Locals start
The morning started out the same as the afternoon is starting. Wet, cold, and generally miserable outside. There was something in the air, however... September had just ended, and October was just kicking up. The youth in school were just letting out about now, while most 9-5 job workers still had three hours to go.

But there was a tense feeling in the air. Residents older than fifty-five have started setting out buckets on their front porch. The local hardware store was constantly running out of stock, and the marketplace was running low as well. Locals were aware of the town legend, but it seemed as if those who might have been around to witness it in their youth were starting to prepare for the apocalypse.

Or perhaps you were imagining things.

Fandom Start
Wherever you were, whatever you were doing, somehow it was all gone now. You found yourself in the woods, or in a small town square, or on the front porch of someone's house. It didn't matter where you wound up, just that you somehow found yourself standing in a gentle rain. If you had to guess the time, it'd be about mid day. There weren't very many people around you. Heck, you might even be the only person around.

If you had any, you'd notice that your powers and/or gadgets were missing. What you do from here is up to you.

Percy
It was another rainy day. Percy sat by his school window, watching the slight drizzle as his teacher finished his lecture, which Percy had already recorded. He turned around, right as the clock struck 2:25, and the bell rang for his class. He quickly grabbed his backpack and headed towards the door. Percy sighed. Today has been another uneventful day, and he was glad he didn't have swimming practice on a day like this. He pushed open the front doors of the school, and began his walk to his house, past the woods that seperated the two buildings. He sure wished something interesting would happen nowadays. Of well. He'd just go home and watch sons Doctor whilst doing his homework, after all.

Bunta Fujiwara
As the drizzling rain drops down to the ground. Bunta was asleep soundly. Without realizing he was resting his head on a steering wheel. Bunta rose his head up as he woke up. Unlike any normal person he didn't act surprised when woke up inside his legendary car which is the Sprinter panda trueno ae86 or 86 in short.
hqdefault.jpg
speeding-3b-initial-d.jpg
"Hmm? This isn't Akina." Bunta said calmly to himself. noticed he was on a smooth concrete/asphalt road on the side of a small neighborhood. The last thing he remembered he was drifting with yuichi but he didn't remember anything after that. It was all blank. He stared to his side to check if his friend is still with him. Only to realize he's not there anymore. He looked at his cigarette pack and wondered to himself if he was smoking something else to end up in this neighborhood. "Am i smoking to hard?" He asked himself. He just shrugged it off and looked around his car. He noticed that the keys are still in place and his gas is full. Strange... But the car is off. Curious on where he is he decided to go for a small drive around the neighborhood to ask for some questions. He turned the car on, it's engine's revving up, the pop-up headlights shining through drizzling rain. He kept his speed around 15 for safety purposes and faster braking.

Callie Santos

Curled up with a book, Callie found her gaze directed instead to the rain splashing down outside, the gentle pattering far more relaxing than her Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne book. She knew forest fires were done for the season but the rain was the final nail in the coffin of the hot season. Her muscles were still a bit weary despite a week of great sleep since coming back from the John Day fires up in Oregon.

More than ever, she realized how great it was to no longer have school. To not have anything in her way for October or at all until next summer. A faint smile lit her face before fading. So much free time had already paled a bit, just in a week. She needed a job. Or something. Anything. Even video games and books got boring if that's all one did.

Setting her book aside, she walked outside of her family home and leaned against a rail of the porch, watching it rain. Her family's house was tucked away in the trees, off the main road. Lots of privacy, lots of forest, lots of wildlife. Her parents were in town and her older brothers had already taken this season's fire money and lit off to LA or somewhere bigger to start spending it.

"I need a life," she said with a sigh, watching it rain, arms folded across her body and hugging her red sweater for a bit more warmth.

The Doctor

As Percy made his way from school to home, he happened across a rather gangly young man wearing a rather old-fashioned suit, vest and bowtie all of a surprisingly drab brown color. For the fall season, it blended right in with the leaves and trees.

The Doctor stood there by the side of the road, looking a bit perplexed. Possibly a great deal perplexed. His eyes landed on Percy as he happened by and, with one exaggerated stride, the bow-tie wearing man practically hopped into a walking pace at the teenager's side.

"Hello there. Lovely town, this. The trees, the forest, the..." a particularly fat raindrop splashed the man right in the left eye, causing him to blink furiously. "...The, ah, rain. Very nice. Good touch. Tastes like..." He stuck his tongue out, let a rain drop fall on it, and smacked his lips several times. "Ah, 2017? No? It's October, though, isn't it. October on Earth. I quite like Earth! ...Usually."

As he ambled on, the Doctor stuck his hands in his pockets and somewhat nonchalantly said, "Don't suppose you could tell me where exactly this is?"

Nova sighed, turning her head to face the rain. It wasn't supposed to rain this early in the year... perhaps this year was going to be heavy in precipitation. That was just fine with her. Nova loved the rain. She loved curling up in big bay windows with pillows and coffee and a good book or her laptop or perhaps even a video game... She sighed, imagining it now. It was her happy place, and she was lucky enough to have it in real life, as opposed to most people who could only imagine it. Stepping onto the sidewalk out front the school, she opened up her dark blue umbrella and started making her way home. She lived a little ways outside of town, but by now she was used to the walk. It was a mostly downhill walk, and she got to watch the water pooling and running down the slope with her as she walked along the road. Perhaps she'd stop at the market and pick up a treat on her way...?

Lifting the edge of the umbrella, Frisk found themselves no longer in the Underground, stuck under a mountain with an underground river falling over them in the form of some weird rain. This was real, honest rain. Tilting their narrow eyes towards the sky, Frisk stuck a hand outside their sleeve to catch a few raindrops in their palm. The ground under them was wet, but compact, like someone had been here recently, or this was a path. Turning around, Frisk noticed a house, with someone on the front porch. Not a monster, but an actual human being. There hadn't been any kind of announcement of Frisk arriving - no flash of light, no sci-fi sound. It was as if one second there was no one standing in Callie's driveway, the next, there was a kid in a blue and pink striped sweater with a bright red umbrella. Frisk tilted their head at Callie, waving slightly with a faint smile. Might as well make friends for now.

Callie Santos

The gentle pitter-patter of the rain soothed the young firefighter as she rested her elbows on the railing of her porch. She never tired of how the forest smelled when wet, especially right after the rain started. That sharp, bracing scent that filled the nose. Callie contemplated going for an umbrella and taking a walk, or maybe just throwing on a windbreaker and ignoring the wet like some people did.

As she surveyed her family's property, pondering which of half a dozen game trails to take for a little hike, her eyes landed on Frisk. A blue and pink striped sweater stood out. So did a bright red umbrella. Most people who lived around town dressed a little more low-key, except for some of the students. Then again, the kid out there was just that; a kid.
...did he walk here? The property was a mile or so away from the road, and the road itself was a long way from a lot of places. It was a ten minute drive to reach anything that wasn't someone else's property, longer on bike, and this kid didn't have either. She'd almost think they were up to no good, if there were more of them and if this one wasn't so conspicuously dressed.

"Hey!" she called out, stepping out into the rain. Sheltering her head with one arm, Callie hurried along, thankful that her red sweater was thick enough to shrug aside light raindrops for now. Approaching Frisk, she slowed and tilted her head down to study the kid. Up close, kinda hard to tell if they were a boy or girl. So she settled for a "Hey buddy, whatcha doing here? You know this is the Santos property? Were you looking for my father?" She paused and once more looked past the kid, down the driveway. No sign of traffic. "How'd you get here anyway?"

Percy
No effing way. At first Percy had simply thought this man was a little extravagant, but as time passed and Percy studied his appearance, he realized who he was talking to. The Doctor. Percy, of course, did not want to act strange and
turn the Doctor off to someone else for help, so he answered the questions the best he could. "Um...Yeah the rain is a bit tedious...but...uh,... oh! Your on Earth, yes. October. You're actually in the quiet little town, called Eagle Pines, Doctor." Percy realized two things, first, he had been looking dumbfounded at the Doctor whilst talking, and second, had accidentally said his name, without the man first introducing it. Percy had also stopped walking in the small rain, his eyes wide and is hands over his mouth.

Light Yagami
Well, this was interesting. After walking out of his room, Light had somehow ended up in front of a sidewalk, though he had no knowledge of how so. HIs clothes were the same, and he reached inside his school blazer, and pulled out the Death Note, making sure it was the real thing. Yep, no detail wrong. Maybe L had finally decided to go too far, and kidnapped Light, drugged him, and put him here as a test. The people hat would soon walk into him would most likely be in on it, and since he had no bugs on his clothes, he had to act natural, so he must be very careful. Light looked to his left, and saw an apple tree, and actually stepping off the sidewalk quickly, picking one, and stepping back on. Ryuk would like this very much after... Light turned violently, to see no smiling face of his usual lingering god of death. This was very strange. But no time for worrying about this. Whoever Light met first, he would get their name, then make them act as if everything was normal, then die accidentally. Light straightened his red tie, held the apple in one hand, and his pen and Death Note walking towards him.
This was it.
"Hello, there. Sorry to bother you, but could you please tell me where I happen t be at the moment?"
Whilst waiting for a response, Light took a bite from his apple, his right hand clutching the pen in his pocket.

The Doctor

"Right, Eagle Pines. Of course. Makes sense." The Doctor ambled on another few feet before realizing his walking partner had stopped. Perhaps because he was an alien, perhaps because this regeneration was just a little off, the Time Lord couldn't just turn around like a normal person. Instead, he abruptly halted and spun, arms flailing slightly before settling into a somewhat dignified pose, fingers clasping the fronts of his suit coat in a manner of respectability.

"Twelve places on Earth called Eagle Pines about this time, only two of them called that in English which I presume we're speaking and judging by the climate and the fact you're obviously an American that puts this in California, doesn't it? Which isn't the most interesting thing at all. No. You know who I am."

The Doctor stalked forward, head bent, eyes peering at Percy in an almost predatory curiosity. He abruptly snapped out a pair of eyeglasses, slipped them on and peered harder, stopping only a foot away from Percy. A moment of scrutiny passed silently. Then he abruptly grinned, straightened and offered his hand.

"Haven't met you yet, my young friend, so no spoilers please. Compared to the last time we met for you, second time we met for me including this first one, I'm sans Tardis, sans sonic and sans a fez. Lamentable situation, especially on that last point, though having a lovely word like sans somewhat makes up for it. So I suppose the obvious question is: Why am I here?"

Once more, the hard peering began. "You didn't have something to do with me being here, did you?"

Percy
Percy had gotten out of his surprised stupor, certain this man was the one he had cheered on and adored for years. So, in spite of that, he decided the best thing to do was confuse him, as the Doctor hated being confused. Regaining his composure, Percy began to speak.
"Yes, we are in California. And yes, I do know quite a bit about you Doctor."
Percy closed his eyes, and continued, "Ever since you "borrowed" that machine, or as it likes to think, "borrowed" you, you have certainly gone on and done quite a bit. World War Two, Paris, Venice. You've met people who became your friends and companions, all the way from Barbera to Amy, to a certain impossible girl. And you've even saved the universe a countless number of times, the only example needed could be, say, The Medusa Cascade?"
Percy opened his eyes and continued walking, "and yet, we've never met in person. And yes, there were no spoilers in there. After all, rule 530, dont give away things to happen. At least I didn't break rule one too, or run off."

Jack Jackson

Its just another normal day for the young man, walking home from school while holding the hands of her younger sister. It was another day for him, but hell, he likes simpler things than special. Call him a dull man, but he is born this way. Just then, his sister spoke, wanting to buy something to snack on before heading home. Jack sighed and he takes his sister to the supermarket to go buy some snacks on the way home.

Tilting their head the other way in a show of curiousness, Frisk watched the approaching Callie. She spouted questions, something about this place belonging to someone, or a group of someones. Frisk knew it was rude to barge into someone's property without permission, but this lady had come out in the rain to see Frisk. The least they could do was raise the umbrella they held to accommodate Callie as well. Frisk had to only be twelve at the oldest, perhaps ten was more likely. Old enough to make their own decisions, but not old enough to have the most sound reasoning.

Shaking their head, Frisk continued. "I'm lost, ma'am," their voice was young and rather squeaky, but quiet, barely audible over the rain on the umbrella. It wasn't distinguishable even from their voice what their gender was. "Don't know how I got here, or where here is." When they spoke, they were concise and to the point, almost to the point of being grammatically incorrect for the sake of not talking for long.

Pausing, Nova turned to view someone stepping into the community garden and picking an apple off a tree. Sure, it was getting near season, and that was a community garden, but to just pick an apple...? Who even allowed the town's main export to grow outside of the orchards? That was a recipe for an economic disaster. Wait. The guy with the apple turned to her, and instantly she felt her blood chill. The notebook, the outfit, the face... "... Eagle Pines, California, United States..." She looked like she was about to bolt, clearly recognizing the most deadly Death Note user to ever exist within his canon.

She paused, before continuing. "I'm sorry, are you really Light Yagami?" she asked, before blushing. "Oh, sorry, sorry, I just... I thought.. I'm sorry, that was an awkward question..." Immediately, Nova attempted to backpedal out of her question, turning to head the other way down the street away from the store she was almost to, only to see Jack and his sister walking her way. Shit. No, this was very bad. If this was the real deal Light, and Nova wasn't just having a very convoluted fantasy or annoying an amazing cosplayer she had never met before... She needed to keep him from killing innocent people. Woah, this sounded like a really juicy fanfiction she should write one day... if only she wasn't living it.

Light
Yep, this girl knew something. After seemingly recognizing him, she was kind of awkwardly back pedaling. Light took a bite from the apple he was holding, and took the pen from his pocket, knowing that he had to act sincere. "Excuse me?" Light said running up to the girl again. "If I really am in the U.S.A, I am extremely lost." He pulled out a scrap of paper and his pencil. "Could you tell me your name, so that I could have reference to find my way out?"

Vincent King
As October finally rolled in, Vincent sighed, this seemed like it was going to be a mashup of the same ghost stories thrown and spit around like, monkeys throwing their own shit. But when he took looks around, he could feel there was some tension in the air, call it superstitions, but it was a bit of his intuition at work, he couldn't tell what it was, but people seemed a bit jumpier than usual. ESPECIALLY those around 55 or older, who looked as if they were about to die and were fearing for that inevitability and trying to prepare somehow.

With that reality, Vincent was tasked with just subtly and overtly trying to figure out what was spooking the populace. Before he could get to anyone, though he went by and saw a young man who looked Asian who most definitely didn't look like he was from Eagle Pines based on Vincent's memory which was quite good, and a teenage girl someone Vincent know's has seen before, high school age who had a mystery of emotions plastered on her face, she looked nervous, with a hint of regret, probably something she said that dawned on her, but also fascination? Nonetheless, something felt off and Vincent needed to make sure things were ok.

So Vincent walked over, and plainly addressed the two of them, but adding the last part addressing it to Light. "Hey, is everything alright over here? You look like you are lost, and I don't think I have ever seen you around here before." Coming in closer something seemed tense about the situation, it probably was actually for the better he came by over, hopefully the mood would calm down a bit.

Nova let out a sharp laugh, something more of a nervous squeak. "No, thanks," she said through clenched teeth, wide in a smile to match her wide eyes, wide in both fear and something along the lines of excitement. She still couldn't tell if this was for real or not. "Yeah, I don't really want to die today." She had started to visibly shrink away when Vincent came over. Her face immediately brightened. "Hi, detective," her voice took on a more singsong tone, though still obviously nervous and internally freaking out. "Mr. Yagami here seems a bit lost. Where did you say you were supposed to be going to, sir?" she asked, posing the question to Light. Perhaps if she kept the questions rolling, he wouldn't have time to ask their names in return.

Callie Santos

When the kid covered her with their umbrella, Callie chuckled and crouched down a little to fit beneath without exposing them to the rain. The dry summer yielded a land that eagerly soaked up the water so it left the driveway in a 'wet but not muddy' state, which she certainly appreciated. Dropped down on her haunches, the older girl studied the kid maybe half her age, maybe more. They didn't look familiar.

"Wow, lost out here? Well, you'd better come in. We can get you dry at least and warmed up while we figure out where your parents are. Come on, follow me."

If Frisk needed the encouragement, Callie went as far as taking their hand in hers and encouraging them on to the front door of her house. The interior of the Santos' residence was comfortable, in an old-fashioned-but-obviously-new log-cabin look. She pointed Frisk over to a couch and plopped into a stuffed, leather-bound chair before bouncing right back to her feet. "Hey, you want anything? A soda, hot chocolate, something to eat?" Callie scooped her smart phone out from a pocket and thumbed up the dial menu. "And what's your parent's number?"

The Doctor

The TIme Lord absorbed Percy's incredible series of revelations with a stoic face, brow furrowed in deep thought, making him look vastly older than his twenty year old appearance would suggest.

"Well, you certainly know a great deal, don't you. More than you ought to. Had a look into the Black Archive maybe? No, not a teenager, not a Californian teenager anyway. An Eternal? Could be but all that was awfully Earth-specific. That and you don't look bored enough. Psychic? Mmmm, possibly." The Doctor reached into his coat pocket and came out with...nothing. He scratched the back of his head and abruptly looked sheepish. "Right, well, nice to see someone's been paying attention. Speaking of paying attention..."

Once more, the Doctor loomed close to Percy as they resumed walking. "Anything else odd turn up lately? Eyes like yours, surely you'd have seen something else if there was something else to see. How about it, what's new in Eagle Pines? And where are we walking to, anyway? Do they have scones? Love a good scone, now and then."

Light now knew for sure this girl understood who he was, and what he could do. This detective could be working with L, so he was to be careful from here on. "A detective huh? Well, nice to meet you!" Light held out his hand, thinking that he should have gotten those Shinigami eyes. "And the pleasure is for whom?" If light got this guys name, he could get info about L, as well as the name of this girl. Light looked at the girl, and as a hand grabbed her from behind, pulling her back. Light turned....

To see L. He had been eating a sundae in one of his various hotel rooms, and had blinked to appear here. He had first thought to be kidnapped by Kira or an associate of his, and his Appearence of Light proved his theories. He knew that if he suspected was true, he must keep Light from learning these people's names, lest there be more accidents.

Frisk nodded in agreement - getting out of the rain would be a good idea. They realized that at some point they'd have to return underground and return the umbrella, as it technically wasn't theirs. Gladly allowing their hand to be taken in the older human's, Frisk was led inside. the house looked surprisingly lush, at least compared to what Frisk was used to seeing. Folding the umbrella and leaving it to drip just outside the door, Frisk took a moment to kick off their muddy shoes, not wanting to track dirt through the nice house. Frisk had never been told to do so, not in their own home and certainly not by anyone else who had invited them in, but it was Frisk's own gentle and considerate nature that prompted them to be careful of their own dirt.

"Chocolate," the word came out of Frisk's mouth before they even realized they were saying it. There was a stark change in Frisk's disposition when asking for chocolate - their voice was much louder for one, and sounded somewhat more demanding. Frisk, of course, had a few pieces of candy shoved in their pockets, but something prompted them to ask for a hot chocolate. Perhaps it was the voice in their head that seemed to like to narrate everything they do, but a hot chocolate seemed the obvious choice when not offered tea. "Hot chocolate, please," Frisk stated again in a much quieter voice, returning to their prior disposition of sweet and quiet. Climbing up onto the couch, Frisk nestled down in the corner between the back and the arm. They looked about, which was hard for anyone to actually witness, given how Frisk seemed to hardly open their eyes.

When prompted for their parents' phone number, Frisk simply shook their head. "No parents."

Yelping loudly, and drawing the attention of most everyone currently within a block of her, Nova whirled on the hand that grabbed her to find L. She pressed a hand to her face and gave an exasperated sigh. "Oh my fucking God... Don't just walk up to someone and yank them backwards. For crying out loud, what if I though you were gonna attack me?" Nova was all but restraining herself from yelling at L. "Seriously." Looking between L and Kira, Nova had a sinking feeling this was going to be a long day. "Okay. Here's a quick fact check - I know who both of you are. As for why you're here, that's kinda up in the air. Feel free to take a whack at it. Now we can either settle this like children, or we can be adults about this." Nova wasn't usually one to take charge, so she was going off a rush of adrenaline. It would come down soon, so they needed to progress beforehand.

Turning to Vincent, she continued. "We should probably talk about this in a much quieter location. My place?" Of course, by quiet, she meant a place that was less filled with paranoid locals and ever-watchful tourists who happened to be in town for the apple harvest. It would also be nice to get inside, given how Nova had dropped her umbrella, and pretty much everyone else without one might as well be soaked by now. Her question also implied they should get in Vincent's car, if he had one, to make getting there faster.

Yelping loudly, and drawing the attention of most everyone currently within a block of her, Nova whirled on the hand that grabbed her to find L. She pressed a hand to her face and gave an exasperated sigh. "Oh my fucking God... Don't just walk up to someone and yank them backwards. Vincent King
As Vincent approached, he took note of the teenage girl's nervous laugh which definitely did sound more like a nervous shriek, which made him a lot more suspicious of Light. He noted it had to do with when he took out that piece of paper and pencil, she added a comment that Vincent missed though but it definitely looked like that girl was in distress being around him.

Vincent rolled his eyes when the teen brought up the fact he was a detective, and then suddenly it seemed as if Light's attention had seemingly encapsulated on Vincent, as now Light wanted to get to know Vincent. Seemingly trying to be nice, with trying to exchange a handshake, but Vincent wasn't in a bullshit mood right now, and didn't return the offer for shaking his hand.

Then asking him for his name Vincent was about to sarcastically tell him off, and try to get back down to business, when suddenly in the corner of his eye, a hand grabbed the teen, and pulled her back, at first expecting a hostage like situation or taking her away quickly, Vincent was about to reach for his firearm, when he realized it was meant to be a defensive move against Light to get her out of any harms way, and then he realized that the man was pretty much a sickly looking man, and that brought up many more questions, but Vincent needed to take control of the situation again without causing an incident. But Nova ended up speaking before him, and dominated the situation stating she knew the two individuals which deeply confused Vincent for the reason of being out of the know. (I myself am in the know, and love Death Note, yay) and she asked to go somewhere else to talk. "Wait, you plan on leaving those two behind, you supposedly say you 'know'."

Rick and Morty
As Rick and Morty were on yet another crazy adventure on some random planet, in some random dimension, and were about to head back, when suddenly without any explanation, there was a flash and the two ended up most definitely not where they intended to end up. "Oh you have got to be shitting me..." Rick stated with an annoyed tone, which ended up concerning Morty. "Oh, wha-wha-what's going on Rick?" "Are you really that blind, M-M-Morty, we aren't in our Dime*urrp*nsion and there was a r-random flash of light... Also, apparently the damn flash stole my po*uurp*rtal gun, so un-un-until we find either my portal gun, or some other way out of here, we are stuck here. Let's go Morty." Added in a matter of fact annoyed tone, that was such a staple of Rick. Which of course scared Morty as it appeared there was no chance of getting home. "Oh, jeez Rick, we-we-we've really gotten into a real shi-shitty situation now, how are we going to get home now?!? Hey Rick! Yo-you aren't taking this seriously!" This was due to the fact that Rick actually was plainly now taking a sip of his flask. "Morty, be-believe me I think this situation is annoying, but alcohol is the elixir of men and women who need to calm down and do things fine. Ooh, looks like we stumbled on a multifandom RP Morty, the Doctor Who fanboys brought in the Doctor. 'Eyyy have any idea where the fuck we are? We are lost so*uurp*ls having been brought here by a flash, and it apparently took m-my portal gun, do you have your TA*urrp*RDIS here to help us?"

Jack Jackson

The young boy's sister returned with a bunch of snacks, and after paying them up, they went out of the supermarket. It took them sometime before they finally made it home. Jack stores the snacks on the kitchen's drawers before proceeding to go up to his room...only to find a beautiful Japanese woman laying on the bed with a smoking pipe on her mouth. Jack was going to say something, but the woman notices him and throws a pillow at his face.

"Get out." Says Baiken, and Jack awkwardly leaves before rushing for the telephone and call the police.

Callie Santos

While Frisk's politeness about not tracking muddy feet through the house was considerate, it's obvious that Callie had no such qualms. Granted, her runners weren't much more than damp as she'd only walked down the driveway to meet the kid who'd appeared there. But she tracked wet prints across the floor without giving it a second thought.

At the mention of the word 'Chocolate', Callie grinned and refilled her Keurig machine. Rather than use a hot chocolate pod, though, she fetched a small steel canister with a sealed lid down from a shelf and poured an ample amount into the bottom of a large handled mug. Sticking it under the Keurig, she cleared an old coffee pod out and tapped a button to dispense hot water to stir in. "Hey, marshmallows or no? Tell me how many." And depending on Frisk's answer, she dropped a number on top once she finished stirring the mixture completely. "Uh, I guess they make this stuff with milk but I've never liked it that way and honestly have no idea how to make it with milk so I hope this is okay."

She passed over the mug and flopped back into her leather-bound chair, eyeing the visiting kid speculatively while they got the mug settled. "So, no parents, huh? Sounds rough. How'd you get here then? I mean, where are you from? Do you know anyone around here? Do you have, like, foster parents or someone who looks after you that you can call? Friend of the family?"

"By the way, I'm Callie. Callie Santos."
