Bio:

The first six years of a child's life are spent in the real world, disconnected from the virtual reality that people had adapted to. It plays a major role in their development, raised by their parents until they eventually grow old enough to join the rest of humanity within the vast digital space. Unfortunately for Elijah, the only two sources of interaction available to him were less than optimal, both mother and father having more than their fair share of issues.

Elijah's father did not hold many positive feelings when it came to this new form of society, untrusting of it. Those emotions spread to most things related to technology, maintaining a very negative attitude as he distanced himself from them as much as possible. This contributed to his choice of occupation, working in one of the few remaining real world professions as a product distributor. While it was dangerous work, he found it preferable to any job that was available in the virtual world.

With a salary that matched the large risks that came with job, Elijah's father brought in a healthy income, which created more problems than it solved. A large sum of the money his father made went to supporting his drinking habit, being one of the few things that the man actually seemed to enjoy. After returning home from work, he would simply sit in a secluded space, keeping to himself with a blank stare as he continuously opened new containers. Ordinarily, he was cold and distant, hardly giving anything a second glance, but the alcohol made him just a bit more annoyed the usual. Since he was always drinking, the man was was pretty much always upset, anger brought on by the smallest things while intoxicated.

Even when aggressive, his father wasn't the type to display much energy, never being too loud when in a bad mood. His tone was still rather harsh, easily noticeable when he would argue with Elijah's mother. Whether it was verbal or physical, it didn't take long for those acts of aggression to settle down when everything was out of his system, which likely had something to due with his mother's lack of a response. Dealing with a person that never reacted probably made things boring for him.

Working, drinking, and arguing. That was pretty much all that there was to his father. He never had much of an opinion on the man while growing up. There certainly wasn't any affection between them, which could be said for everyone that lived in their home. Still, Elijah had some respect for him. Not really the respect one would have for a parent. It was probably more along the lines of what a pet felt towards their owner, receiving food and shelter each day. There really wasn't much to complain about.

Elijah's relationship with his mother wasn't much better. While his father had the bad habit of letting his emotions get to him, his mother had the opposite problem. In the house where it almost felt like speaking was some sort of taboo, the woman was the most silent of the three occupants, leaving her son to often wonder if she could talk at all.

It was quite clear that she held no positive feelings toward her husband, which was probably the only thing the two had in common, aside from their rough exteriors. It appeared as though they stayed together for convenience, rather than any emotional reason, merely putting up with each other. She never resisted when on the receiving end of his abuse, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't react in other ways.

She would often go out of her way to spite her husband, but never by openly confronting him. Whenever she had the chance, she would have Elijah learn about the things he disliked, primarily anything that involving computers. He never heard anything from her directly, merely having books filled with information lazily tossed his way,
but the boy always assumed that this was her own small form of revenge. Truthfully, he never gave it too much thought, simply reading whatever found its way to him. He wasn't particularly interested in learning about the subjects, but it wasn't as if there was anything else for him to do. It was the only thing that he had to deal with the sense of boredom, which he found to be the most troubling aspect of his life. As a result, he became quite knowledgeable about anything that involved electricity and had a blinking light.

By no means did he consider this way of life as something normal. He knew very well how dysfunctional his family was, something he became aware of after eventually being allowed to interact with other people in virtual reality. However, it was the only life he had known. He had grown accustomed to it, despite realizing how bad things were. Elijah viewed it with indifference, largely unconcerned.

As time moved onward, not much had changed, aside from his age. His life in the virtual world remained rather uneventful, spending most of his time in school or the Library at Sal-A-Test. While he never had any trouble communicating with others, Elijah was never the type to make friends, always keeping to himself.

As for life at home in the real world, there was quite a stir on the day of his eighteenth birthday, greeted with the death of his father upon logging out of the digital space. It didn't take long to figure out what had caused it, not at all surprised that his mother was the one responsible. Honestly, he thought she would've done something like this much sooner. She must have waited until he became an adult and was able to support himself, putting up with an unsatisfactory life for several years instead of leaving behind a child with nobody to look after them. It was very considerate of her. In that respect, she at least had some qualities of a responsible parent.

Elijah didn't have much of an emotional reaction to the loss. He wasn't intentionally trying to be cold, but it was difficult to muster any form of grief when those involved felt more like strangers than family members. Even so, he still payed his respects, considering that they did raise him all these years.

At the time, his main concern was finding a source of income, left on his own to pay for bills and such. In the end, he would settle on taking the recently opened position in product distribution, the salary more than enough to support himself. It wasn't as if he had any other career in mind, lacking ambition and having no clear direction of where he wanted to go in life.

Elijah was never overly concerned with the potential risks involved with traversing the outside world while making deliveries, but he still made sure to be cautious. He always made sure to be aware of his surroundings, carefully doing his job without complaint. It felt more mundane than frightening, especially when constantly confronted with the same scenery of what the world had become. Although, he had no problems with that. The only issue that he ever had to deal with was the one that led to the premature end of his career.

When transporting goods, the man he often worked with wasn't in very high spirits. His memory of what he said on that particular day was vague, but it likely had something to do with his family, often hearing of the wife and daughter waiting for him back home. While not having much to talk about himself, Elijah was still willing to listen, knowing that speaking with someone else probably helped ease the guy's nerves during such a dangerous job.

While listening and responding with the occasional "yeah" and "is that so" in between the man's sentences, a rather unfortunate incident took place. With his coworker's lack of attention and the usual dangers of the outside world, it was natural that an accident would occur. The man thankfully came out of it unharmed, save for a few minor cuts and bruises, but Elijah hadn't been as lucky.

The accident left him with a pretty nasty scar on his face and a serious leg injury, losing all feeling in the damaged limb. It wasn't as though all hope was lost, having a chance at recovery if treated. Although, there was also a possibility that nothing would come of said treatment. Considering the costs of medical operations, he wasn't fond of the idea of paying for something that could end up solving nothing. Thus, he decided to accept things as they were.

Without the use of his leg, there wasn't much of a future left for him in product distribution, leading to the end of his career. Of course, the worker responsible for all this was apologetic, visibly plagued by guilt. Elijah didn't really hold it against him, not having anything to gain from doing so. It was best just to keep things between them, passing off what happened as an ordinary accident.

It took some time to adjust to his new handicap, but it didn't prove too troublesome, considering that it was as if nothing ever happened when he slipped on his visor and returned to Little City. It was still possible for him to live out a normal life there, unaffected by the results of his loss. It would have been simple for him to settle down and move on to something else, especially with his qualifications. However, he chose not to do so.

Elijah didn't see much point in furthering a life in an artificial reality. Receiving compensation from the accident, it wasn't really necessary for him to find a new line of work. There wasn't much he wanted to do anyways, everything he had done up until that point being a result of necessity or boredom.

His life hadn't changed much, aside from the free time he now found himself with. Apart from occasional trips to the library, Elijah's only other hobby was something he had inherited from his father. He never really spent money on anything aside from what he needed to keep on living, but alcohol was the exception. He wasn't as heavy of a drinker as his father, nor did he have fits of anger, but he often took to a glass when he had nothing better to do. In all honesty, everything tasted the same to him after a while, but it helped kill time and alleviated boredom pretty well. As a result, he became well-known by the people that worked in the small bars he spent most of his time in, even if he never gave his name.

Spending the days drinking, reading, and exercising to keep his damaged body in shape, Elijah was comfortable with his life of listlessness. It was only when he discovered his abilities as a Code Breaker that it began to show some change. While he had occasional visions as a child, he could now see the threads of data around him much more clearly. He considered that he may have just been hallucinating until he heard of those with the same abilities. Upon learning this information, Elijah quickly decided that he didn't want to get involved.

Not interested in drawing attention to himself, he kept his status hidden, for the most part. On occasion, he would help out others in need assistance if their problems could be solved with his skills, earning a bit of Kirito in the process. However, he never tackled anything beyond his capabilities and made sure to keep this information contained to a small circle of people in his home within Territory 2.

Part 2Ever since he was drafted into Pwnies, things have gotten a lot busier for Elijah. While it's now impossible to have the quiet life he's maintained for the last few years, the man has tried to at least keep the noise to a minimum. When troublesome situations arise, Elijah is there to lend a hand, but that's usually limited to jobs that would cause more problems for him if he remained uninvolved.

Aside from those cases, he's maintained as little contact with the guild as possible in an effort to keep his preferred lifestyle as close to what it once was. Even if he has proven to be dependable during the times when he's around, Pwnies was never something that he wanted to be a part of. However, he still doesn't have anything against his fellow members.

Even if he does tend to stay away from the larger group, Elijah has managed to stay on decent terms with some of the Code Breakers. While he's yet to converse with many of them, a few interesting people stand out in his mind. A librarian, an amusing Trojan, the junior master, and a candy-loving detective.

Overall, not much has changed in the month since he joined Pwnies, but there's the question of how long before things inevitably take a turn for the worse. Well, he'll deal with it when the time comes. Probably.

Username: Cob0lt
Real Name: Gabriel d'Olivieras
Age: 25
Gender: Male

Personality:

  • Free-Spirit: Open-minded and intuitive, the ex-artist has often been one to quietly forge his own path, and while he's interested in the opinions of others doesn't appreciate being pressured to conform to the expectations of those around him. He'll take orders from his superiors at work, but he'll likely grumble under his breath about it, particularly when it comes to adhering to 'arbitrary' policies.
  • Mental: Gabriel is prone to getting lost in his thoughts, and frequently daydreams so as to escape the doldrums of his menial employment. Though he enjoys bouts of spontaneity on occasion, he typically prefers to plan things out before taking action.
  • Careful: Always erring on the side of caution, Gabriel tends to consider all possible outcomes of a situation before coming to a decision, and instinctively avoids conflict or making choices with excessive risk (Duchamp likely being the boldest move he's made to date). This has served him well in that he tends to have good relations will those around him, but a part of him wonders if he's become too complacent in maintaining this system. When faced with a situation which puts his well being in jeopardy, he's most likely to act out of self-preservation than the overall good of others.
  • Realist: In his younger years, Gabriel was a rather optimistic individual, preferring to look on the bright side of life. This hopefulness was dampened significantly after graduating high school, with the man's outlook nowadays tending to be more pragmatic. He's not so forgone as to be a cynic, but he unconsciously sets his expectations low so as to avoid excessive disappointment in his daily life.
  • Extrovert: Gabriel is at his best when in the company of others. Though inherently a laid-back individual, he is the most energetic and self-assured in the company of colleagues and friends, having few qualms about expressing himself or his sentiments. There are times when he'd rather loaf around his apartment than have a night on the town, but having too much time alone typically leaves him feeling lethargic and moody.
  • Playful: All things considered, Gabriel is a relatively laid-back kind of guy. He doesn't sweat the small stuff usually and prefers to go with the flow of things rather than worry about moving things along. This is perhaps one of the most notable shifts in his character over the past few years, as he was much more serious and high-strung back when he was a student.
  • Experience: Experience: [/B]While understanding the value of education and studying under the guidance of those more knowledgeable than himself, the young man has always found that a hands-on approach is the most suitable method of learning for him. As a student and artist, he had a habit of skipping classes to work on his portfolio, and rather than simply read about a famous painter or sculptor would rather look at their works and try to mimic them. While much of that spirit has been squashed since completing his studies, Gabriel continues to learn best when messing around and doing whatever skill he wants to improve.
  • Romantic: Gabriel is almost always open to forging new relationships with those around him, whether they be platonic or romantic in nature. A good listener and supportive colleague, he's always had an easy time getting to know people, and tries to be sensitive to the feelings of others. That being said, there are times when he gets consumed with his own personal issues, and is prone to flaking out on his friends and family when something more interesting has caught his attention.
Biography: Gabriel's childhood was an uneventful one. The middle child of Beatriz and Daniel, a pediatrician and social worker respectively, the boy grew up comfortably in his virtual home alongside his elder sister Sofia and younger brother Gustavo, not to mention the myriad of aunts, uncles, and cousins who regularly visited. While not a wealthy family, they made the most of what they had, instilling in their children a strong work ethic and sense of frugality. In school, Gabriel was deemed a bright, yet inattentive student, preferring to doodle or chat with his peers than listen to the teacher's lecture. He participated in e-sports and other extra-curricular activities, but these were largely flights of fancy, none of them truly capturing his attention. As a youth, he thought little of the world that existed beyond the virtual realm, in his own mind believing it to be but a hindrance from his real life in the online world.

As he grew older, it gradually became apparent that the boy not only had a passion for drawing, but a talent for it as well. While most teenagers enjoyed their free time outside or in the gym, Gabriel spent many a lunch period hanging out in the art room, gradually working on his sketches and designs amidst chatting with the teacher and fellow students who preferred the tranquil refuge. He drifted between a myriad of social circles, acquiring plenty of acquaintances and friends in said group before moving on. As graduation approached, the boy's aspirations crystallized into one clear goal- continuing his artistic endeavours. His parents were apprehensive at first, but after thorough discussion agreed to support their son's goals as much possible, with the expectation that he would figure out how to build a career and support himself after completing his studies. For the enthused youth, this was more than reasonable, in his naivety thinking this would be easy to fulfill given his talent and drive. And so with his family's blessings, Gabriel began attending the Duchamp School of Art and Design.

The newly-minted undergrad dove into his work with an unbridled zeal, absorbing any and all knowledge like a sponge. Happy as a clam, the young man was immersed in his craft and learning from others, fascinated by the realms of possibility which he was becoming cognizant of. And yet, it was inevitable that this honeymoon period would not last, and for Gabriel this came halfway through his studies. While he had had a smooth relationship with his previous mentor, said professor had since gone on sabbatical, and so the budding artist was paired with a different instructor, Dr. Alcides Morricone. Nicknamed 'The Hawk', the artist was one of the more infamous staff members, both for his prodigious work as well as piercing demeanour. While some would argue that this vicious reputation was embellished by word of mouth, these were not baseless rumours, and Morricones' critiques made quick work eviscerating Gabriel's pride and joy. The young man began dreading these lessons, procrastinating on his assignments, which often resulted in further reproach. It seemed impossible to meet his mentor's expectations, and the artist began to consider whether he had only gotten as far as he had through sheer luck.

By the end of his education, Gabriel had undoubtably refined his skills. And yet in the process, his spirit had been crushed, unable to derive any pleasure or satisfaction in his work. The graduate felt aimless, the goals which had previously guided him distant and forgotten. Despite his initial efforts to find work in his field, nothing panned out, leaving him more discouraged. The passion was extinguished, and the man was unsure how to remedy this. Yet he was not left to ponder this dilemma for long as financial burdens loomed above his head, unwilling to request further assistance after all the assurances he'd previously made. Eventually he landed a gig as a telemarketer, pressing on through the slog of long hours and meaningless labour.

To this day he works at that same company, in that time being upgraded from cold-caller to desk jockey. When not stuck in the cubicle the Hispanic chills with his buddies at work, attends the occasional e-sports game if he can swing tickets. Like a good son, he regularly visits his parents, and stays in touch with his siblings as well as a few old friends from Duchamp. Yet for one reason or another the man remains purposeless in his existence, unwilling to attempt to return to his art, unable to escape his life of quiet desperation despite the growing urge within to change these circumstances.

That is, until a month ago.

Part II

Since joining Edge La and her haphazardly assembled crew of Codebreakers, Gabriel's life has been irreversibly altered. Most of the time he's sent out on the low key assignments- fetch quests, admin tasks, the occasional escort mission. Now and then though the Pwn Star, under the alias of Cob0lt, gets a more tantalizing mission, the kind of work you could imagine a proper vigilante doing, and with that comes a rush of adrenaline that makes him feel alive. If he really wanted to he could probably excel within their guild, but in truth the man prefers not having the additional responsibility. It's already enough to juggle whilst continuing his regular day job, something he doesn't plan on quitting anytime soon.

During his time off, one often finds him milling about the Pwnies HQ to hang out with the guild members he's become better acquainted with, or else at a bar with the guys' from work. There have been a handful of instances however where he is absent from his usual haunts, instead locked away in the solitude of his apartment. Asking him what he's been up to results in a shrug and a mention of some E-Sports Tournament, but the astute observer might notice the dark smudges on his hands or how frequently he gets lost in thought nowadays. It's evident to anyone who cares to look that he's pre-occupied with something, but who knows how long it'll be before it slips out.

Bio:
The first thing you have to know about Lynn is that he likes to read. A lot. It was all he ever did when he was a child, a bit past those toddler years when he could not yet connect to VR but old enough for his mother to leave him alone in their apartment after school. He grew up with books rather than people, partly because he had trouble holding conversations with others and partly because he never particularly cared enough to work at it. So knowing that Lynn liked to read a lot, it wasn't much of a surprise when he chose to become a public librarian when he graduated. One would think it better for him to become an English professor or a writer, but his love has always been for the books themselves, not the realm of ideas about books. His lawyer mother was slightly disappointed with this career path of his, but he seemed uncharacteristically obstinate about it so she relented without much of a fight. Without a father figure in the family, Lynn and his mother have always been close; this little disagreement did nothing to change this fact.

There was never much of a choice when it came to where Lynn would be assigned, there being only one library in all of Little City -- the grandest one Lynn had ever seen, in fact. When he was younger, he wondered if being in the Library at Sal-A-Tet was what it felt like to walk the halls of the Library of Alexandria. Being a part of the overworked and underpaid staff has long since shattered that fanciful notion, though a quiet shift at the Main Desk still brings back a hint of the childlike wonder. Rays of sunlight streaming in through the tall windows, dust motes slow-dancing and lending the air a magical shimmer, the smell of parchment and leather pervading the place, and the crackle of a yellowed page as it is turned... During such moments, it is easy for him to say that he loves his job, despite the library's dwindling funds and the pervasive phenomena of property defacement and book theft.

It was around this time, when he first started working, that he discovered his ability to Code Break. He'd heard of the Code Breakers, and though they were necessary to keep the peace of their society, he never wished to work as one himself. However, Code Breaking provided some element of interest to him, so he continued to explore his abilities in secret. It was only until budgeting cuts struck that he even considered using his Code Breaking abilities to earn some money on the side. Nobody was visiting the library anymore: why go if they could access novels and dictionaries and other daily-use books with the tap of a finger? Their long pending proposal for new technology and resources rejected, Lynn made up his mind. Thus, he began moonlighting as a Code Breaker by the name of Rhyme.
---
Part 2

Joining the Pwnies opened Lynn's eyes to a new world, one where mayors could be sexist and corrupt to the core and teenagers could be easily inducted into the fast rising criminal organization that threatened all of VR. Wrapping his head around the upside-down nature of it all was difficult; at times, he thought he'd stepped into a nightmare or perhaps a bad crime-fiction novel. Moreover, the hard-nosed vigilantism preached by his guildmaster felt entirely contrary to his nature; still, the man felt a pressing responsibility to do good by the world as a Codebreaker, so he held on as an active member of the Pwnies.

These days have been rough on the librarian. He participates in guild missions as often as possible, but his day job still limits him to nights, Sundays, and the rare vacation. Due to his irregular work hours, he has developed a strong dependency on caffeine, and his smoking habit has worsened. Overall, his health has deteriorated and it shows despite the lengths he has gone to conceal his dark circles and thinning frame.

Spending time with other Pwnie members, however, has prevented him from going entirely off the deep end. He keeps mostly to his initial circle of acquaintances out of shyness, but has come to appreciate the strengths of the precious few that he interacts with regularly. He maintains a healthy but admiring distance from both the Pwnies' resident detective, as well as the detective's business-savvy assistant, and finds himself depending on the junior guild master's competency more times than he can count during their missions. In particular, he finds that having the occasional drink with Royal tends to calm him in the midst of his hectic work schedule.

Yet how long can this precarious balance last?

Bio:
Caleb and Cayden. Caleb and Cayden. Caleb and Cayden. First Caleb, then Cayden. This was the way it was and this was how it should have stayed. But Cayden was destined for more.

Caleb, Cayden's older brother by 2 years, was the unsaid favorite of the family as the two brothers were growing up. He excelled at what he did and this left Cayden to be his shadow. But young Cayden did not mind this. In fact he felt honored to have such a dependable, popular, and promising older brother. He'd often follow his older brother wherever he went, when he could, and attempt to do everything his brother did. Caleb was a major presence in middle school. He was a great athlete, excelled well in his academics, and was known to stand up to others. Cayden followed along quietly, excited at first until he began growing older. At some point the teachers only saw Cayden as Caleb's younger brother and nothing more. They held the same, or even higher, expectations for Cayden. Even his own parents began comparing Cayden a lot to Caleb.

Reaching the rebellious stage of his early pre-teens, Cayden decided that he didn't want to be Caleb's shadow anymore. But he didn't embark on the usual route of rebellion instead he decided to set his own standards. What Cayden would not realize until he was already deep onto the route was that he was a prodigy. If Caleb was going to join the basketball team, Cayden would join the football team. If Caleb was going to join the math club, Cayden would join the student council. If Caleb placed 5th in his class, Cayden placed 2nd in his. At first the brothers saw it as friendly competition of who could gain the best compliments from their parents. But eventually Cayden began passing Caleb. This didn't settle well with Caleb, the older brother who was the star of the family before. Cayden was naive to the harm he was placing on his brother, he simply wanted to make a name for himself.

Falling from the spotlight, Caleb was furious. Of course he never expressed this to his brother or family. He wore the mask of happiness and pride for his brother. But not receiving the fame and enough attention from his family Caleb went to the last resort of receiving attention, he declared himself a CodeBreaker. This was a happy surprise to the Venz family at first, especially to Cayden. Cayden's abilities awakened when he was twelve, but he never told anyone since he wanted to continue living his comfortable life. But once he heard his older brother at 16 declaring that he was a CodeBreaker, Cayden wanted to have a secret he could share with his brother.

But the night Cayden wanted to the tell his brother was the same night when he lost Caleb.

Turned out that Caleb was not a CodeBreaker, but rather one of the "murderers" in the game. Cayden didn't realize this until he saw Caleb, his own brother, "murder" someone in front of him. It happened in one of the alleyways of Little City with Cayden coming around the corner of a building to happily greet his brother when he saw a madman finishing off a person. Even though it wasn't physical murder, harm was still placed on the victim. Cayden was frozen where he stood as he watched the murderer obtain the points and stats for power and turn around to face him. The stranger had Caleb's face, but his eyes told another story.

Tears trailed down young Cayden's face as he fought the savage that was his brother. So much pain and anger was brought by the brothers into the fight. But even with the stolen powers, Caleb lost. Cayden collapsed onto his knees once the battle was fought hoping that his brother would come to his senses. And just for a moment he did. Caleb looked up to Cayden with saddened eyes and gave him one last smile before whispering, "Shoot for the stars bro." and immediately logging off as soon as he said that. Cayden was slightly confused as to why he said this until he intuitively felt a bad vibe calling up his spine. Cayden logged off as quickly as he could and bolted to his brother's room. But as soon as he opened the door he screamed in agony for his parents. There in the closet of Caleb hung his body, limp and lifeless.

Cayden spent his final year in middle school as a zombie. He stopped trying and went through the motions. He felt responsible for his brother's suicide and decided that he shouldn't try to apply himself to anything or else he may hurt someone else. Cayden only logged on to attend school and nothing more. A few times Cayden thought about ending his own life, but then he would internally scold himself for thinking of such a cowardly thing. He could see the pain that still lingered in his parent's eyes whenever they thought about Caleb. He could tell they felt guilty about his suicide too. They weren't the only ones. Caleb's friends, fans, and teachers were all shaken up by his death.

A whole year of being Caleb's ghost, it was burdening on Cayden. It was a year full of pitiful looks and condolences. Everyone believed that Caleb passed from an accident, but only Cayden and his parents knew the truth. A year of lingering in the past was too much for Cayden. As soon as he graduated middle school he chose to attend a high school far away as he could possibly manage from the bubble of Caleb. The change was needed, Cayden was slowly deteriorating mentally and physically from his past. The final push was when one of Caleb's close friends went up to Cayden and eerily said, "Continue shooting for the stars."

Caleb's gone. Cayden needed to establish that, but if there were people who were going to constantly breath reminders down his neck then he needed to move. Once he began attending high school it started looking up. Cayden decided to lay low for the first few months, not really wanting to attract any attention. What he soon came to realize was that he chose a school that was renowned for bullying. Through all his research he had overlooked that detail or either chose to ignore it. But soon it became relevant to him when he became the target of the school bully. It started out with insults, jeers, and pranks but soon it evolved into physical jabs. No one had ever stood up to this bully, not until Cayden faced him. The bully didn't really have any power, just sheer intimidation. But this was not enough to scare Cayden. And in one swift punch to the gut Cayden won his school popularity. Despite all that he was running from, internally it felt satisfying being noticed. Cayden felt guilty for feeling selfish in wanting more attention, but he decided that he needed to move on. He moved away for a reason anyways, to start anew. Plus it was time that he helped his parents heal.

For the following year Cayden decided to slowly rise up in the ranks of his high school. But this time he did it for Caleb. Cayden stole Caleb's life and he wanted to fix that. Now Cayden stands as one of the more popular guys in school receiving endless confessions and fanmail but in the end rejecting all with politeness and courtesy. However he will lend a hand to anyone who asks for it, or if he sees that they need it.

Bio: Eldest child of Jisoo and Heejung Park, owner's of the speciality grocery store Garden of Eden, Cho and her younger sister Minji were raised in the nurturing embrace of their family. Over the years, this was both a source of comfort and ire for the girl; on one hand there were always a plethora of cousins to play with or an older relative from whom she could seek guidance. It was a loving environment, even if that affection wasn't always openly expressed, but with it came an unspoken expectation quietly looming in the background. Though blissfully ignorant of it in her earlier years, this thought wriggled uncomfortably into her consciousness shortly after starting grade school. That to succeed in whatever pursuits she took on was not so much a goal or hope as a requirement.

As she grew older, Cho proved to be a lively student, eager to learn yet whom struggled to stay on task. Concerned by their childs' lack of focus and how it may affect her academic standing, her parents' began taking time to assist her with her work and often enlisted her cousins to tutor her. These choices were well-intended, but it placed an uncomfortable lens of comparison on the child, one which bothered her more than she let on. Cho felt that she was scrutinized more harshly than her sister or other relations in her age group, and this increased attention began to sour her outlook both towards school and her family. The formerly warm and comforting embrace of both the immediate and extended family started to chafe, growing more irritable whenever she sought distance from it. For a time she was certain she simply needed to double her efforts to meet those expectations, and in return would earn the respect and pride of her family. Yet by junior high the girl's hopes had faded; whenever she achieved an objective she worked so hard to reach, the goalpost's were simply set further away. In her eyes, no matter how hard she tried, Cho parents never truly acknowledged her accomplishments, only focussing on what needed to be better.

This consequentially led to discord between the parents' and their child, the dynamic becoming increasingly quarrelsome. As Cho vocally retaliated, her parents' felt it increasingly necessary to scold her, frustrated and concerned with her disrespectful behaviour. The cycle continued to perpetuate, every punishment brought upon her only cementing her disdain, and eventually the eldest daughter decided to simply give up, determining that it was pointless. Under the premise of study sessions or tutoring Cho would spend her afternoons and weekends out of the house, usually at the mall with friends or else siphoning data from the coffeeshop to watch make-up tutorials or dominate MMORPG quests. Whatever moral quandary she once had with falsehoods diminished, and frequently lied to her family on her activities and academic progress. Whether they believed her words or not was up for debate, but by now the parent's were too fatigued of the constant arguing to care.

It was during high school that the student first became aware of her Code-breaking prowess, which became her newest weapon in her academic fraud scheme. She told herself that she was doing this for herself, to open the gates so she could lead whatever life she wanted down the road, but even still a small part of her wanted to earn her family's admiration, even if it was through false means. The girl was cunning in her execution, gradually bringing up her grades in those most irksome classes, and graduated on the honour roll (To both the surprise and smug satisfaction of her parents). As the end of high school approached, those questions of the future began looming ominously. Whilst there was the silent assumption that she would train to take over the family business, the girl had no interest in such things, only craving to escape that oppressive environment. Yet Cho was also aware that she'd receive no aid from her family if she just left home without a plan. So a compromise was struck; she would attend a college program in Solaris, taking a foundation year before starting a business management diploma, which her parent's would help cover.

These plans were thrown into jeopardy when her aging father had a stroke. He eventually recovered enough to resume life in the digital realm, but returned a changed person. While most physical ailments were masked in VR, the damage worst of the damage had been to the mind. Jisoo had once been a proud, outspoken man, but now the space grew quieter in his presence, strangers and family members alike speaking in hushed tones. His mind was in a perpetual haze, and what conversation could be had with him was brief and laden with pervasive silences. As dysfunctional as their relationship had been before, to see him like this was deeply unsettling to both his daughters, and what time they spent together now was spent discussing vapid pleasantries while sitting at the dinner table or by the television. None daring to speak of that which was deemed too painful to address.

In the wake of this misfortune, Heejung took charge of the business, and the question arose whether Cho would change her plans to accommodate this change in circumstances, perhaps transfer to a local school. However, the young woman was suspicious that Heejung was taking advantage of the situation to keep her daughter home (And under her watchful eye), and whatever sympathy she might've had vanished once that notion crossed her mind. This is how Cho found herself at the airport, stiffly embracing her mother and sister as she left for Solaris. At the same time, Cho took the opportunity to apply to switch to a communal dorm in the real world, effectively cutting herself off from the family as a whole. It was done with a guilt riddled conscience, one which her older relatives continue to pick at every opportunity, yet she would make the same decisions again.

The first couple years of school blew past in a flash, a blur of parties and pub crawls, the young woman diving headfirst into unfamiliar territories. In between the nightclubs, the weekend trips out to the city, the dopamine-driven escapades were a hefty dose of ill-fated relationships sprinkled with some personal trauma better left in the past, things the Deviant is unusually tight-lipped about. Gradually, however, that high octane lifestyle has caught up to her, leaving her bank accounts barren and putting a damper on what are supposed to be the greatest years of her life. Consequentially, Cho has begun taking a more critical look at her situation and what she wants for her future, attempting to become a more mature individual in the process. Efforts to cut back on personal indulgences have led to mixed results, but there has been improvement in her studying rather than cheating her way through her courses. She's also taken on a part-time job: perhaps it's unconventional, fighting crime and running errands for a vigilante group, but it gives her some extra cash, and is anything if not interesting.

A codebreaker who is "friends" with both JinX and Prince. A coffee addict who visited a certain maid cafe on ??? floor and now can't seem to leave. Be it for the waitresses or the food, B-Reaper found himself charmed by the environment and often frequented the shop when he needed a place to relax. A freelance Codebreaker, with terrible luck in regards to guilds, Blackjack mainly finds his jobs from rumors, whispers, and occasionally checking VR Daily. Whenever he feels like working, that is. Despite his lack of jobs, B-Reaper seems to be rather picky about the jobs he does take. The exact criteria he uses is unknown. However, he is often seen refusing requests for his Breaker services for reasons from not liking the client to not liking the job to simply not being in the 'mood'. Probably why he's hanging/lazing around the maid cafe all the time. He has a JinX subscription and is a fan of Prince Antonelli. Sometimes he runs errands for Spades to pay off his tabs.

Bio:
Freshman at Duchamp University. She was a fan of the boy band AXEL in her high school days and continues to follow the group even after the L left. One of the group's earliest followers and president of their fan club. Her brother is the codebreaker B-Reaper. None of her friends knows she's a codebreaker and she likes to keep it that way. She doesn't like dealing with the publicity or random people bothering her with requests just because of her abilities. Guilds, quests, and all the usual codebreaking stuff doesn't really interest her. Besides organizing club activities and events, she enjoys going out to collect virtual animals, studying them, then modifying them to fit her liking. She currently majors in biology with an emphasis on zoology and virtual beast design. Some of her companions are examples of her latest school projects. Her dream (besides marrying Antony from AXE) is to join the scientists designing virtual animals for society. She and JinX share a dorm.

Major Traits

What's your character's style? Are they traditional, or a free-spirit?

  • (Traditional) Your character usually follows the rules and the "normal" way of doing things. They are conservative, hardworking, routine, stable, and diligent. They focus on doing what's expected and making sure it's done without much fuss. They prefer to follow society's standard values, standard dress, and are slower to accept new ideas. They are the ones who wait for someone to finish speaking, before they themselves start. They are usually meek and respectful.

What is your character's way of action? Are they physical, or mental?

  • (Physical) Your character experiences the world primarily through physical touch. They like to hold things, hug things, kick things, punch things; anything that lets them connect with life in tangible ways. They are very aware of their bodies and surroundings, but are liable to get irritated if they're not able to move around for too long.

What kind of resolve does your character have?
  • (Bold) This character is brave. They are the type who leap before they look. In a dangerous situation where someone needed help, this person might stand back for a bit, but they wouldn't be able to keep out of the action for long. If there's something frightening coming, stand behind them if there's no choice but to fight.
What type of outlook does your character have on life?
  • (Realist) This character sees things for how they really are, not how they want them to be. A realist is practical. They do not shoot for the stars, but aim low and try to do things they know can be done. They can be cynical, brutally honest, always seeking the truth, and hard to make happy because of it.

What level of openness does your character have?
  • (Introvert) These characters de-stress and center by spending time alone. They lose their charm when being around people or other external things for too long; especially large crowds of them. Being spoken to directly or performing an externally demanding task, drains them even faster. When exposed to too many things at once, these characters will soon likely take a break to rest and recover. Introverted typed people are usually independent, and thoughtful, reliable friends.
Lesser Traits

What's your character's demeanor?

  • (Serious) Your character doesn't like to play games. They're all business. They get straight to the point and quickly move on as soon as things are settled. Time is one thing this character does not waste without a fight.
Which way to knowledge does your character prefer?
  • (Experience) Your character is a child of experience. They likely went out and got what they know about a subject by actually doing it. These kinds of people aren't able to explore everything in the world, but from what they have come across, they usually have a very deep understanding of.
Is your character romantic?
  • (Yes) Your character is affectionate, comfortable with romance, and open to love. This can be as friends or as something more. This person would be the type to sit with another and pat them as they cry their problems out on their shoulder.

Bio:

There is nothing special about Dorian's past or present. He is just a middle-class, jaded man, who happens to be a Code Breaker. Once a kid full of hopes, dreams, and innocent ambitions, Dorian was slowly but surely molded by the harsh reality he lived in. Life sucked. It was not colorful, not full of potential. It just... sucked. And virtual criminals sucked even more. Considering how life was so terrible, why did these brats have to make it shittier? He just saw virtual criminals as manchildren. They still were kids on the inside and wanted to play villain with their "cool powers". He specifically had a headache whenever PK Fire was mentioned.

"I think the Japanese had a term for that, what was it again...chunnibyou?"

While a member of the guild Week, Dorian sometimes offers a helping hand to the Pwnies as well, mostly in regards to PK investigations. He likes to be at the frontlines to beat some sense into those damn brats. They reminded him of a certain Herald. He really disliked Herald.

"The most childish of them all."

Major Traits

What's your character's style? Are they traditional, or a free-spirit?
  • (Free-Spirit) Your character is used to doing things their own way and following their own path. They don't like going with the crowd. They prefer to live by their own code. These characters are open to most everything. They like to experiment and have no problem changing to take on new environments and situations. These are the ones who'd more likely ditch and leave a conversation if something more interesting pops up.
What is your character's way of action? Are they physical, or mental?
  • (Mental) Your character likes to take things in through their mind. They like to plan, think, imagine, and wouldn't mind spending a whole day inside their heads. Their brain holds an entire world; sometimes bigger than the one outside. Though they may like to daydream and appear as if they're not doing anything at all, they are. You just can't see it.
  • (Idealist) This character sees things for how they should be, not what they seem. An idealist is imaginative. They refuse to be stopped by how things are and try to create change needed by shooting for the stars. They are positive thinkers who have faith and trust that most times the goal can be reached -- you just have to try.
What level of openness does your character have?
  • (Extrovert) These characters charge up and refresh by spending time interacting with external life. They lose their pep when spending too much time alone; most specifically during introspection. This character feels better talking to or interacting with other people and things, sometimes with more than one item or person at once. That is good. The more the merrier! They are usually effervescent characters that handle the outside world extremely well.

Lesser Traits

What's your character's demeanor?

  • (Playful) Your character loves to play games and have fun. Joking around is a must. They may never get to the point...instead sit back and enjoy the view. Who cares if they lose a minute or two? These characters don't. Come on! Lighten up!
Which way to knowledge does your character prefer?

  • (Education) Your character places a high value on education. They likely took classes and studied a lot from books themselves. Though unlikely to reach a true and complete mastery of a single topic, these kinds of people usually know a great deal about many different subjects.
Is your character romantic?

  • (Yes) Your character is affectionate, comfortable with romance, and open to love. This can be as friends or as something more. This person would be the type to sit with another and pat them as they cry their problems out on their shoulder.

Bio:

Justice! That is the main reason of Herald's actions, or, at least, that's what he wants people to think. What he really wants is to be famous. And get the ladies. Frankly Lionel is nothing but a rich kid craving for attention (and chicks). Not a bad guy, but shallow. Despite all his characteristics (smart, handsome, rich), he was never the most popular person in any stage of his life. He was the most notorious for his eccentricity though.

But times have changed. He had a plan. Heroes here popular. Heroes served justice. JUSTICE GETS YOU THE LADIES! So he had to become a hero. And since he was a Code Breaker, he belived he would succeed. Code Breakers were the hot topic, and cool. By extension Herald was cool as well. Yet, he wanted to go beyond cool. He wanted to be a star (not the Pwn type). But not just any star: a true legend. No matter what that boring guy Ergo claimed. He is at odds with Ergo.

"My future will be the best!"

Member of the guild Week. Helps Pwnies from time to time because he has a serious crush on K (and acts surprisingly timid around her) for the sake of justice!

  • (No) Your character is oblivious to love, affection, romance, and all. This can be towards friends or anyone they see as something more. This person would rather give a tissue or direct someone to the bathroom, instead of letting them cry on their shoulder.

Bio:

Agent Minerva (real name unknown) is a mysterious governmental agent that appears from time to time for the purpose of monitoring Code Breaker activity. Sometimes helping guilds such as the Pwnies, sometimes just watching on the sidelines, nobody knows what this woman really thinks, what's her deal, or why she has a deck with mostly jokers (actually, some people find that out pretty soon). Minerva is unnerving and quite intimidating for most people. One thing is for sure: she doesn't like playing games.

For some reason she seems really interested in the PK Fire guild, specifically Ohno. While the virtual monsters are also a problem, she lets the Pwnies and Week handle the bulk of that specific problem. She has to keep dangerous criminals in check. Yet, she doesn't seem to put in any special amount of effort in finding her. She belives that if she stays around the Pwnies, she will show herself sooner or later.

"Why, you ask? Heh. Spoilers."

Bio:

While technically the cousin of Issac Gaiman Alexis acted as a big sister figure to him throughout their childhoods. The combined curiosity of the two resulted in several accidents though they also led to her developing her interest in machinery.

Discovering her codebreaking abilities several years before her cousin Alexis became a target of curiosity, envy and eventually a certain amount of irrational resentment leading to a rocky period in their relationship. Placing her training on hold Alexis instead threw herself into her work taking mechanic jobs both in the real and virtual worlds until she landed a job as an engineer at the Little City Regional Airport.

When not working Alexis generally travels outside the city either exploring on foot or simply joyriding.

Part One
Big dreams, big hopes, tiny office, tiny shoes.

A life matching that of the 'salarywoman' of ancient Japanese culture word for word, Katsura's childhood, teenage years, and days in college were as free if turbulence as they came. She gave her all in school, putting aside friends and luxury to secure the best job she possibly could, the young woman emerged from her drab years spent studying her days away within the education system to meet the brave new digital world and all its possibilities. Only to find her reality wasteful, and her childhood wasted.

The best school a scholarship could offer, the best qualifications in her year, and it hadn't earned her anything she'd wanted. An exciting life, one where she'd be able to see it all and live it up? No, rather, an office job that would keep her typing away into ungodly hours of the night was all that she'd been rewarded with. Money flowed towards her as free as water in a stream, but she was hungry, not thirsty. Hungry to experience. Starving, she pushed herself through two years of that frustrating routine, ignoring the one talent she had that could shake her free of her endless tedium. The talent she'd pushed down and buried all for the sake of the life she hated.

Months started to tick by slowly, and alcohol started to flow freely. The office. The bar. Bed. The office. The bar. Bed. The office. The bar. Bed. It wasn't like anything else mattered. Not in the world they lived in, where the present had been so callously thrown aside for the future. Where everyone was so busy looking forward, that they'd no time to spare for themselves. Everything. Everyone. Living in her boring rat race of a world, Katsura couldn't care about any of it. She was almost ready to just abandon it all.

Until that email- or perhaps piece of harassment was a better term- calling for that useless 'talent' she'd gone out of her way to neglect arrived. For all she knew it was just a prank from some asshole from her college years. But if she was already about to give up, a little bit of embarrassment wasn't going to hurt. Hell, it'd be better than whatever the fuck she was living with now.

Code Breaking, huh? As good of an excuse as any to break the bank and finally do something interesting with her life, she guessed.

Part Two
Junior Guild Master.

In the month following her invitation into the Code Breaking world, K quickly began to involve herself in routines not too dissimilar from her previous life. Mountains of paperwork, that is. Taking the role of Junior Guild Master with a surprising seriousness. She's taken care to keep tabs on the activities of her fellow guild members, even those who've distanced themselves from the group in the month since its founding. Juinor was right, because it halfway felt like babysitting.

Her efforts to befriend her guildmates, for the most part, have gone uneventfully. Years of resentfully working in and office stunt one's social abilities, it would seem, and without a glass of whiskey in her hands and many more in her stomach, there's little she has to offer in the face of the roguish charms or mysterious charisma of her fellow guildmates.

But that's a personal problem, she has plenty of work to drown it out in, and old dogs don't learn new tricks.

Though, she figured she was still a good two years away from 'old'.

In the meantime, she's taken Code Breaking jobs at a steady pace, generally focusing on taking a more diplomatic approach to her given tasks than her death-spewing satellite would suggest. She still avoids anything related to big business and shows a bias for missions involving the rival guild PKFire, stemming from their cut-short airport encounter. In her spare time she's gone out of her way to investigate the disappearance of her... Perhaps former guildmate 'Black Gold', either out of fear from her final words, a responsibity as Junior Master, or a curiosity as of yet unstated.

Real name: Giles de Luca
Age: 19
Gender: Male

Personality:
  • Free-spirit: While Giles's family circumstances had kept him entrapped within a life of caution, his father and his father's men had also been the ones to teach him that a "true man" forged his own path. Young Giles took this as license to begin his grand project of learning about the Virtual World and the people who populated it, both at their best and their worst.
  • Physical: Giles's reality is grounded in the corporeal world: life's too short to spend it put-putting around in your thoughts. He has a fine appreciation for food and drink, but knows to moderate himself.
  • Careful: Long shadows in dark alleyways used to plague his nightmares. He retains some of that same paranoia from his childhood; while he appears to welcome people easily into his life, the truth is that he is always evaluating their motivations.
  • Realist: His father's ruthless business models quickly opened his eyes to the ugly side of humanity from a young age. Others might see him as a rich kid playing at being poor (which he is), but he harbors no romanticizations of the lives of so-called "normal" people. While he questions the current state of the Virtual World, he is hesitant to align himself with self-proclaimed justice-seekers.
  • Extrovert: Giles is not a shy man. He likes to make friends from all sorts of places and strongly values harmony within the collective group.
Lesser Traits
  • Playful: A cheeky smirk is his most common expression, which occasionally makes his enemies (and friends) want to punch him in the face. He knows that matters of life and death deserve gravity, but sometimes he can't help but see the humor in the direst of situations.
  • Experience: The only way you can learn something is by experiencing it; hence, his long journey throughout the Virtual World. This mentality was in part cultivated by his father's work, which can be considered a rather "hands-on" affair.
  • Non-romantic: Sometimes his words can be misconstrued as flirtatious in nature, but this is more a form of teasing to observe a reaction rather than a serious attempt at starting a relationship. In fact, Giles avoids any kind of personal commitment like the plague.
Bio:
Born to a relatively large and wealthy family, Giles never wanted for anything in his childhood. However, he was taught that personal connections were more important than material objects, a principle that was solidified by his interactions with the men within his father's inner circle. Thus, while he retains an assertive air of a person used to having his opinion heard and respected, he can hardly be described as a spoilt heir oblivious to the difficulties of others. In fact, his father is almost adamant about not passing his business into the hands of his son, as he feels that his boy is unsuitable for heading his corporation. Because his father was often absent from home or otherwise busy with work, Giles was exceptionally close with his mother, often clinging to her skirts as a child. As he grew older, he spent more and more time with his father's trusted men who'd been tasked with his protection, viewing them as older brothers he never had. While they would often dote on him and take him out to play, there was a line they never crossed, and that was the rule of his safety above all; there were tense periods when he was not allowed to exit the house at all and others when strange cars would follow him from school. While he gradually came to understand the intricacies of his father's world, he always kept a healthy distance away -- both out of his father's concern for him than his own caution.

As his father placed a heavy emphasis on education, Giles was enrolled into an elite private school to better further his studies. While he was praised as one of the quicker students of his grade level, schoolwork was boring to him and he wanted to enter the real world quickly. It was also around the time of his early teens that he began manifesting his Codebreaking abilities, which made it easier for him to cut classes or slip away to do things more worthwhile, such as interacting with the world outside of his insulated bubble of money and privilege. Despite his spotty attendance, he managed to graduate a year early at the age of seventeen. However, he refused to enroll in college and, against his father's wishes, "ran away" to begin living on his own with the promise that he would return to receive formal education once he was twenty-one years of age. His Codebreaking abilities had also progressed to the point that he was quite capable of taking care of himself. Due to an eccentricity or obsession with the common folk (it seemed to his father), Giles insisted on being entirely self-sufficient and moved into a run-down apartment and began working in construction and odd labor jobs -- the locations of which have been kept secret from de Luca Sr. in case the man sought to interfere. Of late, Giles has also begun traveling around the virtual world.

Background:
THEME:
"You say you'd like me to tell you about myself, ha, where to begin... I suppose from the beginning would be the best place to start. I was born to Alexander Corvus and Melissa Bailey, my father a teacher and my mother a code breaker like me, who had fallen in love during some event that I wasn't made aware about. You see, I am a product of that love. For whatever reason my parent's didn't get married for and after I was finally able to go to the virtual world to begin school my mother left, not exactly sure why but life carried on. I went to school, though went is an overstatement. I wasn't much for school, I spent most of my time skipping off to run around and explore, much to my fathers dismay, and after several groundings and punishments he eventually gave up, seeing as I never did learn my lesson. As I was growing up I always wondered what it would be like to be one of those code breaker people that I had heard so much about. Soon after that I had began to find out my true calling was that of a code breaker, and of course I was a natural, I am me after all, hahaha. But in all seriousness I enjoyed it, being able to manipulate the world around me. Of course I got caught doing things I shouldn't have been a few times, and had to use my charming smile and quick wit to get out of them, but it all worked out for the best in the end"

"And of course I've been around my fair share, from the quick get rich schemes to the higher up protection jobs that were available, I'm a code breaker of all trades, I do what I can to earn money, and of course the attention we get from the ladies is nice too, though it is dangerous work. For example once I was asked to clear out a lab of these disgusting creatures once, real hard case, it was one of those get rich quick schemes. Not even sure what they were called, wasn't allowed to ask questions and the like, but it was a dangerous mission, I nearly died killing the thing, of course all by myself and all, but it was what happened after that got me. I guess the grogginess and pain that came with being logged in so long and fighting that hard battle got to me, I ended up fainting and hitting my head off my rooms desk, got this nasty scar because of that. But any ways, its not like doing these things will actually kill us, just good to know that there are limitations to what our bodies can take is all. Oh yes, and getting back to my mom, I'm still looking for her, haven't been able to find her yet unfortunately, I just want her to know that I'm alright and I turned out at least somewhat like her. The only thing I have left of her is this bandanna, and its not even a material possession. I don't even know where my mom is in the real world, I had always at of course it really wasn't, not even my dad knows where she is now, in the real or virtual worlds, so now I'm just looking in here."

Bio:
Former member of the PK Guild HellzOnEarth of floor 10, he now works full-time as an employee of Cafe Suit on floor ???. He doesn't talk much of his past. Or at all, really. Seems to enjoy quietly doing his work and maintains a close relationship with his employer, Spades, who he apparently knows in real life. JinX knows him as a gentle, helpful co-worker. Prince knows him as the pushover waiter that can't seem to say no. Indeed, whether it's making deliveries for Spades in oddly dangerous places or entertaining female customers with their requests, Blaze rarely turns others down. One can almost say he's trying to compensate for something. When he's not working, he seems to enjoy motor racing and watching vehicles/drivers compete. He owns a virtual motorbike that he's quite proud of.

Due to his past, Blaze avoids returning/being forced home whenever possible.

Members of HellzOnEarth tend to be violent and enjoy creating chaos for the sake of it. Troublemakers and arsonists to the core. Their guild motto is 'We Bring the Fire', their guild leader is a Codebreaker named Surtr, and they have a bad relationship with the top guild of floor 10, Lolipop. Blaze DuBurn was no different...at least until met a certain girl; A Non-Breaker named Leslie whose disappearance from the virtual world would ultimately drive the stake between him and Surtr,

An EX-American soldier, Lloyd didn't have much do but log on to virtual reality since, with the way things are, war between nations doesn't exist anymore. Or, at least, war in the REAL sense. Upon discovering he was a Codebreaker he worked with IWA for a bit (where he met Spades) before deciding it wasn't for him and swapping to mercenary work, with an emphasis on security. It was there, on the job, that he met the woman who would be his wife. Well, virtual wife. He would very much like to meet her in person should the ozone layer ever be fixed, but some things couldn't be helped. It was at her behest that he moved to Little City (where they'd bought a nice little virtual house), obtained PhD in English, and became a lecturer at Duchamp University where he'd been teaching undergraduate English ever since.

Since the World Update, he's been getting more students in his class for whatever reason.
