quick overview: incredibly proud, but truly compassionate.


full summary: smokestep believe strongly about most things. he feels strongly about his self and his abilities, in the warrior code and in starclan, and in the duty all cats have to their clan. in a way, he is simpleminded and dedicated. he obviously tries to be strong and authoritative where he can, but when he enters into territory he knows nothing about, he can show how goofy and unprofessional he actually is. really, all he wants is to be a cat others can look up to, someone who inspires confidence in others and in brookclan, but with the recent fall of even that, he is beginning to lose a bit of his own confidence. still, he's no stranger to adversity, and he knows how important it is now more than ever to have someone to rely and trust in, and he'd really like to be that for his clan, if he can be.


in his heart, he truly wants the best for all cats, and he has learned the importance of placing their needs over his own. he can get a little carried away in trying to do what is honorable, but at the end of the day, his priorities lie with his clanmates, always willing to make hard choices to ensure their safety. a few cats have trouble reconciling his proud and haughty nature, though, believing him to be a selfish cat only concerned with his own ambitions. he's vaguely aware of his self-image and is troubled with it, so he is making active strides to change himself and the way he comes off. he takes most comments to heart, though, as he's never really taken criticism well, but he is does honestly want to make sure he is someone his clan can trust.

history

history: ever since he was young, smokestep has gone to any length he could for positive attention. he tried to impress his parents and his denmates in anyway he could, going out of his way to constantly try new things even when he stood no chance at succeeding at them. he always took his failures in stride, though, and his mother did dote on him especially for it. when he became an apprentice, he thought he would continue his behaviors, but his mentor quickly worked to curtail his efforts, constantly scolding smokepaw for being so headstrong and reckless. he was taught the warrior code, but didn't quite understand the reason for it's limitations, so he constantly found himself getting into trouble for reasons he didn't understand.


experience ended up being a good teacher, though, the day smokepaw snuck out of camp. frustrated with again being told he had to skip a meal for disobeying orders, smokepaw had ran out on his own to catch himself a meal from brookclan's rushing waters. as he tried to fish a fish out of the waters, he accidentally slipped and fell into them. his sister had noticed his absence from camp, and asked his mentor, who after being told, immediately realized what smokepaw must have done, and went after him. it was only due to smokepaw's mentor jumping in after him that smokepaw wasn't pulled away by the swift currents. the incident finally made smokepaw realize the potential cost of his overzealousness, and when he recuperated, he started to respect the authority of his elders and the code even more. smokepaw worked incredibly hard from that day forward, resolving to become the best warrior he could be.


and so he did - smokepaw's determination never wavered, even once he became smokestep. he tried hard to be a cat his mentor could be proud of, working hard to uphold the warrior code even during the extreme circumstances that continued to befall brookclan for seasons to come. in some time, he gained an apprentice, and young she-cat named mosspaw, and lost both her and his own mother, foxpelt, due to an outbreak of disease that spread through the clan. it deeply shook him at the time, but after some time, he only strengthened his resolve to his clan, for the sake of his sister and his clanmates.


his dedication through the adversity drew the attention of brookclan's leader, who at the end of the epidemic, had lost a loyal and long-serving deputy. once smokestep was fifty moons, he was appointed as brookclan's deputy, and since then, has served his leader faithfully, even to now. his leader's last request for was to make sure those who would be to ensure those who would be leaving would make it away safely, in their steed, and smokestep is leaving to do just that. smokestep has had second thoughts on the request, knowing he'll leave his only living kin, duststrike, to forfill it, but he feels in his heart it's the right thing to do, on all accounts. he wants more than anything else to ensure his clanmates find new safety, no matter what the cost.

quick overview: distant, private. a bit shy, she has a hard time expressing herself, but she'll truly stand up for what she believes is important when the time comes.

history

full summary: softbreeze has never found expressing herself easy. in a den with several rowdy, exciteable kits, including her siblings, softkit never really found it easy to compete for attention. she was the smallest, the weakest - she tired out easily and simply found it easier to let others walk over her instead of moving out of the way or making a fuss. mudjaw, just as loud and proud as the other kits she raised, found her extremely passive behavior troubling, and always looked to encourage her daughter to be more bold by emphasizing the importance of making her needs known. softkit had some trouble in taking it to heart, though, feeling too overwhelmed by her siblings for her demeanor to make much of an improvement during her time as an kit.


when softkit became an apprentice, though, her mentor renewed the effort. he tried during his time as her mentor to teach her the virtues of bravery and strength, and he constantly pushed her to go out of her element. apprentice work was hard, long hours, especially for such a small cat as softpaw, but she did truly find an appreciation for the warriors of the past and their honorable, brave actions. as an apprentice, softpaw made a resolution to herself and her mentor that she would be the best warrior as she could be, like those in tales she'd been told. it didn't seem to help her soft-spoken nature much, but it did instill in her a strong sense of ethics. it was hard for her to do, but when she heard a rumor that a small section of brookclan would be leaving, she decided to go out for herself. she was reluctant to leave, as she couldn't bear the thought of leaving behind her mother or her clan, but she feels it's the right thing to do. she really hopes in leaving she'll grow to become a stronger cat, on the inside as well as the outside, to make her mother and mentor proud.
