Character Sheet: Ezra Oreth

Backstory:

The days never got easier, not after Mom and Dad passed, Helm just helps carry the burden. In his youth, Ezra lived in Waterdeep with his family, he didn't know much about their line of work but he did know that something wasn't quite right about it. He never did find out much about their jobs though, because when he was 14 he came home to find them murdered. He wasn't sure how to react, after all, a kid isn't trained for the day when they come home to find nothing for them there. So he ran, gods did he run, he went through the streets for hours, turning each and every corner, losing himself into depths of the city he had never been to. He remembered the rain, the fear, the loneliness, and the hatred for everything that had led to their deaths. When he finally looked up and came to his senses, he found himself in front of a temple with the sun setting behind it. This place was the only shelter he could find for the night, lest he get sick from the rain. He went inside and met an elderly man, Brother Ascolda, an old gnome, who in his best days fought for the Glory of Helm. That night Ezra learned of Helm, God of Protection and Courage, The Watcher, and Defender of Defenders. Ezra did not leave that temple, not for eight years, and in those eight years, he trained to be a protector of the innocent, herald of victory and strength, as well as a brother to all those who stand against evil. He purged hatred from his body, he used the fire to become stronger, he swore to never again let the lifestyle his parents got caught up in to kill another.

Those years were no cake walk though, a rude half-orc, Brother Donahugh told him that he would never truly be fit to fight for the glory of Helm, that running from his parents was enough of a reason to deny him a home within the brotherhood. Ezra was bothered by this at first but took it as a challenge, to prove himself as the best of the recruits and maybe one day, the best of the Paladins. He was trained to fight with weapons and armor, learning the skills he would need as a defender. When not training, he would study his favorite books to read involved relics of Helm speaking about how they had been lost throughout the ages, not many of the names stuck with him but the books said that A gauntlet with an eye in the center would mark any item of Helm’s.
The days never got easier, Ezra just gets more driven, more powerful, and more hopeful. Ezra left the Temple on the day of his Twenty-second birthday, it was his gift to the world, to leave Waterdeep and go wherever he was needed. He hugged Brother Ascolda and received a book of prayer from the old man and a copy of the book of Nursery Rhymes that he read to younger recruits. He made his way in the world, sometimes it would be thanks to the help of a farmer who would also be a follower of Helm, sometimes it'd be thanks to the homeliness of a small village. Ezra was a friend to the people just as much as their defender, Brother Ascolda taught him the importance of loving all who showed kindness and forgiving those who did not. Not every day was easy though, just like Brother Donahugh at the temple, there were people who wanted to see Ezra fail. Some days he would go entirely without eating, others he would be run out of town for supporting a “God of violence”. He felt bad for these people who were never educated on the gods, to only have a vague sense of those who control this world, it sounded wrong. Ezra loved helping people, yes that was true, but he also loved the thought of passing on and becoming one of Helm’s elite in the afterlife, a warrior staunchly defending with his lord until the end of time, to make sure that all of the other spirits could have their eternal peace.

Character Sheet:

Please mark your profs -- like armor and weapons.

Also suggest having somewhere on the sheet to track your divine sense uses along with the current amount of LoH you still have along with the total amount available.

I also suggest filling in the age/height/weight etc. box on the last page to give some idea of what Ezra looks like.

Character Backstory:

You cover the basics at least, but I think you could work on your formatting so it's not just a wall of text. Does Ezra have any real goal besides wandering? Has anyone avoided him or abused his care? How did he handle that? It's fine to be dedicated, but at the same time risks the character feeling a bit flat. Did Ezra ever have anyone at the temple he didn't get along with? Or that he did and wishes someday he could see? Perhaps a fellow acolyte who left before him -- something to look forward to along his pilgrimage to where ever?

Please make your edits to your sheet and the original post -- tag me ( Abrahms Abrahms ) in the Discord when ready for another look over or have questions.
