She loves children and as a child was close to her brother. Nilak is always putting the group's needs above her own, often to the point of her becoming sick. She has a calm and commanding figure which people can't help but admire along with leadership skills as well as being a good tracker and hunter. She is loyal and sees her group as her new family, choosing death over betraying her group. Although Nilak detests fighting, she sees it as sadly unavoidable if she is to keep herself alive. Nilak tends to go with the flow, her movement being fluid like the water water moves across the land. She is level headed and intelligent, doesn't rush blindly into situations, but can get quiet when asked about her past.

Nilak plaits or braids her hair, having two hair loopies on the sides of her head that are secured with blue beads which symbolize healing. She wears traditional southern water tribe clothing consisting of a navy blue tunic with slits cut in the sides to allow better movement, blue trousers and black boots which is her summer wear. Winter wear consists of a light blue anorak, dark blue pants, black pants and powder blue mittens that are lined and trimmed with white fur, including the hood of her anorak. She wears a large waterskin pouch along one hip so she can always bend water or use it to heal others or herself along with a rucksack of herbs and clothing with a navy blue sleeping bag. She also carries a picture with her of her family...before the attack...a memory frozen in a photograph of a more happier and peaceful time.

Brief Backstory: Nilak was born two years after her brother Vikram to a firebender soldier and a southern watertribe prisoner who was released after three years in a fire nation prison when it was proven she hadn't been part of a plot to overthrow the fire nation capital. It turned out that her mother was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but due to the tensions between the fire nation and water tribes, her mother was considered automatically guilty. Both children were born benders, Vikram a firebender like their father and Nilak a waterbender like their mother. When Nilak was seven and Vikram was nine, their parents were killed because their father couldn't make the rent on their home and the children were nearly killed. That was when the children were separated...until they were reunited on a trip to the fire nation with her uncle. She was then sent on ahead after being with her brother and joined the group in search of the avatar, in hopes of bringing peace again to the land and reuniting with her big brother for good.
Other: She is the younger sister of Vikram and her name means 'fresh water ice' in Inuit. She is a capable water bender and healer.
