Here's the OOC for questions, talking, lurking, coming up with a better title and whatever else you'd like to do here

First of all,are there any rules for skipping to a higher level range (that I may have missed) or do we have to calculate each level after the first manually? (The leveling system seems like it really shafts Pokemon that evolve by leveling,to be honest.)

Second of all,I assume a lore page/explanation is also forthcoming? I have a character already in mind so I want to clarify: if I chose to play an Ultra Beast (with your permission) would they have come from Ultra Space or just be native to your world?

That was more my fault to be honest. There aren't any rules since you were intended to choose a baby pokemon and work up from level 1, but I didn't know if everyone would reach the point that they'd would like to be at before this died XP. I'll add a rule to help with this.

Add your first major skill and minor skills. Take the level that you started at, multiply it by 3 and pointbuy into your stats from the result, making sure that your highest stat isn't more than 20 above your lowest stat. Then after dividing your level by 1.1 and rounding down, allocate between your stats and skills. Finally, add 5 to all its stats for each stage it already evolved through.

ex.
If a pokemon started at level 30, you would pointbuy 90 points to each stat. Then you can decide between 27 points to add to your stats and your skills.

What do you think about this? This was made on the fly, so lmk if it can be made or streamlined better.

As for Ultra Beasts coming from ultra space, they'd probably act similar to humans being brought into the world. I'm not really worried about how pokemon like ultras or paradoxes came into the world, so you can treat them as natives or outsiders.

I'm not a big maths person so I don't see a problem with it really, should work fine for the structure of the campaign.

Do you plan on using the TM and status move rules? I think the latter in particular could use a bit of ironing out if we plan to.

Nellancholy Nellancholy

Yeah, the effects look like they could be fun. I think if we let players trade two points from the 1.1 result for a tier of a status move it should work out.

With that said,I will note that skills (unlike combat stats) are meant to be fairly low, with a roll of 2d6+skill and 7 being the minimum for a success and 13 for a complete success.

They'll get far out of hand if they can be bought with the same points as combat stats.

We'll need to improvise on the fly depending on the level range, but spitballing right now:

Nominate three Major Skills at character creation if starting at level 10 or higher and give them +2.

Every level thereafter that ends with 5,add 1 point to any 3 Minor Skills. Every 10 levels add 2 points to all 3 Major Skills.

Of course if we end up starting at level 5 or something,we should probably just follow the rules in the book.

Good to have you all on board!

Everyone should be able to start making characters now. I'll be working to make everything more legible and easier to read through, but all the essentials should be there. Feel free to skim through it and find what your characters would need!

Sorry for not answering earlier XP, I like these suggestions, I'll work them into the rule as well.

Like I said,we should probably decide this only once we have a consensus on starting level. I personally think a low level like 5 is okay to start.

download the template at least, I do have real DND dice so I'm going to use that!

BananaMuffin BananaMuffin with that said,do you plan on us putting up our initial CS as text in the thread,or using one of the fillables?
Either works fine, I didn't really think the fillables through though cause I realize now that the fillables can't be seen in full without downloading or using the gdoc code. If you guys would like, you can DM them straight to me instead of putting them in the CS page.

so does ability work in regards of the Pokemon ability or does it mean something else? personally I found a site that will let me edit them with images and such so I'm find on that part.

The character creation rules describe how to get your Pokemon's ability. They generally resemble the ones in the video games, but not fully.

yeah but I don't really get it and the only ones I get is the legendaries, so I was hoping the G Master could clear it up.

I don't see any of the stated Ultra Beast ability also.....or am just bilnd.

This spreadsheet exists in the .zip file that the game comes with (but which our GM may have had trouble providing to us). On this sheet,Nihilego is in column AD ("Pokemon that have Ability D") and therefore uses the D abilities for both of its types (Rock and Poison) over at the Player's Guide PDF (which has been provided to us). The problem is that the character creation rules reference an Excel sheet .xlsx provided in the .zip, but you can't directly share an Excel sheet here on RP Nation.

Cross-referencing these two documents,I am able to get my abilities and capabilities for Nihilego.

personally I think they should have a personal unique ability because their ability is Beast boost which no other Pokemon get but the ultra beasts which no other Pokemon get but the ultra beasts but alright

I had no idea you could embed it through googlesheets :0

I put the sheet in the CS page, let me know if you guys see it

Paradox mons have a unique ability, so it's kind of weird the author didn't do the same for them.

Nellancholy Nellancholy Since you're the only person so far with an Ultra Beast, would you prefer Beast Boost or the Default type abilities?

another small question, if a Pokemon happens to have a type from previous Evolution but changes upon evolution, do they still keep their previous ability type?
