Your character does find a piece of wood sturdy enough to use as a club, x6 tattered clothes, and x3 empty bottles if he decides to scavenge The Tower.

THE BATTLE OF THE TOWER


On May 6th, 2030, Sanctuary Forces marched upon a settlement in Legion called "The Tower." The Sanctuary soldiers sought to capture survivors from the tower to coerce into fighting in the Cage. Reason for this attack was that, a week prior to the battle, a group called The Largos, a Latino group of thirty heavily-armed wanderers, had attacked and overrun a Sanctuary outpost in central Legion, slaughtering six Sanctuary soldiers. Later that night, eighty Sanctuary soldiers struck the wanderers as they were looting the outpost, killing nineteen of them and taking others prisoner. They soon gained intel that the Tower was allied with the Largos, and saw it as a legitimate cassus belli. One hundred-forty Sanctuary soldiers, nearly the entire Sanctuary Army, invaded the Tower a week after the Largos-Sanctuary conflict, and for three hours, besieged the Tower as the sixty settlers inside, fifty of which were armed men and women, held out with nail weaponry, slingshots, and melee weapons if the Sanctuary soldiers got too close, such as the initial charge in which four Sanctuary soldiers were killed. After three hours, they managed to overrun the Tower defenses with periodic raids and heavy gunfire, and they charged the Tower. After twenty more minutes of combat within the Tower, forty-one Tower settlers had been killed or wounded, the rest taken prisoner. The Sanctuary soldiers then vacated the Tower, with seven less men than they had came with, and utilized a grenade launcher to blow off a considerable amount of the Tower.

The outpost fight, Latino group, and their alliance with The Tower is accepted, but not the near maximum number of soldiers for the Sanctuary army, nor the three hour siege. That would be three hours after sunset, which is night when the city is owned by the dead and the special infected hunters. Too noisy too.


I won't spoil much, but taking The Tower was a stealth operation by an unknown number. And it's safe to guess that the damage to the tower was caused by explosions when the vest bombs went off when the prisoners panicked. The sixty settlers is okay, as for the number of prisoners taken, it's unknown.
