Otiorin Taletreader, Half-Elf Rogue Sorcerer (Pathfinder 1.0)

Captain Hesperus

Harbinger of the End Times and Apostle of Ghan
Administrator
Supporter

  • Name: Otiorin Taletreader (or "Mister Scoundrel" if you ask Bria)
Alignment: Chaotic Good (Neutral Good tendencies)
    Classes: Sorcerer and Rogue
    Race: Half-Elf (Grey Elf)
Deity: Corellon Larethian, God of Surface Elves and the sun.
    Level: 13th (7th level Sorcerer/6th level Rogue)
    Size: Medium
    Age: 22
    Gender: Male
    Height: 5 feet, 8 inches (173 cm)
    Weight: 140 lbs (64 kg)
    Eyes: Brown
    Hair: Brown
    Build: Athletic
Ethnic appearance: Otiorin shares the ethnic appearance of his father's and mother's peoples, but mostly his father's.
Place of Birth: Waterwind, Home of the Grey Elves, Averlund, Sharseya.
Hobbies: Games of chance, storytelling, socialising.

Physical appearance: Otiorin was previously a slender young man with the physique of a climber, toned but understated. Now, with the blessing of the fae, his muscles are more promenent and his body has more presence. He moves with more grace than a human, but not as gracefully as an elf, enough than he can choose to pass as an elf in settlements where elves are rarely seen. The pointed ears of his mother's heritage are less pronounced in Otiorin's case, but his do still come to a point at the top, although the body of the ear is more rounded like a human's.

Character concept: Otiorin was the bored son of Waterwind who became enamored by tales of heroism told to him by his mother. One such tale lead him to the desire to go into the greater world and seek out the Sunfire Blade, a legendary weapon of one of Waterwind's greatest heroes, to reunite it with it's mated blade, the Moonlit Edge.

Character background: Otiorin has always been something of a dabbler, changing his interests as often as he changes his clothes. His tutors always told him he could excel in any subject he set his mind to, if only he applied himself to it. Of course, all his tutors were elves and to them, applying oneself to a subject fully would require a full human lifetime. Otiorin found that concept tiring and so never really sought to focus on any particular subject.

Otiorin's +2 weapon is his mother's gift to him: the ancestral weapon, Moonlit Edge.

This weapon was forged in the far history of the Grey Elven kingdoms. Legends tell that the weapon was forged as part of a matched set alongside a longsword, the Sunfire Blade. Stories tell that the bearer of these blades went on to perform great and noble deeds far and wide across the world, a shining champion of all the Elven people. It was only with that warrior's end were the two blades separated. The warrior was with an army, deployed to beat back an encroachment of dark creatures from beyond the borders of the kingdom, and the force sallied out in high spirits since their hero was among their number. But unbeknownst to all, the enemy they were facing had in their number a dark champion of their own, a vicious, avaricious creature who desired the hero's head to mount upon his trophy rack alongside those of other great warriors it had slain. So the beast laid a trap, an ambush, and enticed the hero's army to attack. Spurred on by their foolhardy bravado, the hero's army rushed headlong into the ambush and were swiftly decimated by the forces of the dark warrior. The hero, seeing his allies dying left and right for no good purpose, ordered the retreat, signalling his ragged followers to retreat through a narrow canyon to the safety of the lands beyond.

But the dark warrior would not allow his prey to escape so easily and sent his best harriers to try to cut them off. They were successful in that they slowed the army and turned the hero's orderly retreat into a near rout. So the hero made a fateful decision. He planted his banner at the head of the canyon, gathered about him his most trusted retainers and prepared to stand his ground, the better to allow his army to flee. The youngest of his retainers, a drummer-boy, stood petrified and wide-eyed at the endless thousands of the enemy and the hero saw his fear. He unhooked the Moonlit Edge from his belt and pressed it into the boys hands, telling him, "Go now, return this to your homeland. That is your service to me. In time, these two weapons, the Sunfire Blade and the Moonlit Edge shall call to one another for their fate is to be together and they shall once more be worn together. Until that time, guard that weapon."

So saying, he put the drummer-boy across the saddle of his own horse and sent them away through the canyon, even as the enemy army's battle-horns rang out across the field and were drowned out by the thunder of thousands of feet rushing across the open ground.

The battle that ensued was a forgone conclusion. Scouts from the hero's army returned through the canyon and reported a scene of mass destruction. Hundreds of the enemy had been slain in that narrow entrance, so many that a wall dozens of feet high had been made of their remains. Interspersed through them were the fallen bodies of the hero's retainers. Of the hero himself and his sword, The Sunfire Blade? None could say. Neither could be found, not at the battle site nor anywhere within a dozen miles around it. The enemy army had retired, for no reason known to those they had attacked.

A couple of theme tunes for Oti:

First, his theme tune (or at least how he hears it)

And here's one for Moonlit Edge, because she's getting to become quite the companion

And for when Oti is sad, melancholy or in love

Congratulations! Through his interactions with the Daughters of Summertime, Otiorin has gained a +3 permanent bonus into any one attribute. Bonuses are retroactive in nature (i.e. adding to Constitution would provide hit points for his every level since 1st, not just his current level).

And I think I will have it in CON. Thankyewverymuch.

O.K. This increases Otiorin's CON score to 16. His Fortitude saving throw improves (add +2 to it) and he gains 14 hit points. Plus, he's hunkier. Bria will like that. =)

And his clothes are slightly tighter...

Bria will definitely like it. :captainHappy:

Nicely done, Cap'n. Where is Otiorin's 8th level bonus attribute point going?

Also, I found a handful of other things you may benefit from?

1. The Moonlit Edge is now a Frost Shortsword with Light on Command +3 (doing an additional d6 cold damage on a successful hit, the frost power can be turned on and off upon command, the sword's cold does not harm the wielder, and it shines like a torch upon command).

2. Otiorin's Mage Skin armor is Leather Armor +2 with the following special abilities: Its armor bonus stacks with Mage Armor (only) and when worn, there is zero chance of Arcane spell failure (normally 10%).

3. The "feat" Rogue Finesse is actually a Rogue Talent named "Finesse Rogue" (at least in the Core Book, pg 68).

8th Level Attribute bonus goes to INT (bonuses applied to skills)

Also his Signature abilities were (if I recall clearly):

Silver Eyes, Silver Tongue: +1 to Bluff and Diplomacy checks.

Elven Ears, Elven Hands: +1 to hit with Elven-crafted weapons.

Dragon-sight: Dragon-sight works at will as a minor Signature Ability. This works similarly to a Detect Magic cantrip in that it the longer Otiorin stares upon something using the sight, the more information he gains. However, the information it provides is much different than that of the cantrip.
