Intro
Through the halls of Westhill High School, the sounds of a piano could be heard. Sunlight slants sideways through the corridors, throwing sunset shades on the plain pale blue paint. A door stands ajar at the end of the hall. The music gets louder as you approach, and from this distance you can tell it's a real grand piano, not an electric keyboard so popular with budget schools these days.

The school's all but abandoned, this late in the day, save for the girl sitting at the piano inside the last room on the right. Her fingers dance across the keys with passion, motions pausing every once in a while to record on a piece of paper the progressions she produces. With four taps of the foot, she's off again, fingers tentatively trying out new progressions and mumbling words under her breath. You can't hear what she's saying, but the melody... so earnest and sad, it pulls you forwards, prompting your foot to kick a stray snare drum.

The music abruptly stops, and she turns, surprised to hear someone enter. "Oh! Hello there. Are you here to audition for the band?"

About
If you couldn't tell, this is a slice-of-life story about a bunch of kids in high school that form a band. They're all in it for their own reasons, each with their own pains and struggles. Are they truly here for the music? Will they make it big? Will the power of their friendship see them through the hard times? Or will it all fall apart at their feet?

Unlike most other band roleplays on here, we're not going to focus on the band aspect of the story. It doesn't matter if our charaters get famous - they're struggling with much bigger problems, grappling with harder realities than the music industry. The band merely acts as a tool to pull together our characters and give them a common ground to bond over. Their friendships, the relationships between the characters, the unlikely bonds they form that see them through turbulent times - that is the focus. That's what's going to drive our RP forwards.

So - on to what I'm looking for in players.
  • First and foremost, be friendly and approachable. I can't make this a fun and engaging experience if you hold us all at arm's length.
  • Be flexible. Your character is going to suffer hardships. They're going to see their friends suffer, too. Be ready for that.
  • On the same note, make your triggers known. This relates back to the first point.
  • Be able to produce a post of 2+ quality paragraphs at least once a week. It keeps the rp flowing.

Think you got what it takes? Mosey over to the roles tab and take a gander! As always, thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings, if you got this far. I hope this peaks your interest!

The Classical
This kid was classically trained from a young age, and has developed perfect pitch, as well as proficiency on both the piano and violin. Their parents are rich, and squeezing band practice between private tutoring and test prep for college was a challenge in and of itself, but they didn't go into this without parental consent. But all this parental doting and higher class standing has earned the Classical a low rung in the school's food chain. Insecurities rise, but they'll never let on. After all, a perfect child and student can't be insecure.

The Jock
In it for the money, this beefy teen is surprisingly good at carrying a beat. But being a beast on the drums is the least of the Jock's concern - their attendance to band practice is spotty at best. It's understandable, considering the fact that their entire future is riding on a sports scholarship to college. It's not that they want to get into professional sports, though they wouldn't mind that either, but their family is notoriously poor and cannot afford to send the Jock to college by other means.

The Prodigy - Taken by me!
Coming from a musical household, the Prodigy is proficient in most instruments required to perform in a rock band. This band was their idea in the first place, since getting drum major in the school's marching band didn't work out. Their father had dreams of the limelight, so it's only natural for the Prodigy to follow in their father's footsteps, or would-be footsteps. But they can't help but feel a certain amount of guilt as well - if they make it big when their father didn't, does that make them successful, or is it merely wounding their father's pride?

The Angel
Aptly named, the Angel couldn't hurt a fly. In fact, they wouldn't even be here if it weren't for how easily they caved under peer pressure. Upon hearing the Angel singing in the school bathrooms, their friends pressured them into joining the band. Gullible and naive, the Angel is a shy soul who wants nothing more than peace and quiet, to not draw any attention to themselves. That stems from a broken home life, where loud noise and attention usually resulted in bruises and bloody noses.

The Druggie
The most surprising thing, aside from the otherworldly baselines and electronic breakdowns this teen can drop, is the amount of drugs they've managed to smuggle into school. Not only do they seem to be constantly truant and smoking, but they somehow manage to supply the entire school with their own fixes at the same time. The Stoner was forced to join an extracurricular to avoid detention or suspension, and would rather be anywhere else. The question on everyone's mind is, what could someone like them need with all that drug money?

I'm definitely interested! Only thing is it's a bit hard to read roles on mobile, is it possible to get an uncoded version?
