News & Updates New Server

Hey all,

Yesterday we updated the site's server and, as is tradition, here are the specs for those of you who like to see tech stuff:
  • AMD Ryzen 9950X
  • 192 GB DDR5 ram
  • 2 x 3.84TB PCIE4 NVMe SSDs
  • 10 Gbps network speed
This is in preparation for some future site updates that are coming up this year, and it's about that time when we poke our datacenter host for a new deal.

I can't wait to see what you all have in the works.
  • New Hosted Project system
  • New Editor
  • Updates to PMs/Threads
  • New BBCode Engine update that Alteras Alteras and FaithWynters FaithWynters along with other helpers have been working on for a hot minute.
  • Mobile Apps back on iOS And Android
  • Notification system updates
  • Replying via Email to the site
  • Post Macros
  • And much more up and down the board.
  • Possibly new dice roller
I don't want to tease or reveal too much, though :P.

-fans self with hand- You mean there's more?? x.x

Oh yes. It's while I've been quiet for months. The goal is to start an RpN update journal and start showcasing and revealing more in the forseeable future.

The whole of the site can be put onto 8 TB? *whistles*, impressive if so. I would have wagered it to be larger even if compressed.

I am super excited to see a new dice roller!

Yay! This is all great to hear! Keep up the amazing work you guys!

The actual site data is only about 650 GB. We have other things going on in the server besides RpNation, and the reason there are two drives is for redundancy, so only about 3.5 TB is usable. We also keep some snapshots around for quick recovery if something goes wrong, like a fire at the datacenter. This increases storage usage beyond what the actual live data uses.

Are the new updates related to that site layout beta test a year or two ago or was that scrapped for these exciting new things? ๐Ÿ‘€

That was the first time ever we lost posts in the site's history :(.

We mourn those posts till this day, I know the amount was so small and the people effected just reposted, but that caused us to go from backing up the site every hour to every five minutes lol.

We beta a lot of things, so maybe not. We've scrapped a lot since 2020, like I mean a lot lol.

Very interesting. I'm still quite new to forums like this in general and I've been learning BBCode so I'm curious to see if that BBCode engine makes things easier or more difficult lol

Especially excited to see those mobile apps.
