THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

Theryx sighed as he looked out over the enterance to the Windward Plains Base Camp. A new batch of hunters and other members of the guild were due to arrive any time now. The Guild had apparently decided the more the merrier, and were adding onto the pre-established units already here.

And some of them were rookies.

Two of said rookies were to be assigned to Avis Unit, his unit. Theryx would be in charge of them. In addition to the girl he found when they were on their way to the Forbidden Lands initially.

He was already getting a headache, either that or the weather was about to change. It was hard to tell. But he wasn't looking forward to more people poking about his business. He already had enough of the other members of the Avis Unit bothering him for details of his past, his reasoning for going on this expedition, for asking why he tends to stay away from everyone else, refuses to get close to anybody.

Oh, the ship with the new recruits were pretty close now.

He remembered having to select seikrets to send ahead a while ago, to give the rookie hunters on their way the best chance at adapting quickly to mounted hunting once they got here.

It would've been better than what he had to do, jump from the ship and hope he landed on one while being surrounded and chased by balahara, all while trying to save a little girl also running from monsters on the back of a seikret.

That didn't matter anymore, though.

Theryx whistled and Seeker ran to him, letting him on his back and then dashing towards the ship skimming over the top of the sand like it was water. He would escort the ship to just outside their Base Camp, then wait for the ship to unload and greet the new hunters of his unit. The ship itself was going to be returned to Dundorma, far back west where they came. This was a simple drop off, so hopefully the rookies wouldn't forget anything on the ship.

"Hey there! Base camp is just on the other side of that mass of fulgurite. Make sure you have everything, then I'll show you around."
Theryx greeted simply, slightly hoping his rookies would end up getting lost in camp somewhere and leave him alone.

An expedition into a foreign, somewhat uncharted and decidedly forbidden land was exactly what Asha had in mind when she thought about her career as a fledgling hunter. In her head, that was what the guild did! They went to new places, documented everything, and made things better.

With hunters, of course, being the most crucial and prestigious of roles within the guild - at least in her opinion. How could she not think that? They were the noble vanguards of every fleet, sent into the unknown to track, hunt and reserach all manners of ecological wonders both big and small, a time honored position she considered herself lucky to even be fulfilling. There was no greater honor to the ambitious black haired rookie than to bear that title, even at among the lowest ranks.

Her first impressions of the forbidden lands were, well, sandy. The region they had landed in, called the Windward Plains, already seemed to be host to all sorts of unusual geography. Tall spires dotted the rolling dunes which gradually transitioned into elaborate cave systems and the titular plains. For the most part though, the journey had been through desert, and a lot of it. She was happy for the change of scenery, and so too was her Seikret, a blue feathered raptor like creature whom she named Strix.

It came as no surprise to her that Strix was pacing restlessly now as the ship came to rest on the plains. They were nearby the base camp where she was to be stationed, and people had already began to unload the ship and begun the hustle of guild life. Always moving, always working. There was a point of pride to every bit of work they all did, and she was more than eager to begin hers.

To her understanding this was the bird's original home, and soon to be hers too. Regardless, both of them definitely wanted to stretch their legs after the long journey, and the gunner was quick to gather up her possessions - what little they were - and stow them on the bird before disembarking. A man called out to her, indicating that he would show the way to the camp and serve as their guide for the time being.

Marching over as professionally as one could with a large and rather cumbersome avian in tow behind her, she bowed in greeting before looking up to examine the man further. He had a sense of authority to him, and had no doubt seen his fair share of battles, the nature of which she did not intend to inquire at this time.

"Hello there, greetings and all that, I'm Asha. I'm supposed to report in to Avis unit, could you point me in their direction?"

She requested rather forwardly, not wanting to waste the somber looking fellow's time or her own. Behind her, Strix regarded Theryx with cold, raptorial indifference. He wasn't too keen on strangers.

A quick breath in, and a quick breath out. Some pangs of nervousness seemed to strike Tiziani as she looked out at the long rising desert hills. This was a far cry from the peaceful mountainside village she came to knew as home, and only she knows who's place she's taking on this expedition. If only they had just gone forth instead of her she wouldn't have had to-...

...Whatever, it doesn't matter anymore.. or well its too late. She'll do fine...! They had confidence in sending her out so.. clearly there was something they saw! She could only cling onto this belief, as thinking about it any harder worried her too much. Her Seikret, Fedeiro seemed to have caught onto her nervousness for most of the trip as he began to nudge Tiziani for her attention. Bright purples and aqua coloration on his feathers leaving him as unique as they come. Gently pressing his beak against the side of her head, she'd take another deep breath. "...Right.. I'll be fine! When there's a plan there's a goal." She encourages herself, running her fingers along Fedeiro's side.

Though her moment of comfort wouldn't last long as the ship slowed to a halt, and unloading began. "Ah- Crap crap crap... My weapon-!" She stammered, clambering to holster her massive lance over her back... Shield first.. then Lance... or- wait was it Lance first then shield?! The shield goes over this! I should do that after-.

After some struggling, she gets her weapon holstered around her properly, quickly gathering what small mementos she had with her and throwing it into her bag. Finally, taking a couple of rushed steps out, she emerges onto the plains of the desert. Looking up, her gaze fell upon the man just outside the ship. His words repeating in her ears as her proper greeting to the Forbidden Lands. Her head turned towards the sandswept desert and winding badlands.

"Jeez... this place is... a bit dull in its appearance.." She'd comment, noting the sheer amount of sand and dust coating nearly everything. She began heading down towards the man, who upon closer inspection looked to be.. rather reserved, even from afar she could tell. She tried to carry herself with a bit of glib ease, each step dragging just the littlest bit against the sand covered floor. Her head soon turned to the other new recruit as they both approached the man, hearing her ask the question about reporting to the Avis unit. "Oh, right! I'm supposed to report to them too." She adds giving a small nod to the other new hunter. A gunner, by the looks of it. Had she known this person was also reporting to the unit she probably would've said something on the ship ride... well no use bumming over it now.

THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

Theryx glanced between the two girls, one clearly more confident than the other.

Well this couldn't be too bad, if the Guild chose them to be shipped off here. Either that or they were so much trouble it was best to ship them off and be someone else's problem.

Theryx hoped it was the former.

Though, they seemed to be uninformed with who was greeting them, and Theryx was tempted to send them on a wild gargwa chase. He decided against it, though, as it would only mean the two girls would end up back in his hair or worse, actually lost somewhere and he'd need to track them down.

"Theryx Montaero, I'm the Lead Hunter of Avis Unit. "
He introduced himself.

"Like I said a few seconds ago, Base Camp is on the other side of that mass of fulgurite. I'll show you around."
Theryx turned Seeker around, nudging him into a brisk walk back to their Base Camp. Wouldn't do to leave the rookies behind, even though he kind of wanted to.

He dismounted at the entrance where the makeshift stables were, along with his personal tent, pitched closer to the stables than it was the rest of Base camp or the other personal tents. There was a decent gap between the two sections.

"This way, leave your seikrets here. Gemma's forge is straight ahead, provision services to the left of the forges, further back is the researchers' tent and the training room is in an alcove in the far back. Your first job is to find a place to set up your personal tents, anywhere is fine as long as it's not in the way. Any questions?"
He pointed to each of the areas mentioned with a symmetrical hand befitting that of a troverian, keeping things brief. Best to get this over with.

Asha was slightly embarrassed as the man introduced himself as the unit lead to HER unit, highlighting how little she knew about the situation. In her defense, the man hardly looked like what she imagined the leader of a hunting crew would look like. He sort of gave off the impression of a sad, soggy palamute where as she had been expecting well..something cooler?

Still, she couldn't exactly choose who she worked with, and she was sure he wasn't too awful, if anything he just gave off a sort of disinterested or unethused energy towards her and the nameless girl who was apparently also a member of Avis Unit.

As they were lead around camp, Asha was already beginning to have ideas about how to prove herself and take the lead of Avis Unit herself, thinking herself much more fit for the job than sad-eyes who guided them around, but who knew - maybe he was more competent and proficient than he appeared.

Regardless, she had received her first task and wasn't about to make any further impressions of incompetence, hitching Strix at the post outside camp and immediately setting out to find her own spot to set up her small tent. It didn't take long, and shortly she was hammering in pegs and laying out essential equipment, a routine she had practiced many times before.

When she was finished, she sat on her little camp stool and began to service her bowgun, a standard issue and unremarkable piece of equipment that she took immaculate care of despite how infrequently she actually got to use it. Hopefully, with any luck, she could change that. Soon.

Oh. This is her leader? "Oh- Tiziani Benedetto! Sorry for not being aware.. they didn't exactly give me many details.." She apologized, scratching the back of her head with her left hand. Great.. she already made a slight fool of herself.. well at least the other hunter, Asha, spoke first. She was merely.. following along!

As they set off towards the base camp, Tiziani spent some time just.. examining Theryx's face from a small distance, noting the little features down. He was their leader after all, and he didn't necessarily look the part in terms of first impressions. She couldn't tell if it was because of the scars or if his facial structure was just like that. Something to ask him about in a moment, as they've just arrived at the camp.

Gaze traveling from one side of the camp to the other, she was a bit at a loss for words. It felt busy, very busy. So many people going back and forth with different tasks and needs to attend to. She felt a bit overwhelmed, though Theryx's explanation seemed to help guide her along. Finally though, she found her opportunity to ask him.

"Right, I actually do have one, if you don't mind me asking." She began, hitching Fedeiro alongside Strix just outside at the post. She'll look for her tent spot in a moment. For now.. "So, ah. Were you given leadership roles before or after the scars?" She inquired to her leader, giving just the slightest tilt of her head at him. She wasn't really considering the possibility of sounding insensitive, this was more so just out of a genuine curiosity, which was reflected in her voice. "Because like around here is just a little... I don't know....." She starts gesturing vaguely around her face, trying to see if even she could piece together what put her off from it mid question.

The Beauty of Nature
THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

Theryx was taken a little off guard by Tiziani's question. Sure, his scars were no secret, but he wasn't expecting a question like that.

"...You'll have to be more specific. I have multiple scars around here."
He mimicked her vague gesturing.

Though, while he wanted to be mad at her for how she had asked the question, he could tell she didn't mean to be rude. If he could have patience with Raylyn purposefully being rude, he could extend that patience to a rookie hunter he was meant to lead.

"I got most of my scars as a rookie like yourself. But I didn't get my position because of my scars, I got it because I have a lot of experience with many parts of our world. I started wandering after getting my first scar."
He tapped the bridge of his nose, where the wide stretch of scar tissue was easily visible even from a distance.

"I got the other one when I was caught unaware by a barioth's tail. Broke my jaw and gave me a concussion. Don't remember much about that hunt, mostly just waking up with my jaw wired shut. Yet it still healed crooked."
Theryx grumbled the last part to himself, gently rubbing where the branching patterned scar on his jaw stretched across that side of his face. He had needed a lot of work done after that particular injury, he was lucky that he came out of it looking the way he does.

Tiziani blinks at his response. Got it when he was a rookie like her.. well that can only bode well for the future. "Ah... I suppose yeah I was referring a little more to the nose.. Do you often wear helmets cause I think one would look pretty great on you... or maybe a mask. Yeah a mask could be good, helps keep the sand out as well..." She rambled, her voice trailing off towards the end into silence. It was around this point she began to piece together how she was coming across, and tried to remedy this. "Well.. I'm sorry to hear about that.. Let's hope it doesn't happen again, right?" She gives a small, albeit awkward smile to Theryx.

Though this wouldn't last long, as her attention was soon taken to looking for a good spot for her tent. To which she rather quickly just looked at the nearest open area, located against a large rock wall just left of the provision services. "You think just like, right there would be good for the tent? ...Just your opinion I mean.. If you don't have one that's fine.. I just figured since you're the leader you might have a slightly better idea of how the flow of this camp goes and if that might "disturb" anything. Well.. actually- It's fine I can handle it." After seemingly no conversation being had, the lancer already made up her mind. Possibly to make an effort to not be completely dependent on a higher authority figure.

Marching over to the spot she declared as her tent spot, she began setting up the groundwork for the tent, placing in pegs and hammering them down. At least this was something she was familiar with, all those tents she had to set up in the mountains that'd blow away with the harsh unforgiving winds. Still seems like she's struggling a bit though.. maybe doing this with a massive lance over her back was a bad idea.

Doe stared at the roof of his tent. He idly pushed his hammock with a foot, gently swaying him back and forth. His fingers drummed anxiously against his chest. He had been here for months now, and he still didn't full understand how he ended up in this position. One minute he was researching monsters, the next minute he was being assigned to help oversee an entire research expedition in an unexplored land.
Years ago this would have been a dream job for him, but now, it felt bittersweet at best.
He didn't want this anymore. He didn't want anything anymore. He had one purpose for continuing on, to be a vessel. To fulfill one last request from his partner. Only then would he let himself rest. Only then could he feel right in seeing him again.
Gog why couldn't he be here for this? Why did he need to do this alone?
Doe sat up as he heard Theryx's muffled voice outside his tent, along with a parade of footsteps. Right. Fabius had assigned more hunters to this expedition. Some of them young and inexpirenced even. He supposed Fabius figured he would be able to handle training between his research (why Fabius was so confident in Doe's skill was beyond him).
He should go check on them, make sure Theryx isnt being too harsh on the tenderfoots. He clicked his tongue as he stood, the dark green palamute resting at his feet stood to attention, shaking his coat and sneezing before following Doe out of the tent.

Doe's straightened himself up for a moment, letting his back feel some relief from being hunched down in a tent too small for him for so long. The man stood at an intimidating 7 feet, towering over everyone in the camp, and even most of the tents. A fact he was all too aware of and comphensated for by slouching. He looked around, his gaze eventually falling on Theryx talking to a young girl he did not recognize, likely one of the new arrivals (or maybe someone he forgot, hes been doing that more since... well, he didnt wanna keep thinking about it right now). Doe walked over with a soft smile that didnt quite reach his eyes.
"You aren't giving our new folks too much trouble are you, Theryx dear?" He asked the Avis commander, turning to watch as the two girls decided on a spot to set up their tents. One of them got her tent up quickly and with little trouble, the other one however, seemed to be struggling a bit. He paused, debating whether he should go help her or to wait and see if she could figure it out on her own. It wasnt long until he couldnt stand to watch her struggle any longer. He let out a quiet, pitiful sigh before stepping over to help. "Dont worry hun, i got'chu." He said, hoisting up the first of the tent's supports like it was nothing. He pulled it till it was taut then hooked the fabric to one of the pegs Tiziani put down to ensure it wouldnt fall.

RAYLYN SANO-- HUNTER IN TRAINING
Tags: TAGS HERE

Raylyn swiped at the sweat that dampened her brow, a strand of black hair sticking to her skin. Formal training was...something she and Pyre weren't used to.
Sure, hunting small monsters and trying to fend them off on their own was practical but it was more surviving than actual training.
"Pyre,"
she called, looking down at the thick bodied palamute panting at her side,
"You okay, baby?"

The canyne looked up at her with lidded, red eyes, wagging his tail before giving her fingers a wet lick. It huffed something almost of a laugh out of her, a smile gracing her features as she wiped the slime off on her pants. Pyre was still in good spirits, that was good enough for her.
She adjusted the long white blade she was carrying on her shoulder and paused for a moment.
There were new people in the camp, women this time. Raylyn wasn't sure if that was a comfortable thing.
Theryx told her something about expecting new recruits but looking at them, she wondered if he had really meant rookies.
Or had he meant fresh meat?
Raylyn felt herself peel some of the skin off her lip and she worried it with her teeth.
No, no. He hadn't done anything...yet.
It didn't stop the cold look she was burning into the back of his head.

The Beauty of Nature
THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

Theryx blinked, slightly baffled by Tiziani's brisk response and retreat to putting up her tent. She had been asking about the scar on his nose after all, but didn't stick around to hear an answer?

Fine by him, he didn't want to answer that one anyways.

He tried to hide the faint wince from remembering where he got said scar from.

He was quickly brought out of his thoughts by Doe, who he had come to learn after several nights drinking alone in the canteen, was also a miserable man grieving the loss of their loved ones. The only difference between them was that Theryx hadn't meant to survive, and his loved ones were ripped away from him long before their time. From what he had gathered, Doe's husband had simply become too old and passed of natural causes.

Anyways, Doe was talking to him.

"Hey, I didn't send them on a wild gargwa chase like I was tempted to. They didn't even know that I'm the Lead of Avis Unit, would've been funny to watch them scramble to find me when I'm right in front of them."
He shrugged, watching Tiziani struggle for a moment before Doe took pity on her.

He would've let her struggle for a bit longer, honestly. If she had her hunting license she should know this stuff by now, and not... struggling to keep up. Raylyn was doing better than Tizi and she didn't even have a full license yet! Speaking of whom...

Theryx could feel that now-familiar glare directed to the back of his head. He turned, offering Ray a friendly -- albeit crooked -- smile that didn't quite meet his eyes.

"Hey, Raylyn. Finish up those drills i assigned you? Oh, right, these are our new rookies. That's Tiziani and that's Asha. At least try to be nice to them, please."
He pointed to the two rookies respectfully.

"Once you're both done setting up your tents we need to go to the researcher's tent, there's a formal meeting welcoming all you newbies, I guess."
He lightly shrugged.

Theryx didn't really understand all the hype around having more guild members here. It was hard enough with all the work they had to do here, let alone train and look after a bunch of rookies too.

Tiziani continued fumbling through the steps to set up the tent properly. Maybe it was her nerves, not wanting to show that she's incapable of setting up a tent, only causing her to mess up more. She eventually unlatched the shield from her arm to give her more ease while working on it. Her attention was fully on setting it up, only finally looking up to ease the tension in her neck. It was then that she realized someone new had come over, and had started giving her assistance. Not that she didn't gratefully appreciate the assistance, she just thought it was a bit.. embarrassing, receiving help with something that should be so trivial as setting up a tent.

"Oh, It's fine, I can handle it I've just been-" She trailed off, seeing as this stranger was already set on assisting her there was no point in arguing against it. With the extra help she'd quickly finish setting up her tent, letting out a sigh of relief as that display of ineptitude on her end came to a close. She'd turn to the tall figure who helped her, giving a small nod of her head. "Thank you, tall stranger. I... would've been fine but I appreciate the help." She thanked, bending down to slide her shield back on. She wasn't entirely sure if she was supposed to keep it on at all times. But leaving it equipped to her gave her the impression of importance. Like she could spring into action at any moment without any delays.

"I'm Tiziani, by the way. ..I'll try not to make a pattern of needing help." She introduced herself to him, giving a sheepish smile. A smile which wouldn't last long as Theryx's voice rang in her ears once more. A formal meeting? Well more proper introductions were in order.. but she was sort of hoping she'd get to relax for a moment. Maybe she'll get that after this.

"Right- I'm on my way then!" She called back to Theryx, turning back to the tall stranger and giving another nod before heading over to meet back up with Theryx. As she approached, she noticed a younger girl close to Theryx. She was surprised the guild would send someone as young as her out on a mission like this.. if they did. There's probably a lot more to her story than what she could parse at the moment. For now she offered a small wave to her, before bringing her attention back to the leader.

Asha was for the most part preoccupied maintaining and accounting for her own gear, meticulously laying things out in an orderly fashion that suited her, before she eventually found herself with nothing to do - which usually only lead to bad things with her.

For a while, she simply observed Tiziana and a very tall stranger work together to put up Tizi's tent, a task which took her alone much less time than it did the two of them and she was certainly nowhere near 7 feet tall. She wasn't judging, just acknowledging that "camp setup" didn't seem to be one of the talents of her companion in Avis unit.

Trying not to look overly idle, she caught the glance of Strix whom was glowering at her from across the camp, apparently quite betrayed by having been left behind at the hitching post, so she set about making another post closer to her little section of the camp..if only to please the bird.

When she was finished she went back over to retrieve Strix, who met her with an affectionate nuzzle despite the sassy gaze that initially caught her attention to begin with. On her way back to her tent, bird in tow, she heard something about a formal meeting for the new joins, and figured that's probably how she would get formally acquainted with all the members of the unit she hadn't yet met with. Asha also took passive note of what appeared to be a young girl, younger than her at least, conversing with Theryx. Theryx pointed in her direction as Asha was tying Strix to her newly made hitching post.

So it seemed her unit was comprised of a sullen looking man with very sad eyes, a nervous lancer who could almost set up a tent, a literal child and potentially, if they were lucky, a very tall looking fellow.

Asha sighed heavily, giving Strix a pat on the side, who responded with a concerned trill.

"Me too, big fella, me too."

She mumbled, making her way towards whatever this meeting entailed.

THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

As soon as his rookies got the memo of their pending meeting, Theryx turned and walked towards the large tent the researcher units used to house all of their... junk, as Theryx would call it.

It seemed the other four Units were already there and reporting. Theryx picked up his pace, coming to stand around the table with research and notes strewn across it. Couldn't they have cleaned up a little? Gog, way to make an impression... Yet again he was the one running behind because one of his rookies couldn't set up a simple tent on her own. Damn.

"Astrum Unit, Rubrum Unit, Turris Unit, Ferrum Unit, ah, there's Avis Unit. Are all your newbies accounted for?" Olivia sounded off, turning her attention to Theryx.

"Yes, my two rookies should be right behind me."
Theryx turned, severely hoping his rookies kept up with him.

"Two? I thought you had three newbies assigned to your Unit. Two rookies and a low ranker."

"... Shit. I forgot to look for the low ranker--!"
Theryx cursed, fully turning around to see if he could spot the missing hunter of his unit. They had to be around here somewhere, right? The ship was probably long gone, they had to have made it into camp and just been confused, right? They didn't go wandering out into the desert?

Silvia had taken a job to help transport and unload supplies to a new base camp. It was a simple job an almost to easy of a job. She had kept en eye on the time to make sure her companions and herself got back on that ship. But some things had to go wrong for her and she missed the moment the ship left port.

She stood there with her her palamute Raia and her palicoe holding supplies as the ship she was supposed to be on vanished out of sight. "Well I am grateful that I grabbed I stuff before we disembark. So left finish getting these crates and stuff to the places that requested the. Then we will head over to see who is in charge of the base camp"

Raia barked at at her before grabbing a small sack in her jaws while her palicoe grabbed his with a meow. After a few minutes of getting all the supplies sorted for pick up.

Silvia grabbed her person bag and holder it over her shoulder mindful of her sheathed duel blades that rest against her back and looked at her furry compilation. "Let see if we can find the person in charge of this base camp."

"We all need a little help sometimes dear, don't worry about it too much." Doe said, giving her a light pat on the shoulder. He followed her gaze to Theryx as he announced a welcoming meeting for the tenderfoots. Right. He completely forgot about that that. Doe watched Tiziani go to the main tent, but hesitated to follow. Was he really needed there? Were they going to introduce him as their boss?? He didn't want to be known as their boss. He really would rather they didn't know much about him at all honestly. He didn't want to be important. He would rather tuck himself away in a tent and riffle through his research papers. Unfortunately, as the overseer of the research commission, he needed be there, at least, he felt obligated to be. If only to make sure that the tenderfoots were properly acquainted.
But was it that important? maybe he could get away with skipping out, the unit leaders were more than capable of handling this on their own surely.

It didn't take long to have his thoughts proven wrong when he noticed another stranger wandering aimlessly around camp, someone he knew for a fact he didn't recognize (there were only two palamutes in their camp after all). Doe waved her down.
"You're one of the new hunters for our unit yes?" He asked as he got closer to the girl and her companions.

Tiziani began following Theryx towards the research tent, her eyes peering into the tent from afar. So many people from different units.. she wondered if she'd even be interacting with them much. Surely at some point her group will end up crossing paths with another during an assignment. Just an idle thought as they approached, and soon entered the tent. She'd duck slightly, making sure the top of her lance didn't get caught on the way in.

She'd give a small wave once her presence was brought up by Theryx. To say she was a little bit intimidated was an understatement. She was very intimidated. So many professional looking hunters and researchers all gathered together. She wondered how she even got convinced to go forward with this plan by her previous mentor.. she was way too out of her depth. Even the other rookie looked to be more experienced than her!

Though something would catch her ear: A third newbie?! She thought her ship only had her and Asha.. there was a third?! A low ranker too... so they were supposed to be more experienced than her.. Yet they were completely absent.

"Theryx... There's supposed to be a third new person?" She whispered to her leader before he cursed to himself. "Do you think they got lost in the plains? Our location feels a bit... secluded from sight, for better and for worse. They could've just missed it."

"I was would not say I am a new hunter but I was hired to help with dropping supplies on the last ship that just left yeah. I am Silvia and these here is ma palamute Raia and my palicoe Zuzu." She said I should introduced herself.

"Do you happen to know where I can find somebody who is in charge?"

"Oh i mean--i didn't think you were a new hunter--i mean i did i just--i uh--i meant more like are you new here to the camp--i mean not undermining your skill I'm sure you're perfectly adept erm.." Doe cleared his throat to try and disperse the awkward atmosphere he felt like he created. It didn't work. Gog he was fumbling already. Great job Doe. Brilliant response. Doe forced a grin. "Well uh, nice to meet you dear, you can just call me Doe." He said. Technically, he is the very person Silvia would be looking for if she was looking for someone in charge, but he had a feeling she would be more suited talking to one of the Unit Leaders, if he remembered correctly Silvia was... under the... Astrum Unit right..? No no it was Avis! Avis Unit was getting 3 new recruits not 2. Right. right...
Doe turn his body away from Silvia slightly, gesturing with an arm to the Main Tent. "I think you should be looking in there, You made it right in time for the welcome meeting for our new recruits!" He said. Doe put a hand on Silvia's shoulder, gently guiding her to the tent as he spoke. "Come, I'm sure they're waiting for you right now."
Assuming Silvia let Doe guide her to the tent, Doe would lift up the fabric for her, stepping aside so she could enter first.
"I believe you lost something." He said, his eyes flicking to Theryx's mildly panicked expression as he followed the abandoned low ranker into the tent. He moved to stand next to the Unit Leaders still keeping off to the side of their group. "Anyways.. Welcome all of you to the Forbidden Lands Research Commission, these are the leaders of the five units of this expedition and--ah pardon me--I will allow them to take over from here." Doe said, he dipped his head and stepped back to let the Leaders do their thing as originally intended.

THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

Theryx was about to leave the tent to go search for his unaccounted for hunter when Doe came in with said missing hunter! The relief on Theryx's face was very clear.

"Oh Gog, thanks, Doe. Seems like this one slipped through the cracks."
He turned back towards the gathered units as Doe started off the meeting.

He honestly forgot that Doe was one of the lead researchers on the commission. But anyways. They had this (dumb in Theryx's opinion) welcoming meeting.

Each Unit Lead gave a short speech to the new recruits, meant to encourage and inspire, leaving Theryx to go last.

"... Well, my fellow Lead Hunters seem to have said everything encouraging and inspiring that I could possibly think of, so I think I'll compliment those sentiments with a different tone."
He paused, looking at his newbies with tired eyes.

"The path of a Hunter isn't always a glorious one. You will have to make some hard decisions, and live with those decisions. Sometimes you will never know if what you've done was the right thing. Not only that, but this path we walk isn't all glory and valor. You likely will make mistakes, and there's a chance it will cost you everything. By accepting the role of a Hunter, you accept those possibilities, and must be prepared to face this reality. If you aren't willing to, then I'll be the first to say goodbye and send you back West with a supply caravan."
Theryx then turned and exited the tent, heading for his usual spot at the canteen.

It was a quiet, out of the way spot barely still considered part of the canteen, where he would sit by himself and drink, and people rarely bothered him.

The other Unit Leads stood a little awkwardly with a small, silent pause.

"Well, now that that's out of the way... Welcome to the research commission! We have a celebration prepared for everyone to promote good relationships and teamwork! Let's feast!" Olivia directed everyone towards the canteen where festivities and the sharing of food and drink would begin.

Asha had gathered into the tent along with the other hunters, getting a proper look at the other units and their respective leaders for the first time. They seemed to play more into the traditional idea of a hunter, and their welcoming speeches and words of greeting were inspirational and exactly what she would expect of someone in a leadership position within the guild.

Well, all except one of course.

Theryx's speech was...well, awful. Awful to listen to, awful to think about, it sounded almost like a scolding, and not at all what a bunch of newly stationed hunters would want to hear on their very first day in the camp. She could feel her fists clench when her unit leader had the audacity to end his speech with "By the way, you may die, feel free to go home if you want!" before promptly leaving the group in an awkward, palpable silence.

Of all the prospective hunters in the camp, why did SHE end up with the disappointed dad type for a leader. Still, aside from that..atrocity of a greeting, the welcome was a warm one. One thing was certain, she was absolutely famished between the journey and setting up all day - and not even she could scowl through good food and revelry amongst comrades.

Though, as she left to join said festivities at the canteen, she noticed that Theryx hadn't even hidden himself away afterwards, he had merely gone to some quiet little corner to drink away his likely numerous sorrows.

She couldn't help it, against her better judgement, not even a full day into her stay at the camp and under his command- she approached the Avis Unit Lead and folded her arms. She was going to do it.

She was going to say something stupid.

"Hey. Captain. Fearless leader. I get you might have a soggy disposition, but uh..What was that back there? I've seen Jaggi give more motivating speeches. You skip all the classes on being a good leader or something?"

She said coldly.

"Do you even want to be here? Where is your pride?"

"it's ok I get what you mean to say, I also know that words are just hard some times, also thanks for the help of show me who it is I need to speak to." she said as she watched fumble over his words. She got how he felt at that moment. Looking down at Raia and Zuzu than back that Doe. " You make take the lead"

THERYX MONTAERO - AVIS UNIT LEAD HUNTER

Theryx barely turned his head towards Asha's direction, hardly giving her acknowledgement.

"Pride will get you killed. It wasn't meant to be inspirational. It's realistic."
He scowled into his drink, hoping this would be that and she'd just walk away, leave him to drown himself in booze...

But he knew he wasn't that lucky. He never was that lucky.

"You're a rookie, what would you know anyways? Certainly, based on your behavior, not much. Any real hunter worth their salt would see what I said as fact. Nothing more, nothing less."
theryx lifted the glass to his mouth and took another swallow of the earthy, bitter-sweet beverage he used to cope.

Did he want to be here? Not really, but he didn't really want to be anywhere. Here is as good as place as any of he didn't have the choice. And he really didn't.

The lancer stood attentively, listening to every different welcoming speech each of the leaders had ready. All of them giving her a feeling of relief. This wasn't gonna be so bad! It'll be a tough road, but she'll be able to get by. Heh, maybe her mentor really did have a plan with this. That was.. until it was Theryx's turn.. her leader. The look on her face as he spoke went from a mixture of positivity and relief to.. a bit of unease, refusing to even make eye contact with him as she looked off to the side.

This was her leader, huh? Every other leader seemed more inclined to motivate! Or give some words to excite her, soothe the nerves! While her own leader seemed more bent to intimidate her out of even being here.. and it was almost working. Tiziani hesitated, her gaze only finally lifting back up as Olivia officially welcomed them and announced the feast. She tried her best to give a smile alongside the group, to show that she's in good spirits. But she definitely felt rattled from that speech.

As she moved along with the group towards the canteen, she attempted to just mingle with the others. A few "hey's" and a few forced laughs only served to distract her. She looked over to the other side of the canteen, seeing Theryx in his corner with a seemingly upset Asha there. Maybe she should be more vocal to him about that too. Surely if both newbie's were upset at him he'd maybe apologize for saying those words..

But maybe Theryx had a point as well. Nobody knows it as well as she does.. she's more than out of her element here.. but that's also why she even came here in the first place! Gah..! ...There's no point in mulling over this for the rest of the day. But it's a big deal at the same time. So many conflicting thoughts spinning through her head, almost makes her want to drink it all away.. almost. For now she keeps her head down, focused on her meal in quiet contemplation.

Asha was only growing more frustrated with the man as he continued to speak, each jaded word fueling the fires of her disdain as she tried to figure a way to reason with Theryx.

"Don't think I'm so naive to not know the difference between pride and hubris. Not having confidence or pride in your own abilities is just as likely to get you killed."

She was surprised at how eloquently she was putting this, considering she kind of just wanted to kick him in the head for being an idiot.

"Or disfigured."

She added spitefully, obviously referring to his scars. His refusal to answer her last question told her all she needed to know, and she just shook her head. She didn't want to humor this line of reasoning any further, and managed to pull herself away from the sad drunk before she said or did anything really stupid.

She needed food, drink, and some friends she could trust. Preferably ones with a spine, or at least a little enthusiasm. Looking around the canteen at all the unfamiliar faces..

Well, Tizi would just have to do.

She brought her food over to sit with the fellow avis unit rookie, wasting no time with eating her frustrations away before speaking to the Lancer.

"Some speech from our brave leader, huh? Can you believe that guy?"

She wanted to be over it, really, but maybe this was her way of coping. The delicious food was definitely helping. In her heart, she kind of just hoped Theryx was having an off day and tomorrow would be different.
