Wealth, fame, power! Monkey D. Luffy, the 'King of the Pirates' attained this and everything else the world had to offer and his dying words drove countless souls back to the seas- "You want my treasure? Hehe, sure you can have it! I left it altogether in one place! Now you just have to find it! Cheheehee!". These words lured men back to the Grand Line in pursuit of dreams far greater than they had ever dared dream before. This is the beginning of a new era! The Great Pirate Era Part Two- Electric Boogaloo! I mean! Ahem! The Grand Pirate Era. So Come aboard and bring along all your hopes and dreams!

This Rp takes place ten years after the death of Monkey D. Luffy, King of the pirates and the man who could buy the world. His death imitated that of the previous pirate king, sending shockwaves through society once again, sparking a powderkeg that was just waiting to blow! Yes just like with Rodger, Luffy has kickstarted yet another age of piracy and exploration. Many have taken to the sea in search of the one-piece and the new world has once again fallen into a state of flux following the huge power gap left behind by Luffy's death. The marines have their work cut out for them and especially in the past five years, they have opted to crush every pirate they possibly can. If they can stop pirates from reaching the new world, things will be far easier controlled!

The sea is filled with sea kings, monsters, hostile pirate groups, marines and all sorts of strange and mysterious phenomenons just waiting to ruin your fun. But you're not going to let that get in the way of your dreams now are you?

This rp will be starting on Foosha Island, the birthplace and presumed resting place of the famous Monkey d. Luffy and also where he famously met with red-haired Shanks and began his pirating adventure. There has just been a marine battle a short way off the coast and wounded from both sides are washing up on the shores. Your captain Frances D. Nightingale is currently aiding the town's officials in an emergency field tent near the docks. You have yet to meet her but for those of you who join on this very island, you can be sure you'll have met her by the time you embark on the next step of this adventure.

It was late at night when the echoing cannon fire began to roar across the horizon of Foosha village. Stirred from their slumber the citizens had no idea what to make of the situation, the navy hadn't warned them of any encroaching battle nor were they told to repair for a large scale pirate raid by the Gao Kingdom officials. Yet here they were, subject to roaring cannon fire the likes of which many hadn't witnessed since the pirate king himself returned on his final voyage to say his goodbyes. What was going on? Who or what had caused such an event and what exactly were the poor citizens supposed to do in preparation?

The answer wasn't a simple one but after an emergency meeting of the village elders, it was decided that the town would prepare for the worst-case scenario, a pirate raid. For the remainder of the night, the village set about preparing defensive barriers and redying gorilla weaponry with which they could hopefully defend themselves. Fortunately, though, the worst hadn't come to pass and the village was safe. Relatively speaking of course. Come morning a messenger bird delivered the news that the cannon fire heard last night was nothing more than a navy battle between an assortment of pirate and navy vessels. The pirates in question were routed and slowly corralled into a firing line, all in all five crews had been wiped out that night and according to the report, there was no need for worry. In fact, the only thing the village had to do in all this was promptly turn in whoever washed up upon the shores during the coming few days.

To aid with this a single navy ship docked later that day. The crew numbered fifty in total and they set up base right there at the docks, not wanting to venture too far into the pirate kings home. A diplomatic approach, besides if any ship wanted to leave it would surely be spotted regardless of if they patrolled the land or not.

Enter you. It has been two days since the attack and the navy are now firmly set up in the docks. Many have washed ashore, some still alive and many others already deceased. Dr. Nightingale and her partner in crime Mahi have been on the island for a week now, they have been commissioned by the village to help survivors of the battle recover. There are mixed views among the islanders, many of the older generations wish to aid the pirates who wash ashore while many of the younger generations are pro turning them in. How will this story evolve? Well, that's up to you!

A Nightengale post will follow later but one can assume she is currently hard at work in a makeshift first aid tent. It is currently mid-day and the weather is pleasant.

Vanessa Williams
Komi 1 small.png
It was a strange series of events. She had followed a cat and stumbled upon a group of pirates. The pirates might have been your average, run of the mill pirates, but to an average girl they seemed even scarier. Fearing for her life, the girl in her school uniform donned an eyepatch. She didn't feel like much of a pirate though. Her hair was too silky, her hands to soft, and her gaze too innocent.

Vanessa had never manned a ship before, but after receiving some crude instructions, she quickly fulfilled her new pirate duties. Where were they sailing to? Where they heading toward treasure? Were they going to plunder a village? Her social anxiety buried her questions deep inside her and they weren't answered until long into the night. It was a lot worse than she had imagined. They were fighting marines.

Or at least, they were trying to.

Vanessa slowly opened her eyes. The blurry figure of a man appeared in her vision. Muscles came into focus and then she passed out again.

Day 1When she regained consciousness, she was inside a medical tent. Bandages covered a bump on her head and other minor cuts and bruises on her body.

She was a quiet patient and an angel compared to some of the rowdier patients. She tried to talk to the blond doctor, Nightengale, but the first day she only managed to take deep breaths and stutter what almost sounded like words. She quickly gave up on talking and gestured with her hands, mimicking writing in a notebook.

My name is Vanessa Williams. I am not a pirate.

Day 2Vanessa has slept longer than she intended to. Judging from the sunlight entering the tent, it was now mid-day. She sat up in her cot and tightly hugged her notebook. She could see Nightengale working, but didn't want to interrupt. She'd wait for the doctor to walk over before even attempting to talk.

Mahi couldn’t deny that he was enjoying himself despite all the chaotic and admittedly depressing work of fishing out sailors and pirates. Granted most of what he was dredging up now were bodies, unfortunates either killed outright by the conflict or those who drowned before he or the other divers could get to him. He had to admit though, sifting through the debris of the sunken ships reminded him of fond times spent with his fellow fishmen of the salvage crew. He wondered where they were, before his mind began to wander and he started thinking up a way to more quickly and efficiently pull things from the seafloor. Unfortunately all the designs he could think of required a boat, a workshop, and time that he did not have. When he reached the shore with his new haul of corpses strung together with sailing rope he couldnt help but be overwhelmed briefly by the sheer morbidity of the situation. “perhaps taking a break could do me some good…” he muttered to himself as he went inland from the shore and towards the small clinic building that Captain Nightingale had turned into a makeshift hospital.
~~~
As he entered the building he found the captain hard at work and figured it would save time if instead of greetings he just gave his report “No luck so far, im going to eat and then ill be going back. i have to admit, i don’t have alot of optimism about finding any more survivors. Unless they have gills theyve probably drowned by now.” His tone was cold and seemingly devoid of emotion but a careful ear would detect a bit of bitterness in his tone, well hidden, but there nonetheless. He found it hard to look at the captain, though he hadnt known her long he knew she wouldnt take the report too well, even if she hid it better than him he knew she wanted to help people…otherwise he wouldn’t be here today. Rather than wait for her to look over at him and awkwardly shift his gaze away he just let his eyes wander a bit spotting one of the early survivors from the first day sitting up in her bed clutching her notebook to her chest like it was some kind of shield. “Oh hey…your awake. Thats good, kinda needed some good news. Are you hungry? Im about to get some food i could pick up a little extra without to much inconvenience.” Again his tone was flat and devoid of emotion, yet the bitterness had faded away and he seemed his usual collected self. Drawing a cigarette from a waterproof case and leaning over to a burning scented candle to light it.
Frances D. Nightingale
Nightengale had been hard at work the past 48 hours, from light first aid to in-depth surgery she had done it all. Anyone who was lucky enough to be fished out of the sea by Mahi and brought to the tent with a pulse thankfully found themselves stabilising shortly after. Of course, there were those less fortunate, those who had washed up upon the shore with their souls having already departed. The navy didn't care to clean up their mess, nor did they care who lived or died, they only wanted those with bounties wrapped up and handed over to them with a bow and ribbon neatly in place. Nightengale reckoned even a severed head would please them, a body be it alive or dead? That was just a bonus!
In the past 48 hours, Nightengale along with volunteers from the village had seen at least two dozen men and women pass through their hands. Two dozen pirates and navy alike. Thanks to the enormous effort invested those two dozen patients all made it through alive, some had to forfeit limbs and others organs but ultimately they were alive and bar two everyone was currently in a stable position.
Standing in the middle of the medical tent Nightengale was deeply focused, so focused in fact she completely missed what Mahi had to say, her hands working quickly to remove shrapnel shards from a young Navy soldier Mahi had recently brought back from the beach. From the looks of things, the boy was no older than twenty-five yet no younger than twenty and based on his uniform and well-kept sword he was a brand new recruit. His pain tolerance was also lacking, with each and every move of her scalpel the boy would let out a stomach-churning scream. It took two other men to hold him down firmly while Nightengale worked but as she did the woman couldn't help but feel guilty. She was, of course, doing this for his own good and without doing so his chance of survival would plummet but still, even if there were no painkillers to be spared could this really be considered ethical?
Working quickly Nightengale managed to safely remove all the shrapnel following roughly a fifteen-minute procedure, a procedure in which the pain eventually forced the boy unconscious for better or worse. As she stitched up his wounds Nightengale let out a sigh of relief. After removing her blood-stained gloves and wiping down her palms and forehead Nightengale pushed past the dividing curtain and slumped down into a chair on the opposite side, leaving the rest to the village doctors now that the main issue had been resolved. After a brief few seconds of silent contemplation, Nightengale looked up to find Mahi Speaking to a patient.
Offering a soft smile quickly followed by a stern frown Nightengale spoke up "Mahi! What have I told you about smoking in the tent! I didn't go through all the trouble of patching these folks up just for you to kill them with your noxious fumes!". Crossing her arms over her chest and sliding one leg over the other as she sat Nightengale started the Fishman down as she spoke. The woman had yet to rest since handling her first patient and both her pale complexion and darkened eyes were more evidence than was needed. Tie in the foul stench of sweat and blood stained coat and you had yourself a clear indication Nightengale was starting to hit her limit. But, it was probably best not to mention the captain to be currently stunk of sweat!
The pained screams from the patient were unnerving. Vanessa's eyes went wide and she hugged the notebook the tighter. Once the screaming stopped, it took a moment for her body to relax. She let out a sigh of relief.
She heard approaching footsteps and shifted her gaze to the tent's entrance. She recognized the muscular man; he was the one that had carried her here. At the mention of food, her stomach growled as if on que. "F...food?" she stuttered in a soft, breathy voice.
She brought a hand up to her chin and glanced at the floor. She wasn't sure what kind of food was available, or if she was specifically craving something, but she did know that she was hungry.
Vanessa opened up the note book and started to write. Once she finished she turned the page toward Mahi.
Thanks for the offer. I'd love some food.
Could you get some for the doctor too? She's been working very hard.
Arian Graham
Interactions: Anyone at the docks that smells the food.
Arian arrived at Foosha village during the night of the battle between the navy and the pirates, for that would be the most opportune moment to appear within the village. The chaos after that battle helped him blend into the crowd, he tied a purple sash around his head to hide his not-so-common hair color from others.
He spent the night near the docks looking at the battle, and later on as some people started rescuing people, from both sides at that.
‘I wouldn't do that for sure. But whatever floats their boat.’
Arian thought to himself, looking from afar, he saw a pair of people saving others day and night, that lit a spark within him, while he did not want to help rescue marines he wanted to at least prep them a decent meal.
So at dawn, he ventured to the village, and with the last of his money, he bought a decent-sized pot with some cooking utensils and helped people around the market for some ingredients. After a few hours of work, he got enough to make a decent meal for those two people he saw from afar.
Then he went towards the docks where he saw them, deciding not to look for them, he picked a spot where a brazier was standing and enough heat was still coming from it to cook something real quick. First, he put some water into the wok and let it boil a bit along with a piece of meat along with a bone to make the stock.
Then he sat down and started chopping all the veggies and other ingredients into bite-sized pieces, not caring about any onlookers.
After he was done he removed the bone and stripped it off the meat, and put the things he chopped along with the meat back in, covering the wok.
‘Now the waiting game begins!’
Thought Arian standing there menacingly above his wok, looking like he could start a fight with this pot, while the smell from the pot starts floating around the docks.
"How did I end up here?" A quiet mutter came from a mostly shirtless man. To the left of him stood a large staff mostly covered by a long knee length coat, his most prominent feature to those just seeing the individual would be a heavily scarred back that was mostly covered, but it was clear this individual had seen his fair share of battles or at least that seemed to be the case at first glance. If you asked him, that man was Enzo Benkei, a pirate, revolutionary, and all-around good guy...if you asked him. He'd been stranded on Foosha, a well-known island best renowned (or infamous, depending on who you ask) for producing three of the most powerful people of the current generation and one of his hero's.
He arrived three days ago late at night and was greeted by an unexpected sight: the island was preparing for a pirate raid. Some of the locals initially mistrusted him and even threatened him, believing him to be a pirate, which they were not, but they rapidly changed their tune once he pledged to help and protect them, as a revolutionary he knew how to change the minds of people. It took some convincing, but assisting in the formation of a militia from civilians, arming them, providing some very rudimentary training, and assisting with defensive construction had all helped persuade even the most sceptics. He did this for two days before learning that there would be no raid and that the conflict had instead been between the navy and some pirates. Enzo had hoped to help the townsfolk in exchange for one of the pirate ships, but instead he found himself in a worse situation: not only did he lack a seaworthy ship, but a ship full of marines had docked at the only port in town, leaving Enzo stranded for the time being, as evidenced by his current activity of choice.
Enzo was face down on a table inside a tavern on Foosha, talking to himself like a mad man, or a drunk one, the latter was what he was going for, with a half drunk bottle of cheap whiskey beside him. "Come on, Enzo, it's time to go, I need to open for the actual clients." As he stood from the table, a feminine voice boomed in his ear. "I'm leaving, I'm leaving." Enzo slurred as he reached for the whiskey bottle. He had been staying at the tavern for the past two days; it was a good place to hide, and the tavern owner was more than happy to accommodate him as payment for his assistance in helping the town prepare, even if it was unneeded; not to mention he was a great customer who had spent a lot of money during his brief stay.
Enzo walked out the tavern doors, took a massive sip of whiskey, and stared at the sky for a few minutes, packing up his possessions. It was pleasant weather, with no strong winds and no rain on the horizon; for many, this would be ideal sailing weather, but for Enzo, it would be tedious; even someone with little to no sailing experience could sail in this weather. A little sigh escaped the tall man's lips; at this pace, he didn't know when he'd get another chance to sail but he really wanted off this island.
Enzo took another drink of whiskey and rummaged through his luggage, revealing a small tin, a note, and a lovely pipe. Enzo filled his pipe with the tobacco and herb combination inside the tin, then struck a match from the tin before lighting his pipe. Enzo took a big breath and put the tin away, then looked at his note again before scrunching it up and throwing it away. Sure, the Study Pirates meant well, but they might have at the very least given him a hint as to what he should do next, if not an actual boat rather than a rowing boat. Enzo quickly drank the remainder of the whiskey before tossing the bottle into his bag; he wasn't one to litter. It was time to figure out a plan.
Acting far more drunk than he was was part of his strategy; after all, there are a few ways to avoid detection. The most popular method is to hide in the shadows, but Enzo has his own technique of making any contact with him undesirable; he achieves so by appearing drunk. He'll spend his first few hours quickly trying to get to know everyone, giving the impression that he's been here for a long time, establishing a reputation for being perpetually drunk and blending in with the crowd by staggering over and conversing with everyone. To the casual observer, he'll appear to be the town's drunk, and their gazes will just drift away, considering him to be insignificant. Enzo stumbled down the street, heading towards the docks. He hoped the navy ship had finally disembarked so he could try to find a way off the island; if not, he was in for another day of trying to find methods to keep himself entertained.
Honey.png
The past few days had been interesting, and probably some of the most eventful for the island in some time given the sounds of the cannon fire could be heard all the way from the grey terminal. That and if the sound had not been enough of a giveaway, the flotsam and wreckage that some of the tides had brought around the coast told her that it was from more than simply some marine training drill. Regardless a battle like that would naturally attract interesting persons and with those some valuable opportunities for some even more valuable information, and even if it didn't, a bit of trouble had an appeal all of its own.
Finally arriving within the previously tranquil Village Honeydew could see at least the dock area had been transformed into a bustle of activity like the aftermath of some big skirmish, and so she did what was only natural for her and began to stick her nose into the various goings-on. Normally her first stop would have been the tavern for new rumors and faces, but as her nose picked up the scent of food she decided instead to slide in and see if the food would loosen lips as effectively as drink.
"...and the last item is the expense report. I've already condensed the summary on the last page, but if you have any questions Rear Admiral Hina, then just take a look at the notes I took on the side, ma'am."
A small sigh escaped from the lips of the aforementioned individual as she stared at the stack of papers. The pink-haired Rear Admiral leaned back against the chair and took a long puff from the cigarette. The speaker blinked a few times and looked around the room before nodding in understanding.
Biri biri biri biri biri
Biri biri biri biri biri
The snail complained for a few more seconds before the marine decided to pick up the call.
"Yes, it is...she's right here...I'll pass on the message to her." He then bowed before informing his commanding officer. "Rear Admiral Hina, there has been reports about some kind of battle between pirates and the navy. Officially, the navy had an overwhelming victory, crushing every pirate group that they came across. Now, this is strictly off the record but-"
By now it was clear that the lower-ranked marine had lost the Rear Admiral's attention. So he decided to skip most of the details for the moment and just give her the information that would most interest her.
"They also told me that Lieutenant Cero's duties were complete, so she should be arriving soon."
This news immediately brought about a positive effect on Hina as she perked up and turned her attention to the other marine.
"Did they say when they dismissed her? What about the kind of mission they put her on, what did they make her do? Also..."
The young man merely shook his head and bowed once again before replying, "I'm afraid that they didn't give out much details on that front, but I'm sure Lieutenant Cero can tell you all about it."
The pink haired female nodded, "Alright, you're free to go for now, thank you for the report." Taking another huff of the cigarette, she stared at the paperwork and muttered, "Let's see if I can finish this before she comes back."
Hina was about to inhale the stick once again before she plucked it out from her lips and gently crushed it between her fingers. She then tossed it in the garbage and sighed, "Hm, I should really stop smoking, I know that she doesn't like the scent of it..."
The large fishman simply waved his captain off taking the girls note and saying “eh!?! sorry captain, im on my way out anyways.” he said shuffling his way out while taking a long drag so as to leave as little a trail as he could only blowing out the rest once he was outside again. If he recalled correctly there was a restaurant in the small town and he began to look around for it only to find nothing…ag least until he turned his gaze up and realized the very building they were using as the infirmary was that very restaurant. “Craaaaap!!! Now im gonna have to actually fish…” he sniffed the air and immediately realized just how hungry he actually was, glancing sown at the note he assumed would be a specific request, he was pleasantly surprised to find it only asked that he bring the Captain a plate as well. He grinned before following his nose to the docks happy that kind people were constantly present to restore his faith in humanity.
His walk towards the docks was pretty uneventful the great smell beginning to grow stronger the closer he got, assuring him that he was going the right way. The wind coming off of the sea caused his coat to billow out behind him as he walked and likely helped carry the scent into town to begin with. As he approached he noticed from his higher vantage point the source of the smell. A man who wore his jacket with similarly great style was cooking some meat on a brazier. Yet he also spotted another seemingly strange sight. A green haired woman who seemed roughly the same height as him with excellent muscle definition to boot. Curiosity overwhelmed his need to be stoic and he couldnt help but head towards the docks. Sure enough the tall green haired woman seemed to have the same idea. “That smells wonderful. Would you be willing to sell some of it? I could use three servings. It you need more meat id be happy to fetch some fish for you.” he said gesturing to the gills on either side of his bulky neck.
With Mahi and his bad habit out of the way Nightengale pushed herself up off her chair and began to stretch, her body aching and cracking as she did so. With a quick peek out the door she quietly returned to the recovery area, her heels clicking loudly against the hardwood floor. Moving to Vanessa's bed Nightengale offered the girl a soft smile before crouching down aside her, Nightengale kept her arms folded politely in her lap to keep her coat from swinging to and fro as she spoke to the girl "Vanessa right. you came in with light cuts and blunt force trauma to the cranium. Nothing too severe yet I've had reports you've lost your voice. I doubt my initial assessment was wrong but if I did miss something then I must offer you my apologies. Would you mind if I took a look at your throat and chest? I'm a surgeon so if it's physical in nature I'm sure I can offer some help if it's mental though... well again I'll need to offer my apologies"
Moving back to her feet Nightengale produced a metal spatula/tongue depressor from her coat pocket, moving to also produce a bottle of rum from beneath the bed Nightengale went about disinfecting her tool while she waited for a response "Other than your voice, is anything else bothering you? Has your pain subsided? Any lingering pain or cold sweats? Your cuts seem to have healed to the point they won't reopen with ease but even if they itch please do refrain from scratching. Do they itch?"
Vanessa's eyes went wide as Mahi took her message. She wasn't expecting him to take it.
After he left, she slowly turned her attention back to Nightengale. She tried to pretend that the doctor was the only other person in the room. "M..my...th...roat...f...feels...fine," she managed to get out with her mousy voice. "I....I...." She fidgeted nervously. She could feel the gaze of the other patients.
In one quick motion, Vanessa scooped up her pencil and started to write.
I've always been this way. I feel fine.
Right now I'm more worried about what to do next. I swear I'm not a pirate...but I'm afraid of the marines. I don't think they'll believe me or understand me.
She showed Nightengale what she wrote. Vanessa looked overwhelmed as she imaged the marines interrogating her like someone on a cop show. Multiple questions a minute. Her brain overwhelmed. Barely able to write anything, if the marines even let her use her notebook and pencil at all.
Arian was focused on his cooking so much that he failed to realize that a few people gathered next to him without talking.
But upon hearing the words “Would you be willing to sell some of it?” his inner younger self, the one who remembered working in his parent's inn, woke up.
“Sure I can give ya some."
He said looking towards the source of the question, and he found a snazzy-looking fishmen was talking to him, Arian squinted his one eye a bit when looking at him and responded.
“You're the one who was fishing people out the sea I see, good. Good. Sure I will give ya some, I mean there are only five servings here. You want three, I take one but who should get the last one.”
He asked sheepishly, and not even a second later he realized someone was beside him, that was not this man he is talking to.
It was a green-haired tall and well build woman, so with a smile Arian gave a quick correction.
“Ok, now we have all the meals distributed I see. Sadly I don’t have any bowls or stuff like that on me, so it would be best we eat the meal together. And seeing you wanted three servings means you lead the way.”
The last remark was said towards the fishmen. Then he picked up his wok where the food was made, it was a meat and veggie stirfry, not the fanciest meal but a satisfying one.
“Name’s Arian. Arian Graham, now lead the way boss!”
Said half-jokingly to others, ready to follow him wherever he went to meet the other person who he saw that night from the cliff.
Returning her spatula to her coat pocket Nightengale took the notebook from Vanessa with a soft smile. As she read the note aloud Nigtengale moved to cork the rum she had opened with her free hand, laying it on the nearby table. Once she had finished reading the note she shut the notebook with a loud snap and offered it back to the girl "It would seem you're capable of rational thought, this is good news. It would appear your head has suffered no serious long-lasting effects from the concussion you received." Coughing lightly into her a balled first Nightengale moved to respond to Vanessa's worries "It's true, you should be worried about the Marines that much is a hard truth. Regardless of whether you were, are, admire or even considered the idea of being a pirate, as far as the Marines are concerned you are clearly a survivor of the battle and obviously you aren't a marine and so to them, you must be a pirate." Moving to sit at the base of the girl's bed Nightengale moved a hand to her cheek as she contemplated the situation.
"The Marines have a ship on standby at the dock, they don't seem to want to enter the town itself so you could always try to make a new life for yourself here. Although in saying that, I can't help but worry about the current conflicting views amongst the locals. With the marines docked so close and tensions rising, it's only a matter of time before the young persuade the elderly to allow the Marines entry. A standard intimidation tactic, pretty common"
Swinging one leg over the other Nightengale returned her gaze to the girl "You could always try and flee by sea when the Navy come crashing down on the town by foot. With their forces split I doubt they could man their ship effectively enough to give chase. Although that, of course, requires a ship and all the ships are currently at the docks where the Navy have set up shop." Laughing softly to herself Nightengale concluded "Huh... The more I think about it the bleaker it gets, how funny".
___ ENTER: YUICHI BOUCHARD ___
From a young boy, to a fully grown warrior, the black-haired man had wandered across the seas in search for some bit of entertainment to satiate his burning desire for adventure. It wasn't until he settled himself down onto Foosha Village that things would begin to look up for him. As he had no kind of education before hand, it was no surprise he had no idea what the HELL to truly do at the village, or even how to normally socialize with people, and so he personally decided to exclude himself from . . whatever festivities were going at the time. During this time, he had been listening extremely carefully to those he comes across. A Pirate King? One Piece? These things confused him to no end, but he eventually had to cope with it when the sound of canon fire blasted through the very air, disturbing what little peace Yuichi seemed to have found on the little isalnd. At first, it started with just simple confussion and a bit of worry, then anger and frustration, and finally just complete confusion again as the battle raged on in the distance. Whatever was going on, there was no way he was going to intervene, even if he was bored out of his mind.
Tucking his nanagi that he wore to cover (most) of his torso, he'd scamper off to find himself some place to finally get peace.
" I'm outta here. "
_________________________________________________________TWO DAYS LATER________________________________________________________
If he knew everything was gonna end up like, he would've allowed himself to die on the island he was raised on. Just what the absolute hell are these guys doing? Marines, explosions, dead bodies, complete and utter panic, and now a supposed gang of pirates domaining somewhere onto the island. While this entire thing would normally excite Yuichi, he found this display to be completely ridiculous. Which meant ALOT coming from someone like him.
Crawling out of a barrel he had set himself in for the past two days, he'd finally begin to climb back out once everything calmed back down. He was a bit of a small little bastard. Letting out a small yawn, the young man would continue on a stride around the village. What he was expecting was a bunch of corpses and dead people scattered across the place from he heard two days ago. Though there was a small bit of relief from him when he noticed the civilians were still alive, he was a bit let down at the same time. Yet again, he had to cope.
For the next few hours, he'd do as such: Walk around, get something to eat, and garner information. This all would lead to him finding out about a supposed "nurse" cattering to the unfortunate souls who managed to survive the onslaught that befell them two days ago. This would catch his interest, though not enough for him to act on it, and so, he'd just continue going about his usual business.
Vanessa scooted to the side of her bed, dangling her legs over the side. She put a hand on her cheek as she began to think. Dots blipped over her head as her brain processed all the information.
She could try to sneak away…but…
“Eek!” Her eyes went wide and the dots were replaced with an exclamation point.
What if the marines knew her face? The thought alone made her shudder. If she returned home, she’d just create more trouble for her family.
Vanessa placed a hand over her heart, closed her eyes, and took a series of breaths to calm herself down.
Once she was calmer, she opened her eyes and observed Nightingale. There was something about her that just made Vanessa more comfortable. Maybe it was because she was her doctor throughout all of this, or maybe their age difference gave her a motherly or big sister vibe; either way, Vanessa knew what she had to do.
“U…um….” Vanessa squeaked. “W…wh…what…if…I…wh…whent….with…y…ou?”
Crossing her legs back over one another in the opposite direction Nightingale began to grin ever so slightly. Turning her focus back to Vanessa she began to speak directly to the girl with a hint of concern "Went with me? Was your goal not to clear your name with the Marines?" Moving to a stand Nightengale removed her stained coat and folded it neatly over her left arm before ensuring her hair tie was still secured with her free hand "I'm afraid joining me would only make things worse for you, after all, I am the woman who saved all the pirates you find yourself surrounded by. Just aiding one pirate is a grievous offence, let alone a dozen and more still." Moving to procure herself a clean coat from a small bag near the door Nightengale redressed herself "Being associated with me will only worsen your opportunity to live a peaceful and charge-free life. Factor Mahi into the equation and joining me will ultimately doom you to at least a number of years within the confines of a labour camp."
Turning to view the girl one final time Nightengale crossed her arms over her chest "But if you so desperately wish to leave this island, you are more than welcome to join me on my ship. Get up and ready yourself if that's the case. Our window for escape is quickly approaching". With a wink, Nightengale swung open the door and made her way outside where she stood waiting for both Mahi's return and Vanessa. Her bag loosely hung over a shoulder.
The woman would keep a soft smile across her features but otherwise remain silent as more people came and went from the cooking site, her ears and eyes focused and scanning for tidbits that hooked her intrigue. She had accepted the meal with a small nod of thanks but otherwise had chosen not to speak yet, instead of putting a higher priority on adding several individuals to her little watch list, mostly non-natives and of course the Fishman who seemed quite far from home given the rarity of such a thing within the Blues. Sure she could have voiced in now and then but she personally prefered to get a solid grasp before throwing herself into the mix so to speak, though never less she did proceed onwards as the small group seemed to be taking the meals off to whatever their destination would be.
Mahi Seadricks
“Adrian huh? Pleasure to meet you. My names Mahi. Its not far just inside of town.”
he said pointing towards the town before turning to lead the way as Adrian had. “What is a fair price for the food? Ive had a couple of lucky finds fishing folks out and im sure i can pay a fair wage. Perhaps even Acquire your services for a duration.” He would ask but his gaze continued to shift back and forth between the Chef and the Green haired large woman. “You there Green haired Woman, what is your name?” he asked with a jolly but curious tone as the trio left the docks and stepped into the actual town itself.
Vanessa had already made up her mind to follow Nightingale. She didn't think she stood a chance at proving her innocents to the marines.
She froze in bed for a moment. She was stepping into unknown territory, but at least she'd have some friendly faces around. Vanessa stored up her courage and got out of the patient cot. She didn't have a lot to pack; just the clothes on her back, a notebook, and a pencil. Her backpack had been manhandled by the pirates that kidnapped her and was later ruined by sea water.
Stepping outside, Vanessa waited for Mahi to return beside Nightingale. It was just the two of them. After a brief silence, Vanessa piped up in her quiet voice. "D...do you...think w...we have...t...time to...sh...op?" she asked. She would love to get a new backpack and some more clothes. But as she thought about it, maybe shopping wasn't the best idea. She didn't have any money on her after all, and certain villagers probably wouldn't want her money if she did, thinking she was a pirate and all.
"F...forget...it..." she added, shyly fidgeting. "M...maybe at...the n...next island?"
Suddenly her stomach growled, revealing how hungry she was.
When Vanessa made her way outside Nightengale had seemingly just finished talking with an elderly man who was waving her goodby as he moved deeper into the town itself. Turning to Vanessa when she spoke Nightengale offered the girl a soft smile, a devilish twinkle in her eyes "Shopping? You want to go shopping?". Taking hold of the girls left hand Nightengale didn't hesitate to immediately take the girl up on the offer. Guiding her by the hand deeper into the small yet bustling town Nightengale and Vanessa would eventually find themselves in the market square surrounded by several small stalls filled with both everyday wares and necessities as well as luxuries and weaponry. The square was by no means packed but given the twenty-odd stands there were most definitely enough people to assign three to each, at least it seemed that way from a glance. Dropping Vanessa's hand Nightengale turned to her with a serious look on her face "Vanessa, listen to me. Not a word to Mahi. Not even so much as a hint, understood? If he finds out I went shopping unsupervised he'll have us eating raw fish and rice for the next month! Let me repeat that. Not. A. Word!"
Turning back to the mass of stalls Nightengale's eyes scanned the area in search of something very particular "Mind me asking what it is you want to buy? I went through your belongings when you came in and well... not to be rude but you don't really have much in the way of collateral"
Vanessa let out a gasp of surprise as Nightengale grabbed her arm and lead her to the market place. Before she knew it, there were all sorts of people out and about around her. "U...um..." she stammered, her face turning pink. She quickly pulled out her note book and started to write.
I'm aware of my money situation...but I'd like to get a replacement backpack and some more clothes. These are all I have.
As a fellow female, maybe the surgeon would understand about the clothes part. After showing Nightengale what she wrote, Vanessa quickly added...
Maybe another note book and some pencils or pens.
Taking the notebook from Vanessa, Nightengale read carefully and aloud. It was fortunate for Vanessa that nothing of embarrassment had been transcribed because if there was one thing Nightengale did not do, it was subtilty. After finishing Nightengale smacked the notebook gently with the back of her hand and sighed before passing it back to the girl "Unfortunately... I'm not allowed to carry money on my person..." Turning to look out at the collection of stalls Nightengale began to pout "For some reason, Mahi refuses to let me handle coin of any kind! Me, the captain! If you ask me he's stingy!". Taking hold of the girl's wrist again Nightengale whisked her off toward a second-hand clothes stall "But, seeing as Mahi isn't here... I guess I can get away with using some of the money I hid away without his knowledge... you know my 'rainy day fund'"
Arriving at the stall Nightengale exchanged a few formalities with the elderly woman manning it before getting into business. "I need a fresh set of clothes for this girl here and a bag of some description. Money is an Issu... I MEAN... do you have them?... Please?"
Laughing softly the woman behind the stall began putting together some clothing, tieing the assortment together in a bundle with some string before sliding it into a small leather backpack, sliding the item forward she smiled sweetly "Five thousand Beri dear"
Reaching into her bag Nightengale produced a small leather pouch and from it withdrew a large golden coin "Will this suffice?"
The old lady let out a small laugh before going deadly silent with a puzzled look "Dear... you do realise that that coin is worth at least twenty..."
Slamming her hands on the table Nightengale pushed the coin followed by another toward the lady "T..this has to be enough right! RIGHT!"
Moving back a few steps and with a bead of sweat forming on her forehead the old lady shook her hands "Dearie that way too..."
"I don't have any more! Please make an exception just this once!"
With a soft sigh, the elderly woman gave in and took the two coins, each worth twenty thousand Beri each and slid the bag forward to Nightengale without a word
"Thank you, I won't forget this!"
Taking the bag in hand Nightengale made her way back into the crowd with Vanessa in tow, passing her the bag of goods once they had found somewhere quiet to sit on the outskirts of the square "What a nice old lady! We could have been in quite the bind were it not for her kindness right! Anyway that's the best I could do with the money I had but when Mahi gets back I'm sure he can help get you your notebook and pencils... just don't tell him about this... k?". Smiling sweetly the captain that had just lost a hefty sum of thirty-five thousand Beri sat in ignorant bliss.
"It's Arian not Adrian. Yeah, a weird name but it's mine. Nice to meet ya Mahi. This batch of food is for free, but if you want to acquire my services then rather than pay you need to do two things for me. First, take me from this island, you probably have a way to fulfill that. The second thing you will need to do is prepare me a place to cook and resources to do so. If you fulfill them then well, you won't be able to get rid of me for a while."
Replied Arian to Mahi with a smirk on his face, while following him towards the place where they were supposed to eat with his other companions.
Looking around the area with his one working eye he tried to take as much of the scenery as he could while he was still there, carefully carrying the wok with still hot food around.
While spreading the delicious smell of his food wherever he went, and as time passed the smell of his food only grew stronger as the ingredients tried to reach a perfect harmony between them.
Not even looking back to the green-haired woman he asked.
"Dont leave people hanging lass, even I'm interested in your name. Heck, you can consider it your payment for the food if you want. Not like i would have you pay."
His interest in that lass was only a bit smaller than his interest in Mahi and his captain, and a bit bigger than him wanting to eat.
