Alaer Eytheris was born deep in the Ardeep Forest, where his clan was in charge of preserving its wildlife and protecting the secrets of its ruins. As a child, Alaer already felt the forest was confining. Although he enjoyed leaning the bow and tracking prey in the wild, Alaer always felt himself looking beyond the trees. He wanted more and was determined to leave no matter what his clan thought his responsibities were. When he came of age, he decided that there was no way he would be able to stay in the forest any longer and left despite the protests of his father and those of his clan. The young wood elf traveled west, hunting and foraging as he went, until he reached the grand city of Waterdeep. Immediately he was intrigued by how different this lively city was compared to the quiet of the forest. He realized quickly that his skills in the wild wouldn't help him here and to survive in this new environment, he would need coin. Alaer was accepted into the ranks of the City Watch, and soon became distinguished for his sharp eye for detail and skill with a rapier.
As Alaer rose in the hierarchy of the City Watch, he was granted the position of investigator and was taken under the wing of one of the more respected investigators. His talents in perception lended naturally to his new position. Alaer became intimately acquainted with the underbelly of Waterdeep, and over time, learned how to think and fight like one of its criminals. He became known as hound, following every trail until it lead to an arrest. As time went on, the dark side of Waterdeep began to weigh on Alaer's high spirits. Alaer reached a tipping point when he was invesigating incidents of racketeering in some of the poorer neighborhoods.
Naturally, Alaer followed the trail and discovered some of the watch was extorting the poorer folk of the city for their coin. When he confonted the corrupt individuals, they attacked him forcing Alaer fight back and ultimately kill them. Instead of the praise he expected, Alaer was met with contempt for rooting out the corruption. Those of the City Watch accused him of turning against his own brothers and treated him like a pariah. The people he saved avoided him instead of thanking him for fear they might be singled out and mistreated by the watch. As the city started to become more suffocting than the forest, Alaer decided he's had enough and decided to leave for good. His mentor urged him to stay arguing how there's still so much good he can do in Waterdeep. Alaer left anyways, traveling sout to become an adventurer instead.

His time working as an investigator for the City Watch of Waterdeep has left a deep-rooted cynicism that leaves him suspicious of the intentions of everyone he meets. However, this won't stop Alaer from helping someone from trouble if they cross his path. He just won't go out of his way to look for those in need.
