Thicker Than Water

Kinsley closed her eyes to the familiar sound of a sword clashing. The perpetual lullaby of a good brawl echoing from ear to ear. A breath of air tumbled past her barely parted lips as she took it all in, still stationed against the wall she’d become so comfortable against. Did she have any intention of moving anytime soon? Not really. They were doing just fine. It would just be an insult to Damian, one of the few whose opinions mattered, if she dared get involved in his spar.

So she simply didn’t. A tiresome sound followed when everything went quiet and still. The clash of battle was no longer resonating like a live orchestra around her. A pair of blue eyes peered out and immediately settled on the ebony tousled hair of Kraken. Those eyes narrowed the slightest as she finally left the perch she’d been so comfortably nestled into.

She followed behind him, peering at the ground with an intense disinterest. At the sound of more voices, new ones, her eyes rose to stare at the scene before her.

Raphael Shaw was amongst the many bodies within view along other familiar faces. There was one she didn’t quite recognize but he was still breathing so clearly he wasn’t an enemy or the Serpents would’ve provided him with the same five star treatment the rest of the enemies they’d come across in this place had been given. She resisted chiming in with some snarky remark or running over to Peyton.

Raph looked worse for wear. Not that she’d voice it or let it reflect within her wandering gaze. They all truthfully looked like shit. A ghastly smile stretched across her face in his direction as the voices within her head whispered many things. They seemed pleased he was alive too, strangely enough.

Kinsley didn’t utter a single word but instead she shrugged idly in response, peering behind her towards where they’d come. Not a likely way out.

Kisara’s current state was troublesome and Kinsley felt a shred of remorse for the girl. They were friends, not something she could call many. So the sight of her in such a disheveled and exhausted state was concerning. Kinz scrunched her nose up at the rising feeling that she knew was an inkling of actual care. It felt foreign.

She breathed heavily and instinctively reached forward to grab Damian’s hand for a semblance of comfort. A rare notion. The other two already had a grip on Kisara to help her, otherwise she would’ve carried Kisara herself. It wouldn’t have posed too much of a problem for the symbiote and herself combined but Kinsley was relieved that others cared enough about Kisara to step forward and help her escape this shit hole. Even Raph himself, despite his current appearance and predicament, was helping. A minuscule amount of respect dredged it way into existence as she watched.

That was something there was little show of amongst them - The Serpents. Actual concern. The gang wasn’t known for picking flowers and skipping through fields with one another. Without realizing it, her grip tightened within Kraken’s grasp as she peered around the room, eyes flickering from face to face. What a dysfunctional family they all were. Sabrina spoke up and Kinz’s stare lingered on her for probably longer than necessary.

She found herself curious as to the answer to that question too. There hadn’t been many answers this entire time. Just lots of violence, not that she minded it. It was the most thrilling part of this entire escapade but answers were starting to feel necessary. Though leaving this sewer smelling establishment was quickly taking precedence over any answers. It stunk like death and Kinsley had a feeling they weren’t going to all hold hands and sing kumbaya anytime soon.

The Dragon and the Phoenix

Libla was still a bit miffed with the whole situation, especially Kaeda, she knew that she had done something to Lyric, it was clear when she scolded her a while back, something Lyric typically wouldn't do. Libla was part of the group of Phoenixs she actually liked, especially with how caring and compassionate she was, though she hasn't saw any of that ever since their scuffle with YY, Kaeda and the Dragons that attacked them. Being left in the dark wasn't something new to her, as Helva does it a lot of the time, though keeping information to herself and a few confidants was kinda expected of them. Though with YY , they wouldn't really expect them to be so elusive with things, Libla eventually let out a sigh as YY explained how their relationship with Lyric, while it was true, Lyric did seem to hold YY in high regard, she was still bit suspicious of what YY and her team were up to, but decided to play along since she seemed keen to help Vulken, who she doubted was part of this whole situation.

Though she eventually relented taking Kaeda away from the place while holding the orb of darkness in her hand, she moved towards the direction Helva was in, until she was finally able to hear Lyrics voice. She was a bit suspicious of what was said by Lyric, considering their outburst from earlier, Kaeda seemed to have done something to them but she didn't know what exactly. Though Lyrics screaming did cause her to stop, as she focused in on her, she couldn't help but wonder if this was Kaedas doing, or the real Lyric, Helva would of been able to find out quickly, but she wasn't Helva, and Libla hadn't exactly noticed Kaeda gaining consciousness yet, much to worried about the other things around them, especially the Dragon King that appeared behind them. Libla now caught in a stand still between getting Kaeda towards Helva, so she can deal with them and going to Lyrics side. She eventually got a bit frustrated with the entire ordeal, and instead of moving around, she opted to relay all the information she has to Helva so that she could make a sound decision for her, cursing under her breath at the situation she is being put in. One hand being beckoned by YY to get Kaeda off the field and another wishing to protect Lyric, despite whatever Kaeda had done to them.

THE DRAGON AND THE PHOENIX

Burn them all.

Those three words violently bounced off the walls of Draken’s mind, each idle second holding the door open for more pounding throbs to assault the temples of his face. His great display of power continued to roar loudly, rhythmically tearing through the air like a primal beast beating its chest to warn attackers of the dangers that came with approaching further.

Two birds, one blazing hot stone. His focus was solely directed towards the two upper echelons ahead of him, ignoring everything else in his surroundings. These thoughts– cravings of raw, mindless and untethered brutality that he had worked so hard to get under control… There was no way he could hold them back anymore.

And, just as he lifted his foot to take his first step into war, the ground shifted.

For the first time since he’d arrived on this battlefield, Draken thought about something other than incinerating everything in his path. Citrus eyes shifted to the concrete beneath him, puzzled by what they were seeing.

An… earthquake…?

He planted his feet harder into the ground to maintain his balance, but the roughness of the tremors only picked up more and more with every passing second. His gaze returned to his opponents, and he looked up just in time to see Officer Hulk fall to his knee. His confused gaze quickly became a sharpened glare, locking onto his distracted target. He took another step forward, flames now pointing in Chikage’s direction, eager to melt off the skin it had missed in their very first encounter..

Burn them ALL, NOW–

Turn around, Kenny!

In an instant, his head whipped back, with his body following shortly after to do a 180 spin to face the voice that had called out to him… or did it?

...YY?

It was rare for his friend to exclaim loudly like that, even in a situation like this. And her voice didn’t quite sound right, either. He shook his head. Wherever that voice had come from, he thanked it– for it had reminded him that there were still things more important than fighting right now.

...I’ll kill you later. Both ‘a you.” He grunted under his breath, before dashing forward to meet Yong-Yut halfway. In a single motion, he ducked down, sweeping his friend off of their feet to carry them bridal-style before directing his heat into his legs and blasting off of the shaking ground with a thunderous, explosive lift-off.

Now airborne, Vulken clutched Yong-Yut tightly as to not drop her, apologizing multiple times for touching her without permission as they soared through the sky and away from all the chaos.

Oi, YY. Where are the others headed–

Before he could finish asking his question, a familiar silhouette caught his eye. An even bigger prize was making his descent not too far away from them.

Suddenly, the heat that had all been condensed into his legs began to slowly make its way throughout his entire body again.

In the distance there was a flash- two new figures on the scene.

A frenzied smile adorned Hide’s lips, wide enough to feel the ache. With one last laugh, he kicked Deryn hard in the abdomen, rolling so he could shuffle back onto his feet. He huffed, panting a response, “Karma’s a bitch? Then what are YOU?!” Hide laughed, throwing his head back.

Oof. Deryn felt winded as she was kicked off of Hide, using the momentum to roll further away, maintaining more distance while she recovered. ”SHUT UP!” She held one hand to her body while she glared up at Hide. ”It’ll only make things worse for you. You think you’re leaving this place on your own terms? It’s cuffs or a bodybag.”

She then began to get back up, “I know what I’d prefer for scum like you though.”

It was right then and there that Nilin and Irwin stepped into the scene.

A shadow landed out of nowhere on Hide’s side, Nilin’s armoured rabbit-like foot arced as he twisted his hips and his leg came blurring towards Hide’s legs to sweep him off the ground completely. The one thing Dante had said if met with foreign enemies was to avoid killing them in case they were related to any of the four gangs-- doesn’t mean he wouldn’t if it came down to it though.

His leg swept the ground under Hide’s feet and as he came up, jumped backwards-- rabbit ears wide open for even the slightest shift of sound around him.

Hide scoffed, “Oh yeah? You- AGH-” but before he could get another word in, he fell to his side harshly, his already bleeding head smacking against the hard floor. He groaned in pain, slowly staggering back to his feet with a hand holding his head.

Deryn watched the scene unfold as the back-up showed, retaining a look of infuriated disgust for Hide. “Took you long enough. We already lost two.” Really, she couldn’t place any blame on the newcomer guards, but she had too much anger to expel. She clutched her wounded arm, feeling the pain now that she had a break from the action. “His accomplice fled to Floor 9,” she took a moment to remember if that was the button she could see Raquel had pressed, nodding when she confirmed it to herself.

Irwin split off shortly after hearing that.

Hide glared at the newcomer, glancing at his opponent's rabbit features with a mocking grin on his face. With a cough of a bloodied breath, he wiped it away with the back of his hand, bending down to pick up his previously abandoned crowbar. “Well well~. “ The white and black haired man crooned, “Look what we got here.” Hide pointed his crowbar with an extending arm, a vile sneer of a smile planted on his face. He pointed to Nilin, “A bunny wabbit.” Then to Deryn, “And a pigeon.” The scarred man banged the metal to the ground, two loud CLANGs reverberating the room. “Just a couple’ a rodents who are seeking a death wish!” he uproared a cackle, throwing his head back.

Hide readied his feet on the ground, leaping forward aiming to hit his crowbar to the side of his head.

“Times up!” The clinking of metals could be heard as a chain encircled Hide’s ankle mid-leap, pulling him down. A pink haired, sunglass-wearing man in a casino Valet uniform held the other end of the chain that started to reel Hide towards the exit at the corner of Leporid Stage. “Lookie, I caught him~!”

It was a voice Deryn, or anyone listening, would’ve recognized from the security radio.

Deryn snarled, ready to strike Hide down for his words alone, but stayed wisely out of range of his wild crowbar swings. Clouded with anger and pain, she hadn’t noticed the new arrival until he had chains around their target. She looked over in surprise, before walking over.

“We had already caught him. His accomplice is being dealt with upstairs, we should expect her capture soon.” There wasn’t any malice in her tone as she addressed Zach, though her face darkened for a moment, “if it were my choice, I wouldn’t be this merciful.”

She looked up and down Zach’s uniform, like she was looking for something.

“But thank you… uh…” She was looking for a name. Deryn had already figured he was the colleague that had answered her call for backup like Irwin and Nilin, but she knew them, not him. Her voice trailed off as she waited for him to fill the blanks.

“Doug,” Zach replied amiably, angling his body so Deryn got a better view of the name tag that came with the uniform. He continued to pull a cursing, clawing Hide towards him, knowing well that the white-haired man was likely under one of his stressed-induced crack moments. Otherwise, Spell-binder would’ve recognized him immediately since he hadn’t done that much to disguise himself. Then again, resistance made the act all the more believable.

“Don’t worry, I got this!” A hand casually slipped into his pocket while his other hand continued to tug at the chain, winding it further around his fist. “I’ll bring him to the security room so the bosses can decide how to deal with him~You two should go help the others; There are more accomplices downstairs. ”

Click!

Nilin’s ears twitched.

As if on cue, explosions started to sound from the ground floor.

Nilin’s ears perked, and a small look of displeasure formed as he watched Zach yank Hide away. He had this odd feeling from just a second ago, like something wasn’t right. He could have sworn he heard something just now when he moved his hand into his pocket but he couldn’t be sure, with how tight things were it was better not to dwell on it yet. Still though- the Chimeric ally did not shift his attention away from Zach in full. He tapped Deryn, a sign that they should back off, let Zach handle this. At the same time in on his wrist, the watch hissed and words murmured out at a low volume that he could hear. “On it. Deryn” He nudged her. Intent on not moving until she had but knowing where their priorities needed to shift.

Deryn tensed up when she heard the sounds of distant explosions, still feeling rattled from the violence she had witnessed and partaken in. She said nothing to Nilin but stepped forward when he nudged her, walking toward Hide. She pressed a boot down on his ankle, stepping hard.

“Hurry, but don’t underestimate him. He and his lot, they are vicious. Show him no mercy, that’s my recommendation. I’m going to check the floor for any stragglers, I’ll be back down soon. Sounds like they need help down there.”

Deryn continued to watch Zach and Hide, waiting to see them leave her sight before she’d continue her duties.

Hide yowled In pain at the sharp pressure on his ankle. With another tug on the chain by his ankle, he attempted one last lunge at the bird lady, but of course failed, collapsing back onto his stomach. He mouthed, ‘Fried. Chicken. Bitch.’ Before he turned to his pink haired ally with a murderous glare.

Zach smirked at the murderous glare. “Will do!”

Once Hide was within reach, he pulled the Phoenix to his feet, wrapped the rest of the chain around the white haired man’s body, and dragged him out the exit. The doors to the Leporid Stage closed behind them.

Hide struggled against the chains, arms flexing to try and break out of them. The only good that served him was the metal achingly digging into his flesh. He grunted “Fuck- let me go shitty glasses!

“Okay, okay~But only after we get far enough away.” Zach whispered into Hide’s ear.

He undid the chains once they neared the stairwell–hopefully far enough away so that Nillin’s ears couldn’t reach. “Excellent improv skills, by the way. I didn’t know you had it in you~”

With another wildly harsh glare, Hide snarled. Pushing his palms on Zach’s chest to shove him away. His face red from a mix of embarrassment from Zach so close to his ear and pure anger. “Improv my ass! If those chains fucking touch me again- I will rip your throat out!” He huffed, crossing his arms.
He narrowed his eyes before glancing up at the ceiling. “Whatever. Either way I’m gettin’ up there to KILL that fucking cannibal…

Stepping back a bit, so as to regain balance from the shove, Zach bent over and laughed since he knew the reason for Hide’s anger. “Up the stairs it is then!”

Distraction they might’ve been, but Zach wasn’t one to leave behind “family”. The time to leave was nigh–as soon as the earthquake started, in fact. His instincts told him so. But of course, there was another set of instincts that told him to test his limits. “Should we get you a disguise as well?”

Hide’s stare, unimpressed, glared at him. “What am I, Barbie?” He waved Zach off with a flick of his wrist. “You might be into that lame shit, but I sure as hell ain’t.” He smirked, a mean smile gracing his lips. The scarred boy stretched his arms in front of him, his joints pleasantly popping to his relief. “Besides, why should we care what a bunch of soon to be dead nobodies think?

“Barbie only wishes she had a stylist like me~” Zach replied smugly as he climbed the stairs. He pushed up his sunglasses. “What others think don’t matter as much as how you feel about your appearance, least of all in the face of nobodies, but that’s beside the point.” He paused dramatically. “Lame? Lame??? It’s strategy, my man! I’ll have you know, Spellbinder, that some of the best hitmen and assassins use disguises to take out their targets. Ever seen a ninja from the East district? In fact, if you look through Amestria’s history of violence, you’ll find many successful killers that employ stealth tactics to defeat their enemies. Within gangs as well! One such famous person, in order to slip into enemy territory where she was greatly outnumbered, and take out an HP with vastly overwhelming strength…”

And so the conversation dragged on and on as the two Phoenixes went up, though whether Zach managed to convince Hide to don a disguise remained to be seen.

The Dragon and the Phoenix

“Of course!” Meirin replied confidently, flexing her muscles in demonstration. “Leave it to me!”

Truthfully, the constant unmonitored growing and shrinking (but mainly growing) she'd been doing throughout this entire escapade left her stamina a little drained, but this was what she trained for. Twenty laps around the East District was her morning ritual, so Central should be a breeze.

She nodded gratefully at the illusions that highlighted all the little people before picking up the Ace of the Azure Dragons, carefully putting him on her shoulder, and barreling down the roads of Central-back the way they came.

“Hold on tight!” the 20-meter tall giant warned–a little too late–as she ran, brown hair billowing in the wind. Each step was like thunder, further adding to the shaking of the city, but Meirin didn’t pay little details much mind. With a sprinting stride nearing 60 feet, it didn’t take her long to cross Central, back to the area that overlooked SEC Bridge. Along the way, she grabbed any stragglers that Isaiah highlighted…as well any she spotted that seemed to need help.

A Dragon that seemed to be fighting off a group of Phoenixes.

A Phoenix that seemed to have fainted from all the aphrodisiac in the air.

A girl that seemed to be lost amidst all the chaos.

It didn’t matter. She put them all in her pocket. When a radio tower on her path started to imitate the Leaning Tower of Pizza, Meirin’s shoulder (the one Isaiah wasn’t on) was already there. A grunt and a shove straightened it back up. Well, no. It still looked a little crooked, but she didn’t have the time to be all artistic about it.

A whistle drew Meirin’s attention to a tiny Kanna in the sky and Meirin’s eyes brightened. “Ka-Orbit!”

Aliases were so confusing.

Following the Jack’s line of flight to an area on the ground that seemed to be shrouded in darkness, Meirin rolled her eyes before tossing up her middle finger at the shadow-maker . She didn’t have time for this. Couldn’t they see that…

“THAT'S ENOUGH! THIS PLACE IS COMIN' DOWN. GET BACK OVER THE RIVER, NOW!”

Auburn eyes shot over to where the Phoenix King stood atop a tall building. Momo? Lyric? Did it matter? Merin’s shoulder sagged in relief at sound of some fucking common sense.

“You heard her!!” Meirin bellowed at some of the still battle-frenzied Dragons and Phoenixes, her voice booming. “This battle is over!!! Dragons pull back! Back to the East District, NOW!!!”

Then Shen descended.

Silence.

Dragons, who were much more prone to order, stilled their gazes drifting up. Fear? Reverence? All one and the same, really. Meirin had to admit, that part of their King was seriously impressive…the ditzy parts as well. From breaking a bridge to absentmindedly staring at clouds, no one knew what he would do–an unpredictable Tempest.

Meirin had no idea if Shen was back to his old self or not, but she took him not blindly attacking Lyric/Momo as a good sign. His eyes didn’t seem as clouded. Displeased, certainly, but the chaotic scene before him was hardly a pleasing sight. On the contrary, the Dragon King floated behind the Phoenix King as if backing her words…maybe? Meirin only had her gut to go on…and she tended to see things through rose-colored lenses.

Therefore, when Vulkie appeared looking rather heated, Meirin cut between the Steel Tempest and the tiny burning man in the sky, fist slamming into her flat palm in warning. She was still an Azure Dragon. She promised Ruri that she would protect Shen.

Whether Shen was someone worth protecting was still to be determined. “Give us your orders, King!”

Not all potentials were strong. Not all could fly. If the bridges collapsed before people could get across, they'd be stranded in a shaking District. Police territory at that.

But of course, regardless of how big she had to grow, even if she had to swim across, she'd get her friends back home.

SCENE:
Phoenixes Arc 3: Scene 3 [Whole World Blind]
LOCATION:
Lucky Rabbit Casino, West District
PARTICIPANTS:
Alicia, Charles, Dante, Hector, Hide, Yukito, Raquel, Zachariah
WHOLE WORLD BLIND

Upon hearing Yukito's words, the blue-haired phoenix turned around, staring at his now-airborne ally.

"I'm okay! I'll take care of this guy and help you out as soon as I'm done, for now focus on aiding Pharaoh!"

His attention was swiftly required somewhere else, as he heard the nearby steps of the walking corpse. Twisting his shoulders, he delivered a straight punch at the closest undead's chest, sending it flying several meters back, similar strikes following up as more zombies approached the rookie. While numerous, they turned out to be pretty easy to deal with...

That is, until they started to get back up, continuing their assault once again. Charlie clicked his tongue as he saw more of them approaching, the number of them nearby being larger now. Several of the zombies attacked at once, the Phoenix being unable to stop them all, clawing and biting at him as he struggled to swipe and kick them away. It was painful, even if his Hypercharge was strong enough for the undead to be unable to really pierce his skin, the dozens of attacks happening all at once around his body were enough cause a not-insignificant amount of damage to him, mainly in the form of bruises. Things did not get any better for him as the floor started to vibrate even more violently than before, as a result of the bombs going off in the ground level, he lost his footing, causing the rooking to fall on his back, with the undead attacking still. The boy was frustrated, part of him wish that he had been blessed with a better ability, someone like Vulken would have no issue dealing with all of them at once, instead, all he had was his arms and legs, and the limitations that came with them.

It was then, at this moment of weakness, that the words of a certain veteran came echoed through his head.

As a phoenix, family comes above anything, all else is secondary.

It was the teachings that Helva would tell him time and time again, the ones seared into his brain as a hesistant gospel.

We need to be strong, and never show our enemies mercy, for they won't show it either.

Get rid of your weakness, and destroy your foes.

The truth was that his body was not what limited him, what stopped him from succeeding on what he ought to do. Nay, from the moment this day started, what wavered, what truly shackled him, was his heart. He had never wanted to attack the place, it was never his intention to murder anyone even if they happened to be Albino Tiger, Charlie simply wanted to regain the trust of the gang he failed months ago.

But...It wasn't just about him anymore. Hector, Raquel, Hide, Yukito, Zachariah...They were giving it their all for the sake of the mission...For the sake of the family. Yet here he was, half-heartedly fending off against moving corpses, lacking the true will to hurt.

He needed to be ruthless.

He needed to be unyielding.

He needed to be a Phoenix.

Charlie thrusted his arm upwards, grabbing a hold of one of the zombies' neck, with a powerful swing, he moved the corpses around, pushing them back and toppling them over once again. He stood up, breathing heavily as he stared at the stuggling body, still trapped by his iron grip, fruitlessly clawing at Charlie's arm. With his other arm, the rookie took a hold of the corpses's shoulder.

If beating them was fruitless, then a different approach might be necessary.

His arms pulled in opposite directions, causing immense stress on the corpse, effortlessly severing head from body. Blood trailed down his arm as he stared at the still-struggling head held in grasp, before throwing both parts away.

The living dead resumed their assault as they were once again back on their feet. The rookie grinned as the adrenaline rushed back into his bloodstream, flowing stronger than ever thanks to his new-found resolve. Instead of waiting for them defensively, he rushed in.

It would be incorrect to say that the scene was that of a brave fighter facing off many attackers, no, it was more akin to that of a bloodthirsty beast going into the full offensive, tossing aside all manner of sophisticated techniques for raw, animalistic attacks. He would reach for one of the corpses and tear its limbs apart, and another one he would thrust his fist through its chest, and from the hole he would pull apart into a gory mess, another one he would simply press his hands against its head, crushing it into a bloody pulp. The rampage continued for a couple more minutes, with Charlie savagely taking the corpses apart, each time staining his body further.

As he stood among the visceral mess, the phoenix took off his jacket, this one being beyond salvation from the tearing and staining it suffered, and let it fall on the floor. Then, he wordlessly walked towards the now alone Nico, his bloodied face staring coldly at the tiger.

Claws dug into the ceiling as Dante dispersed his energy arm and sent out another- he felt something splash against him- but ignored it.

Her throwing up partially on him was the least of his concerns right now and--

He grimaced as a blade timed, almost perfectly, slashed over his forearm, slicing over the scales cleanly and digging through skin as it drew out a lace of blood as it sailed past.

An orb of energy surrounded them both and he hit the ground rolling seconds before her as he twisted mid air and chucked her a bit above him, a roll that Dante broke out of swiftly and then caught Alice immediately after.

Alice had shrieked in the momentary loss of control. Everything was happening so quickly, and only one thing was on the focus of her mind: Charlie. She hit Dante hard enough to get his attention, crying out, “Charlie’s there! We have to help him!” Tears trickled out. “He’ll help us!”

The hit, connected with his chest- and against his scales it might as well have been a friendly punch even if it did send him slightly off balance as he let her go in the process of setting her down.

The orb fizzled out- vanishing into pieces and Dante, let out a controlled breathe as he caught himself.

He’s one of the Phoenixes, he’s here to help them” Dante told her in a measured tone, not bothering to reach for her in the process either to deal with more of her struggling. “If you go, Hector will have what he wants, you. If that’s what you want I won’t stop you.” He told her bluntly. Because there was no point fighting her right now with Hector chasing them, he’d merely focus his attention on Hector.

That was a lie. A bold-faced, rear-ended lie. Charlie was not with them. He saved her life! Her first friend outside of the West!

He could see the confliction in her eyes, and it was sad that he had to be the one to break it to her. But if Alice didn’t get a reality dose soon- when would she ever stop thinking only in the positive to start seeing things in a clearer perspective.

A green limb of energy enveloped her body and grabbed her as he pulled her to the side and immediately extinguished it.

You need to wake up Alice.” His tone was hard but his expression was sad. “If Charlie isn’t among the Phoenixes, ask yourself why he was with them just now fighting some of those guards when we passed. How did Hector get past 4 Guards by himself? Do you really think this place, designed to keep you in, and keep others out- wouldn’t have better security that can counteract people with all kinds of potentials and powers? Numbers and planning are needed to get in here- my only advantage is I’m already a Tiger so they wouldn’t expect me immediately. Think about it.” He told her with a pinch of insistence. “Or go there and ask him yourself, I won’t make you do anything you don’t want. Already told you I wouldn’t again.” He turned his attention to where Hector might be appearing as the building shook again.

Better hurry too.

Alice shook her head. Ever since he began his spiel, an ugly burning flame ignited in her heart. Somewhere inside her, she knew his words were rational—sensible. They always were. Even so, the repulsive inferno reflected onto her face. “You’re wrong.” Her teeth chattered. “He… He’s here to help… You’ll see!”

With that, she spun around towards Charlie’s direction.

THE DRAGON AND THE PHOENIX
Beneath the sable sky, a city teetered on the edge of catastrophe, as if caught in the grip of some kind of ancient, sinister enchantment. Cobblestone streets whispered their secrets to the wind, while the once-bright lights of the metropolis flickered like dying embers. The cries of disoriented citizens were snatched away by gusts, carried off to a place where hope and fear collided and swirled like autumn leaves.

The ground trembled far below Shen Yue's feet, echoing the storm raging within his heart as he watched the chaos unfold. The great columns that supported Upper Central District shuddered and cracked under the relentless onslaught spiraling up from deep within the earth. The buildings in Central District groaned and swayed, threatening to topple down onto Lower Central with each tremor. Fear twisted in his gut as he surveyed the destruction, his heart racing, a tempest of anger and fear clashing within him.

Before him, Lyric Crianza, leader of the Scarlet Phoenixes, stood defiant in the face of that same chaos. He found he admired her. Despite how the tremors seemed to mock her, shaking the very foundations of her convictions, the one-time Emperor did not yield. Though, that did not mean a battle was not being waged within her heart as well, a battle between her unwavering loyalty to her gang and the growing sense that a greater cause demanded her attention.

Their gazes locked, and for a brief moment, the weight of their shared responsibility seemed to fade away, replaced by the urgency of the task at hand. The remembrance of the delicate truce that had brought them together hung in the air like the scent of an impending storm.

“'Please, do as she says!" Shen shouted as loud as he could manage. The battle between Dragon and Phoenix was over. The least a King could do was ensure the safety of his subjects. Wasn't it? Shen's eyes briefly lingered on the sight of the motionless dead far below. Many Dragons lay among them. He turned toward the mountainous Meirin and smiled, both sad and sweet. “'Do not follow... Return home."

Shen turned back to Lyric. She nodded, then wordlessly she turned and bounded back toward the epicenter of the city. Shen wordlessly followed.

THICKER THAN WATER
While Peyton appreciated Julian's concern for his emotions was appreciated, to be honest, Peyton didn't take Raph's words negatively in the least. He had a feeling that Raph's hatred of him stemmed from Peyton leaving him high and dry when Raph needed his friendship. And when Raph snarled at him a hateful 'You!' Peyton simply beamed brighter, if that was even possible, and squeaked out a simple response, "Me!"

But in the next instance, Peyton's expression soured as he noticed the way that Raph's hand brushed over August's midriff and how concerned he was at Kisara. A feeling akin to discontentment shot Peyton through the heart. No, it wasn't discontentment. Jealousy. That was what he was feeling. He was jealous of the chemistry that Raph seemed to have with August. He was jealous of how good friends Raph was with Kisara. Perhaps he could... no, that was a dangerous thought. Piping in with Julian's comment, Peyton said half-heartedly, "Yeah, he might not show it, but I bet he's real happy to see us too."

At that moment, the sound of people walking down the hall resounded, a second group of Serpents joining the mix. Peyton recognized Kinsley and Damian by name, and he offered one of Damian's tentacles a friendly elbow bump in greeting and extended the same greeting to Kinsley, albeit to her elbows. It was good seeing that his friends were alive from their ordeal, although notably, it seemed that there were a few missing people.

"Is that the big guy's sword?" Peyton asked the cool-looking goth girl, "He isn't with us..."

It was a fleeting observation, one that Peyton quickly put into the back of his mind. If he had fallen on the battlefield, Peyton knew that a fellow Serpent would've taken his gun to fight on. Fittingly, of course, considering that the gun that Peyton wielded during his tenure of being a Dragon was of Serpent origin.

Instead, Peyton began to take the lead in the march out of the blacksite, his gun pointed out at anybody who dared to jump out or stand in their way. If Raphael and August were going to carry Kisara, then the very least Peyton could do was guard them. He felt it dimly, but on some subconscious level, he didn't want any of them dying here in the blacksite.

"Do you think you know the way out of this maze?" Peyton asked Julian. If the bug man could guide them out of the maze, then it would be as simple as retracing their steps... and hopefully one of the other Serpents remembered the way out, cause Peyton sure as hell didn't.

Taurus’s head spun, having been knocked so harshly against the wall. Upside down, gravity sunk him to the floor as he struggled to quickly regain his bearings.

Snort.

The door shook loudly now, having been loosened in its frame from the crash, now being rattled by the earthquake. If one listened carefully, they’d have heard the click of a lock being turned, and frantic voices within.

”Stay calm.”
”Keep your heads down”
”It’ll pass soon.”

The sounds of heels clacked onto the ground. Raquel’s frown was ever present as she strutted her way towards the door. It took her a lot of power to maintain her balance despite the earthquake happening. “I should just get this over with.” It seemed like things were not going to plan.

With one hand, she picked up one of Taurus’s legs. Then she spun, taking his body and swinging it at the door.

THUNK

Despite the bullman’s attempts to cut off the attack, Raquel had the momentum in the fight at the moment, and so his body went crashing not just into the door, but through it. Wood splintered in all directions, no match for his heavily muscled frame. Taurus went flying through before rolling on the fractured floor, knocking into some presentation equipment that had been in use before the earthquake occurred.

Snort.

ROOOAR.

As he rolled, he dug his hands and feet into the ground, clawing it to slow him. He leapt to his feet, and charged back to the broken doorway in a fury, head down with his horns ready to buck all in his path.

Irwin appeared just as Taurus began his charge. Unlike Raquel there was now loud clack to his steps, just a soft tap as he moved towards the Phoenix swiftly- even as he ran, the sound his feet made was quiet, hard to catch- not impossible to hear so when he ran towards her and went with a one handed shove at her back, just around the neck area to push her into the attack it might have been something of a surprise.

At the same time he was expecting the scenario she caught him before he could land the shove to her gorging.

“Oh?” Something had pushed her from behind, which caught the cannibal off guard. Her focus was purely on the objective on hand. Having another figure come from behind and push her made things difficult for her. With her stumbling towards Taurus, if she was careless it might end her getting skewered.

Thankfully, she was Raquel Filo. Using her strength, she caught herself with one hand and pushed herself off from the floor. Flipping over the charging bull, she sailed through the air. She tucked her knees in as she went over the charging bovine.

And landed right in front of the Ruby Room.

Irwin had already moved out of Taurus's path at this point and the second he saw her go over him, by the time she’d landed he was already launching himself off the ground towards her at a low running crawl.

Snort.

Taurus’s eyes widened as his target disappeared ahead of him, and another came to view. Thankfully he was out of their path, but even the once-familiar face in the staff team was blurring beyond recognition. There were no issues with the bull’s eyesight, far from it according to all tests he’d ever done, but the more he fought, the further he became riled up into a frenzy. Friend, foe, it mattered little when they were in his path.

As he passed both of them with incredible speed, he slowed, stumbling a bit from the shaking. His ears perked up, the faintest sounds of an explosion far below them reaching them. It was nothing he could take note of now, especially considering things weren’t quiet up here either, and so he ignored it. Taurus began another charge down the hallway, head down to buck as it was before.

Grabbing the handle of the door, she pulled on it. Her strength was high thanks to the consumption of two HPs along the way. Raquel pulled the door out of its hinges and threw it at Irwin.

Without a word she back stepped into the Ruby room. Holding out her whip, she swung it blindly across the room. If she was lucky, she’d at least slit one of the Tiger businessmen's throats with it.

His arm is where the whip stopped going taut with a yank so strong it certainly would have pulled anyone off their feet. Irwin’s arm was bound around the tipped whip tight and though where it cut stung the same wound healed rapidly. The scrawny, shaggy haired young man with eyes that seemed to glow stared at Raquel in neutral blankness as he tightened his fist hold on the whip and pulled- the aim to bring Raquel to him or at least within the range of Taurus rumbling attack.

Raquel stumbled but she held her ground. In response the heel blades stabbed down onto the floor and secured her firmly into the ground. Well, her whip was worthless to her now.

Letting go of the whip, the blades of her retracted, but didn’t care to confront Irwin and Taurus. Raquel spun around and sliced the nearest businessmen in one quick movement. Blood dropped to her mouth as she moved to fight the next one.

The businessman had gotten too close, too stunned to move out of the way even with the pre-warning from Taurus. His NP flesh was too soft, he never stood a chance. He was just a simple businessman after all, here to attend a simple meeting. Even in this relatively small pond, in comparison to the biggest players in the Tigers, he wasn’t much more of a bottom-feeder, but he had worked hard to get to this prestigious location.

His head toppled on the floor with a spurt of blood as the bladed heel clipped right through him.

Snort.

Taurus stomped the door to sawdust as it fell in the path of his rampaging feet. He let one bellow of warning out before he sprinted through the doorway to swing at whoever was in his path.

THE DRAGON AND THE PHOENIX
Standing atop the giant's shoulder, Isaiah listened as the Phoenix King yelled out her order. It was impossible to say whose consciousness was currently inhabiting Lyric's body, but her words carried the same weight regardless. She called for an end to the fighting, commanding her troops to fall back and seek safety. However, with Shen's sudden arrival, it remained unclear if the war was truly over.

Isaiah was relieved to see the Tempest return in one piece, but he remained cautious. With the world-shattering rumbles beneath everyone's feet, it was already impossible to relax, but now there was a new concern. How would Shen respond to his fellow King's retreat?

Shen's current behavior was far different now. This was the air of the man Isaiah had known for several years. Whatever happened from this point on, the Ace could believe it was truly Shen's desire. Isaiah already expressed his wish for a peaceful resolution and the future it could bring. He hoped Shen would agree with Lyric and urge everyone to seek refuge. However, if his King chose war of his own free will, he would support him. As a Dragon, that had always been his role.

For a time, his gaze remained fixated on Shen, but the incoming inferno snatched that attention away. As Meirin blocked Vulken's path, Isaiah tightened his grip on the titan's cloth. Even from his current perch, he could see how the intensifying flames slowly crawled up the redhead's body, and it forced him to recall the incident from last year. Refusing to allow a rematch, he kept his eyes peeled, waiting for even the slightest movement. These final, tense moments decided everything.

Meirin's voice boomed, and shortly after, Shen's followed. After what felt like ages, he spoke with his true voice, backing Lyric's orders. Then, as his expression morphed into something more somber, he requested that nobody follow as he and the Phoenix King retreated.

As always, Isaiah kept his composure. Part of his role was to always remain calm and collected, constantly thinking of what move to make next. That's why he had to force down the temptation to follow after Shen. He was aware that attempting to do so would be futile. The chaos was too great and his limitations were too numerous. Even so, the desire to support was there. But he had his orders, and his duty was to the King's words. He couldn't help his leader, but he could help his people.

Looking away from Shen's retreating form, Isaiah focused on the warzone below. Many people had already lost their lives. While regrettable, there was no time to mourn. He and the others had to focus on the living. Thankfully, he had a perfect view of everything at the moment.

Scanning the area, Isaiah conjured a great number of sights and sounds. With a loud, disembodied voice, he relayed the Kings' orders and gathered the attention of those who had yet to move. To help the people who struggled to find their way to safety, he created bright illusory paths that cut through the destruction. He highlighted the wounded with shining pillars of light, advising others to assist them if they were able.

As he created more illusions, Isaiah felt a dull pain in his head, but he kept a straight face. He was doing so much, but it still felt like it wasn't enough. He would have to rely on his peers to provide more support.

Turning his attention to Meirin, Isaiah called for the Sleeping Giant's assistance once again. "Try to help as many people as you can. If you need anything at all, just say the word." He was asking a lot of his friend, especially after everything she'd done on their way here, but her help was crucial in the effort to save lives.

Isaiah then looked at Kanna. It looked as if her leg was injured, but it was difficult to say for certain. She'd also been fighting this entire time, so it was also possible that the Jack was low on energy. "Can you still move on your own? Do you need help?" With ghost-like whispers, he used his Potential to speak directly into her ear. If she did need help, she was close enough for Meirin to grab her.

Finally, Isaiah focused on the pair of Phoenixes below. Once again, he used his Potential to make his words reach them. "Get out of here as quickly as you can. If you see anyone who needs help, we'll try our best to lend a hand."

This battle was over. Both sides received the same order. Fighting would be pointless and idiotic. The most important thing was saving as many people as possible.

Hmph. Hector watched as his blades sliced against the Tigers. It wasn’t a direct hit as he had hoped for, but aiming had become rather tricky, so he was satisfied with drawing blood from the green-skinned one, and watching as he fell into a roll. He had plenty more blades ready to throw, but as he threw his arm back for another rapid-fire attack, the ground shook with more ferocity than before, and all he could hear was the sound of explosions below, halting his progress.

Time’s running out.

He could feel a shifting in the floor beneath him, and for a moment was almost too worried to take another step. At the edge of his vision, he could see some of the heavier machines get swallowed into the floor below, accompanied by the screams of those falling with them. It was clear the floor wouldn’t tolerate much pressure now, creaking and cracking audibly.

It was as he prepared another assault against the pair that were exchanging bickering words he couldn’t hear, that the smaller one, the Princess of Wonderland, acted against his expectations. He got a full view of her as she turned back, and without any consideration, sprinted in her direction, firing another two blades to greet her before he’d get there.

The blades were shot out of the air by Dante’s projectiles, with a fist of energy the size of a car rushing towards Hector like a ball pitched, then curved mid air.

Alice shielded her face (and in turn her gaze) from Hector’s attack. She heard Dante intercept as a shockwave billowed her hair. With her only real defense taking on the pursuer, she scurried after Charlie…

As Alice ran, Hector found himself once more picking himself off the floor, after jumping out of the way from the wave of energy, behind an overturned table. All you’d see from the other side is a skewer impaling the top, as it rose with Hector. In an instant, he chucked the table, detaching his blade to let it fly at high speed in Alice’s direction. At the same time, he regrew his metal and charged Dante with sword and shield raised.

Nico was good at reading people. He took pride in it. The skill let him climb up once, and it was going to help again. But for now, to pick off the runt of the litter—the pathetic whelps sticking with bigger fish to make themselves feel better—was his goal. The runt in question was the blue-haired gal.

He continued to dance and watch the Phoenix struggle against his undead. From Antares whose anxiety-ridden mind made Nico cheat, to Casey who couldn't land serious throw even if her life literally depended on it, it was gratifying to give these people a dose of reality.

So. Gratifying.

It wasn't like the world needed another growing Nico...

Nico turned head at the sound... and froze. In the time he lost himself, the odd Casey had... Well, Nico didn't see him anymore. The weak link of the attackers now dismantled his zombies in ruthless ease. One, then two, then... all of them.

Nico cut the music short as soon as the bloodied Phoenix set his focus on the dancer. Forcing a sheepish smile, he backed steadily away. "H-Hey, cutie, listen, I have no part in this! I'm just doing my job! I'm real famous! As famous as Passeri Park, you know? I never wanted to be here to begin with! I was only doing my job so I could get back onstage!"

The door swung open. Was the drone here? No. A very, very angry maid. Corvo let the knife glimmer against Jesper's neck. That should've warded her off. Should have.

She barely had time to react, only using it to flip the blade so the dull end was the one against him. Her hostage slipped out of her grasp. The air flew out of her lungs. Corvo rattled against the floor as they landed—hardly a cushion.

She felt Amari's hand grip her throat, and when her sight settled, only the maid's pupils filled it. Did she see through the bluff, or did her fists make up her brains?

The wolf's claws pressed into her neck—poetic, one might say. There was no time to think; she looked more than ready to spill blood. Could she make it out if she "died" here? Maybe... she was going about this the wrong way.

"Wait..." she said through a choking breath. Corvo pressed a small, disc-shaped object softly on Amari's chest. It stuck on her shirt and made a singular beep. "Bomb." She brought a hand to her side: the detonator. "I have... a new offer..."

She wanted someone to pay, and now she was finally able to have a target to release her frustrations on, Noa looked at the group with rage in her eyes as she spoke "You Basterds made me go through a dam sewar just to find you guys, and your little spy ruined my dress... I'll kill you for that." Without much more prompting Noas Tattoo of Power and Aggression activated, the sudden rush of power and rage filled her, as she looked towards the group with fury in her eyes. Noa let out a angry growl before pouncing forward with enough power to leave a small crater in the ground as she launched forward intending to grab whoever by the neck so that she could force them to the ground and pound on their face until their skull would turn into nothing but a unrecognizable puddle of blood.

Tyr meanwhile patted Ryoma on the shoulder pointing towards Noa before shaking his head, a signal telling him to not get in her way while she was like that, knowing that she was way stronger with that tattoo but way more aggressive as well , making her unable to properly distinguish friend from foe, or just not care. Either way he knew better than to interrupt her, and if the enemy was smart they would not try to get her attention either. Tyr simply pulled out his sword, and motioned for Ryoma to lead the way forward and choose a target to attack, so that he could follow up their attack with a attack of their own. They wanted to take out as many enemies as possible pretty quickly though he was still bit concerned with the man who made those portals from last time, so he opted to start his attack using the hilt of their sword and if it hits a enemy he would then follow it up with a slice. His danger sense was on full alert, now and he was taking into account for anything that could happen using their knowledge from their previous fight.

TACTICAL MAYHEM
Boltius made the call and the nearest of Phoenixes flocked toward him, finding safety in compactness.

“We’re gonna fall back tog-” Provoked by the Masks, some of them abruptly split from the pack.

That’s right… not every Phoenix knew what this army was capable of.

Emphatically swatting the air with his arm, “NO! I SAID FALL BA-” Bolt’s voice hitched in his throat as the slaughter commenced. A Phoenix or two nearby him fled, retreating back to the CDPD HQ, no destination in mind but propelled solely by an instinct for survival.

He wanted to rush in… to spring to their aid, but he knew better. What good would it do to get himself killed, as well?

Just then, “Ay, what’s the deals?” A familiar voice.

Boltius looked to Bandy, meeting eyes with those who accompanied him, then gritted his teeth as more questions and quips were unleashed by all Phoenixes proximal. What’s the plan?Shit, someone stop those Rookies! This is a fuckin’ massacre.Your lead, Ace!Do we fight!?

“We leave. Now. We're not built to beat these people.” The answer came from Gideon. And while Boltius hated to hear it like that, it wasn’t wrong. This wasn’t the fight they prepared for.

And who the fuck are you to say?!We’re running?Stay close, though, right?Fuck you mean, not built?

Boltius whirled around, “He’s not fuckin’ wrong! I know you don’t wanna hear it, but these motherfuckers are high-tier! So everybody shut the fuck up and run for your goddamn lives!” Chest rising and falling on deep breaths, he looked between them. In a lower voice this time, as the air around him became dry and hot, he added, “So we can come back to fight another day. Next time, knowing what we’re up against.”

In that moment, a single Mask broke through the crowd of Phoenixes, taking a life as if it were the hand of death, itself, plucking a shiny bauble from clear waters. But those waters were piranha infested, and the Phoenixes swiftly quashed the arrogant threat with a wave of unique potentials sent forth. Karmic reprisal, one might say, but which came first? The chicken or the egg?

At the same time, the screeching of tires on pavement howled over the surrounding clamor of conflict, and the familiar back-end of Boltius’ Denali slid into view, obscuring direct sight of the scarred-face woman and her two unmasked associates.

“Everyone get the fuck in!” It was Ashley.

Seeing those red-on-black streaks poking out through the driver’s window, Boltius couldn’t help but sigh a shaky breath of relief before he was urgently ushering others into the SUV. But that solace was the briefest of pleasures, as a few Masks descended upon them to halt their getaway.

Boltius and others held them off. Distracted by that, he was ignorant to the white Hummer racing onto the scene.

Everything was a blur after that. The next thing he knew, he was picking himself up off the ground to the sound of a high-pitched ring, staggering for balance as he fought against a stiffness in his legs from the unexpected shockwave of raw power.

Glass and metal crunched underfoot.

Orange hues flitted to where the Denali had been, but found it a few yards displaced. The front end was completely caved in, crushed beneath the now-upside down Hummer, from which three bodies flopped out. One was Barbados Haygar, whom Boltius recognized. In his arms, someone else, but Boltius couldn’t make out who as he stumbled for balance and spotted, also, a young boy in a frog onesie spilling onto the pavement in an exhausted heap. A large gash on the boy’s forehead dripped with a slow trickle of blood that drained into his right eye.

Still, Boltius seemed side-tracked. He didn’t process the headless corpse of Boo in Barbados’ arms, nor did he pay any further attention to the Masks crowding around like vultures waiting for the prey to cease movement before the pecking.

“Ash…?” Boltius was disoriented. Shaking his head, he trudged toward the battered vehicles. “Ash...” He couldn’t remember if Ashley had exited the Denali or not.

The scarred-face woman was approaching.

Seeing her, Boltius stopped in place, turned toward her, and seized control of his potential, condensing the heat so that it wouldn’t affect his allies, but he was still dazed.

The scarred-face woman’s attention became diverted. Following her gaze led him to a familiar horned-officer who had, earlier, been Ashley’s opponent. “Let them leave, and keep your lives. Resist, and die,” said the officer to the scarred-face woman.

Huh? Was the woman not a cop?... Was she not partnered with the CDPD?

Raising his hands, Boltius slapped himself on both sides of the face. Two good times. SLAP! SLAP! Then he roared—he was pissed off.

“JUST FUCKIN’ RUN ALREADY!” Saying this, he charged in… but he didn’t expect to win. Just to stall. That was all he needed to do. That way, the rest could escape. Boltius knew he wouldn’t win this fight…

As he got close to the scarred-face woman, all of the heat that had been condensed was let loose in a powerful burst of sweltering, emanating waves, and Boltius’ body became engulfed in flame as he reared back for a punch- but feinted. Instead of swinging at the woman, Boltius utilized his momentum to execute a rapid, brutal capoeira kick, hoping to swipe the woman across the jaw. He missed- or, rather, she evaded him, and not a single hair on her head misplaced in doing so.

Boltius immediately followed up with an attempt to tackle.

However, all of the power he focused into his legs in preparation for the lunge seemed to, quite literally, push the earth out from under him. And, with it, Boltius sank.

Dragons and Phoenixes and Hunks, Oh My!
Chikage's car rumbled down the trembling road, and Sebastian gripped the wheels tightly as he blazed straight at Markus, who was trapped with a wall behind him. His heart pumped and pounded as hard as it did when he hit those four gangsters earlier that day. But this time, it felt more thrilling. Maybe it was because he was about to ram the King of the Tigers?

Sebastian's mind raced for a war cry as the seconds ticked down. With very little time, Sebastian rolled down the window, the wind rushing past him as he shouted with exhilaration, "Das Autos!"

How ironic, considering he was driving a jeep, not a Volkswagen.

But then at that very moment, Chikage dive-bombed to intercept Markus!

"Mr. Nakazajo, get down!" Sebastian shouted in horror (and regressed into using internet lingo) as he slammed on the brakes. But it was far too late. He was going to end up hitting both his boss and the Tiger King. Sebastian braced for impact, the Eurobeat from the car blaring 'life is old there, older than the trees...' Then, out of nowhere, a sudden impact blasted Sebastian and the jeep into the air.

For a moment, Sebastian felt weightlessness, then the crash's impact hit him with full force. He was jerked forward, the airbags being the only thing keeping him from slamming face-first into the steering wheel. He was jerked back and forth several times as the car tumbled down the street, bouncing slightly with every tremor of the earthquake before finally going still.

When Sebastian opened his eyes, he felt the blood rush to his head and the seatbelt strain to keep him in place. Chikage's Jeep had flipped over, leaving Sebastian upside down. At the very least, Sebastian hadn't flattened Chikage into a pancake. Sebastian reached down and unlatched his seatbelt, grunting as he fell against the roof of the Jeep. Miraculously, the music hadn't stopped when the Jeep flipped, so as Sebastian kicked the door open and stepped out, Country Roads continued to blare.

"Oh, you're here too," Sebastian said in surprise when he looked at his surroundings. In front of him were a white-haired, posh-looking gentleman and a scruffier man with a gun-like weapon next to him. Racking his memory of the criminal files he had read, Sebastian identified the two as Nikolai and Tri, respectively. Sebastian ruffled his own hair to get the messy look back in before he stood up proud and tall to face the King and Jack. His words were as casual as a Saturday afternoon, but Sebastian's stance clearly stood in opposition to the two of them, "Here to cause trouble like our other friends here?"

It was a shame that Markus slipped right out of their grasp, but Sebastian knew he could settle for sparring with the two Serpents if they were up to trouble. There was no chance that he would win against two members of Serpent leadership, but if he could buy the Dragons that assisted the evacuation of people a little time... well, that might be worth it. And if they weren't there to cause trouble, well... Sebastian would cross that bridge when it came to that.

The floor trembled and the structure of the building weakened, but nevertheless the rookie ignored it all, focusing entirely on the target within his sights, each step forward covering more ground that each step back from Nico, soon closing the gap between them.

"L-Look, money, right? T-That's what you want, right? I know even phoenixes have a pri-"

Nico squealed as the rookie's hand reached for his shirt's collar, gripping it tightly and pulling him up until they met at eye-level. Charlie's eyes showed no emotion, or perhaps they were overflowing with emotion, cancelling each other out into a messy, saturated frenzy.

"ANYTHING YOU WANT! SAY THE WORD AND I'LL GIVE IT T-"

The tiger was silenced by a jab to the face, a nasty cracking sound caused by the impact between knuckle and tender flesh; his head was thrown back, bruised nose now pouring blood, and a single tooth flying away from his mouth. The pink-haired boy nearly broke into tears as he groaned by the pain, his life of luxury and uninvolved powers shielding him from true physical agony up to this point. Charlie stared at Nico's pained expression as more words from his mentor came rushing through his mind.

Phoenixes are willing to do whatever it takes to protect one another.

The people that we are fighting are doing what they can to kill them.

*CRACK*
Another strike that interrupted the tiger's attempt at begging for mercy once again, a brutal blow that sank itself into the helpless tiger's face, tearing at the skin as it painted the attacker's fist with a fresh coat of warm red.

You can either do nothing and watch as the people that are fighting with you die.

or you can fight to protect them... or avenge them.

*CRUNCH*

A merciless onslaught ensued, multiple blows hitting ceaslessly, one after the other, and each time the Phoenix's hithholding of his blows lessened. With blood splashing and bone cracking in equal measure, Nico's facial features had become borderline unrecognizeable.

Make sure our enemies think twice before choosing to harm the family.

The tiger was slammed down against the floor, a kneeled Charlie on top of him resumed with the savage beatdown once again. Adrenaline, anger, frustration, excitement, resentment, the Phoenix by now had left all rationality on the doorstep. His assault stopped, his raised closed hand dripped with blood and torn skin. He stared down at the bloody pulp that used to be a face at some point, the boy that owned it having lost consciousness a while ago. With heavy breathing and sweat dripping down his nose, he wrapped his hands around Nico's neck.

Would Charlie spare his life now, not only would he have wasted his time, but also risked the chance of birthing a dangerous drive for revenge, his family potentially suffering the consequences of his unwillingness. Furthermore, if he were to end it here and now, his chances of catching up with the others and helping them out would increase. He could save more people.

And thus, with this utterly alien reasoning, he shouted, letting out a cry that tempered his murderous resolve. He pressed, immense force applied from palm to fingertips on the vulnerable spot, crushing bone and flesh alike, producing a visceral sound more familiar to a butcher's ears than a fighter's. He continued to press, not letting go in the slightest for what felt like an eternity as his heart beat faster than it had ever done previously. Eventually, his grip loosened, finally letting go of the tiger altogether. He stood up, gazing down on the body...on the corpse. His eyes studied the fruits of his labor, and strong emotions surged from within; Was it shock? Pride? Sadness, perhaps? Once again, he was at a loss.

However, such things mattered little now. His Queen needed him, and this loyal soldier would march on.

WHOLE WORLD BLIND

Raquel’s hair whipped around to see Taurus swinging straight at her. She didn’t have enough time to move, so the only thing she could do was raise her arms up and take the hit. In the next instant she found herself crashing into a wall. The backside of her clothes torn and splinters bared into her back.

Though that didn’t last long as an object flew out of the opening from the Raquel shaped hole from the wall. An object that was thrown with great strength became a blur as it pierced a businessman from the other side of the room. Raquel crawled out and glared at the Tigers. It was time to take one of the annoyances out.

Her whip came streaking into view towards her that very instant. Using it now against her, the digs in his arms, healing rapidly as he wiped stained side of his mouth off from where blood could clearly be seen dried against his pale skin.

Every muscle in his body burned for a brief moment, there was a heat in his system as his body absorbed the blood greedily and found fuel from it. This needed to be wrapped up quickly, all this blood was starting to give him cravings.

Seven, down to six, down to five. Five businessmen once conducting their affairs in the prestigious Ruby Room, now watching the head of their colleague roll to a stop, and the blood gushing from another, unconscious from Raquel’s attack. Three remained huddled in the corner, one of those three attending to their fallen friend. Like deer in headlights, they couldn’t help but become stunned by the fighting in front of them, ignoring common sense. Two had begun to crawl towards the doorframe, hoping for an escape.

Snort.

Taurus skidded to a stop once more, glaring down at the cannibal. Oddly enough, he didn’t charge at Raquel while she was down, instead, he just kept staring. He looked ready to attack though, his expressive still that of a frenzied bull.

Ducking between the swings of her own whip, Raquel narrowed her eyes. This was going to be troublesome. Her eyes shifted from Irwin, Taurus, and then at the businessmen.

Then she made her choice.

Grabbing the corpse of the recently deceased businessmen, she took a bite out of it before throwing the corpse at Taurus.

And then she doubled in. Sprinting at the bovine, she made sure to angle herself that it would make it inconvenient for Irwin to attack her with the whip without hitting Taurus.

She thrusted her hands at Taurus to grab him.

And Irwin moved in instead, chucking the whip aside in the process.

Snort.

On instinct, Taurus grabbed the beheaded body as it flew his way, staring down at the gaping neck and bitemarks as their blood splattered his torso. A growl could be heard emerging from deep within the beast’s throat. He could see Raquel approach, and so he flung the corpse over his shoulder so that his hands were free to grab the cannibal in return, hoping to overpower her.

Wrong move. Raquel had an idea on what to do next, but she scrapped it for something else entirely. Locking her hands with Taurus, they were at a stalemate. That was until Raquel bit off her tongue. Blood seeped into her stomach and stomach burned with a nostalgic feeling. For the first time, her head felt clear, the hunger the drove her into insanity faded away. Her blood tasted bland.

It tasted like normalcy. A life where she remained ignorant and continued on her life as *******. A life where she had *******.

The hunger came back and so did the craze.

“GYAHAHAHAHAHAHA.” Suddenly with incredibly renewed strength, she went off to try and lift Taurus off his feet with her newly acquired power. In an effort to knock away Irwin and kill the businessmen that were trying to retreat, Raquel tried to use Taurus as a mace to clobber Irwin away and bludgeon the businessmen.

SLAM.

Pink-brown splinters flew across the room as the bull-man collided with the pink ivory table, the centrepiece of the room shattering with ease as his own weight was used against him. In the struggle, chairs and wood continued to scatter as Taurus struggled to regain control against her. It wasn’t long before he broke free, swinging his sharp horns at Raquel’s arms.

"STOP THIS!"

Whether he was making the demand to Raquel or Irwin remained to be seen.

By some miracle, one of the businessmen managed to duck and scramble out of the already broken door, stubby legs stumbly as he ran despite all the shaking; Even an earthquake was less scary than the man-eating madwoman with a strength to match–or perhaps even overpower–a bull. He didn’t look behind him. He simply ran for his life down the halls of the 9th floor, beady eyes searching for someone, anyone, to get him out of this mess…when he happened upon a certain pair headed his way.

Mayhaps he only saw the uniform because his eyes brightened and he rushed over to the pink-haired casino employee, heedless of their scarred companion.

He clutched Doug’s vest. “Help! Get help immediately! There’s–”

The words caught in the businessman’s throat when he felt cool metal pressed against his temple.

Zach, otherwise known as ‘Doug’, otherwise known as Hawk of the Scarlet Phoenxies, smirked as he glanced at Hide while still holding the handgun to the VIP’s head. “What did I tell ya? Disguises always net the big fish!”

Hide could only respond with a scoff and a roll of his mismatched eyes.

Bullets might not hurt an HP too much, but NPs were a different story. Free hand gripping the businessman’s shoulder, Zach turned the wealthy man around easily enough, all the while said man blubbered, offering outrageous amounts of money in return for his life. Zach had a healthy love for money–probably more than most Phoenixes. If he were a Tiger, he would’ve immediately accepted. Heck, if the situation were any different, he still might’ve accepted.

However, as he watched the ongoing fight in the Ruby Room through shimmering, kaleidoscopic eyes hidden behind a pair of shades, Zach thought there were better uses for a hostage. Chances were good that it wouldn’t work, especially since those in the Albino Tiger gang tend to care about the money certain NPs could produce more than said NP lives, but that was what made gambling fun. Zach addressed the businessman. “What’s your name?”

“R-Rufus M-M-M-McMillian,”

“You’ll help us out, won’t you Rufus~?”

The gun’s barrel moved from the NP’s temple to the small of his back, to where it was less visible, as Zach nudged the VIP back towards the direction of the Ruby Room. He pressed a hand to his earpiece. “Gourmet Honey~ Time is running out. Spellbinder and I are on our way to pick you up…and Spellbinder doesn’t seem very happy with you~”

If Raquel could respond she would but she couldn’t. Possibly because her lack of apparent tongue disabled her ability to speak.

Zach didn’t seem to mind the silence at the other end of the earpiece and simply proceeded the rest of the way to the Ruby Room with Hide and Rufus. It didn’t take them long to arrive at the room with the broken door.

The white and black haired man fiddled restlessly with the bloody crowbar in his hand. He scowled, eyes finally catching sight of the crazed cannibal. Hide smirked, confused but smug at her inability to speak, and satisfied at seeing her an already bloody mess. “Hah, finally quiet huh? What- cat got your tongue? Nothin to say Darling?” He murmured quieter, more so to himself as his eyes narrowed. “Should’a been like this the first time we met…” he fiddled with his crowbar once more, his grip a constant anxious adjustment. Sucks he couldnt kill a fellow Phoenix.

TACTICAL MAYHEM
Bandy looked between the gathered Phoenixes as they piled their questions onto the Ace, feeling Jericho close behind him, towering over him.

Purple eyes met Callista’s, but he said nothing and waited patiently for an answer from Bolt.

However, it came, instead, from the one he didn’t recognize, “We leave. Now. We're not built to beat these people.” And those words got a good rise out of the more pride-guilty characters standing round. But not Bandy.

Bandy understood the need for retreat… Doesn’t mean he liked it.

The Ace whirled around then and said his piece before one of the enemy broke through their huddle, taking a Phoenix down in the process.

All Bandy could do as several surrounding Phoenixes cast their vengeance down upon the single Mask was step back, giving more room for the execution to be fulfilled. Afterwards, he spat on the body and gave it a good-measured poke with his bo staff, parting his lips to speak when- SCREECH!

Tires across pavement reached his ears.

Tearing his eyes away from the battered Mask at his feet, he spotted Riot hanging out of the smashed, driver’s window of a maroon-colored SUV.

When beckoned and ushered, Bandy rolled his shoulder and said, despite the ongoing decimation: “I ain’t sittin’ in back, so dibs on shotguns. I’ll jus’ takes it from whoever thinks ‘ey can pull a fast one, so don’t try wastin’ yer ti-”

Just then, he took a stake through the gut.

It came from behind.

Bandy’s eyes went wide, then they trailed down to see a shiny, metal spike coated red jutting from his abdomen. An abrupt, pained exclamation shook through gritted teeth, and his staff clattered to the ground as he let his hands cup the new wound, dropping to his knees when the spike was jerked free from his body’s wet grip.

A handful of Masks had closed in to oppose the Phoenixes’ retreat, and Bandy’s back had been turned.

Becoming transfixed on his injury, forgetting everything else around him, he offered himself some mumbled words of consolation through grunts and sharp chokes, “Mmmmgh- Fuck… Nah- It’s cool, it’s cool… Mgh- You’re okay, you’re okay-”

Bandy shook his head, down on all fours now.

“Aww- fuck, that ain’t feel good- mmgh.” He swallowed hard, sucking deep breaths—in through the nose, out through the mouth—to keep composure.

Don’t panics, Tatie… It ain’t that bad…

Bandy got to a kneel, feeling the spot where he’d been impaled again to gauge the severity. Only, he wasn’t a doctor, so he couldn’t tell…

If I don’t knows I’m dyin’, then I ain’t dyin’.

With that, Bandy was up again, just in time for the shockwave of power from the scarred-face woman to knock him back down as a white Hummer was sent flipping through the air. Hitting the ground, he ragdolled and rolled several feet, leaving a trail of blood in his wake.

The thrum of what reminded Bandy of whirring helicopter propellers hummed in his ears, and a sharp ringing grew from there, becoming louder and more high-pitched as he agonized and rolled about, contending with the punishments cast upon his body.

This is gettin’ old…

Abruptly, the ringing ceased.

He heard the Ace’s voice. “JUST FUCKIN’ RUN ALREADY!”

Then with the sound of rolling thunder, everything became lighter…

Together, with the rest, Bandy fell through the collapsing earth.

THICKER THAN WATER
August stiffened up at the brush of contact against his side, throwing an oblique, fleeting glance at Raph over Kisara’s limp-hanging head as his mind tried to make something out of nothing.

For a moment, a memory overtook the present, and he saw the black-haired succubus leaning over the center console of his mustang with a seductive grin. The scent of alcohol and smoke reached him with a dizzying hand—he leaned back, caught himself, and shook the memory away, letting his own hand find Kisara’s waist opposite Raph's.

Now wasn’t the time to start battling pent-up sexual tensions.

“I’m down for leaving assuming you’re fine with leaving the Queen behind.” The black-haired woman had a point. Casting a sweep of the eyes over the surrounding faces, August finally realized that Caio, the Serpents’ Queen, wasn’t with them.

The swordsman, too.

Oh and-... August grimaced at the thought of the slithering, serpentine, eldritch horror that was one of the accompanying Serpents on this rescue mission. Whatever it was called, it wasn’t there either... Except it was.

“Perhaps they’re togetha, yeh? Queen, Swordsy, an’ tha… tha- the othah one.” He didn’t know what to call it. “Y’know, tha one… Tha pure embodiment of captivation an’ lovin’koindness.” The tone of his voice said something different.

From somewhere beyond the dark veil of the dank, cavernous hallway, a distant commotion echoed forth.

Not hearing it, August shrugged and carried on with his smart remarks, “Tha one that calls tuh moind warm cookies ‘n’ milk on a cold d-”

The commotion grew louder, and August’s eyebrows pinched tight. The heavy trampling of multiple footsteps, like rhinos clambering through, around, and overtop of each other rumbled forth, shaking the dim overhang lights and throwing the Serpents’ shadows this way and that. Guttural snarls, howls, and caterwauls sprang from the darkness, sources unseen, in an unrelenting offense on the ears.

Eyebrows arching high above tired teals, August looked in the direction of their only escape. “...Mmmmh…” A thoughtful hum as he met eyes with a few of the others. Then, he clicked his tongue on the tilt of his head, flinching briefly when he finally spotted the Takaonna, and told them, “...Dunno ‘bout you mates, but ah’m not really in tha mood fuh company.”

On that note, allowing a sliver of panic to slip into his expression, he bared his bottom teeth in a comical display and started forward, hoping Raph intended to match his strides.

All they had to do was get in the car and go; but of course, it was never going to be that easy.

Jericho's eyes widened when Bandy fell to the ground, bleeding from a wound in his stomach. Immediately all of his attention was on his friend, becoming increasingly panicked with each passing second, desperately wanting to help but unable to do anything except stay by his side and try to prevent further injury.

As Bandy started to get up again, Rico held onto one of his arms and helped him to his feet. That meant nothing, though, because as soon as he got up they were both knocked back by a powerful shockwave. Jericho, startled, flew back but managed to catch himself before he skidded too far. Bandy hadn't been so lucky.

“Fuck, fuck fuck," He growled through clenched teeth, scanning the area as quickly as he could and spotting the other man several feet away, “I can't lose you, too."

Without hesitation, Jericho sprinted over and dropped to the ground beside Bandy, “C'mon man..." He couldn't stop his hands from shaking as he reached for his friend, his fingertips barely grazing his arm; that was when everything shifted, the ground beneath them suddenly gone.

Cursing loudly Rico instinctively grabbed for the other man and barely managed to catch his arm, holding tight. He pulled Bandy close to his chest and wrapped both arms around him, curling his tail around his torso.

At least Jericho would be able to protect him from the fall.

Just a little further. Just a few strides more, and she'd make it to him. Into his arms, where, just like before, he became her salvation.

But a loud kick drew her eye; Hector had not let up. He sent a table hurdling in her direction. Her body moved to duck and shield herself—her mind recalled part of Dante's training. Alice enacted the latter. Though shutting her eyes, she thrust her hand out in a chopping motion, her stomach so tense from expecting impact that it hurt... but the strike never came. When she opened her eyes, the table was split in two, her hand bruised and shaking—but she was okay.

A light smile curled up. Now, Charlie was—

*CRUNCH*

The first thing Alice saw was the blood. The blood splattering into the air, the stains on the attacker's arms, the source of it all being a face... or rather, what was left of one. She wouldn't have known the corpse was Nico if it weren't for the clothing. But it wasn't the poor remains of the boy that Alice focused on. The attacker let out a roar so ferocious she almost shrunk into a helpless curl. The way he pulverized his victim was beyond anything she could have imagined.

She never thought a human being could do something like that to another.

What bothered her the most was... this was where she saw Charlie earlier, was it not? Charlie must have ran somewhere else, she told herself. He must be fighting one of the enemies!

But in the one-sided slaughter, his blue hair shone true.

Just like Sisyphus, her hope vanished yet again.

Helva listened as Spirit gave her a run on all the events happening, and the strange events that went on over there, to say she was pissed would be a understatement she gave a dark mental reply to Libla as she said Bring Kaeda to me. Helva knew it wouldn't be long before Libla made it back to them, with the orb of darkness in Liblas hand she would be stupidly fast, Lyrics new orders left a sour note in Helva, but she understood a bit, still she refused to retreat as of now. Turning towards Skadi she told her, "Go back down South, leave a orb with me and spirit." "Right, just don't die on me." "I've been through worse." Before Skadi could turn, the Darkness had returned to their area, with Libla being the one brining it to them, Skadi wasn't surprised in the least, as she was able to sense the ridiculous speed Libla was able to go with the orbs. What Skadi was surprised to see was the knocked out body of Kaeda, and Libla letting the woman roughly fall to the ground in front of them. Helva was already briefed on what had happened, and Helva looked up to where the giant dragon woman was, who was giving her the middle finger which Helva didn't care for in the least, she was more concerned with the Phoenixs she was pocketing, it left a sour taste in her mouth thinking of allowing the Dragon Basterds to kidnap Phoenixs and take them back to the East. Helva then looked towards told Libla "Go help any Phoenix who needs it bandage them up and help them get back to our turf, and if you see any living Dragons, be sure to bring them back somewhere safe in the south as well, but do not bandage them unless it's life threatening." Libla gave a nervous look towards Helva as they said, "I'll try, most of the Dragons I've seen didn't seem to be in the best condition besides few of them, but I'll try."

With that noted, down Libla left to execute Helvas order quickly in order to save as many lives as possible, to Helva it was more so a matter insurance, to make sure that they were going to get Phoenixs the Dragons were kidnapping. She didn't trust a single lizard, but she did think they atleast somewhat cared for the Dragons under them, they weren't snakes after all, so they might care for the Dragons that are useful to them. But even if they refused to give back the Phoenixs they captured, they would have captured Dragons of their own captured and would be able to exact revenge if they did anything to their comrades. Though with Libla gone, Skadi returned two of the orbs to herself making them disappear from sight, allow the third orb to hover over Helva, but she didn't activate it yet. Instead Skadi watched Helva calmly make her way to Kaedas body, and Helva went on to kick her, hard in the ribs, forcing to get herself up. "WAKE UP YOU DAM BASTERED! It was pretty clear to me that you messed with Lyric mentally, and if i had half the mind right now, i'd tear you apart and throw the pieces of you to Lyrics lions. But I will promise you this, I can't wait for our next little family reunion, and i can guarantee you, that you will not like it at all." there was a lot of rage in Helvas eyes as she looked at their technical senior. Typically Helva respected her senior members, but in this case, she was so infuriated that she didn't care how many years Kaeda has been, after all she just came back into the picture anyways, and with how long she has been gone, she probably had plenty of time to reconsider her standings or even join another gang, and come back to the Phoenixs as spy meant to further whatever agenda their new gang has for her. In short, she didn't trust Kaeda at all as of now, regardless of their history with one another. Helva then turned to Skadi and her eyes softened as she went to give her sponseree a hug, that she reluctantly accepted, but didn't return. "I'll be back South, I got to make sure I beat the living hell out of Interloper, so i'll see you there, and make sure that woman gets back to the South Night Witch, and not hide down there in the East, if she does, call me, and I'll make sure to make her wish that i killed her later." With those words said to Skadi, Helva planted a his on their forehead before looking towards Kaeda "If you so much as lay a hand on Night Witch, i'll remove both of your hands and i'll make sure their served to The Gourmet for dinner." Her eyes showed expressed hatred as she looked towards Kaeda, before letting out a sigh as she turned back towards Skadi "I'll see you soon, I made a promise to Hawk to take care of Skullgirl, well not really a promise, but it was a request of his, i'm gonna go find her, and bring her back." with that said, Helva grabbed the orb Skadi left for her, and moved in towards the chaos in order to find Skullgirl, though despite her goal to find skullgirl, she was really worried for Lyric. The thought of them going somewhere alone again with the Dragon King made her sick to her stomach, but she was unable to do anything about it at the moment and could only hope that she would be all right. She was worried that this could of been part of Kaedas plan, and it made her queasy just thinking about it, but she had to remain focused on the things that were in her power, and what she could do, and chasing after Lyric seemed a bit futile at the moment. But what she could do was make sure all of her fellow Phoenixs made it back, especially Maho.

Meanwhile as Helva made a run towards the chaos Skadi activated the orb in Helvas hand, coating the area she was in in darkness before she looked towards Kaeda, still holding their spear, and the stake which was coated in the Dragons Jacks dried blood. "I would suggest getting a move on, you will not be carried back, and assistance to you is not longer a priority." with those words said, Skadi moved towards the direction of the south, being sure to keep her eyes and ears peeled in case Kaeda tried to break towards them or touch them, more than willing to add more blood to their stake or spear if need be. She wasn't sure what made Helva angry with her, but she knew it must of been really bad if she was willing to treat her like that in the middle of all this chaos, it had to have been a really serious matter, and she was put on edge cause of it.
