Kiv Turnuroth
Dragonborn eldritch knight

Kiv grew up in a family with a proud martial tradition. Since a young age he was trained in the ways of war, at least when he wasn’t busy sneaking off to the nearest school of arcana to watch the wizards practice. His father scoffed at the practice of magic, favoring the weight of cold steel in his hands to a slender wand, but Kiv couldn’t get enough of it. He was constantly sneaking books about magic into his room to read and silently whispering spells during weapons training.

One day, while quietly watching the arcana students practice, he was spotted by an instructor whom Kiv had never met before, but knew him by name. He invited Kiv to join them on the grounds and try out his magical talent. Kiv was thrilled, and spent the better part of the day waving a wand about ineffectually and in rapt attention through lectures. He was so enthralled that he lost track of time, and when he didn’t show up to weapons training, his parents went looking for him. Tipped off by one of Kiv’s siblings, they found him at the arcana school.

His father was furious, shouting at Kiv and the teacher who invited him to stay, apparently someone with whom his father had clashed in the past. They walked home in silence, but once there his mother pulled him aside, wiped away his tears and said she would speak with his father. Kiv woke up late the next morning, surprised his father hadn’t woken him up extra early for their morning sessions as punishment. Instead he found his mother had packed a bag for him, and with a tight hug she sent him off to the school of arcana to follow his passion.

He was finally living his dream, practicing to become a wizard. The training was hard, and it look a long time before he could even cast the simplest spell. Too long, in fact. He labored for years and failed to advance in his abilities. Kiv had always been stubborn and straight forward, unable to master the subtlety and grace required for magic. Finally, the teacher who had asked him to join them all those years ago, asked him to leave. There was no place for him at the school.

Kiv returned home, dreading how he would be received. His mother welcomed him with open arms, and surprisingly his father did as well. He offered to bring him back to training immediately and find his true calling. But Kiv felt lost. He couldn’t stay. He gathered some supplies, “borrowed” some weapons from his father, and decided to wander until he found what he felt was his place in the world.

Eventually, he stumbled upon the town of Daggerford, working for an odd little man named The Snail ...
