship's surface was cut short as a small object blocked his path, shifting a bit from the wind as the boy nudged it with his sneakers. Bending down, Gray raised an eyebrow as he took the hat into his hand. Standing straight, he felt an odd sense of familiarity as he inspected its wide brim, turning it over lightly in his hands. He was pretty sure that he had seen the item before, which meant that it belonged to one of the nearby passengers. After a brief scan of the surrounding students, he was able to recall the moment he spotted it.

While his mind had been preoccupied with thoughts that came from the sight of the Vaporeon from earlier, he remembered that its new trainer was the owner. Watching as the blue-haired girl chatted with a hooded man that he hadn't noticed earlier, Gray looked back to the hat in his hand. 'What should I do?' His first thought was to return the item to the person it belonged to. It was the natural thing to do, and he still felt bad about hoping that her catching attempt failed. Although, she was in the middle of a conversation. He didn't want to be rude and interrupt. However, if he decided to hold onto it until later, he might get accused of being a thief, leading to a misunderstanding. He couldn't just leave it sitting on the floor either.

Scratching his head while trying to decide how to give someone a hat, Gray had never been more aware of his lack of social skills. It was an unfortunate side-effect of having minimal opportunities to interact with anyone outside of his family. That guilt of his certainly wasn't helping things.

A decision would eventually be made for him when V began to push forward, the paws pressing against the hoodie serving as a sign for his partner to get moving. If he wasn't already getting his point across, the Normal-type stretched his ears out like a set of arrows, both pointing in the direction of the young girl. Knowing when to take a hint, Gray began to make his approach.

"Excuse me." Hand outstretched, Gray offered the hat to the Vulpix owner, choosing to speak up as her conversation partner waited for an answer to his question. "This belongs to you, right?" His gaze shifted to the other Pokémon at his feet for a moment, taking notice of a familiar sheet-covered ghost. There seemed to be a few Alolan species onboard.

After handing off the lost item, Gray raised a hand in farewell, looking to the pair before leaving just as soon as he came. "Sorry to bother." His movements were just as calm as the rest of his actions, but the boy was definitely hoping to move away as soon as possible. He didn't want to intrude more than he already had.

Putting the business with the hat aside, Gray focused on the sight of approaching land as he walked toward the bow of the ship. He wondered if he was supposed to feel nervous or excited at a time like this. Truthfully, there weren't any strong emotions building inside of him as he stared into the distance, lacking the passion that the other students likely had. Still, he did enjoy the view that was offered to him. The same went for V, poking out his head to feel the wind brush against his fur.

As the two watched the nearing figure of their new home, Gray noticed that they had company. Rather than another human, their fellow sightseer was revealed to be a Pokémon, the tan creature resembling a top. 'That's Baltoy, right?' V also took a moment to acknowledge it, offering a smile with inquisitive eyes. Curling his lips to do the same, Gray gave a small wave before turning his attention back to the island.

It didn't take long for V to emerge from the depths of his trainer's hoodie after the yacht landed, jumping to the golden surface at their feet. The Eevee made a few short hops as its paws adjusted to the warm sand, eyes beginning to shine as it took in the new area. V's joy was made clear as he circled Gray's legs, wanting the boy to share in the experience. The action earned a cheerful expression, but he made sure to remind his furry friend to be aware of his surroundings. "Careful, V. There's a lot of Krabby around." The threat of getting pinched aside, the tropical setting was really reminiscent of Alola. The arrival of Pokémon from said region only added to the resemblance.

While he was examining the beach, the sound of someone clearing their throat grabbed his attention. When he looked to the direction of the noise, he had been expecting a faculty member of the school to greet them. He wasn't wrong, exactly, but the crowned Psychic Pokémon definitely wasn't what came to mind. Gray fought the urge to pinch himself when the Slowking began speaking, thinking that he was just having a strange dream. Not only was a Pokémon talking, but it was also a professor. That meant it had a degree. There wasn't a fitting expression that could match the disbelief he felt at that moment, leaving his face simply blank.

While he could see how Slowking's high intelligence and psychic abilities could help it learn human speech, it would take a while for him to process this. During that time, the first student would introduce herself. He recognized Ophelia as the girl that went below deck earlier, but he hadn't gotten a good look at the Poliwag that accompanied her.

When the redhead was finished, Gray decided to step forward, V climbing to his shoulders as he approached the forming semi-circle. "I'm Gray...Luster. Nice to meet you." There was a small pause before the boy announced his surname. While he had needed some time to get used to Professor Slowking, introducing himself also needed a bit of preparation. His family was widely known, but he still hoped that they were unheard of here. If possible, he would've limited the greeting to his first name alone.

Emilia Emory
"Cl-clo-clothes... n-no clo-" Emilia's face turned a bright shade of red, first out of embarrassment at the older boy's crass words, but that embarrassment was quickly burned away and replaced by anger. Who was this boy to speak as if he knew anything! Fine then pretty boy, she'd make sure to teach him a lesson later. No one gets away with speaking that way to her! "Let me remind you. Boy. You approached me. And if you continue to speak to me as if you know anything about me, I don't think you'll have a very pleasant time at this academy."

Keo stared intently at the odd Pikachu before it. He had seen a lot of Pikachu since Emi's friends liked them, but this one was a bit different. It didn't smell like those Pikachu he had smelled before, in fact it didn't smell like much of anything at all. But it certainly looked like a Pikachu, so it must be a Pikachu. He'd been staring at this Pikachu for a while now, and it hadn't blinked. Was this a game? Keo loved games! The little fox returned the other pokemon's gaze. He lasted all of a few seconds before the Pikachu tilted its head to the side, and in copying it Keo simply fell over.

"Keo, come."

The Vulpix yipped a goodbye to its new friend before running back to its master. Emilia turned angrily to storm away from the rude gorgeous boy, but found her path blocked by a young man holding in his hands her hat.

"Excuse me. This belongs to you, right?"

She grabbed her hat from him and walked away. Finally, some good service aboard this ship.

Post Arrival
Emilia, returned hat again doing its duty of shielding her from the irritating sunlight, pushed her suitcase down the ramp from the ship. If not for it having wheels there would have been no way she could have possibly moved it. The zippers and seams looked as if they might give out at any moment. One thing was for certain, the girl had not underpacked for her stay. It should have come as no surprise to her when upon contact with the beach sand the suitcase immediately stopped rolling, but that didn't stop her from being annoyed about it. Stupid sand, stupid suitcase, stupid gorgeous Gabriel, stupid Krabby.

"Keo Freeze-Dry."

The pokemon that had been thinking to pinch her exposed ankle was frozen before it got a chance. Emilia picked up the Krabcicle and threw it far into the ocean. If she'd thrown like that before she would have been able to reach the Vaporeon for sure. Then again she hadn't been annoyed while catching the Vaporeon. Keo yipped a goodbye to its flying Krabby friend. *plonk* It'd probably be fine. The water would thaw it out, probably.

"Attendant pokemon, take my things to my room," Emilia began bossing around the helper pokemon before anyone even told her that was what they were there for. She just assumed they were there for her convenience, and in this particular case she happened to be correct. The fighting pokemon effortlessly lifted her suitcase. "And be careful with it, there are valuables in there!" It wasn't difficult to imagine that the pokemon looked relieved to be leaving the presence of this unpleasant little girl.

Joining her... peers - these people, really? - around the talking pink blob, Emilia waited until someone had stopped talking. "Emilia Emory, present, sir." She curtsied politely to the professor. That the professor was also a pokemon had caught her off guard, but she'd heard of the intelligence of Slowking before. It crossed her mind that she might be able to catch the Slowking. If her professor was a pokemon, and if she was that pokemon's master, couldn't she then force him to give her the top score in his class without actually doing any of the work? Emilia shook such thoughts from her mind. No shortcuts. She needed to actually put in the work to be the best. It definitely had nothing to do with her considering Slowking ugly.
