julian's hair is dark brown and often a mess. when he's willing to put in the effort, he spikes it up to keep it away from his face, but sometimes it looks like he just got out of bed and stray strands tend to fall over his forehead and tickle his eyes.
julian has dark brown eyes. in fact, they're so dark they look almost black. he's also been complimented several times in the past for having rather long and thick eyelashes.
julian used to be a really lanky kid, but soon after he hit puberty and shifted for the first time, he gained a bit more muscle. mainly because he had way more energy than before and needed to find a way to put it to use. he's not really a gym goer — nor can he really afford it — but he goes for treks and hikes and he likes to run through nearby parks or forests early in the morning before getting his day started.
one major shift in his appearance happens when he literallyshifts his appearance and becomes a wolf. aside from this, he's got a single piercing on his left ear where he wears a simple stud.
julian almost exclusively wears clothes that are black in colour. if he needs to switch it up, he'll go with gray, but seeing him in any other colour is pretty much impossible. his sense of style is very similar to grunge. he's a fan of leather jackets and heavy, black boots. his everyday attire more or less consists of dark t-shirts and torn jeans, and maybe once in a while you'll be lucky to see him sporting a beanie — a black one, of course.
while julian may not currently have a lot of poeple in his life that he is close to, there is no doubt that he is unfailingly loyal. he would go to the ends of the earth to ensure that the people in his life are protected at all costs, and this is largely due to all the loss he experienced in his life as a child. if you somehow manage to break through that cold, hard exterior and gain his trust, then he's easily someone you can count on. break that trust even once, however, and it can never be earned again.
at the moment julian doesn't have many goals in life — he's just trying to stay alive and lay low to avoid a run in with hunters or anything else that may want to pick a fight. when he sets his mind on something though, you can bet that he'll do whatever it takes to carry that task out. he's determined and responsible, and he rarely lets anything get in his way. not if he can help it.
there is little in the world that julian fears. while he maintains a brave front any time he comes face to face with hunters, they truly are the only that sparks even the tiniest bit of terror in him, and that's simply because of what he's been through. despite that, julian has never had any problems standing his ground or taking a risk to protect himself or others. he won't always go out of his way to save the life of a stranger, but he's not totally above it either. his mere existence is a risk — what else can there be to fear?
there are a few people he's warmed up to over time but usually, julian is pretty distant. he prefers keeping to himself and not involving himself in other people's business. there are times when people pique his interest though those instances are rare. he's not always bitter, but he can quickly become cold if someone so much as asks him a question he doesn't like. his demeanour doesn't exactly scream 'friendly' either.
as determined as julian is, he can also be annoyingly stubborn. he's had to make decisions for himself, all on his own, for most of his life, so trying to change his mind once it's been made up can be quite a task. he isn't arrogant so much as someone simply used a certain way of life.
most werewolves have problems with their tempers, and julian is no different. while he isn't the type to burst forth in his wolf form if he's set off, he doesn't always deal with things in the best way when his mood is off. lately he hasn't had much reason to be angry but any time there are hunters around, julian's emotions go haywire.
hand to hand combat
julian learned how to box when he was younger, more out of need than want, and he still trains even today. it's the only reason he'd ever go to a gym since he doesn't really entertain using treadmills or lifting weights. he can hold his own in a fight, and having enhanced strength as a werewolf definitely helps. the use of any other weapon is more or less unnecessary.
wearing all black isn't just a style choice. julian's always been very good at blending into the shadows, both in human form and wolf form. his height somehow doesn't affect this ability of his, and he walks he's more like a cat than a wolf. unless he wants you to know he's around, people probably wouldn't be able to tell. this all works best at night time though. trying to blend in during the day time is a hard task. he tends to stick out like a sore thumb.
being a werewolf doesn't just mean enhanced strength. julian is also considerably faster than most humans, and even faster in his wolf form. while he's a strong believer in standing his ground and fighting, it's nice to know that he has a good chance of escaping too, should he ever need to.
wolfsbane is a plant that can be lethal to all werewolves, in large doses. in small quantities, it can incapacitate a werewolf, or slow them down enough to be held down or taken care of in other ways. anything laced with wolfsbane is definitely a weakness of julian's.
julian has had years of practise and so he doesn't shift on full moons without being able to help it anymore. that doesn't make it any easier though. he's still much more moody on such nights, and he prefers to be alone and kept indoors because he knows he could make a horrible mistake if he happens to lose his temper on a full moon night.
julian's temper has definitely been a weakness for a long time. it tends to affect his decision making and it doesn't help that the anger in him comes as qucikly as turning on a switch. his emotions get the better of him sometimes, despite him trying hard not to let that happen.

birth & childhood
julian's birth was widely celebrated among his large werewolf pack. he was the third born, though the first son, and it made his father the happiest. he'd always wanted a son, even though he was definitely proud of his two cutthroat daughters. in any case, julian's father, the alpha of a very well known pack among the supernatural community, always liked to maintain peace with other supernaturals and hunters. he didn't believe in resorting to violence unless absolutely necessary, and julian was raised with the same principles.
there were, of course, some that didn't really align themselves with the vivchar pack philosophy. being a werewolf meant having heightened emotions, and the most prominent emotion among those was definitely rage. still, none of them dared to go against their alpha because it would have dire consequences.
unfortunately, a couple of years later, disaster struck, and julian's whole life changed.
shortly after julian turned thirteen, the mood in the pack had shifted. a few years had gone by and many of the members were slowly growing more and more angry after hearing about several supernatural kills, all done by hunters. julian's father did what he could to reassure them that justice would be served, but they decided to take matters into their own hands one night.
they hit the neighbouring town, where there was reportedly an attack on a supernatural. they expected to find hunters there, and they did — but boy were they unprepared for what was to come. it turned out that the reports were all a ploy to lure them out, and with half the pack being taken down in one go, julian's family was left back home with hardly any defense.
hunters came the next day and wiped out julian's entire family. the only reason him and one of his sister's was spared was because his mother saw it coming and tried to help them get away. she was shot with an arrow in the chest along the way, and both siblings were forced to abandon her and keep going. to this day, they believe their mother died protecting them.
julian and his sister katrina hid out for a while in an abandoned cabin that they'd managed to find in the woods, and when they deemed it safe enough to come out, they found their home ransacked, and the corpses of their father and oldest sister right in the living room. the incident sparked some rage in the both of them, but they kept it down and focused on simply trying to pick up their things and move to another small town to survive away from the hunters.
julian and katrina managed for a while. a fae in the bordering town knew of their pack and remembered their father's kindness toward them and all supernatural species so they were given a place to stay till they came of age. when katrina turned eighteen she chose to leave the country altogether, and though she extended that offer to julian, he refused. there was a part of him, deep down, that was vengeful. if he was to leave, he'd leave knowing that he could never get any justice.
so, the siblings were separated, and julian survived on his own since then. it wasn't so bad. he mostly kept to himself, and he put his drawing skills to use by becoming an apprentice at a local tattoo parlour. he lives a more or less peaceful — albeit mundane — life, but that's fine for him.
while he doesn't actively seek out vengeance, he sticks around hoping that maybe one of those hunters will return knowing they let some of the pack go, and julian knows that if that day arrives, he'll definitely be prepared for it.
elena vivchar — mother (deceased)
julian and his mother were close. the woman taught him more about being a wolf than his dad did, and he always admired the way she carried herself with confidence and an aura that kept people from questioning her abilities and decisions. julian's been convinced that she's been dead for a long time, along with the rest of his family, though he secretly wishes he would have gotten some closure with her the way he did with his dad and oldest sister. in his mother's case, a body was never found.
levi vivchar — father (deceased)
julian always looked up to his father. he still holds on to the belief that violence isn't the answer, and it's because of him that he treats all other supernaturals with equal respect — which can't be said for many of the others in return. he only receives respect out of intimidation because the vivchar pack was easily one of the biggest and more powerful ones, and it's reduced now to just two members. the name alone still makes many supernaturals do a double take but julian treats them all with respect and he keeps to himself most of the time anyway. he continues to live by his father's philosophy... with the occasional exception if someone annoys him too much.
cassandra vivchar — older sister (deceased)
cassandra was second in charge and she made both of her parents quite proud. she always had a way of keeping both her younger siblings in check when they bickered with each other, and whenever their parents were busy, cassandra looked after them. julian always believed she was a great older sister, and her death possibly hit him the hardest.
katrina vivchar — older sister (alive)
katrina is currently settled in france. she wanted a change of scenery as soon as she turned eighteen and she earned enough money on her own to finance herself along the way. she tries to lead a normal life there, away from most supernaturals and away from most hunters. she's been doing well for herself so far, and she keeps in touch with julian, occasionally sending him a care package every now and then, and julian does the same if kat is ever feeling homesick.
jessa has always found long hair more of hassle than it's worth, therefore her locks rarely fall below her shoulders anymore [ much to her mother's despair].
her round shaped eyes form a mosaic of green shades that turn into a bright melange of spring when exposed in fervent light. her prominent eyelashes gain her a dainty look that others might associate with a doll. while this might earn her some compliments in the mundane world, her own society only sees a puppet. ready to be controlled.
jessamine has a slim body with neither a lot of fat or muscle. her family often argues that it looks too frail or weak for the appearance of a distuingished huntress but she thinks they are merely focusing on different strengths. her build, after all, hasn't failed her in stealth yet.
her body only knows temporary modifications, those that are taken from a vial and run through her veigns when needed. it could be the enhancement in either of the five senses, or, albeit more powerful but riskier, lend her some abilities that go above human capabilities. they never last long though, and the after-effects remain a pain to deal with.
in her free time, her clothing style is brimming of colours, unafraid to show a femininity others might find exorbitant. there is no shortage of patterns or variety of fabrics: jessamine fully embraces the perceived oddities in fashion and dresses however she feels like it. when on a mission or hunt, her looks are far more prosaic and monochrome. the dresses get traded in for jeans, the patterns for blank normalcy. in the world of hunting, practicalities and safety trumps artistry after all - lest you wish to become the hunted.
she is the alice in wonderland of hunter society: the mad girl who follows a random animal into the rabbit hole without so much as rationalism stopping her. the one led by nothing but curiosity and an inherent thirst to uncover the unknown and trail paths no one has trodden before. she's an adventurist at heart, a seeker of challenges and solver of mysteries, though not the kind her parents had wished for her to be. there is no place in the duty and honour of a huntress to be eccentric but she is anyways. follows her heart with more conviction than she will ever do with written codes that dictate unquestioning loyalty and frightening indifference. they want to make her a sword and a shield, a weapon and defence to brandish in their quiet war, but she is no soulless object to decide on life and death. she is human; the ones who will bleed emotions even if the wound is long gone, the ones with a mind as bendable as it is breakable.
the person who can love what should not be loved and hate what others adore. she is not to be a mindless pawn on a checkerboard, waiting to heed the commands of something greater than her. she is jessamine, one who firmly believes in deciding her own steps in life, whether it would lead her to the right side or not. a prism that reflects her soul in all colours no matter where she goes, blinding but beautiful. people might see her as a troublesome rebel, the ripple in the once perfect still water, and there might be some truth to that, but jessamine has a regard on her own of those who brand her weak. she sees people who surrounded themselves with so much supernatural that it stripped them from their humanity. she might be an oddity in society, but she is human. and that's all that matters.
holds little attachment to traditions and even less affinity towards the concept of tautology. has embarked herself on a journey to see the world with new insights and actualizing the crazy and impossible. the sky might be the limit to those standing with their feet planted on the ground but she is soaring above with the galaxy at her fingertips (figuratively speaking). she knows no boundaries when it comes to exploring the madness in ideas and remains unafraid in marching to the beat of her own drums. she is her own brand of originality. she is jessamine.
believes in the infinity of shades even when the world holds onto the concept of monochromaticity. has been labelled many things, good and bad, by those who did not even attempt to dig deeper than surface level, and tries her best not to make the same mistake. there's a weakness somewhere in her refusal to paint the picture without discovering every colour that makes the person who they are but for now, jessamine holds her open-minded demeanour close to her chest, treasuring it like a virtue rather than a vice. there's a bit of pride somewhere too, a tinge of egotism in knowing that in the end, she will have more knowledge than you.
jessamine breathes emotions, lets it burn brightly even if it burns herself. she understands the complexity of feelings and thoughts because she can't control them either [even if she wants to]. has no difficulty connecting with even the most stoic characters in life, her eyes watchful of not only the exterior lines but those that lie beneath the skin. her ability to grasp the hidden emotions behind the mask has gained her more power than those wilfully ignorant ever will, and it crowns her.
dauntless she is not, but jessamine does not let fear succumb her into yielding. there are plenty of dangers in the world, especially when your whole life has been revolving around hunting those lethal. nevertheless, this girl has learned that it's often not the beast in the street that you got to dread but the one that's howling inside your head. jessamine knows the path to ruins may very well be the same she has to tread to lead her to paradise, so taking risks is never out of the question, and she does it - fearful as she might be - but she does it.
emotions have been crowned queen in jessamine's life and wield a power over her in ways beneficial and detrimental. they are the ones that command the body, the ones that often determine her choices regardless the situation. it is these feelings that rally the impulses into a force an unwavering force. her heart is what blinds her from the dangers ahead, blurring the possible consequences till all you can see is the now. it is this vice that might very well be her undoing.
as easy as it is to capture jessamine's attention, it's even easier to lose it. whether the culprit is her own reveries or just something arbitrarily there around, her focus tends to not last long. jessamine's attention can be painfully hard to lock down, but once you can access to her sincere interest, her devotion will be immeasurable.
not a complete odd duckling, jessamine has inherited at least this trait from her lineage. unfortunately, it's not one often working in her favour. her mind, as contrastingly open as it is in comparison with her family, still holds an obduracy. at times, you can no more change jessamine's mind as you can persuade the dawn not to come. she can be frustratingly stubborn in a lot of ways; like refusing to heed someone else's commands without a proper argument why she should or remaining unwilling to compromise her principals to achieve the 'best result'.
fickle in nature and contrasting in promise, it is not that much of a surprise that her emotions are prone to rooting her immobile out of indecision. jessamine deeply cares about the individual, but can never quite shake the importance of the collective either. it's this timeless war between thoughts, feelings and knowledge that entraps her more often than she'd like. not to mention that it is becoming increasingly more dangerous as she find herself diving deeper and deeper into the sea that is her family's legacy. after all, to be caught like a deer in the headlights rarely ends well as a huntress.
jessamine's creativity often allows her to conjure unconventional ideas that might just be so crazy that it can work. her out of the box thinking has saved her from precarious situations multiple times now, and it is something she prides herself on.
despite the loud oddities to her exterior and persona in regards to other hunters, jessamine is actually quite skilled in performing stealth. her more willowy figure grants her ease in disappearing into shadows, corners and other crevices in her surroundings and she has become very adept in staying as silent as possible when on the hunt.
light on her feet and flexible in body, jessamine is able to perform multiple agile tricks that make her not as easy to hit and even more difficult to catch when on the chase. she can climb onto most buildings as long as she got something to hold onto to, and even then, this huntress always finds a way to get where she wants to be - even if it means to defy gravity.
as stated before, jessamine's emotions can struck herself renderless sometimes or make her lose the rationale needed to win the fight. her parents often argue that her feelings are her biggest enemy when it comes to her role and warn that if she doesn't learn to curb this weakness, it will become her death one day. as harsh as it sounds, those words do hold some truth to it, but jessamine just doesn't not know yet how she can turn it off.
jessamine's favour in tactics lies in stealth and avoiding direct combat partly because she is not very good in performing combat moves. her strength often fails her in these type of scenarios, the offence is the best defence not holding sway with her abilities, and the huntress often finds herself evading or parrying attacks in these close ranged fights instead of delivering punches and kicks.
if you thought her incompetence in combat would be compromised by a high aptitude in long-range fighting, then you are, unfortunately, deeply mistaken. jessamine is in no way the next katniss everdeen with her horrible archer skills, unable to land her arrows even if her life depended on it. she is better with a gun, though distance aiming does not remain her strong suit.

birth & childhood
in true fashion of the gray family, jocelyn refused to be in the hospital for something as silly as childbirth and insisted on staying at home. just like the previous time, the gender of the child remained a secret, her parents deciding they would rather discover it when the time came. although, in humorous spirit, charles gray did place a bet on the gender being a boy. it was, unfortunately, one he lost as the family welcomed another girl in the family, much to jocelyn's own gratification. she was named jessamine after her great grandmother; an honorable name that hopefully promised a similar legacy. whether or not the girl was able to live up to her namesake was yet to be determined, but her parents had faith, and that's all that mattered.
jessamine's childhood was wholly different yet completely normal. being born the child of the great gray family, she had already obtained a certain amount of prestige in the hunter society that other children of lesser families didn't have. nevertheless, her last name did come with its own set of responsibilities and a weight on the shoulders perhaps greater than the child itself. while normal children would spend their free time outside, jessamine's was filled with weapon and combat training and lessons on herbology and the supernatural. aside from her parents, she had plenty of tutors to ensure her family's reputation was preceded. unfortunately, it quickly became evident that this young girl's potential was not as great as they had hoped, her overall interest in becoming a hunter being as low as her overall competence in almost every hunter skill. but her parents refused to give up, clinging to the idea that she was merely a very slow learner. especially her mother seemed to refuse the notion that any of her daughters could be as bad of a hunter as jessamine and proceeded to double the training in, perhaps, desperate effort to salvage the situation...
years has gone by and the little girl has suddenly turned into a teenager. unfortunately, despite all the trainings and her mother's constant drilling, jessamine has made little improvements overall in becoming an esteemed huntress as the others in the family. even at this age, her parents seemed to have accepted the disappointing fate of their younger daughter and instead, began to focus solely on her far more successful sister. at one hand, being deemed a lost cause gained jessamine the well-desired freedom to pursue the matters she was interested in the most, like solving the world's biggest mysteries. at the other hand, being completely cast aside in the shadows of her older sister did hurt more than she would've liked to let on. it was one thing for her parents to realize that the hunter life wasn't for her, but to not invest any energy in being interested in her own aspirations?
All the young teen wanted was to feel supported in her own life, but as time went by, it became clear to Jessamine that this was not something she'd get from her family nor from the society she was currently living in. She was the odd one out, the black sheep of the grays, someone unworthy of a mention in the history books, a name meant to be forgotten in the passage of time. Jessamine could see how her life would progress when staying, looked into the dark depths of constant deprecation, and decided to take the strings of fate into her own hands. if there was no life for her among the hunter society, she would venture out and search for a place where she would have one.
Jessamine was merely eighteen when she erased herself from the condemning narrative of the hunters and bid goodbye to her parents. her father showed support in her decision and placed a kiss against her forehead, telling her she would always have a home here. jocelyn held an adamant opinion against it at first, telling her that it would be foolish to give this life up in exchange for something as uncertain as the unknown, though ultimately accepted that she couldn't stop her. her sister olivia was not present when she left, but jessamine received a message later in support from her saying that she hoped her younger sister would find what she was looking for.
and thus a new defining chapter of jessamine's life commenced, marking a new beginning.
it has been years and jessamine has been living her best life traveling all across europe, doing all kinds of work. she has recently been working at a local news paper office back in the UK and doing research on various matters such as crimes and missing people. the female regularly keeps in contact with her family still and despite initial expectations, she feels closer to them than she has ever felt before.
all seemed perfect and well - right until an unexpected death tore their world asunder.
suddenly, the golden child of the gray family is gone, and everyone is grasping at the threads of this unexplainable tragedy like holding on could reverse everything. jessamine finds herself back at home in a black outfit she never had imagined to be wearing so soon, staring hollowly at the grave, the weight of the loss befalling upon on her.
never had jessamine imagined to re-enter the hunter society, but here she is: sent on a mission previously meant for her sister.
here's to hoping she still got a sliver of a huntress in her.
- for she is the last hope;
her family's legacy.
jocelyn gray — mother
Jessamine and her mother have a complicated relationship. jocelyn has never been one to exhibit many emotions and rather follows the ideology of 'tough love' than showing affection, claiming that the latter only breeds more weaknesses. as stern in her teachings, she is in her motherhood and the two often clashed because of this. jocelyn held no hesitations in expressing her disappointment in jessamine's lack of improvement, often lamenting how much worse she was in comparison with her sister at that age, and jessamine often felt more criticised than loved by her mother. their relationship have improved over the years, especially after the death of olivia, but she wouldn't consider herself close to her mother still.
charles gray — father
charles, while equally as strong and esteemed of a hunter as jocelyn, at the very least showed more care towards jessamine. even though he is more an actions than a words kind of person, it was clear that he loved his two daughters regardless of their succession in hunter society. he was the only one that tried to show at least a little bit of interest in what jessamine wanted to do in life and always tried to remind her that she would have his support. you can definitely say that jessamine is more her father's girl than her mother's and that is yet to change. she loves her father dearly and is now willing to become a succesful huntress just to carry on his legacy.
olivia gray — sister
it would be a lie to say that jessamine has never been envious of her older sister when olivia harbored all the family's pride and affection. even though olivia has never been outright mean towards her, she also didn't seem to care much about how the two were essentially pitted against each other by their mother. instead, it just seemed like the older sister revelled in the reverence she received, and for that, jessamine did build up some resentment. nevertheless, as the youngest gray started to paveher own path, she was able to let go of that grudge and the two sisters grew closer together as the years went by. olivia's death hit jessamine hard, and she fears that she can't ever trully fill the hole that her sister left behind.
jessa - this name is more frequently used than jessamine, the latter mostly being reserved for lectures or other admonishments of the kind.
jessamad - this is not purely used in a teasing referring sense to a temperamental state but more as a questioning-your-sanity kind of jab. so not the kindhearted nickname of the bunch.
dove - while her older sister gained the doting parental addressing of my 'sparrow', her father designated my 'dove' to her.
