NEXT!

(This game is about superheroes that get sponsored and bid on. Capitalist/Corporatist Setting. If you want an anime that does this sub-genre justice, then watch Tiger & Bunny. I got some inspiration from that, but this is not Tiger & Bunny the game, this is a unique home brew setting.)

The game takes place in Star City a futuristic/slightly dystopian in some aspects combination of New York/Chicago. In Star City it is illegal to use your metahuman abilities unless you have an Agent which in return will find sponsors and jobs for you. Not all Metahuman of course are superheroes or crime fighters. Some assist in other mundane jobs where their abilities fit, say a fire user might be an excellent cook. However you'd still need an agent to represent you.

Not all Metahumans come out and advertise their abilities and many manage to keep them a secret for most of their lives, but the moment you are discovered, your abilities belong to the city.

You will all belong to an Agency Firm which will get you all different sponsors, and together you'll represent this firm and your sponsors as a group on the popular hit tv show NEXT! which goes around following legal supers and broadcasts their missions and activities.

When the game goes live, I'll post all the information I have on NEXT!, its hosts. Your Firm, potential sponsors you can pick from, various factions and just more information on the culture in general from Star City.

  • [*]This game will use Mutants and Masterminds 3rd edition. The free SRD can be found @Skari\-dono @Orzhov

Of course the game is open to anyone who wants to join, not just the users above. So if you wish to play please post below.

Have the book (and a lot of 2nd edition ones) but rarely find anyone interested in an M&M game. Never made a character for 3rd edition but interested in joining!

New houserule:

Teleportation shouldn't go above rank 3, it really breaks the game.

I also reserve the right to ask you to change any combinations of powers you have if I think they are too broken.

For example @Lord of Chaos pointed out that Reactive Attack with Teleport means that anyone who hits you, can get sent up a few hundred feed into the air, instantly killing anyone with out flight or other similar abilities.

Interested.

I intend to make an Incorporeal Ghost Wizard, or possibly a Super-Strong Super-Fast Samurai. EIther or. Magic is a Definite likelyhood.

Also guys odd skills and things like performance, cooking, etc are all welcomed, no matter how silly they will be used. Your firm might ask you to do different things to promote, etc.

I am not sure at all what I will make but I will play. I just might want to see what other people are doing first.

I'm going to be revisiting the Edward character I played in an earlier Supers game. Immortal regeneration, but mostly just very skilled from a long life. Goes by the name The Paladin. Dislikes the title as he wasn't actually a peer of Charlemagne. Fights with assault rifle and sword.

I will make a Wizard, or a Samurai. The Samurai, is forced to pretend to be a Ninja, and hates it.

The Wizard is forced to project a wise and Mysterious persona, despite being an arrogant young man, who just graduated from College a year ago, and stumbled on to magic nearly on accident- and turned out to be a natural.

I'm going to make the ultimate urban explorer. Short range blink teleports, night/x-ray vision, pull based telekinesis (that she can also use to maneuver using the Swinging power) Empowered by extradimensional entities, she serves as their herald in this world, and is sponsored by a front organization for their cult. Or something.

Recruit the Wizard I'm making in to the Dark Fold! ooooh! Con- I have plans, if you are willing to Collaberate, and the DM Permits it. Heheh. (Likes Cults.)

Looking through my old heroes ideas for 2nd edition, I think I might play a rendition of one of my favourites. Being African-American, he appears as a guy from the ghetto who turns to heroics to save his street and 'hood, although in truth he comes from a stable home and even studied at the local university (probably something useless or obscure). As for power-sets, something simple I suppose: Strength, durability. I guess I'll be building a tank or a Superman ripoff.

I was considering a tank or paragon myself, admittedly though I'm still trying to hammer out things. He's likely going to be a guy just trying to live up to the ideals of being a hero even if at times it might frustrate our corporate masters with some of his antics.

I have some alternative ideas so I won't step on your toes :)

Perhaps a telekinetic type of guy. Had an idea for one for another game so I might adapt him to this setting.

I'm working on a guy who specialises on unarmed combat, enhancing his skills with his minor pyrokinetic abilities and hamming up his hero persona as much as possible so he can have fun with it. As a civilian he probably makes watches or something similarly precision based.

Okay, so far my idea is a flying energy zapper (flez) focused on lightning. Limited range engagement, energy entangle, more like a whip than a bolt. Some small force field capability, deciding on personal and/or area bubble. Not sure about 3e rules, so may need modification based on my 2e build software.

I've got a goofy idea that my character's hero persona is shilled by her sponsor as a heel, a la Macho Man Randy Savage, but outside of costume she does lots of charity work and is generally a nice person to be around.
