Yes, although interacting with others is encouraged.
Doing independent RP is a thing.
But refer to Swiftshots answer for a more detailed and THIS RP focused answer.

Or check the watched threads tab in the forums section. It brings all the new activity to the top and if the title is bold and colored black, then there's stuff that was missed.
