As vincent lifted his head he wiped a few beads of sweat off of his brow as maria, claire, and the kids pulled into the driveway in the large black van. They had spent the past four hours in town, eating at a restaurant then catching that movie they were wanting to see. at first it was just a shopping trip but after vincent had met with their "unexpected guest" he made a call to tell them to stay out a bit more. he patted the last layer of dirt over the cultists shallow grave before he walked back tot he barn to drop off the shovel and began heading to the smaller barn to put it away managing to make it to the driveway just as the others were getting out of the car. maria was quick to rush to her husbands side giving him his food and seeming to dote on him a bit more than usual, despite her whispered and hushed tone it was bound to raise some questions so vincent waved her off simply saying ill tell you more soon. before turning his attention to the kids. "i hope you enjoyed your break because we got loads of work to do. that storm yesterday tore up some of the silo's roof, we need someone to patch that, we got a break in the fence line to the east which we need to repair before any of the horses or cattle get out, someone left the damned chicken coop open and a coyote got in there last night so there is a mess in there that needs cleaning, John you and aria are gonna come with me to check some footage out. i need to show you guys something." his tone was stern but not at all irritated or upset. claire just arched an eyebrow at him and shifted her gaze back and fourth between the two oldest of the kids. "then i guess ill get started on dinner, were having pork chops, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and hopefully some sangria assuming its done now, has anyone seen joel?" she asked earning a negative head shake from vincent. "oh well im sure the egghead just got caught up on some calculations he'll be back whenever" she said before walking off into the house with arms full of groceries, as per usual maria was quick to offer to help and a give the kids a you better grab a bag look to which most would likely do so as they probably didnt want to hear her complaining all through dinner again.

Johnathan had dropped off his four bags inside and immediately made a beeline for his room in the over sized red house. once there he picked up his cigarettes and noticed Vincent walking towards the tool shed. guess thats where im meeting him he said causally as he made his way down stairs pulling his smoke from the pack but not daring to put it to his lips until after he stepped out of the house lest Claire and Maria descend upon him like a pair of furies. once outside his eyes would glow for a fraction of a second as his thumb let a tiny pillar of flame out to light the smoke the moment it touched his lips, immediately he could feel the smoke entering him and rather than getting the dry uncomfortable feeling most associated with smoke he felt instantly invigorated, like he had taken a breath of fresh mountain air. "aria hurry the hell up or im gonna leave you." he shouted while the back door was still open but he didn't bother to actually wait literally uttering his words mid stride on his way to the tool shed. while he was fond of his siblings he was not about to mince words, sugar coat, or lie to them to make them feel better, some saw that as him being an asshole and maybe they were right. he just found it exceedingly hard to care how anyone else may feel about him or his words, he was far too busy making sure he didnt accidentally start a wildfire or literally explode. fortunately that had gotten alot easier and many would note he was alot more mellow than he was last year, at least as lng as he had his cigarettes...

As vincent entered the toolshed he went to the back wall and grabbed a hold of the rope which was connected to the bell. rather than pull the rope he grabbed the end that dragged the floor and moved the hay and dirt out of the way until he saw floorboards, he pressed in a knot in the wood of the floorboard which easily fell into the hollow spot between the floor and the foundation. after wards he stuffed his finger in the knothole and hooked the board pulling it up and revealing a small metal handle about three inches below it. he tied the rope around the handle and waited for the two eldest to approach sighing as he looked at the handle. Meanwhile maria began to address the list of chores vincent had mentioned. "okay pick your chores kids, you can repair a roof, fix a fence, clean up the chicken coop, or help me and claire fix dinner take your pick."

The trip to town was fairly mundane and uneventful, not like Aria was one to complain about a normal day with the family, but given the large amount of work that needed to be tended around the farm, she would have protested about going out in favor of starting the work early in the day. If anything, she'd probably have finished most of the work by dinner time. Most likely, she'd much rather run into some concrete to get some energy for the heavy lifting, but that's besides the point. The point was that if Vincent told her that repairs needed to be done around the farm, she'd have started at dawn instead of going out into town.

Regardless, it was the past now and there was no use complaining when work needed to be done. Taking the lion's share of the heavier bags so her younger siblings each got to carry two lighter bags, she dropped them off inside and began walking where she heard Johnathan's voice. She jogged towards the toolshed, letting the kinetic loop store energy for the heavy lifting she'll most likely be doing today. Catching up to her older sibling, she was already in the process of putting the earphones on and scrolling through her usual work playlist on her phone, keeping it at a low volume so she could still hear people speak. Smelling the usual scent of smoke coming off of her brother, she glanced at him with a small smirk before returning her gaze to her phone.

"Don't forget to shower after today," she said, keeping her eyes on the screen. "You know Claire hates the smell of cigarettes on the dinner table."

For Aria, Johnathan was the type of person that she gave enough of space to let him handle his own problems. Her surrogate parents have done enough to keep him safe around the others, and she was by far the best when it comes to handling him should fires start breaking out. Both of them were legally adults at this point, but she knew this behavior was tolerated because of their special powers or else their parents would be on him like locusts on crops. She remained passive of Johnathan's actions the most, simply giving him short reminders rather than attempt to lecture him. Lord knows he rarely cared for long winded explanations, but compared to the long tirades Claire and Maria would force them to sit through, it was clearly the lesser of evils to consider her words. Whether or not he actually took action didn't really matter to her, she believed the older sibling can make decisions for himself.

Melany
They’d ended up staying in town a lot longer than Mel, or anyone for that matter, had originally thought they were going to. They’d gone and done their shopping, which Melany had always liked doing because it got them out and about and she actually felt like a normal person for once. But, once that was over they’d received a phone call from Vincent and all of a sudden they were now staying to see a movie. It was alright though, movie theatres were nice. They were dark and Mel had always been more comfortable in the darkness then out in the sunlight, which was probably why you’d often find her clinging to every bit of shade she could find on the sunnier days like she was some sort of sun loath vampire. She couldn’t help but wonder why they’d been told to stay though, fidgeting in her seat as the movie played mulling over a million different possibilities. Another tentacle cow. Ew. Melany really hoped not. The last tentacle had been one too many tentacle cows and they really didn’t need any more tentacle cows. Tentacle cow. That was such a funny thing to think about when she really thought about it too much. Just a giant mass of spotted cow tentacle. It had tried to kill Oliver and Aria, so that wasn’t very funny, but John had been there and he’d just killed it so it was okay in the end. All of the other possibilities she could have thought up kind of wandered away as she started to just think about tentacles and how she was really glad that none of her siblings had weird tentacle powers because those things creeped her out. Well, one of Oriol’s nightmare demons things might have tentacles. That thought had made Mel shiver and she’d decided to completely abandon all thoughts about what was going on at home in favor of stuffing handfuls of popcorn in her face.

Mel wasn’t aware she had fallen asleep on the ride home until they hit a particularly bumpy part of the dirt road that led up to their property that startled her awake. She’d been dreaming about a world without tentacles and there was also a singing popcorn guy. Melany used to have nightmares when she was younger about things she didn’t really even understand, but it was always dark in them. She thinks that those nightmares were how she got so used to darkness and so comfortable with it. Eventually, they just went away but she could still remember just standing in pitch black nothingness staring into a void. If you stare long enough into nothing like that you begin to see things, your imagination plays tricks on you, and when you're in a nightmare those things can become real and they did. She hated those nightmares. But she hadn’t had them since she was little and she wasn’t afraid of the dark anymore. In fact, that same nightmare probably wouldn’t even be a nightmare to her anymore, she would probably like it. The red paint of their house came into view and Melany sat up in her seat, rubbing at her eyes to wake herself up fully before they pulled to a stop in the driveway. Maria crowded Vincent almost immediately as they all piled out of the van and Melany watched carefully as she spoke to him in hushed murmur. He seemed averse to the attention as he waved her off just as quickly in favor of addressing them. Vincent prattled on about chores, Mel’s eyes stayed rooted on Maria behind him for the most part trying to gauge what was going on from her body language, until Vincent said something about footage and told Johnathan and Aria to come with him. Her brow creased with a mix of envy and curiosity as she moved to help carry the bags into the house. She assumed he had asked after John and Aria because they were the oldest, Mel hated practically being the middle child with Soraya and she being the same age and Oriol and Oliver being the babies. Or maybe Tate was the middle child? Didn’t matter, Mel wanted to see whatever Vincent was showing her brother and sister. Aria hustled past her with like six bags in her hands and Melany couldn’t help the “tsk” and jab that escaped her mouth as she leaned in to grab the only two bags that were left.

“Okay, show off. Thanks.” Mel ducked into the house and sat her bags on the counter. Returning to Maria and the rest of her siblings as she instructed them on their choices of chores. Melany definitely did not want to repair a roof, too much direct sunlight and literally zero shade, she also disliked heights. The person who left the chicken coop open in the first place had been her so she really did not want to see all the chickens she had killed, so that was a no. The only thing Mel could cook was ramen noodles, so the only option she had was the fence.

“I’ll do the fence. I do not want to look at dead chickens or climb the roof, thank you.” Mel offered Maria a grin as she chose her chore and leaned back against the wall as she waited for the others to do the same.

Soraya
Though the trip into town had lasted longer than expected, it was a welcome surprise. Albeit not sufficient to halt Soraya’s concern regarding leaving Jinny home alone. It wasn’t that the pet insect was unable to be alone, quite the contrary. But, despite having never caused significant trouble, she could never shake the feeling that ‘this time it would go wrong’. An unjustified assumption, but one that lingered in the back of her mind nonetheless.

As such, she was thankful for the extended trip – and being able to be around other people – yet glad to be back on the farm when they did. Something about the bustle of the city made her appreciate the calm and familiar atmosphere of their farm more with every return. That fondness of the fresh air and light breeze caressing her as she stepped out of the van was something that made her consider staying permanently whenever she fantasized about living elsewhere.

Her momentary peacefulness was interrupted by Vincent addressing the group as a whole. Something about his tone demanded undivided attention. Her eyes locked onto the man with an inquisitive gaze. Paying more attention to his expression than the words that were spoken, but catching the details all the same. Something was off, but for now, she would keep her head down and do as told. Showing initiative by moving in for the bags, yet having the last ones stolen away by her sister, Melany. Leaving her stranded with empty hands in the driveway. Until Maria brought up the chores once more.

Melany was quick in her decision, but it didn’t matter much as she didn’t see much ‘value’ in repairing the fence; other than the necessity of doing so. The chicken coop however brought with it a more interesting scenario. “I’ll take care of the coop!” She exclaimed loudly before realizing that her excitement regarding dead chickens might be seen as odd. Even if their family was anything but normal themselves. “I mean.., it needs to be done anyway, might as well get it over with, right guys?”

Tate
The day had started off fun. Going into town and getting a chance to be around people other than the dozen or so Tate saw every day was something he always looked forward to, but then some incident happened back home, and he and the rest of the family were herded into the movie theater for two hours of watching some poor YA novel get gruesomely butchered on a massive projector. Not that Tate was intricately familiar with the book that was sacrificed to give rise to that snooze-fest, but it was standard procedure for film adaptations. Of course, he was no longer allowed a say in what movies to watch after his last pick caused some of the others psychological damage, but that was their problem.

The second the car was no longer moving, Tate drove his foot into the door on his side to open it, causing the entire vehicle to rattle. He jumped out fast enough for his shirt to slide up a little, and adjusted it while getting a good stretch in once free of that cramped prison. Only for Vincent to sucker-punch him and most of his siblings with a long list of chores that needed to be done before dinner, while John and Aria, the two oldest, were summoned somewhere for mysterious reasons known only to the adults. Tate stifled a groan, feeling that sitting through the movie counted as a chore in and of itself.

The back of the van was devoid of grocery bags when Tate circled around to help carry them inside, which wasn't the end of the world. He walked empty-handed into the kitchen, where chores were being delegated. Mel had already claimed the fence, and Soraya snapped up the chicken coop with a little too much enthusiasm, prompting a shrug from Tate. "Cool, I'll handle the silo," he said, trying to sound less eager. Helping with dinner was most likely a no-go, and he enjoyed the view from high up. Or would be, if he wasn't already formulating a plan to eavesdrop on whatever Vincent planned to share with his older siblings. "So I guess that leaves you two with cooking dinner," Tate assumed, gesturing at Oriol and Oliver, the two youngest. They both had the option of helping someone else, but he was already halfway through the door and didn't stick around for anwswers.

Oriol~
|interactions none|mentions everyone|outfit (pic)|
Oriol's feelings towards a day out were both good and bad. While getting away from the same old place was always a treat, being around random people was not. It was bright and loud and there were far too many people, even if where they go is nothing compared to a big city. It exhausts Oriol, just like most things, and thus makes it a hard thing to enjoy. Though spending the day with Johnathan and the other siblings was always a good treat.

Oriol had generally no idea what the film was about, even after seeing it. The movie theatre was dark and being around others tired him, so Oriol had found himself falling in and out of sleep, missing most of the movie from the frequent waking up then falling back asleep. The movie visit itself was strange to Oriol since it wasn't originally planned, but he just brushed it off as being last-minute planning.

As they pulled back home, Oriol made quick work of removing his shoes and discarding them inside the van as he left. As he turned to bring in groceries he found them to be all accounted for, leaving him with nothing else to do other than entering the house to discuss chores, frowning a little as he realized that Johnathan wasn't there. He didn't bother speaking up first, letting the others chose first. This also couldn't be denied as him zoning out from the lack of energy he always seemed to have. At being told the last two were left for the kitchen, he nodded, letting out a yawn as he began to walk towards it. Cooking was fun, he just hopes he doesn't fall asleep while doing so and burns something(again).
