News & Updates New Server

Hey all,

Yesterday we updated the site's server and, as is tradition, here are the specs for those of you who like to see tech stuff:
  • AMD Ryzen 9950X
  • 192 GB DDR5 ram
  • 2 x 3.84TB PCIE4 NVMe SSDs
  • 10 Gbps network speed
This is in preparation for some future site updates that are coming up this year, and it's about that time when we poke our datacenter host for a new deal.

The actual site data is only about 650 GB. We have other things going on in the server besides RpNation, and the reason there are two drives is for redundancy, so only about 3.5 TB is usable. We also keep some snapshots around for quick recovery if something goes wrong, like a fire at the datacenter. This increases storage usage beyond what the actual live data uses.
It amazes me how much can be put in so small a space when terabyte hard drives and SSDs exist. Also, gigabit per second RAM exist. I feel I am still stuck on modem.

I remember the datacenter fire. That was a rough time for staff and member alike. Thank you folks again for your efforts in patching all of that.

Can we expect the update to disrupt existing BBcode as some have in the past (as in change something that causes coded posts to break)?

All bbcodes should be 1:1 with the update. I am working on a new theme for the site and the site width might change, that will disrupt things slightly but we are always trying to make sure theme changes don't disrupt bbcodes.

Looking forward to most of the changes honestly.
the new editor, hosted projects and post macros are what I am looking up for the most.
the bbcode engine update not so much as I am not one of the wizards of bbcode here so most of it will probably fly over my head.
