The Suwa Girls Academy is a female senior secondary school originating from Suwa city, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1889 during the era of Meiji Restoration, in a time that Japan was still deeply influenced by Confucius ideology and the idea of getting women educated was frowned upon. The founding of the girls academy in Nagano was supported by numerous education reformists, foreign missionaries and political leaders alike, such as Prime Minister Ito Hirobumi and Minister of the Army Oyama Iwao, the motto of the school was chosen by Mori Arinori, the first Minister of Education in Japan. The building of the school resembles a lot of the architecture from 19th century Europe style, complete with a small church, although the school itself had always been non-religious, facilities such as a gymnasium and library also present, with several dormitories for staff and boarding pupils.

When the school was first founded, the only subjects it offered were Home Economics, English, Japanese Literature and Science. The field gradually expanded over the years, but Senshado was still a relatively new addition to the extra-curricular activities, with the club founded in 2007.

Overall the school atmosphere is relaxed. There are school uniforms, but students are free to dress in a mixture of civilian clothes with their uniform, however the clothes chosen should be reasonable and proper. The school had a hensachi (偏差值, deviation value) of 62 in the Japanese education system, around one standard deviation above the mean, for students who are aspiring to seek entrance to the best universities in Japan, going for recommendation or AO admission by competing and achieving fame in sport teams were a popular option, with baseball, football (soccer), karate, archery (Kyudo) and swordsmanship (Kendo) being the top choices amongst students. Due to budgetary constraints, the Tankery club had lacked resources and personnel to compete with other larger schools, and for years the club had operated like girl scouts(with tanks), with participation rewards being the best their club could hope for. It was after Oorai Girls Academy’s dark horse performance in the 63rd national tournament that the board of trustees in Suwa Girls Academy decided to direct more resources to the Tankery club, with a large amount of scholarships put out to attract students to join the team.

Personality: Hendrika is a pragmatist almost down to her core. She listen to good arguments, equally, from everyone, even if given by a seven year old, and she won’t be offended or even surprised. She is known to be thrifty in personal life, she always demand to split the bill in gathering and almost never leave tips—a virtue which is fine in Japan but not so welcome in countries like US where business don’t pay enough for their employee for basic expenses. But at the meantime she also donates part of her salary every months to non-profit groups like MSF and UNHCR.

In first impression, stoic would be the word that comes to mind describing “The Major” van der Hagen. When the Dutchwoman has set her mind to something, it’s going to happen. It’s how her countryman got half the country drained and made into a tiny but sprawling nation. She is serious and no-nonsense, she doesn’t beat around the bush, don’t expect any “I can see that you have worked very hard and I know the effort you’ve put into it etc etc...” none of that, she’ll go straight to the point and make sure there’s no misunderstanding, “I’ve seen what you did, and it’s awful.”

Bio: Towering at 188cm height, Hendrika like many of her fellow Dutch is a tall woman, yet she doesn’t appear lanky, in fact she is quite voluptuous with her curvy full figure. She was born in the small village of Koarnjum, province of Friesland, to a Dutch father and a French mother, with her paternal family tree connects her to the legendary admiral Michiel de Ruyter. Her grand father was an ace pilot in the RAF No. 332 Squadron (a British unit consists of purely Dutch personnel), a flying officer who had a kill count of 8, including 3 V-1 rockets.

Hendrika was a Major in the Royal Netherlands Army (Koninklijke Landmacht), being a graduate from the Koninklijke Militaire Academie, she held command of a Combined Arms Battalion (CAB), which included 2 tank companies with 14 Leopard 2A6 each, with an addition of a mechanised infantry company as support. Under Hendrika’s command, the Dutch CAB had engaged in fighting on Afghanistan front, she was respected by soldiers for her fair and square personality and refusal to turn away from risky and bold undertakings, despite her usually cautious nature. Hendrika tend to stay with her troops a lot, eating same rations and share drinks and sing drinking songs together, she was good at seizing opportunity when her opponents exposed brief moment of weakness or could be taken by surprise even when she is out-gunned and out-numbered, the ISAF headquarters in Kabul sometimes had no idea where her unit is at because of her tendency of showing up in times and places where she is least expected. Hendrika also likes to personally carry out reconnaissance, on her bicycle, before operation would begin with tanks rolling. Her military career was cut short however, when an IED exploded directly under her Leopard 2A6, resulting in she losing her right eye. She was thus given a medical discharge from the Royal Netherlands Army, after that she was hired by the Japanese Sensha-do Federation to be their instructor, a few years before she was assigned to Suwa.
