The year is AUC 2693, Ab Urbe Condita, it’s been 2693 years since the founding of Rome.
Or, according to a much less popular calendar proposed by an Eastern religion called Christianity, it’s AD 1940.
The West Roman Empire remain one of the strongest most prosperous country in the world even after the Fall of Constantinople. The phrase “Roma Invicta” hold true even after 2 millennia.
The steam powered contraption developed by Hero of Alexandria (AD 10~70) had caught the interest of the Roman Empire, it was thoroughly researched and developed upon, leading to industrial revolution in Rome.
Sejanus never comes to power thus the Praetorian Guards remains loyal to the security of the throne. The Great Fire of Rome never happened and Nero never had to devalue the currency causing inflation.
Germanicus had successfully conquered Germania, with the region developed and assimilated into the Empire, he was not poisoned, and remained widely popular as an ideal Roman. His virtuous characters and dashing physique and military reputation led him to become co-Emperor with Drusus, the son of Emperor Tiberius, the joint rule was established between the two Emperor equal in ambition and promises, and Caligula and Claudius never became the successor to the throne as the role of Emperors became more stable, better leader can be selected and prepared ahead of time, making sure that Rome can be guided by the best. With the currency stable and Praetorian kept at base, 3rd century crisis was completely avoided.
Because of the early established joint rules allows for better governance over wide reaching territories, and with the strengthen resources and manpower, Roman Empire can free it’s hand in expanding eastwards, Emperor Trajan’s conquest of Parthia did not halt in it’s track and Parthia was toppled, allowing the Empire better access to Eastern trade through the wealth of Mesopotamia, bringing in exotic goods from Asia, spices, philosophies, and the eventually the products of largest impact, gunpowder.
And thus history continues, now, a World War is brewing over the soil of Europe….
