Name: Nuallan

Age: 21

Sex: Male

Appearance:

Like his father and his forefathers before him, Nuallan has straight, thick, poison-green hair which he keeps long and tied into a low braid and secured with a brown leather strip, the end of it reaching just below his hips. He takes after his mother in regards to facial features and lithe structure. He has high cheekbones and an oval face that ends in a sharp and pointed chin, framed by long side-fringes that brushes the top of his shoulders. His fairly-even-but-jagged forehead fringe stops just below his eyes, usually brushed to the sides in order not to get into his eyes when he does vigorous activities, or merely tilts his head down. He has a straight nose, thin, firm lips that are faintly pink and a delicate jawline, making him more pretty than handsome. His eyes are a light prussian-blue, staring piercingly out from under heavy-lidded eyelids, giving him a consistently bored look, as though he is always a minute away from dozing off. Standing at 167cm and weighing 61.7kg, he cuts a rather unintimidating figure, with lithe muscles usually not visible beneath his choices of fairly-loose clothes.

Backstory: Orphaned for as long as he could remember, Nuallan resided in the old orphanage in the small town of River Village. With no last name of his own, it was nigh on impossible to find out the identity of his parents, let alone discover what happened to them. All he knew from the matron was that he turned up on the doorstep one morning, the classic abandoned infant with only a name stitched at the corner of the threadbare blanket. For five years he lived in the gloomy place surrounded by equally grim kids, old and young, just another thin face in the crowd – if one ignored his poison-green hair, of course. Life was dull. Besides the lessons, chores, meals and bedtime, the days were mundanely repetitive and sometimes – just sometimes – Nuallan would find himself sitting up on the roof and staring at the Village below, taking special note of the passing mages. He couldn’t help but envy them. Of their sense of purpose in life and ability to go on adventures whenever possible. Not that he dwelled too much on those thoughts, for he would only be met with crushing disappointment if he was unable to wield magic.

His break in this mundane cycle came in the form of a wandering mage by the name of Dexter. The man turned up at the orphanage door one day, seeking shelter for the night from the ranging storm. Dexter was a strange looking fellow, decked in dusty grey robes that had seen better times, the deep cowl unable to conceal the mop of brown dreadlocks and piercing yellow eyes. The other occupants stayed well away from the stranger, but not Nuallan. It wasn’t raw courage or mindless bravery – or at least, he didn’t feel brave or anything – that made him approach Dexter and start talking to him. From that single conversation lasting several hours, Nuallan was completely in admiration of the apparent Poison Dragon Slayer. Dexter’s tales of the wider world beyond, of the sheer fantasy in wielding magic, of the thrilling adventures all ignited the boy’s thirst for freedom from mere sparks to a raging inferno. It helped that the stranger was very patient in answering his questions and tolerating his presence. In his excitement, he requested Dexter if he could come along. To his delight, the man agreed easily, citing that he would make a good first student to impart his wisdom upon.

Not a fortnight after, Nuallan found himself under the guardianship of Dexter, and for the first time in his very short life, leaving the only home he knew. It was more than exciting, and he looked forward to what the future held. Unfortunately, the life that unfolded due to his decision was not as sweet as he imagined. True to his words, his mentor did instruct him on the use of magic, where he discovered his aptitude for Acid Magic at the age of six. The corrosive abilities granted to Nuallan was one of the reasons Dexter decided to continue keeping him on. For unbeknownst to Nuallan, Dexter was not a nice man, and far from a light mage. Dragon Slayer though he was, he was also a mercenary. A guildless, wandering mage who specialised in killing people, mage or not. The boy was left oblivious to his mentor’s job until he mastered his magic at a satisfactory level. Now, the friendly, easy-going relationship between them turned into something else. Dexter became stricter, colder, and harsher, forcing Nuallan’s hand to ending the life of an innocent man during their first mission together. He was seven years old when he first killed someone.

Appalled and afraid of Dexter, Nuallan unfortunately could not scrounge up the courage to cut ties and leave, for this was the only path he knew. Not to mention the fact that Dexter did help Nuallan track down the identity of his birth parents, both of whom decided against claiming him due to a one-night stand. His birth father was another wandering mage, and was whom passed on his genetics to Nuallan. So he swallowed his disgust and continued following the mage on endless assignments for slightly more than a decade. The day he was freed from the abyss was the day Dexter was finally killed on the road by a member of Crime Sorciere. Nuallan would have died too on that day – in fact he had been ready for it. However, the man took pity on him due to his youth and offered him a chance to redeem himself. Gratified, Nuallan wasted no time in accepting the offer, and has been with the guild for four year and counting.

Personality: Nuallan is extremely practical and thus, that makes him extremely blunt with his words. While he can sensor the words coming out if the situation calls for it, most of the time, he doesn’t see the need to. This tendency of being very frank has its ups and downs. Some might appreciate his non-sugar coating of words but some become offended. Due to his less than pristine past, he strives to be a man of sound moral principles, and would stand by them no matter what it cost him. He can be stubborn and hard-headed when he believes he is right, and refuses to be convinced otherwise unless the opponent manages to bring sound logic into the argument. He refrains from judging people by first impression alone, and usually reserves his opinion until he knows them better. While he might be a hard person to offend, he can't stand being belittled, and can get rather competitive, especially if that particular person proves rather challenging. His temper is a slow simmering fire, not easily coerced to rearing up and retaliate, but the right trigger works like kerosene, making it explosive and abruptly, but dwindles down quickly. The right trigger? Threatening the young ones in the Guild. The older ones can take care of themselves, but the younger he sees as his responsibilities.

Having grown up and trained by a guildless, wandering dark mage, Nuallan had been witness to some pretty horrific scenes and experiences that still haunts his memories at present, although not as often now. Hence, he is prone to be plagued by bouts of nightmares, waking up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, eyes darting around to look for the enemy. After several years of this happening when he was younger, he took to working himself to exhaustion before falling into a deep, dreamless slumber. This resulted in him being an insomniac, only catching a few hours rest each day. It is not unusual for him to sleep with a flask of acid close at hand.

Strengths: Nuallan excels in close to medium combat, courtesy of his magic and martial prowess. He works better as a support within a group or a duo rather than solo as his arsenal of abilities are mostly defensive rather than offensive. Rather than relying on strength, he is agile and fast. Although he is not one for thinking on his feet, his memory is impeccable, which allows him to remember orders word for word, or details about their missions. He does not offend easily, and likes anyone as long as they are not of Dark Guilds – for those people reminds him too much of his former mentor.

Weaknesses: Long range combat is out of the question, for his magic doesn’t extend that far, and his aim is not the best. Nuallan is also unfortunately not very good at strategy and often relies on his teammates to find a solution to the problem if he cannot see one (which is most of the time. He can be easily overpowered physically and cannot lift a finger against cute-looking things like baby animals. If you want to render him to a puddle of squeals in the middle of combat, just stick a puppy or something before him.

Magic Type: Caster Magic – Acid Magic: Nuallan is capable of producing liquid acid from the pores of both hands up to the wrist. He can also exhale clouds of acidic vapour from his mouth.

Wizard Class: A-Class

WeaponHe has metal claws attached to each of his fingers.

Proficiency: Nuallan is very proficient in close-combat, meaning that he is equally skilled in utilising his claws in a fight. Of course, these claws can only allow him to engage in close-combat, and if the range increases past his optimal range, he will have to reply on his magic.

Miscellaneous Items: He keeps a pair of gloves in his pockets since after he uses his magic, traces of acid lingers on his skin for a couple of hours. While it might not do more than cause rash, he prefers not to come into direct contact with anyone until it is gone. He also has a flask of acid tucked into his travel-pouch in case of emergencies.

Guild: Crime Sorciere

TenureFour years.

Guild Mark Location: His guild mark is blood-red and is located on the right side of his neck.
