The Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) is a robotic astronomical survey and early warning system optimized for detecting smaller near-Earth objects a few weeks to days before they impact Earth.

The B612 Foundation, a California-based nonprofit organization that focuses on tracking objects in the solar system and protecting the planet from near-Earth asteroids said its newly developed platform, known as Asteroid Discovery Analysis and Mapping, or ADAM, is an open-source, cloud-based system that allows researchers to detect newfound asteroids without needing to gather additional astronomical observations or launch a novel asteroid-hunting telescope.

Various systems around the planet began detecting a swarm of large objects almost simultaneously. There were dozens, each around a 1 megaton displacement in size, plus many more smaller ones. They appeared to be making a close pass by Earth, but were travelling at extrasolar velocities of around 25 psol about 400 million miles out. Less than half an hour later they began to decelerate at 500 THOUSAND G’s in formation,

About 11 hours later the alien fleet began to slow its deceleration so that most of the fleet entered an orbit half a million miles out. A single ship continued on to Earth. As it approached it began brodcasting in every language of 1st world nations, those whose voices had reached into the heavens. It broadcast a single message.

“WE ARE HERE. YOU WILL SURRENDER. TERMS ARE UNCONDITIONAL.”

Surprisingly the aliens responded to hails from the UN. Equally surprising, they sent an envoy to speak before the UN Assembly. The tiny shuttle landed right in front of the building and discharged a single humanoid figure in what looked like powered armor reminiscent of HALO. There, before the representatives of the planet, he addressed us. The conversation went something like this:

“Chairman, I am the Herald of K'nor. Did you receive our message of greetings?”

The Chairman responded. “We did. Surely there is -”

“Your answer. It is required. Any failure to respond or parlay further will be treated as a negative response.”

“Just one question. Why?”

The Herald hesitated for a long time. “A fair question. We are here to annex your world. My people are going to live here. There are too many of you on this planet. Left up to you this planet will soon become barren and lifeless. Unconditional surrender will leave you with a voice in who is removed to make room for our people. Failure to surrender will result in another method of removal.”

“We need time to arrive at a consensus. Global decisions on our planet are made democratically. Before we respond can we have a reasonable period of time to make our decision?”

Again a long pause. “Very well, you shall be allowed 3 days.”

“One more question. Just what do you mean by the word, remove?”

“Eliminate.”

Plot
Partly this RP will be player driven. Rest assured, the K’nor intend to eradicate a large part of the human race. The criteria may vary depending on the choices the UN makes in three days. Random deaths will mean that anyone living in a densely populated area is likely to die.

Response to the K’nor as well as their counter response will play out in the RP.

If the UN surrenders, humans will have a say in how those to be eliminated will be chosen. I think your imagination can come up with some great ideas as to how this is handled.

If the UN does NOT surrender, then the K’nor will begin a campaign of slaughter starting with densely populated cities. Whole population centers will be rendered devoid of life.

The K’nor will appear as humans bred to physical perfection. On the average they are about six inches taller. Think in terms of Vulcans or Human Augments. They are superior. But they still have human limitations.

Characters
Characters can come from any walk of life. But let’s be realistic. If you expect to survive, your characters will need a reason to survive. Some random junkie probably won’t be spared.
