The time has come...

1553265115975.png

The year was 1900, it was 3 months after the coronation of King Edward William. Communication from the other countries has disappeared and creatures of unimaginable terror had roam the streets. The cold air of the Night mixed with the scent of blood, the city of Oxford was disturbed by a major plague. Corpses were scattered among the streets and demons roamed the paths, looking for humans that could feed them. Only a few of Humanity has survived until now, most had been turned to demons.
A group of strangers are meeting up inside a bar, it seems...

The girl ran, her breath was heavy as she ran for her life. A huge creature had stormed in her home and destroyed what remained of it. Mary tripped and fell, making her knee receive a scratch. Tears ran across her face, she didn't understand why and how the world had transformed into this hellish nightmare. She stood up, trying to endure the pain that she feels in her right knee and limps her way inside a building, she noticed that no one was inside it. She hid inside, crying silently as she wished that this nightmare was over.

Mary was born and raised by a cult. She never knew who her parents was, nor she even knew where she was born. The only family that she had was inside the cult. She never had a life outside the walls of her home. They believed in a god. He was described as a man who bears knowledge and has created everything that has ever existed. That's what she only believed as demons killed her only family, from her peers to her seniors, none of them had survived the Defender that entered the building that they had resided in, she wondered what would happen if she were to be continued as a sacrifice, would the world be cured from this plague?

Outside of a drunken tavern stood a tall woman dressed in the garments of a nun. She would have never come to a filthy place like this, if it were not for the man that could be found here. Up until a few months ago, life had been very generous to the woman; she had been fed, cared for, appreciated, but that was all gone now. Now, the woman needed to see a certain man. She was told that this man could be found at taverns, so that is where she had to go. A woman of Camilla's lifestyle would never dare enter a stye like this, but she had very little choice.

Camilla Marino took in the cold air and slowly pushed the door open. Inside, she found what she was expecting; drunken men drinking their sorrows away. In a strange way, she pitted them. The Lord had clearly not given them an easy life, but life was getting hard for everyone. As soon as she entered, many men turned to ponder at why a nun would come to an old, rundown tavern. Scouting the building, she spotted a young girl, curling in the corner of the tavern. Her silent cry couldn't be louder.

The nun took a piece of bread and cheese from her pack and approached the girl. "Do not wallow in your sorrows. Be grateful for the life that He has given us." Camilla extended the food towards the girl, in any sort of hope that this would make her feel better.

The apprentice scientist had been hiding from demons when the wave of demons have swarmed the country of England. He regretted ever being an apprentice to Dr. Alistair as his tutoring had only brought him unfortunate events, well, there were some fortunate events but, it was mostly him having a breakthrough in magical remedies. He would still remember his words, "Ey, Pierre, come 'ere." The doctor would usually call him over for an order that he'd have to do. He was used to being ordered around by the doctor. The small man's response to the quirky doctor would always be, "On it, sir!" He missed being wih the professor, his quirks and odd habits were confusing but, fun to watch.

Pierre proceeded to enter an old bar with a hanging sign that read, The Beer Tap. When he entered the building, he saw what appears to be a nun and a small girl who is going near her. Pierre pulled up his journal and remembered a demon that would take the form of a nun, a Shapeshifter. The small man dashed towards the girl's side and pointed a sharp object at the nun, who he suspected was a demon. "Go away, you foul beast! Demons like you should be expelled from the face of the world!", he said, not knowing whether she was actually a Shapeshifter or she was a regular nun. If she were a regular nun, Pierre has embarassed himself in front of the nun and the little girl. Pierre noticed a small scratch on the girl's knee, in which he mended it until then scratch was gone.

The Norse called it Ragnarok, the Bible called it Revelations. The realists were waiting for bombs to drop, others for a plague. In the end, the apocalypse came in the form of a cataclysmic event that no one could stop.

In the midst of everything, a lone man stood tall. His face held a look of disgust, in fact he was sneering at the sight before him.

The street was --to the naked eye-- abandoned, scattered around were different stages of decay. It was in fact, very foul to see.

"Such...Filth" He said, clicking his tongue. His voice echoing through the street he was in. Up until a few months ago, he was enjoying the life of a noble but ever since those things appeared, all kind of nightmarish things happened to his life.

Clutching his gun on his hand and taking his sword, he went inside.

"What a disgusting place. It's funny how commoners have to come to this kind of place in order to have a drink. Filthy" He said, chuckling and taking a step forward. His blond hair flowing behind him. He, Nicolas William von Minerva, then entered the waste of space commoners calls a bar.

"No," Scarlett said firmly, glaring at the man as he eyed her up and down. He had collided into her and as she was helping him up, he had leaned forward and whispered an indecent proposal to her. She had half the mind to set his obviously drunk ass on fire but she stopped herself. There was a scarcity of humans these days and although the remaining society can probably do better without drunks stumbling around trying to hook up with young girls, he was still a human perfectly able to fight off the horrors in the current world...maybe...if he wasn't intoxicated. That thought, however, immediately dissipated when he reached out to her, his hands suspiciously aimed at her breasts. A small flame ignited at the tip of her finger and it took all of her willpower not to burn him to a crisp. Instead, she side stepped the man and he once again found his face in the dirt. Scarlett didn’t bother helping him up a second time. "We better not cross paths again..." she said tersely before she stepped over him.

She hurried forward, rolling her eyes when she realized that she was entering a bar. While her tattoos and how she dressed herself probably made her fit the scene, she wasn’t exactly fond of bars. It was full of drunk people trying to drown their troubles in liquor as well as some if not all women with questionable morality. She was well aware of how judgmental she was but she couldn’t care less. She was keeping her opinions to herself anyway.

As she entered the dimly lit establishment, she blinked, her eyes adjusting slowly to the darkness. She looked around distastefully at the drunken people draped over tables and chairs. For a second, she questioned why she was there, temporarily forgetting her own reasons. No, she wasn’t looking for glory or to etch her name in history books (if they still existed). No. Her real reason was that she wanted to find her adoptive father. He had gone missing five years ago. And without a body as proof of his death, she held on to that small possibility that he was somehow still alive somewhere. And if he was, she vowed she would find him. The only way to do so was to venture into the more hostile places on earth. General Conrad Lee, the man who had adopted her after Dr. Caleb Cooper disappeared, had been adamant about letting her go. But the need to find out what happened to the man she treated like her real father was too strong that the man eventually agreed. Despite the young woman's protests that she was capable of taking care of herself, the general entrusted her with Oscar Kaczmarek, a mechanical specialist. At first, Scarlett didn't think they'd get along but several months with the man and she eventually felt comfortable around him.

The first thing her eyes landed on was a nun sitting beside a child. The two stuck out like a sore thumb in the bar's usual populace. Huh, strange... she thought. What was stranger was the guy pointing a sharp object at the nun, rambling about beasts and demons.

"Guess we lucked out, O," she said over her shoulder, not really sure if the mechanical engineer was behind her but assumed that he was. She used to call him a very formal "Mr. Kaczmerak" but since she got comfortable with him, she began calling him O, saying that calling him Oscar was strange because of its similarity to her own nickname "Scar." "Some sort of event is happening," she said, nodding towards the small group.

The nun quickly stood up and took a step or two backwards. It was unfortunately true that those creatures had given nuns a slandering image and that now made it quite difficult for Camilla to be welcomed places. What was once known as a symbol of true devotion to the Lord was now seen as a demon, to be purged at all cost. The guns strapped across her back didn't do her much good either. She lowered her hand and looked at the man.

"If I were to be a demon, what use would I have for holy water? What use would I have for a gun? I have no other motive than aiding His children in the strife against mankind's sin. In the case that I were a demon, why wouldn't I merely shapeshift into any other sort of person? I am faithful to the Lord, I assure you this."

Camilla turned her attention back to the girl and offered the food once more. She had hopes that her answer was sufficient. All Camilla needed was to find this man, commission his work, and leave. Taverns were not her favorite place; far from it. She did not look down upon the tavern's patrons, like a few of her Sisters, rather, there was a slight sense of understanding between her and the people there. Those who came to drink likely had no other means of leaving their sorrows. The path they had chosen for themselves was parallel though opposite to hers.

Sigh.

At the back of the tavern sat Emil by his lonesome, head rested on the table and seemingly just staring infinitely into a half-empty glass mug.

The blonde man wasn't drunk by any means. No, he was tired. He was tired from running away from the demons that saw him. He wasn't a fighter. He was just a doctor who desperately clung to his survival instincts, armed with a simple screwdriver and nothing else. Until a couple of months ago, he was an up and coming doctor who was fresh from medical school but now? He's still a doctor. Just with a plethora of patients that aren't curable and/or dead. He should be at the hospital and helping the others right now.

But instead, he's here in a tavern. Scared of whatever demons roamed outside, trying to find and kill whatever was left of the human race.

Trying to comfort himself with a drink or two. Alone. Feeling the guilt of leaving his patients.

It's not like he didn't try to help them. He was at the hospital earlier after all, helping the nurses and other doctors deal with it all as best as he could. He just escaped for a little while to the tavern to try and calm himself from dealing with a few patients that turned into those demons today. They took poor Martha Jones. One of the best nurses and people he knew. The hospital was sort of a safe place to find refuge in though he knew they were going to run out of supplies soon enough. Thankfully enough, he has some at his apartment so he could always go back to take them if they were running low.

Emil watched as the few people that were still alive and presumably uninfected came into the tavern. There was a nun, which is surprising considering their holiness and whatnot, some little girl that probably isn't old enough to drink, fancy and handsome men. One of the men seem to be paranoid about the nun, the other one looked like a snobby boy. He's a little worried about the girl but the paranoid man seemed to know some healing magic and healed her so there's nothing for him to worry about anymore. Most of the others were just hopeless drunkards looking to forget. Like him, for example. He clenches his fist, angry at himself. People are dying and turning into horrible things and he's here sulking in a tavern among a bunch of other sulking bastards.

It isn't like him to abandon people but how is he supposed to help? One man might be able to change the world, sure. But he's a useless doctor who can't even save his patients. Just a doctor with a screwdriver. What's he gonna do? Build a cabinet at the demons?

So he takes a little sip of his drink and tries to relax.

Oscar Kaczmerak

Oscar merely watched as Red interracted with the drunk, the Polish-American engineer's focus too heavily set on the trench gun in his hands as he cleaned it. The engineer was none-too-thrilled being tasked with babysitting some general's daughter, when everyone with half a brain knew he'd be far more useful working on machines or weapons or something, but the woman proved to be decent company. After she began calling him O, he simply called her Red, because everything about her was Red, and it was easier to say when he needed something in the workshop. It was no surprise to anyone who knew Oscar that he'd be putting the woman he was tasked with guarding to work on his machines, and it certainly helped that the young american woman held fire powers, which he used for welding and melting down metals.

Oscar wiped a few chunks of gore and bone from the trench gun, as he had not too long ago blasted one of the more normal demonic creatures at point-blank range with the thing. The city was crawling with them, and there was not a single factory in sight, which could nearly drive Oscar mad. An entire, modern city with no factories, what were these British folk thinking? He knew that quite soon, he'd bring Red out somewhere else, maybe London, to find a munitions plant. He needed to get his hands on some tools and some materials, because one trench gun and a few tools weren't going to do anywhere's near enough for him in the apocalypse.

The Trench Gun was good, but he would prefer not having to be up close and personal with the demonic beasts to kill them. After all, with no oversight or higher ups breathing down his neck, he could really get into the spirit of invention, and crank something out that might prove actually useful. He could already see glimpses of the ideas floating about in his mind. Suits of armor powered by steam and magic, more advanced machine guns, and perhaps even some sort of vehicle, crawling on insect legs, with machine guns and cannons mounted to its metal hide.

The oil and blood-covered engineer stepped into the bar, shutting the door behind him, trench gun still in hand, although he kept the barrel pointed to the floor, just in case he accidentally pulled the trigger. "I wouldn't call this lucking out, Red. There's no machines here, nor anything I can use," he replied, looking around for a few moments to ensure there weren't anymore demons in here. "And some sort if situation is absolutely the last thing we need." He cared little for anyone in here, so took little notice of all their yelling and sulking. Instead, he made his way over to a table near the wall, and pulled out a set of tools, beginning to tinker with another planned invention of his.

Mary looked at a woman who approached her, she was covered in a religious garb. The little girl remembered what happened to her family, she was affected and she clearly remembered what the demon wore, the same symbol that was on her. "Eek!", She gave a small shriek as she tried to run but, a man came up to her and defended her. He proceeded to heal her leg and felt better afterwards. She was scared of the woman and decided to hide behind a small table where a man was sitting. She bumped her head on the table in a clumsy manner and held her forehead. "O-oh my! I'm sorry about that, mister." She quickly apologized as she looked up to see a man taller than her, who had white hair and seemed threatening.

The little girl was often hiding under a small table when her captors would find her and try to surprise them. She wished that her family would be more cheerful often as they would always look serious whenever they called her out of her room. Her real family was nowhere to be seen, it seems. They abandoned her at birth as she brought terrible misfortune to her parents. As an infant, Mary had a small mark near her left temple that was never explained to her on why it was there, it was already there. The cult teached her about her beliefs that she still believes in until now, her god, Atropos. She learned about her potential in magic and practiced more about the dark magic that was seeded within her. Whenever she would cast, her mark on her temple would glow a pale white. At first, the cult leaders were confused on what she had but, the main leader, Lewis Mercia, had other ideas for the girl. He planned something that would involve her.

"I see, it seems I have mistaken you for one, I am deeply sorry." The man apologized for his mistake and was screaming on the inside for being paranoid. He regretted ever pulling up his journal and analyzing the woman within a quick glance. He was a complete idiot or Dr. Alistair would say, 'A rat-head lad.' Pierre was quite sorry as he hadn't figured out the difference between a human and a Shapeshifter. He added onto his small journal, 'Note to self; never confront a nun in public with other people.' After the whole experience, he searched for some kind of thing that could help him later on. He noticed that no one was tending the bar and people were only grabbing alcoholic drinks from the barrels that were stored in the basement. Pierre took a look at the counter before the door, he saw a few rolls of bandages, a knife, and other unnoticeable items. He was still searching as he found a small plush of a Tonberry. He kept it inside of his bag, thinking of giving it to the little girl that he helped earlier. After searching, he grabbed himself a small sandwich that consisted of a slice of ham, some Whiteberry jam, and Faerie Bread slices. The flavor wasn't too spectacular as he sat on the floor. His shirt's buttons on the top was slightly open, revealing his collar bone. The cold air of the night was quite chilly for him, the moon shone a bright red.

At this point, Emil feels like sleeping right here in the tavern. As much as he wants to go back to the hospital and help, he knows that all of it is just false hope. As much as they tell the injured there that they will be fine, deep down they definitely know they aren't. And lying to them would never make them better. What use would prolonging their suffering be? It doesn't do anyone any sort of good. Lying to them is just cruel at that point.

He feels tired and he wants to go to sleep. Wouldn't do the patients any good if he was as exhausted as they were. Hopefully nobody minds.

Though just as he was about to lean back and doze off, a loud thud and a voice came from under the table.

"Oh, that's alright. I don't mind." It was the little girl.

Looking at her, he could obviously see that she was frightened. She was alone, too. Poor girl. From the looks of her, she needs comforting. Someone who could make her feel better. Like a doctor. Well, he could always go take a nap later. Someone needs help and what kind of doctor would he be if he didn't do his job and help people?

Awkwardly, he slides down from his seat and gets under the table as well. On second thought, it was probably better to just get her to sit on one of the other chairs. Emil gives her a reassuring though tired smile, lightly leaning against one of the legs of the table.

"Hello, there. My name is Emil. What's yours?"

Nicolas trot inside the bar with pride, his blond hair flowing behind him and his green eyes sharpen as he saw a couple of people, commoners by the looks of it.

He then plop himself on one of the chairs, calmly looking around, observing the people around him. His green eyes searching for something or someone.

"Commoners..." He muttered, looking at the people around him. He wouldn't have come to a filthy place like this, if he wasn't looking for comrades.

Analyzing people was one of the things his master taught him, of course it was important. As he was observing in the shadows of the bar, he saw a little girl under a table.

"A noble?" He asked to himself, the girl was wearing a dress, one that is quite popular to women with high class.

He stand up and troted toward the girl. He was about to asked her name but was cutted off as a voice filled his ear.

"Hello, my name is Emil. What's your's?" a man, younger than him, with blond hair and blue eyes said. Tired was the first thing Nicolas thought as he saw him. He was under the same table as the girl.

"I am, as well, curious about your name, girl. I am Nicolas William von Minerva, the heir of the Minerva Manor. You have quite the taste of fashion. Also quite a pleasure to meet you, Emil. Thus, I am also curious on why you two are underneath a table." Closing his eyes and tilting his head, Nicolas innocently smiled.

The girl was slightly embarrassed but, calm to the core. Mary was surprised that the man would respond to her. "Oh, that's alright. I don't mind.", he said as the little girl was happy. She gave an innocent smile to the man. Mary slightly hated how she dressed. She had a collar that was filled with roses, it restrained her dark magic from going overload but, she didn't like how it felt on her neck. Her magic had harmed and helped people at times, it was just that she didn't know how to differentiate what's good and what's not. The man who had blonde hair and blue eyes slid underneath the table and sat across her, "Hello, there. My name is Emil. What's yours?" Emil gave, to the small girl, a tired but reassuring smile.

As she was about to open her mouth, a man came up to them and looked at them. "I am, as well, curious about your name, girl. I am Nicolas William von Minerva, the heir of the Minerva Manor. You have quite the taste of fashion. Also quite a pleasure to meet you, Emil. Thus, I am also curious on why you two are underneath a table." Mary was startled and accidentally used Stop on the handsome fellow. His movement was haltered as his body froze mid-action. "O-oh my! Sorry!" The girl was quite sorry as she let some of her dark magic slip. If it was another spell besides the current one, he would have experienced more pain. "I'm quite sorry about that, my name is Mary Elizabeth Chapelle but, please, call me Mary." She bowed her head quickly to Emil but, bumped her head again on the table. She held the spot where the pain was more clear but, it wasn't too painful. She proceeded to stand up and hold the noble's hand, whose name was Nicolas, and chant a phrase. Her right temple glowed a pale white and the curse was lifted. Mary bowed her head as she was quite sorry for the event.

Eyes roaming over the streets as people of all kinds yet the same stumbled down the streets. Some drunk, some looking over their shoulder every couple seconds just in case if a demon would sneak up to them. It was quite interesting to see the behaviour of humans change just because they lived in a more dangerous world. Oddly enough, Garina was one of the few who stayed the same and accepted this way of lifestyle over the weeks. Yes, she had lost her parents to the claws of these so-called demons but it was her fault for not being there on time so she had to become stronger in order to protect those who were weak and couldn’t fend for themselves.

Licking her lips as she felt a little thirst, the perfect timing to go to some kind of bar that didn’t have too many scum inside of it. Eventually she encountered something that was called The Beer Tap. A straightforward name so that anyone who entered knew what kind of business it was. Looking at the bit of money she stole from unknowing drunkards passing by her, touching her in ways that should’ve been looked down upon just because she was wearing her more comfortable clothing. It existed out of a light harness and brown leathery pants she got from her late father. That was mixed together with some boots that were worn down yet still in a decent state to walk and run in.

Opening the door calmly only to see people hurdling around one another. More in particular, one group stood out as they were surrounding a little girl who seemed to be a little out of place. When she heard the name Mary, Garina chuckled as she recognized the name coming out of the girl’s mouth. ”My ship was called Mary, a true beauty.” Garina said without a care in the world as she walked towards the counter where she could get something to drink. ”Though she got completely destroyed during the demons’ attack. Completely smashed into smithereens.” She said, moving her thumb over her throat.

Camilla was indeed supposed to pursue kindness towards this girl, but she wasn't stupid. The nun was clearly no longer wanted at that specific conversation, so she slowly backed out. No one was really paying attention to her anyways. She sat herself down at a small table instead and began scanning the tavern for anyone she might need. Hey eyes immediately hooked onto a man in a ripped and dirtied clothes. He was fiddling with a trench gun on the table and had many different tools scattered about. If this wasn't the man who she was looking for then he was dead.

In a single, fluid motion, Camilla stood up and began walking over towards him. She took her rifle off of her back and a small coin purse off of her belt, in attempt to give this man reason to believe her plea.

As she arrived at the table, she looked at the man and calmly said, "You are the engineer Oscar, correct? I would like to commission you." Camilla set both the purse and the gun on the man's table. The coin purse wasn't necessarily heavy, but it wasn't pocket change. Giving notice to the woman sitting next to her, she gave a slight look of acknowledgment and turned her focus back to the engineer. "I need you to make me bullets. I hollow bullets that can be filled with holy water. I am willing to give you the purse and whatever is in it as payment"

It was as if time has stopped around him. His body went numb and his thoughts were blank. Nicolas couldn't move a muscle nor twitch his eye, he stood there, frozen in time.

After a brief moment of time, he breathed heavily as he felt heavy, like he didn't breathe for a long time. He looked to the little girl and examined her as he was shocked on what she did to him. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fist behind his back but, he remained his composure and was still smiling at her.

"I'm sorry, but I didn't catch your name." He carefully said, smilling a smile that didn't reached his eyes. He was angry, not angry, furious that a girl, younger and probably has less experience than him, managed to stop him.

"You know what, I bet your name's good, have a good day." He said, turning his back away from the girl. Storming away from where the girl was.

Trying to calm himself, Nicolas walked away, breathing heavily. He managed to bumped into a person. Snapping his sharp green eyes to the said person, he sneered and rolled his shoulder.

"Watch your step, commoner" He said, not even bothering to look at the person he bumped into. Going inside the back room where stuff are stored into, he observed and looked for something interesting.

Brushing his fingers gently to the shelves and barrels of beer, he looked and looked but nothing interesting caught his eyes.

Nothing interesting except for a wooden chest, hidden away from the world. As he opened the chest, his breath was taken away from what he saw. A beautiful renaissance rapier, one that is still shining in it's full glory. It wasn't rusty, nor scratched in anyway.

Nicolas looked closely at the tilt of the rapier, there written in words "William Minerva". The name was quite familiar, he couldn't just grasped who or why is it familiar. It's not because of the last name, which was alike to his. He just couldn't grasp why it was familiar to him but he figured that it must be from a distant relative.

"William Minerva?" He asked to himself. Gripping the beautiful rapier, he trusted it forward and twisted it. It was lightweight, which wasn't unusual for a rapier.

"Amazing... " he breathed out, taking the rapier and continued to examine it. "Such luck I have" he, once again, said to himself while chuckling. His eyes glinting dangerously as he looked at the rapier.

The man was getting bored as he was eating his Faerie Bread sandwich, he looked at the scenes that were happening around him. The little girl that he helped earlier is conversing with two other men that seem older than her. The nun went away and walked towards a man who seemed to be doing something with a weapon, perhaps a gun? Do guns still get produced in this part of England? He wondered where he got a gun, it could be from a remote part of England. Whatever the answer was, Pierre finished his sandwich and proceeded to stand up. He went near a window, observing the environment outside the bar. Dead trees littered the streets, wilted flowers were everywhere, corpses had been scattered among the streets. No demon was in sight though, none of them had went near the bar although, it was a blood moon. "At least a demon should have went near here by now, how odd..." According to his notes in his journal, some demons would have a stronger hunger for flesh but, none went to go near the bar. It confused him in the slightest but, he raised his guard, expecting some kind of demon that would show up. "Did they never smell the corpses near here?"

Pierre went away from the window and into the back room, behind the front counter where most of the beer was being pumped. The drunken patrons of the bar get their beer in the back room but, it wasn't too busy as of now. As he went to the back room, he bumped into a man on his way. He apologized to the fellow and bowed his head as a way of saying sorry. The man was not too happy but, he was fine. The apprentice entered the supply room of the bar. Naturally, he expected a drunk man hogging all the booze to himself but, a man was there. He was searching for something in the shelves. Pierre didn't mind him and proceeded to search in another shelf. He saw other items like a map that was torn, a crystal shard that had a low value, and other invaluable items. As he was searching, he found a small pouch that had a clip closing it. "How odd..." He opened the pouch to find two small crystals, they weren't too shabby as they emitted a blue aura. They shone like sapphires but were as mysterious as bloodstones. He felt some kind of aura that came out of the crystals. He felt relaxed as the crystal shone with beauty. "Interesting!"

He proceeded to grab his journal, trying to find any note if he ever encountered one in the past. He, fortunately for him, never encountered one. Pierre was excited to examine the crystals as they had magical properties that could be used if studied properly. He looked around to see if anyone was looking at him. When he felt that no one was looking, he put it in his pocket. He exited the room but, he noticed a locked door inside the supply room. It was out of place as it was made of metal but, it could be storing valuable items. He remembered that curiosity can kill the cat, and so he ignored the locked door and proceeded to stand near the front counter, looking at the contents of the small pouch.

Emil doesn't know what to say to this.

Being the witness of a girl momentarily stopping a person from any sort of movement, he honestly does not know what he should say. Should he ignore all of it? It seems like the more polite thing to do. Addressing it might embarrass her. Though he does find it strange how a girl like her came to know dark magic. There's no doubt in his mind that it's dark magic since elemental or light would not be able to do such things. He should make a reminder not to mess with her.

What's more concerning however- is how clumsy she is. If she keeps bumping her head into things she might get a concussion. Judging strictly from her appearance, she seems like a noble's daughter. The roses around her neck are weird but then again rich people are usually weird in his opinion. Rich people are usually all etiquette and manners and rudeness, right? This could just be the daughter of some bloke who really loves their kids. Might just be that. The guy that got stopped definitely was rudeness though.

Anyways, it's time for him to leave the confines of the underside table. Even if he does find it a strangely comforting spot.

Getting out from under the table, he bumped his head- ow -rather embarrassingly.

Now, to talk. Mary isn't an adult yet, so he shouldn't have too much difficulty. He can definitely maintain eye contact with a kid for longer than three seconds. Kids aren't that complicated. Wait, no- they are very complicated creatures. Everything is complicated and frankly he's tired. Damn it. Just talk, Emil.

"It's- um, very nice to meet you, Mary." Emil glances off to the side awkwardly as he thinks. "What's a girl like you doing alone in a place like this?" Emil asked.

"Unless you aren't alone, that is. I mean, it's always a possibility that you aren't alone but seeing as um, there isn't anyone here with you and I doubt a guardian would just let their kid wander off alone with the world in it's current state so it seems like a likely possibility. It's just- uh, um- that- you just seem- uh... Ahem. What are you doing here in a pub all by yourself?" He scratches his neck after that bit of turmoil. He'd definitely just made a fool of himself.

It was true what Oscar said. Encountering people that might actually be demons in a nondescript tavern was not lucking out. But the redhead teenager was actually referring to something that she thought wasn't boring and might provide entertainment in their bleak lives. "Well, at least it's not boring," she murmured, more to herself than to anyone else. As more people entered the bar, the firestarter fell to silence. Her dark eyes remained watchful and observant of what was going on around them. Despite being young and despite lapses that happened once in a while, she knew to be careful whenever she needed to be. And she also knew not to stray away far from Oscar. The man had countless times saved her life, she had no plans of losing it before finding her adoptive father.

She followed him to the table near the wall, sitting quietly beside him as he tinkered with his 'toys.' Letting her eyes wander, she watched the events unfold. The child that had been with a nun shrieked in a panic and ran to a nearby table where a tired looking man had probably been close to passing out. And then came the haughty looking blonde man. From the way he spoke and the way he carried himself, he was some sort of royalty that probably thought that most people were way below him. Though despite his stature, he was caught off guard by a spontaneous curse that the child casted.

She would have continued observing these people had it not been for the nun she had noticed earlier inviting herself to their table. Naturally suspicious of anyone that wan't Oscar, she stared at her, not really bothering to be discreet. As she addressed her companion and laid her gun and coin purse on their table, she raised an eyebrow. The action only meant one thing. The nun needed something from them...or at least from Oscar. When the nun gave her a look of acknowledgement, Scarlett merely looked back at her, keeping a stoic facade.

And then the request came, confirming her initial impression that the nun needed something. Her for bullets wasn't new to the redhead's ears. There had been others who made the same request.

"You'll never know how it feels like to be me, when I sit inside a room, waiting for an eternity, doing nothing but preparing yourself for the moment that you will be used for a mere sacrifice. You'll never know how it feels to be crying within the sleepless nights, searching for something that could at least give meaning to my life as fodder for the gods. Now tell me, would you want to be with me still?"

Mary said to her master, Lewis Mercia, as she was crying. She wasn't prepared to be killed for the satisfaction of the gods, it was something that she couldn't accept. She was holding a sharp candelabra, pointing it at her neck, threatening him to kill herself. She felt that something she would do, would be utterly useless since she is just a mere tool in the eyes of the apocalytes. If she was just something that is only food, how would the world outside her home treat her?

•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•

Mary was slightly happy that she wasn't too rejected by a human boy. It wasn't that she was happy because she was accepted, she was happy that the outer world was not too bad. She expected the world outside her home to be more rough, it is certainly rough but it wasn't too harsh. She thought of the demons as natural animals, controlling the population of humans as a part of the food chain, she thought. As she was thinking, a group of demons had entered the building, looking ravenous and wanting the flesh of a human. She was certainly spooked by the random encounter as she thought that the establishment was safe from them. Death was always near her, no matter how peaceful nor serene the environment was.

It seemed that the group consisted of what seems to be three ordinary-looking people that have turned to demons and one hooded figure that stood behind the trio of demons. They dashed towards the idle and drunk men and proceeded to slash at their throats, making blood spill and make pools that the hooded figure drinks in a goblet. The little girl had become frightened, she was hesitant to make any move against the group of demons. She started to run away but, Mary felt sorry for the doctor. If he knew how to fight against those creatures, she would be glad. She wanted to help with all her heart, she didn't knew how to fight. She only had curses, curses that can only harm people, not help. If she were to do any action within this moment, it could be for the best if she used a blood curse on one of them. She looked at one of the common-looking demon and proceeded to blow at it from a distance. The powder had a faint glow but, it turned to a dark red. The demon was shaking until he felt the pain no more.

His attention was diverted towards the group of people that entered the tavern. Initially, he thought nothing of them since he only took a simple glance. A group of four. Though he quickly looked back in horror as he knew just what those looks on their faces were. A glance is all he needs to know.

They weren't a normal group of people.

They were demons.

No mistaking it.

Emil knows what he must do. Though all he can do in this situation is put himself between everyone else and conjure up a barrier of light that will only hold them back temporarily. And while he hates to think of it, he'll need someone to kill them off while he holds them back. Or at least he'll need someone that can prolong that for just long enough so that the others can get out of here safely. Mary seems to have already taken a bit of action to help, so now he'll have to do his part too.

So he does what he has to do.

The doctor rushes towards the demons and raises his hand out towards them. "Holy Barrier," he mutters underneath his breath and desperately hoping his plan works. A light glow emitting from his hands as the barrier was to form in front of him and...

It didn't form.

Fuck.

There goes his current plan. It just means he needs to think of something else. Think, Emil. His best bet would be to... throw things? Yes, that is a viable plan. What can he throw? A screwdriver was all he had and that means it's what he'll use. What about afterwards? Duck under a table. Or... he could go for the much more stupid idea. Throw the table at them. Despite his looks, he's pretty strong himself. Seems like the better idea. Let's go with table throwing.

Emil quickly reaches into his right pocket, pulling out a worn screwdriver- the only thing he'd kept with him at all times since the outbreak- and continuing to throw it as hard as he possibly could at one of the demons. It promptly hit them on the side of the head and pierced through the same demon Mary hurt earlier. Somehow it's not enough to kill them but frankly, doing any sort of damage is good enough for him.

Running to one of the tables, he then promptly lifts it up alone and aims it at the group. This should be large enough to hit them all at once. So he throws the table towards them, displaying his strength and grinning as it flies towards them.

... And promptly misses by being too far right.

"This... has turned into a difficult situation."

Scarlett let her attention stray somewhere else, the deal that Oscar would eventually make with the nun all too familiar to really be of much interest to her. Dark crimson eyes instead sought out the little girl, her presence in the run down bar too strange that it made the redhead curious about who she is and why she was there. But before she could locate her, the door slammed open, announcing he arrival of what she initially thought of were drunks or worse, thugs. Thugs, of course, would have been a million times better. Boredom was immediately replaced by alertness and fear as she realized that the newcomers were not humans. "O! Demons!" she cried out a warning to her companion as she jumped to her feet. As the demons made their rampage on the nearest humans, one began to shake. What sort of spell it was that hit it, she had no time to figure out.

The familiar warmth began spreading through her body as she mustered up her magical energy. A screwdriver flew towards one of the demons, lodging itself into the demon's temple. Had it been a human, it would have caused a great degree of damage but obviously, demon anatomy is a different thing entirely. A ball of flame began forming in her right hand as a table flew through the air. It would have been a good offense had it not missed. Fueled by fear and the need to survive yet another encounter with demons, another fireball appeared in her left hand. With a sharp intake of breath, she joined both hands together, allowing her to merge her fireball into a larger one. She didn't waste time hurling it towards the hostiles.

She aimed for the injured demon, her fireball hitting it head on and luckily ricocheting to another demon nearest to it. Her primary target immediately bursted into flames. It roared in pain and flailed its arms like some sort of grotesque burning effigy. It tried to run but there was no escaping the full brunt of the potent magic. In a matter of seconds, the demon was reduced to ash. The second demon, on the other hand, writhed in the flames, heavily damaged but was somehow able to put out the fire before it completely consumed it.

The Engineer sat at his table, continuing to polish his weapon as, of all fucking things, a Nun approached him. He looked up for a moment, and did a double-take in disbelief. "Odd place for a woman of the cloth," he remarked, before she placed her gun and some coins on the table. He slid the coins back to her, shaking his head. “I don’t accept payment in coins, Miss,” he replied with a nod. “To make the bullets you want, I need a munitions plant, and your payment, would be escorting me there.” The Engineer nodded, eyeing the gun for a few moments. "Need to look at the gun, but I can do holy bullets. Done them a few times before, actually. Lots of people keep asking for this sort of thing," he replied with a slight chuckle, before nodding to her. "Deal acceted."

Red sat beside him in mostly silence during the conversation, and he didn't blame her. The girl wasn't particularly social, and he was never really the type to care or force anyone into it. Eventually, they were all forced into something regardless, as demons stepped into the establishment. Oscar let out a sigh, seeing around four of them enter as he stood up from the table, grabbing his trench gun and giving it a pump, before aiming the barrel towards the most distinctive of the demons, and pulling the trigger. The bullet went wider than expected as the creature made a sudden movement, and his bullet plasted the walking corpse's ear straight off its head. He gave the shotgun another pump and stepped forward, to shield the other people in the bar, as he took another shot. This one missed completely, blasting a hole in the door behind the demons and spraying splinters of wood into the street like shrapnel.

"Fuck, not good with the shots today." He glanced to the side, seeing Red let loose with fire into the demons, killing one and near-killing another. "Red just uh, keep on with the fire, yeah?"

The group of demons had arrived, they were looking for fresh meat. Their leader was a tall and hooded figure that stood among the squad of demons. The tall demon revealed herself to be a woman that had black eyes and a dark red mouth that spilled an oozing liquid. She proceeded to lift the bullets that missed her and shoot it back against the man who shot her. It hit the man, making him receive damage in his arm. The woman who was a demon looked at the girl who killed one of her servants. She raised a hand that came out of a portal and grabbed her, gripping her tightly, making sure that she won't let go. She made red energy enter her, giving back half of the pain that she gave to her servants. A demon proceeded to dash at the man who shot the leader. It managed to give him a small scratch, not too much that it would cause an infection.
