Name: Nyis Veli-An-Dach

Age: 28

Gender: Female

SpeciesChiss.

Description: Nyis is a striking woman, naturally alluring with a long legged, long waist frame and well kept curves.  Her silvery-blue skin, dark blue hair and wine-red eyes leave a different impression, making her instantly memorable if unquestionably alien.  She favors charcoal dresses for negotiations but opts for comfortable slacks and a dark blouse with a fashionable business coat worn on top the rest of the time.  When expecting trouble, Nyis wears a blaster (on the hip under the coat usually but occasionally in a thigh holster with a dress).  Her voice is high, light in tone but with sharp, clear enunciation reflecting excellent diction and practice at public speaking.  Nyis' body language is typically direct; able to switch from accommodating to commanding at a moment's notice.

Personality: Nyis is a consummate professional.  Her expression is friendly, her voice cultured and her wardrobe immaculate but it's all practiced skill, her own form of corporate armor.  A lifetime spent sharpening her claws in the cutthroat Bothan business world has left her poised, confident and never showing a hint of weakness.

But it's all reflexive.  Underneath the smile is stark raving terror.  Nyis' whole world hasn't been turned upside down, it's been razed to the ground and she's now a stranger in a land and environment utterly foreign to her.  So she falls back to what she knows best; people.  What they want, what they need, what they'd work for and what they'd kill for.  Everyone has an angle and she's been working them her entire life.  Underneath the fear is rage.  That her life was demolished.  That her entire family was killed by the Empire, justified or not.  Nyis hasn't had much time to come to grips with her recent change in fortunes but if she ever allowed herself to think beyond survival, she might very well turn her hand to revenge.

BackgroundNyis was born on the Bothan colony world of Kothlis in a small commune of Chiss refugees.  None of the adults would admit to their crimes against the Chiss Ascendancy but living among aliens, taking menial jobs and living in shanties on the beaches of the oceanic island world spoke louder than words.  Unlike the handful of other children in their community, Nyis was determined not to share their fate.

Chiss mature early.  By the time she was 10, she'd gained the mental as well as physical stature of near-adulthood.  Possessed of an exceptional intelligence, Nyis befriended several Bothan adolescents with charm and flattery, gaining access to the educational materials of the Bothan people who'd claimed Kothlis.  By the time she was 13, she tested neck to neck with the Bothans and she'd secured a full-ride scholarship by the time she was 15 to one of the best universities on the colony world.

At the age of 17, she secured an internship with Micro Applications, a manufacturer of datapad and pocket computer chipsets headquartered on Kothlis.  Ambitious, dedicated and fiercely competitive, Nyis was a perfect fit for the devious, politicking Bothans and she was made a Project Technician at 20, a Project Manager at 22, Senior Project Manager at 25 and Director of Project Management for MicroApp's R&D subsidy in Tal'cara at the age of 27.  Nyis was lucky.  Incredibly lucky sometimes.  Whether it was spotting a lie no one else noticed or saying just the right thing to nudge a client's schedule to align with MicroApp's development schedule, Nyis' success was meteoric and she seemed destined for great things.

The impoverished, criminal family she'd risen from brought her down in the end.

There wasn't much of a rebellion yet on Kothlis but her father cleaned carpets at the spaceport, her mother did the carpets in the local Imperial garrison and both of her sisters cleaned the private mansion of Kothlis' Imperial Consul-General Gilad Halsek himself.  Nyis never did learn what they were up to but, in a single night, the Empire swooped in and wiped her commune off the face of Kothlis.  Her ambition (and more importantly her private penthouse in Tal'cara) bought her a day, enough time to discover the destruction and realize the Empire would be coming for her next.

Luck was still on Nyis' side.  She pulled a raid of her own files, made off with a fortune of proprietary MicroApp research, and had a friend book her passage off-world.  A month hopping from system to system got her to the Outer Rim where a few discreet inquiries lined up a buyer for what she'd stolen.  Because if her career, her reputation and everything she'd worked for all her life was destroyed, at least she'd have a nice, fat bed of cash to cushion her catastrophic fall.

Skills: Persuasion, Deception, Perception, Force Sensitivity

Weapon(s) of Choice: A small blaster pistol.

Important Items: Proprietary chipset design schematics and manufacturing detail for MicroApp.

Motivations: Nyis wants money.  And maybe revenge.  But it's likely all she'll get is the opportunity to survive and find a new way to prosper.  Making a rogue ship profitable is a start but for her end game?  A chance to pay the Empire back.  Perhaps find the Chiss Ascendancy, wherever they are, and reunite with her own species.  And maybe have a family of her own to replace the one ripped away from her.

Character Quest: Make peace with the loss of her family and get revenge on the Empire.  While it's unlikely that Jedi and the Force will have much to do with this game, Nyis is Force Sensitive (she thinks its luck) and the opportunity to transcend her petty motivations for a lighter (or darker) destiny appeals as well.  Also, anything else that the game's host thinks would be fun to do, please do!

Additional Comments: Nyis, as written, is quite a bit more competent than a "shitty, level one noob".  She's also even less competent than that noob, at least when it comes to adventuring.  I expect a good chunk of this game's opening will be her adapting to her new circumstances and having to learn from others.  While her skillset would make her quite powerful in a corporate espionage kind of game, the fact that this is likely to focus on smuggling, run-and-gun fights and space hijinks makes her the fish out of water, which sounds like it'd be fun to play for me.

Edit: Also, in case it needs to be said, I don't expect the stolen chipset plans to survive the opening episode.
