RAPHAEL SHAW
SCENE:
Phoenixes Arc 2: Scene 2 [The Bounty]
LOCATION:
Dilapidated Slums, North District
PARTICIPANTS:
Hide, Kyoden, Raphael, Sang-Cheol
THE BOUNTY
Raph's smirk widened as the arch of his brow deepened, sparing only a passing glance over this shoulder as the sound of Kyo's chuckle reached his ear. He wondered, for but a moment, what his senior was laughing at... Though, knowing Kyo, he'd probably just remembered a joke he heard years ago, or had just understood the punch-line. The thought softened the lines on Raph's face momentarily.

Friend might be an overstatement.” Raph added as Kyo suggested that Hide and Raph's relationship was more than a case of wrong place, wrong time. And, now again, here they both were. Déjà vu all over again. His musings on the probability of Hide and himself running into each other in yet another unlikely place, under equally unlikely circumstances, were interrupted when Sang-Cheol piped up. Raph smiled wickedly as he lolled his head to one side to leer, smirking, at the black-haired Sang as he played the role of the reasonable one. How quaint, Raph thought as he listened to Sang-Cheol's wise words.

When he'd finished, Raph gave Sang-Cheol a cheeky little mock-round of applause. “Well said, darling,” Raph cooed with faux-approval, despite how correct his associate actually was. They had not come here to pick apart a poor, solitary Phoenix. Raph's gaze found Hide again. They'd all said their piece. Now it was up to him to decide if he really wanted this fight, or not. As the trio of Serpents watched Hide relax, dropping his hand from behind his back, Raph nodded with undeserved self-satisfaction. Smart boy. Good choice.

Ignoring Hide's outburst at Kyo's cornered dog comment—which Raph wholeheartedly agreed with—and his denial of their friendship—you should be so lucky—Raph was prepared to ignore him in his entirety—after all, Sang-Cheol was right; they were here to do a job, not chit-chat with the non-local idiot—when he started to say something interesting. Kidnapped?

Raph spared a glance at his fellow Serpents, wondering if they thought what he was thinking, as Hide explained that he was looking for someone... Someone who, Raph surmised, was very likely being held against his will in the building across the street. Déjà vu, indeed. When Hide finished, Raph clapped his hands together and laughed once, mirthlessly.

“How fortuitous. It seems to me that the men we're here to kill are the ones who snatched up your mark. ”

Raph splayed his fingers, palms open, and decided to make Hide a rather generous offer, if he said so himself.

“How about it, darling? Do you want to come with us into that house over there and raise a little hell? ~" Raph nodded with his chin toward the ramshackle tenement building across the way. "There's a chance you'll find your man in there. ” As he awaited Hide's decision, Raph fished his phone out of his pocket, swiping up the lock screen and glancing briefly at his phone wallpaper (depicting two dark-haired men posing for a selfie together) before he popped open his messenger app. Raph shot a quick text—quick, but still threatening—to the last member of their quarter—quintet? Were they a quintet, now? Maybe.

Hostile Agenda

From the corner of her eye, the girl with the tail was able to spy on the hideous little act going on to the side. First Auggie approached Mothman, which probably wasn't a big deal as she would never get anything out of him, but THEN she had the gall to try and flirt with Smog, even managing to have him flirt back? To think I had a decent first impression of that little bitch, now look at her trying to hook up with guys while in the job Thought Camila to herself while staring with a not-so-subtle scornful look. Before her bitterness could grow any higher, however, Smog happened to just casually leap into the residence. A bold move for sure, considering they did not know anything of the area just yet, but also apparently effective as he seemed to be fine, for now at least.

Camila followed suit, she first folded her umbrella and tossed it to the other side, then hopped to the other side with easy and grace, after landing and quickly reopening her umbrella, and after cursing under her breath about getting her new jeans wet, she leaned closer to Matsuda.

"You know it's not good to flirt during working hours, right big boy?" then, she placed her index finger on his chest "But don't worry, I can't possibly get mad with someone as cute as you, so let's just focus on the job for now, although...I'd love to chat some more afterwards" She gave him a seductive look as she trailed her finger down for around an inch before pulling away, Mothman may be cute, but Camila knew that she was the one with real game. She then proceeded to walk towards the house for further examination, her tail swaying from side to side with confidence.

No kind of movement or sound could be noticed by looking at the windows of the house or the garage, it really looked like the house was completely abandoned...Yet leaving now would be a very naive mistake fitting of a rookie, and the clever Lilim would never be caught making such a thing. She approached the outer gate and and directed her face toward the duo outsde.

"Come on, we're getting in, I may not see the guy inside, but if he's not hiding, we at least may find some leads".

MILO NAGISA

Phoenixes Arc 2: Scene 1 [The Recruit]
LOCATION:
South District
PARTICIPANTS:
Boltius, Hector, Milo
THE RECRUIT
This isn't how I wanted to see you again.

The stunt with the SUV—which had taken him hours to paint, and even longer to bring to life—had bought Milo precious moments... He used them all on this.

How much could he communicate in a look? Could a look say, 'It's good to see you again. I'm sorry I didn't call'? Could it communicate the depths of his regret, the nights he'd laid awake in bed agonizing beside an unsent text message, only to delete it all and start over? Right now, as he stared across the expanse of space that separated him from Boltius, all Milo could think about was how little had really changed. All it took was one look at Boltius and Milo was a kid again. They could've been meeting up here—maybe they had met here, once—before going off on some adventure or another... Karaoke, maybe. Or dinner at the Beckman house. Or to that spot by the river. We could go there right now, Milo thought, blinking back tears that fought to be shed. We could go to one of those places now, and it'll be like old times again.

But that moment of belief swiftly passed. In Boltius' eyes, Milo did not see what he'd expected to see, what he'd hoped to see... Well, no. It wasn't fair, he knew. He knew it wasn't fair of him to expect Boltius to forgive him on the spot. They would need time. Time to undo the harm that his absence, his silence, had wrought on their friendship. But maybe, just maybe, they could start to heal each other right here, right now...

"Bolt, I—"

“COME ON, HECTOR! FUCK’IM UP, DAWG! YOU EARNED THAT TITLE AND I’LL BE DAMNED TO SEE YOU LOSE IT, YO!”

... Milo's mouth fell open. He stared, unblinking, as Boltius turned away from him to cheer on Hector against him. It felt like the world had begun to tilt off its axis. Milo became suddenly acutely aware of his own breathing, of the sound of his heart beating. He knew—he knew—that he had no right to be surprised. But even so, he couldn't believe what he was hearing... A tear stung his cheek, one he was quick to wipe away. He didn't have time for this, right now.

As if on cue, Hector was charging for him again. The SUV had barely seemed to slow him down. But that, too, had been expected. And after all, Milo still had a few surprises left on this quiet, modest side street. All he had to do was lead him to the— shink!

The sound of the metal blade whizzing by his ear shattered Milo's train of thought. It was only by some small miracle that he'd managed to duck his head out of the way in time. Even so, a thin trickle of blood now ran down his cheek from where the metallic sword had sliced through the skin. He half-vaulted, half-stumbled backwards in a last-ditch effort to avoid another slice from Hector's blade.

Before he'd even found his feet again, Milo's hands went to his waistband, producing a now slightly-ruffled sketchpad and pen. With a flourish, he cast the pen-cap to the ground and flipped the pad open to a fresh sheet of paper. You're not standing where you're supposed to, Milo thought to himself as he watched Hector gun for him once again—barely giving him any space to breathe—as his hand flew over the rapidly-filling up parchment. So MOVE!

With one final scratch of the pen, Milo tore the paper loose and threw it into the air. It hung there for a moment, caught by an invisible breeze, before the images imparted upon it tore themselves loose from its surface, bursting into the air with a cacophonous CAWCAWCAWCAW—

The murder of inky blue crows swarmed the Phoenix Ace, pecking with their beaks and slashing with their talons, both of sharpened steel, as Milo readied another page in his sketchpad. They weren't as real, as life-like, as the patches of sidewalk and the SUV had been. They were sloppy work, at best, but even so... A botched piece of art can still get the job done in a pinch.

Even now, as he fought for his life, Milo was thinking of him. Of how badly he'd messed things up. Of how desperately he wished he could take it all back. But above all that, one thought drove him. One solitary wish. Tears stung his eyes as he dragged his pen across the paper. Bolt...

EDEAEFD2-61A5-41AA-89C0-34B291FBD5F0.jpegOnce the earplugs were no longer in hand, she smiled and nodded, seeing that Smog had said his thanks. He even put one in. Quick on the uptake, she felt. Yes, this group should be fine.

The next thing Smog did caused her to blink a few times. Plum? Glum? No, it was definitely plum. Like her hair? Cause she was purple?

Regardless, she smiled in response before Smog had stepped away.

No, she did not see Lilim’s reaction.

Watching as Smog took a hop, she also looked at the building they were meant to approach.

Chou tilted her head to the side, then to the other— inspecting.

The wall surrounding the house wouldn’t be an issue. She was athletic and taking a quick climb and hop would be easy enough.

When Tazz directed an answer at her— “Feels a bit loike no one’s home, so… Ah’m thinkin we can do wotevah we’d loike.”— well, yeah she didn’t hear it.

The tap on her shoulder by Tazz grabbed her attention. Looking over, she grinned, then she noticed the screen lighting up her face.
With a quick read, she pointed at one ear and nodded. Her other hand typed into her phone for a text-to-talk, “Deaf. And thank you!

If the man wasn’t here then… well… there would be no qualms getting inside somehow. It’s not like they were there to rob him.

Her face was looking toward the gate, seeing Lilim make words towards them.

With a nod, she tapped Tazz’s shoulder just in case he wasn’t paying attention before running at the wall.

She took a hop, her sneaker hitting midway to give her an extra boost.

At the top of the wall, she perched, her palms flat against the concrete. She concentrated for a moment, seeing if there would be anything special she’d feel.

Only if she deemed it safe, she would take a graceful leap down, ending it in a roll with her palms on the ground once again, concentrating.

She hummed before standing.

Let’s be careful,” she text-to-talked once she pulled her phone back out.

Approaching the building, she pressed her palms up against it as she approached closer and closer to the door.

Something had her attention, causing her to cautiously slow down.

A Dangerous Game / Home Cookin'

Eight minutes remaining.

Everyone was in place. With a nod to the team - whether it was for their reassurance or hers was unclear - Isobel walked to the edge of the building next to Callahan’s ladder, and carefully lowered herself down the side. Even if they were built stronger than those without potentials, falling from the roof of a four storey building wasn’t going to be pleasant. Positioned above their chosen window, she let go of the ledge and landed lightly on the window sill, catching herself on the frame before tipping back. There, lying in a hammock by the window, was none other than the Jack of the Phoenixes himself. It was hard not to recognize that ostentatious fur trimmed jacket of his. Over his shoulder she also noticed the second heartbeat in the room that she had picked up earlier. Seated in a chair at the center of the room was an imposing looking woman with white hair. Isobel had no recollection of the woman which was a good thing as it meant that they had likely never crossed paths and anonymity was exactly what she needed to pull this off.

Taking a deep breath she composed herself and lightly knocked on the glass.

***

Alex had been focused on the still form of Auvura, sitting in the chair as she processed the claw set in her hands. The wait in this process sometimes drove Alex up a wall, but the outcome, the information he learned was often worth it. He was just starting to stare at the items that lined his walls when there was a knock on the window behind him. Alex didn’t have to doubt what the sound was, after all, windows were his favorite form of door. If it was someone that wanted to hurt him, then they would have attacked instead of knocking, at least that’s what Alex believed.

Twisting himself within the hammock was a little awkward, but he always was moving his body in awkward ways at night anyways. However, he wasn’t quite ready for the surprise of Isobel, hair bleached Isobel, being on the other side. His head moved back for a moment, before he squinted at Isobel like she had just done something stupid. Well, she did. She was here while several Phoenixes were in the apartment. Making no effort to hide his power, the oily energy emitted from his body while he held up a hand to signify her to wait. The nebulous energy formed into a metallic puppet hand that glided over to the sole entrance into the room and closed it. At the same time, Alex commanded the snow leopard below him to go sit by Auvura.

“What are you doing here? I haven’t gotten to the west in weeks.” Alex signed slowly.

Isobel rolled her eyes. “Show off.” She responded. Alex let out a disgruntled sigh and hopped out of his hammock as the metal hand flew over to where it connected with the ceiling and unhooked it. Backing up from the window, he let his power do the work to keep the hammock out of the way. Unknown to him, as Alex had been busying himself, Isobel managed to get a better look at the woman in the chair, more specifically the item in her hand. In person, the ivory claw was a lot less impressive than what she had been expecting based on the vision Elias had shown her. Then again, she collected broken timepieces and chipped ceramics so who was she to judge? Her job also was to get the claw, not evaluate it.

Keeping her poker face, she fixed her attention back to Alex. “Is she… okay?” Isobel casually asked with a nod towards the woman behind him. “She seems a little out of it.”

“She’s using her power on that claw…”
Alex stopped himself part of the way through the thought. It was best to not give her the full truth about Auvura’s power. “Until she comes back to, disturbing her process could make things disappear and cause her harm. And I’d rather not have that thing or my other goodies poof, you know?” Alex walked up to the window and unlocked it, staring Isobel straight in the eyes. Speaking in a whisper, “There’re a lot of Phoenixes here, and I don’t want you hurt, so you’ll have to go with anything I say should anyone else notice you here, you understand?”

Isobel jumped down from the window sill, her feet not making a sound as she landed. It would appear that whatever the woman was doing with the claw left her vulnerable, which was good for them should it come down to an altercation between the two parties, but according to the Jack there was also a chance they could entirely lose the claw should they interrupt whatever it was that she was doing. Isobel weighed her options internally, wondering if it was worth risking their supposed prize. Might not even have a choice.

"I won't stay long. Consider this a courtesy visit." With a flick of her wrists, she produced a calling card between her fingers. On the front, was the familiar image of a hummingbird. "We found this is one of our client's storehouses. It contained certain items that were owed to our King and he wants them back.” She signed, picking her words carefully. “It won't be long before I'm going to be asked to look for it and we both know where that's going to lead. For your sake, it would be best if you put the things you took back before the Tigers come hunting. They probably won’t be as forgiving." Isobel knew the chances of him biting was next to none, but she needed to buy herself time. Time that was quickly running out.

Alex considered Isobel’s words, and he knew several of those items were either on display, or in the closet within the same room they stood in. He also knew Auvura held the claw which came from the warehouse. With that thought in mind Alex carefully backed up, imposing himself between the two women in the room, making the chair Auvura sat in float barely off the ground and glide towards the door. “Well, go ahead and look at the items displayed on the walls for now, after all this is where I’d escape to, so you took the fun out of the chase.” Alex signed his words carefully, knowing a mistake could lead to Auvura being harmed. “And if you want what she has, you gotta wait.” Of course, the thief within him didn’t want to give anything up, but as Jack of the Phoenixes, protecting his people came first.

Isobel tensed, eyes narrowed as she watched Alex moved the woman and their prized claw further away. This had to be a trick. Was this a trick? She wasn’t sure. Her fingers twitched, itching to make a grab for the claw but resisted. A wrong move and she could have an entire house of Phoenixes on her in a snap. Outside, she heard a murder of crows gathering alongside the encroaching rain clouds gradually darkening the room. She never understood why they used the term “murder” to describe a group of crows but it certainly lent itself to the growing air of ominosity that she felt.

Her eyes flicked to the clock Alex had on the wall. Three minutes remaining. It was at this point, the woman in the chair awoke with a start, blood pouring from her eyes and nose. The crows also seemed to have gotten louder. Isobel had no idea what had happened but she knew she needed to get out of here now.

“I'm sorry. This isn’t personal.” She signed to Alex. She placed two fingers in her mouth and gave a loud, high pitched whistle, her signal to Mbaye to grab the claw.

You’re right,” Akira mused, now resting his upper body on the ledge of the balcony while leering at the unsuspecting guests with malicious eyes. “The rich do always end up working with the gangs. It might as well be a key requirement of being wealthy at this point…

His red orbs landed on a particular head of silver hair. As he tracked the young boy’s movements from above, a grin slowly curled onto his face.

...Some tend to bite off more than they can chew, though, of course.

Akira continued to watch the pale-haired man– who he was able to quickly identify as Jesper Albrecht– as he headed to the vast table of desserts. A curious eyebrow rose on his forehead as he witnessed Jesper grab a cup of crème brûlée.

So, your mother’s here too, then?

His smile widened even more, now having fully taken its shape on his face.

Show me where she is.

Just as Jesper was going to obey Akira’s silent command, his departure was interrupted by a… peculiar appearance. He let out an audible ‘tch’ as the stranger, older man approached his target. You’re annoying me, old man. Go away.

He wouldn’t have shown his annoyance so passively in any other situation, but he was comfortable around the people in his near vicinity.

Yes, Akira was comfortable around his child and his child’s mother. Perhaps he was going soft?

But!” He spoke up, finally breaking the brief pause between his last sentence and his current one. “Who am I to accuse others of biting off more than they can chew? I do that all the time, don’t I?

He gently pushed himself off of the balcony’s ledge, adjusting his blazer and tie before taking a step towards the exit to the family’s balcony. “Enough of my rambling, though, Lucy. I’m going to–

His escape into mischief was quickly halted by someone who was proving to be quite the mischievous one himself. Had Adam noticed that his father was planning on stirring this very large pot? Or, once again, was he just a child being a child? Despite growing up around plenty of children, Akira himself still wasn’t sure. Still, he reached down to grab his son’s hands, twirling him around to keep him entertained long enough for him to slip away.

Hopefully you can dance better than I can, Adam! Daddy’s no good at entertainment at all, hmm?

While they danced, the echoing sound of shoes tapping against the stage caused his eyes to jump towards it, quickly locking onto Basilio.

An airshow? Hmm...

He slipped his hands under Adam's arms, hoisting the young boy high enough so that he could safely view the colorful display from the window.

As delightful of an experience as it was for both him and his son, he was growing impatient. He looked over to Lucy and slightly smiled with a pleading look in his eyes.

"You should hold him too, Angel."

“A distraction for what exactly? What is it your not telling us?” It's as though she was somewhat coherent for a moment but it didn't take long for her to freak out again. Looks like she's back in the past again. He's going to have to force her to remember. “Oh no, you didn't escape.” Lorrin grabbed Red by the throat forcing her to stare right at him. “I'm honestly quite sad normally id be happy if my face was forgotten but for you, it's honestly quite infuriating. If I wasn't on the job id probably would have killed you.” His grip slightly tightens. “And how easy it would be now than it was back then remember our little fight, remember how I took you down with such little ease. How I told you if you didn't give yourself up this is exactly what was going to happen. You didn't escape Princess you failed and like it or not your going to tell us what we want to know.” His grip slightly loosens to allow her to speak. “Now who is Blue again?”

Bolt’s skin, and his immediate surroundings, adopted a wintery chill much colder than the forecasted temperature, but he failed to notice by his intense focus on Hector and Milo’s fight.

Hector shaped his metal into an edged weapon and charged for Milo.

As he did, Boltius felt his heart pause in his chest, and all of the air in his lungs seemed to solidify.

He didn’t know why Milo was here, nor what he thought he was doing. However, one thing was truly for certain… And it’s that Boltius didn’t want to see him die.

When Hector’s blade slit the skin of Milo’s cheek, Boltius flinched, and his temperature reverted back to normal. He didn’t like it.

No, he didn’t like this, at all.

“B-... Bro, don’t kill’im! He’s got a Potential! We’ll take’im to Lyric, dawg! Shit’s valuable!” He called, sounding unsure, somewhat forced as though he were an amateur actor reading off the lines of his first script.

Milo moved with haste, sketched something quick on his sketchpad, which Boltius was already familiar with, then the loud squawking of blue, inky crows erupted. They pecked and clawed at Hector, and, still, Boltius stood in place, respecting the Ace’s fight by not getting involved. And he would continue to do so.

Crap.

That was all Jesper could think, meeting eyes with the old man who'd came up to him. He'd been caught right in the middle of transferring a cream puff to his already heavy plate, freezing in place. The stranger's remark only served to make the air around Jesper hotter. Of course, some sociable person would approach him right when he's found something to enjoy at the party.

"Ahah..." Jesper quietly put the cream puff and the tongs back on the stand. "I heard that sugar calms the nerves, is all." Though he said that, the boy slowly slid the tray away as he fully turned to face the man. Not so far into the party, and he already felt mortified—a fantastic start to the rich people event.

The heir felt his phone vibrate; his friends must have been messaging again, and here he was, stuck with an old geezer... Actually, who was this old man? Jesper didn't recognize him—not that that was saying much, for he only really knew a few families in the same upper-class circle... What do I talk about, now...?

He almost peeked up to where his mother sat—then immediately shifted his gaze back. He didn't want to risk exposing her location through his eyes. Why didn't I just stay with her...? You haven't been thinking right, Jesper.

He forced his mouth open as to not draw out into an awkward silence, but was thankfully interrupted by the entrance of Basilio Seda. Though his announcement was short, it let Jesper compose himself once more. Regardless of the escape option, he chose to stay, though— he didn't like being amid crowds, and it wasn't like it guaranteed getting the stranger off his back. Best to entertain him and move on; that's what his mother did at these parties. The young Albrecht could hear the jets boom through the building as the colored gas fell from the sky. Just over the heads of the gathering spectators, he caught a glance of the performance...

"Funny, that they even bothered to represent the Serpents as well—when have they ever contributed anything of importance?" he remarked, trying not to come across as degrading, but merely poking fun at the fact.

Meirin Azuza
SCENE:
Tiger Arc 2: Scene 2 [Matter of Time]
LOCATION:
Eternal Night Palace, East District
PARTICIPANTS:
Dante, Reveler, Ruriko, Meirin
Matter of Time

White-haired asshole? Bridge-pileup? THREE of them? White hair was common enough that no particular person came to Meirin’s mind…but with Ruriko’s revelation—confirmation really—of Swallowtail being on the bridge, it was becoming more and more obvious that Jay’s missing friend wasn’t acting on her own. The ‘former’ brothel worker seemed to be neck-deep in with a group of people opposing the Dragons. Adding traffic disturbance with potential murder to her list of crimes made it less likely that the butterfly-lover would get away with a simple slap-on-the wrist if caught by the Azure Dragon gang. As much as Meirin wanted to honor her friend’s request, it was becoming more and more difficult to do so…

Meirin sighed. Lost in thought, she blinked when she felt Callan’s tail lift her overhead…then drop her, instinctively twisting her body and lifting her knees, so she avoided the table and landed with her ass on his lap instead of...well…her feet. Probably not a very comfortable position, standing on his knees that is, but he still she still heard him gasp…making her a bit conscious about her weight. “Wha—?”

"Oh my goodness, so kind o you to drop in Mei my dear."

Her eyebrow rose as he continued to speak, arms wrapping around his neck and scooting so she sat in a more comfortable position. Curious red eyes met alluring lilac inquisitively…until she felt the finger tracing up and down her arm.

Ohhhhhh.

Face flushing, Meirin giggled. Callan was seriously horny. Well, whatever. She didn’t mind her current position, it felt nice, and was just starting to relax into it when Callan stopped, his expression growing serious. Meirin tilted her head, her brows furrowing. “Crush? Like, why would I do that?”

Letting go of Callan’s neck, Meirin folded her arms and let out a huff of annoyance. “Sure, I’m a Dragon, but I don’t kill people just because I don’t trust them…” A lot of people would already be dead otherwise. “There’s a trial for such things. We don’t indiscriminately kill based on personal whims.” Most of the time. The bridge thing still made little sense to her, but she chalked it up to an accident rather than any malicious intent on the King's part. “If I ever purposely execute a person it’s because they’ve done something to deserve it, the higher ups decided it was necessary to protect the peace of the East District, or I have little choice in the matter. Even then, there’s typically a vote…” Amongst Dragon leadership “and they are usually given a choice…”

Maybe.

Many of Eternal Night Palace’s workers were former criminals that have undergone the trial, after all…but it really depended on who was leading the gang at the time and what their options were. Shen didn’t attend very many Dragon Trials as far as Meirin was aware…unless they interested him. Even then, she wasn’t even sure their current King paid them very much attention since he usually deferred his decision to another…like Yo. And, sometimes, the Board got involved. Frankly, Meirin didn’t know much about the alignment of former Kings, Queens, and individuals powerful enough to be part of the ‘Board’. ‘Veteran’ she may be, but she only just barely made the cut, having been an active member for 5 years…and the only Dragon ‘Royalty’ she really got involved with was Isabel Capitani. Now Shen and Yo.

Flicking a lock of brown hair out the way, Meirin glanced between Reveler and Callan before shrugging. “Anyway, if you say you’re a friend and ally of the Dragons, then I’d believe it until you prove otherwise. I don’t have a reason to doubt you and, frankly, everyone has things they’d rather keep to themselves. I know as much about your past as I do Revie’s.” Essentially, not much. But she trusted all those who received the Dragon invitation to have her back on a gang-related mission all the same. “I’d trust Shen more than I trust my Ex-boyfriend, even though I’ve known the latter for longer. “ Meirin giggled. “So it depends on what you mean by trust, I guess.” She trusted Jun more than she trusted any Dragon and she trusted those in her gang more than she did people in other gangs. “You’re an associate of Eternal Night Palace. I don’t think you’re a bad person. I trust Jun knows what she’s doing when she hired you to perform here and I trust you know what you’re doing when it comes to sex~ As for whether I trust you to have my back in a fight…that’s a hard no until you show me otherwise I’m afraid~” At the very least, not as much as the comrades whom she fought arms in arms with. She had no reason to believe that a civilian erotic dancer could even fight…though he seemed to have a strong tail.

Winking teasingly at Callan, Meirin once more had her arms around his neck as she leaned in. “You’ve got an air of mystery about you, Cal–starting with a bit of an accent that doesn’t sound fully Amestrian to the sexy potential I don’t fully understand–so I can’t help but be curious and I don’t blame Revie for wanting to drive her nails into mystery as well~, but you don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to. It wouldn’t really affect my trust either way.”

Merin trusted her gut. Always had. Always will. There were times when her gut was wrong of course–the image of a violet-eyed, dark haired individual coming to mind–but, as a whole, she wouldn’t have it any other way. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s been betrayed and it wouldn’t be the last. Meirin didn’t tend to like liars (which only reminded her of a person she’d rather forget). She tended to take a straightforward approach to things. That said, it wasn’t as if she couldn’t appreciate people who were clever and able to do the things she couldn’t. She’d always wanted to be like her sister.

Like Reveler, even. Her fellow Dragon had a certain…charisma…about her–the aura of a confident and mature woman who knew what she wanted. Many of the Dragon ladies did. And Ruriko was just cool.

Meirin almost forgot she was still holding onto her phone when she felt it vibrate with a text from Jun Azuza

Helvas smile didn't waver a bit when Dimitri winked at her, she was more so slightly amused by it than anything else. As Helva listened to Dimitri opinion on the event she couldn't help but share the sentiment of wanting to leave, but unlike Dimitri for her, leaving was out of the question, for many reasons, one this event could potentially affect the Phoenixs, two the pesky Albrechts were here, three someone in her family had to go to this event and it might as well of been her. Luckily meeting a Phoenix such as Dimitri made her relax her guard a bit since he was considered a trust worthy Phoenix, sponsored by Reika herself as well, which doesn't happen too often. Though the invite to dance by Dimitri made her smile turn into a wicked smirk, the fact he wanted to dance with her clearly peaked her interest, while Helva hasn't danced in a minute, she is still good with her feet, not as good as Libla but still. She has danced many times before and even fought danced with Zulin a few times, so she figured that it would be good to humor him just a bit. Helva then took his hand "Why I'd be delighted to dance with you Dimitri, i sure do hope i can make your day more interesting in the same way you made mine." she then gave Zahira a apologetic smile and nod as she was to be put at a distance to give them a bit of space, which would make her protection job a bit harder.

Zahira didn't mind all that much though not even putting much thought into if he was lying or not, as she didn't exactly mind the fact that Dimitri declined the offer to drink, it was more so a courtesy to ask anyways, and all it did was save her the trouble of having to fetch two drinks anyways. But seeing as how Helva and Dimitri were now prepping to dance with one another, "If that is what you wish Sir, i do wish you well in your Dance with Ms.Linxal." after of which Zahira went on excuse herself to go fetch another drink for Helva as she was sure she would want another one once she returns from dancing with Dimitri.

Helva meanwhile was quick to take Dimitris hand as he led her to a spot on the dance floor with just enough space to be able to maneuver around freely. Helva couldn't help but smirk when Dimitri asked if she danced often "Yes, why i have danced quiet a bit when i was growing up, family always wanted that skill to be taught to me." And when Helva was given the opportunity to set the pace her smile widened as she put her free arm around Dimitris waist and pulled Dimitri close to her, so close that her head was practically against his chest, as she then looked up at him as if daring for him to back out, before she then spoke "Becareful on what opportunities you give me, cause I'll make sure this becomes a hefty work out for the both of us, hope you can keep up." Without much warning she held their arms out to the side of them and lead them in that direction their arms were directing them to, after a few steps she stopped took a single step back and directed their arms downward, before pivoting them both around into a sort of spin. Helvas mind then began to move into auto pilot as she was prepping to move at a faster pace while still maintaining their grace as they moved fluidly across the dance floor.

HOSTILE AGENDA
<<< Remember
anime-citrus-architecture-brick-wallpaper-thumb (1).jpg

Before he’d shown her his phone, the interaction between Smog and Moth gave August pause, and he thought to himself: Is ‘is flirtin’?

Then when she read his typed message, the light reflecting in her eyes as he measured her expression for any signs of offense, August nodded and gave her a thumbs-up.

Most of the sign language he’d learned, at this point, consisted of basic greetings, introductions, and a few warning gestures in case he needed them, but nothing useful in conversation, so he made no mention of it.

One by one, each of the Tigers made it from one side of the concrete fence to the other, with August being the last, behind Mothman, who was running her hands along the side of the house by the time he was up and over via a boost of wind.

Standing beside Smog, who was between him and Camila, he watched her: Moth. And he wondered what she was doing for only a second before it clicked.

“Ah. Makes sense,” he mumbled aloud. Then, “Ay, Lilim, wot’s ‘is remind ya of?” he asked, waiting, then gestured to how the three of him, Smog, and Cam were standing. Afterward, a smile behind his mask, “Issue eighty-eight?... Racketeerin’ With Lolith Cross? When they burgled Marion Hex’s sheltah?”

August didn’t expect a response, but, still, his eyes lingered on Camila for a moment before wandering back over to Chou.

A moment of silence, then he started talking again while approaching the home. “Y’know, we could just… Knock. As fah as we know, mate’s unaware of us comin’... But if ‘es not he’ah, ah don’t think ‘es comin’ back anytime soon… So… Also, we’ve gotta do this Ludio-style,” Ludio being a character from his favorite comic, “An’ keep it careful’s wot our client said. Doesn’t want it known ‘at she’s consortin’ with gangs ‘n’ wot not… Bad foh business, an’ I dunno about you mates, but ah’d loike t’ see tha development of Alduron’s Wrath as a video game.”

And with that, August closed his eyes in a pretty, unseen smile, one hand behind his back, and knocked swiftly upon the door.

No response, as expected.

So, he did what any normal person would do… and knocked again, simply to amuse himself. Looking back at Camila, he played the part of an awkward realtor showing a nice family—the family being Cam and Smog—their dream home, only the previous family had locked themselves inside, out of spite, after changing the locks on the doors.

“Theh usually not loike this~ Just a bit upset, is all. No biggie, mates~” He gave a well-rehearsed, nervous laugh, then yanked at the door’s handle.

“Ah’m ‘onna getcha in this home, ya lovely couple,” he said jokingly despite the lack of emotion in his voice, stepping back a little.

He then held up a straight hand, folded his thumb across his palm, and wind began to spiral around it, starting slow but picking up rapidly until the entirety of his forearm from elbow to fingertips was fully enveloped. The wind tapered to a sharp, rotating point like a nail carbide, and August used it to drill an arm-sized hole through the face of the door, close enough to the deadbolt that he could unlock it with ease from the inside.

However, rather than open the door, he wrinkled his nose at a strong odor wafting out…

“Is ‘at…?” August sniffed loudly. “Gasoline?”

He started to think there was more at play here than some basic blackmail.

Hands up in forfeit, he decided to pass the baton of initiative back to someone else, and stepped away from the door. “Yeh, no, hah, not interested in ‘at… Ah’m just gonna…” He stood at the exit gate. “Just gonna wait roight he’ah… Actu’lly,” he glimpsed his wrist-watch, “Ah’ve got a dentist appointment at three, so ah should reeeally get to that…” Hands came down to smack his lap, “Butchu mates seem competent enough! No need fuh me t’ stick aroun’, yeh?”

Though he said that, some numbers flitted across his mind, he recalled what day it was, and the sad sum sitting in his checking account told him that he needed credit for the completion of this job if he wanted to pay Markus on time this month. There was that, but also that he’d just placed a wild bid on a rare Wu-Gi-Oh card online that was looking good for him.

So, taking a moment to stew in reluctance as he pinched the skin between his eyebrows above his goggles, he pieced together a few crude ideas based on potential security measures in place, or even a blatant trap based on the gasoline.

“Nevahmoind, appointment was canceled- just remembahed.”

He hadn’t paid much attention to their first briefing on the whole mission, but there were bits of information that he’d pick up nonetheless. The most notable being the aforementioned, that Jelica Cross didn’t want her working with the Tigers becoming known to the public, lest Christen Kinslee use it against her.

Pensive, August stared at the front door.

Why would Christen Kinslee fake being sick on social media and leave his house seemingly doused in gasoline? Unless he thought, for certain, that someone was out to get him, and would be paying him a personal visit.

Did Christen have suspicions about Jelica?

“A bit sketchy, don’tchu think, mates?”

The most important question, right now, was: What lies beyond the door?

Meanwhile, just across the street, a transparent figure wore some bushes with a camera perched at his eye.

“Come on. Come on. Just open the door… Wait- Is this thing on? Fuckin’- Stupid camera- fkcksfhfd- Dumbass, Chronicle, and his dumbass toys... Did it die? Wait- Oh, no, I clicked- Oh, okay. I got it.”

“Why, I turned 18 around two months ago!"

Oh man what? She was actually 18? Suddenly “coddled rich girl” seemed like an understatement. But he didn’t have the time or the heart to form the usual barbed words he could. It’d be one thing if she were carefree but there was no denying she was being stalked and it wasn’t like there were many outcomes that could come from that.

"I know a much more 'out-of-the-way' route there, through the fire exit. Acacia, er, my caretaker's sister, said I have access anywhere in the mall as long as I have the card."

There was so much to unpack with the rich girl having been given a damn master key to the entirety of the building. Yet there wasn’t the time for any of it.

"Acacia is good friends with the mall owner, so she lets me use the fire escape halls when I wanted to get around without a crowd, and I think she's in one of the connected security rooms..."

There was something to be said about the fact that the fire escape halls required a key to use. Still he knew better than to question. He’d seen how people treated each other in this gods forsaken city.

"Once I'm safe, you can go back to your own thing... I wouldn't want to be a bother any more than I already have."

He didn’t know what it said that she was more concerned about being a bother over the fact that she was being actively stalked.

“Listen. If it was a bother I wouldn’t have bothered. But creeps like them need to be dealt with. You don’t need to worry, I’m more than used to this shit. The East has its own share of problems, and well I wouldn’t be able to do business if I wasn’t able to handle myself.”

He wasn’t sure that telling her he was a Dragon would help ease her mind, but he was sure if he went around broadcasting that he’d see any leads dry up faster than he could say whoops. Saying he planned to come back to beat the creeps six ways to Sunday would probably piss her off more than help considering she already showed some pacifist tendencies.

“Anyways if your Aunt’s so buddy buddy with the Mall owner why you out here getting stalked? Your Aunt also bad at fighting, or just pacifistic like yo-”

He heard his phone start going off as an emergency alert came through.

“What the-”

KING OF THE SABLE SERPENTS SPOTTED IN CENTRAL

The alert continued to sound off with it echoing in every phone in the vicinity. He scanned the alert’s information before rapidly typing looking for any additional information. He found a link to what seemed to be a video and pulled it up. The angle was shaky and low to the floor before he saw a body hit the ground and a scream from offscreen.

“Holy fucking shit.”

He shut it off hoping that the girl hadn’t managed to see.

“We should…. Get going”

A DANGEROUS GAME
<<< Remember

"Right. Let— Oi, put that thing away. The fuck is it, anyway?"

A wide sinister grin that went from ear to ear showed on Act’s face at the voice of his king.

“Traaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackerssssssssssssssssssssssss. Welllll the screen to them. Your little jacky wacky should have some protection right? Lookie see!”

He pointed to the device’s blinking lights before deciding to just bring it up in front of Markus' face scooching even closer, ignoring the driver’s current attempts to motion for him to not do that.

“Look! Look! They're on the move. I got near all of them… probably. Mya and Cally even took them willingly! Scene made them cute little hamster stickers so I slapped one on Isa and Welly before they left. If she dies we even get to watch where the body goes!”

His eyes sparkled as he talked about it completely disconnected from caring despite being one of the Tigers on the relief team for if the plan went sour. Whether he was here for a fight or just out of some strange desire to see the world burn was unclear. What was clear was he was expecting things to not pan out in the slightest.

“So the Phoenixes huh? Wonder if they know if the dude who stole my wallet- THOUGH I didn’t take them for petty thieves. Why do you want a claw anyways? OOO You gonna join us for weapons training? Can I make Isa join if shes new Jack? If MORI DIES CAN I HAVE HER SPOT?”

He was mainly joking about the last part but he sensed he should probably chill out before the King got even more fed up with him.

“OH look they’re moving. Yay.”

He started hitting the joysticks connected to the device, scanning through screens that seemed to have additional information. It was clear the information connected to the trackers. The information included heart rates, locations in longitude and latitude, appearances of the people carrying them, and average expected time to hold their breath of all things. It was clear that there was some form of use for the device but with the speed Act was flying through the tabs on the device it was unlikely many would be able to quickly earn its layout.

“Do you think they could plant one in the place?”

“Just today? Ain’t I always chivalrous?”

That was a rhetorical question, right? She thought it was. Not that she thought it was wrong but she wasn’t going to answer. Instead, she waited for him to continue expectantly.

“I know a good Italian place nearby. They have a TV that plays the news too so we can check if we are the stars of the day.”

She gave a hum of acknowledgment and agreement. As she saw that Yuudai was not going to supply her with a phone. Lunch date or not she didn’t like not having all the information. She could snag a phone off one of the cowards hiding around them but she’d rather not carry around something that might have some tracker on it.

The sound of Sirens and tires screeching to a stop caused her to look up. Oh well, there was the answer to her question now wasn’t there. She felt the drop of Beast’s hand as the Captain of Central came out and spoke. Such a handsome face, and it would be wasted when Beast cleaned the floor with it.

“You make a scene, cops show up… You have a little fun?... What are you, bored?... What’s your play, Beast?”

She turned to the voice and drew her hands across her chest with crossed arms. Oh just ignoring the one who actually gave them the fair warning then? Perhaps it wasn’t a waste after all. She brought her back to the wall behind her as she leaned back to watch the show.

“How nice Dinner and a Show. You really know how to keep things interesting, Beast.”

At least she would have if she hadn’t spotted another little target.

She saw the girl who couldn’t be older than 12 or 13 starting to crawl trying to get out of her line of sight. With a quick squat trying to be unnoticeable as the cops held their attention on Beast she roughly grabbed the girl's arm. The shout of pain quickly alerted her to the girl being an NP.

“Where are you going? It’s rather fortunate to find a lil mouse like you around….. Why don’t you come help me darling. Wouldn’t you like to become a God? You hid so well… you have potential kid I nearly missed you.”

The girl held her grown better than the grown man they’d snapped the head off of earlier as she stayed quiet as a mouse aside from her initial shout of pain. She even moved with the grab as if used to HPs.

“Well… we could always see if the cops think you’re worth bartering for… -HEY BOY don’t you think you should be trying to help Civilians before you go trying to throw your weight around?”

“To my knowledge, there shouldn't be any holidays today, but it might be something from a culture I’m unaware of. But one would think you already had those answers, Queen Snake.”

"I'm not sure, Majesty."

He could feel the annoyance bubbling up as the titles were thrown around. God he hated titles. Useful when he needed ‘em but just another obstacle usually. He’d much rather just be a damn lab leader.

“Drop the titles idiots. We’re in central and suppose to be not making a scene.”

“May- May- May- M- May- Maybe it’s- Maybe it’s a birthday pa--arty! Maybe it’s a- it’s a- it’s a- it’s a f—ield trip. Or maybe there’s a speech going on! Or- or- or- or- or- or maybe it’s Maybelline~. Nyeheh.”

All terrible fucking ideas from the peanut gallery. Despite this he cracked a fake smile and walked over to Ten before leaning over them in a way that could be easily mistaken more for sinisterly hovering over.

“Aww what an idea huh? Wouldn’t that be fucking fun. Or-”

It's a good thing the cheers from the plaza cut him off, he was starting to get a little too mean there. Ten was a useful resource, had to keep the little dude happy to fuck with Darius. Above visible through the glass dome the jets and trails of color seemed to catch the attention of everyone below.

“Well that answers it… some fancy smanshy rich people showing off. Kid you wanna try grabbing some dragons out of the crowd?”

Tigers Arc 2: Scene 6 [All Proceeds]
LOCATION:
Cloudwalk Stadium, South District
PARTICIPANTS:
Passeri, Daemon, Sabrina, Dagger, Fahru, Masker Concertgoer K, Minato[/size]
ALL PROCEEDS
As Minato continued checking in with Dagger, Daemon resumed trying to pick up the contents of the box. Cords, remotes, and other assortments of electronics had spilled out in front of him, and he did his best to ignore the looks he got from the rest of the backstage crew. He could feel their gazes burning into his skull as he did his best to grab everything he could. Usually he had no trouble cleaning up any of his messes when he was working any other of his jobs. He wouldn't think much of it when it happened, either. But today, as he fumbled with the contents of the box, doing his best to hastily put them back in the box, he felt his heart begin to race faster. He just wanted to do his best and get out of there.

He felt an arm wrap around him, pulling him back slightly as he reached out to grab a lightbulb that had began to roll away, and he turned his head just enough to see Minato continue chatting with the head of the events security. In the last two years since Daemon had been 'recruited' into the Tigers, Daemon did his best to avoid run-ins with any of the more tenured members of the gang, though he wouldn't be rude or hostile to any of them he had to interact with. All in all, he tried his best to be pleasant with them. He didn't want to incur any of their wrath with a wrong move. And typically they just wanted something and would forget about him until they needed his help again. It was simple, though less than ideal for the lad.

Minato was different. Daemon could never get a solid, good feeling on the slightly older male. He wasn't sure if it was genuine feelings of liking Daemon or if it was a sort of enforcement tactic to keep an eye on him, but whenever they ran into one another, Minato would get completely up in his personal space, acting like they were best friends. It made Daemon uneasy, to say the least, and he felt bad for it. He had almost no friends, relying mainly on Fahru as his support when he needed it, and that was usually enough for him. But Minato...what was he really to him?

And suddenly he was ripped from his thoughts, as Minato was staring down at him, Daemon just catching the question that escaped the man's lips. Daemon looked around, as the stares from before seemed to have dispersed slightly and people were getting back to their jobs. The tightness in his chest began to relax, and he let out the breath he had been holding quietly before making his response, continuing to pick up and inspect what he dropped, to make sure nothing was completely damaged. "I wouldn't call what I'm doing fun, sir. But it's busy-work, and it makes me feel good to get things done, so I guess I'm a little bit glad? Better than sitting around and doing nothing."

It seemed his words fell on deaf ears, however, as suddenly he was faced by a second Minato. Daemon's brow furrowed as the both of them put their phones away and turned, sprinting down the corridor. Probably orders from that new woman, Dagger, who was running point on the whole security of the event. Whatever job she had him on now, that meant Daemon would have some time to get some more work done, maybe try and leave early and catch a shift at one of the casinos. He finished putting everything back in the box, and with a grunt hoisted it up with himself, preparing to continue on his way to one of the lighting operators, when suddenly he was grabbed by the arm and yanked by one of the Minatos in the direction they had been going. The sudden motion caused him to lose his grip on the box and Daemon could only watch helplessly while being pulled to who knew where as the entire box split open upon impact with the ground, the faint sounds of glass and plastic shattering, and he knew it was gonna be another long day...

~~~
In all honesty, it was easy to keep up with Minato. Between his experience playing baseball in high school and keeping himself physically active with his jobs, he was positive that without any Potential, he was one of the faster members of the Tigers. He barely was breaking a sweat as he jogged behind the veteran member, looking from side to side, wondering why he was really being dragged along on this. Maybe there was some trouble and Minato wanted to just abuse his ability? Or Minato wanted to use him for some nefarious reasons. Either way, he wasn't allowed to say no, and as such he could do nothing but follow.
As they made their way, they ended up passing an opening into the stadium hall, and Daemon took a quick look inside. It was empty, most of the work done already to prepare to let in the masses waiting to see the main event. All in all, he respected what Passeri Park was doing. A fundraiser to help a district that one didn't come from took, in his opinion, some major dedication to the city. It was rather nice, finding a cause that felt it could fix any bad relationships between the different gangs. He just hopped it didn't draw in the wrong cro-.
He thought too soon, as he just barely caught the sight of a shady individual slinking about inside, a multitude of accessories covering their features, making it impossible to tell who they were, or even what gender they could be. As he just made it past the opening and lost sight of the individual, he stuck his feet in the ground, his sneakers squeaking as he slid to a stop, cupping his hands around his mouth in the direction of the other gang member. "Minato, over here!" He turned and quietly made his way to look around the wall he hid behind, watching the suspicious person. If this person was dangerous, then that spelt bad news for Daemon. Maybe it was some good luck that Minato was there.
Kasumi did her best to maintain her composure, but she couldn't help a small sharp breath as she watched Lorrin slap the captive across the face.
She remained silent, seeing what the girl would say, if she could say anything. It was quite clear that her mind was not in the right place, nearing insanity almost. Going days without sleep or proper nourishment could do serious damage without laying a finger on a person.
As she listened, Kasumi reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, opening up a notepad and wrote down notes for her own reference. Something about a distraction? If that was the case, then this girl was tasked to keep Lorrin's group, unable to assist during the events on the bridge. If it wasn't obvious by now, it was clear that the attack was planned in advance. Quite thoroughly too. Kasumi still remembered what happened when she left with Yo and the others from the Dragon HQ. It was almost immediate that they came under fire from a distance.
Her hand moved up, pushing her glasses back up her nose. Kasumi's eyes glanced over to Yo, who hadn't said a word since the interrogation started. There was no doubt the Queen had questions of her own, but why she wasn't participating intrigued Kasumi. Though, she knew better than to question Yo's intentions. One thing was for certain, the Queen knew what they were doing.
Kasumi's attention shifted over to the torture instruments on the table. She was conflicted. Was this the right time to use them? Or should she let Lorrin do all the physical work?
As if on queue, Lorrin pursued his question, following up aggressively as he began to practically choke the girl. Kasumi's eyes widen for a moment, shocked. However, the feeling passed quickly, reassuring herself that Lorrin was in control and knew what he was doing. Kasumi was the only one in the room that was new to this kind of scene.
There were still questions lingering in her mind, but because of her hesitation, Kasumi had lost her chance to ask them. But that was fine. She continued to listen, taking notes of anything the captive would say. Kasumi would have her chance to ask her questions, ideally if the captive decides to be more cooperative.
No way this drunkard didn't fall for Kazue's absolutely brilliant excuse for trying to get them to leave.
”Sick, huh?"
A laugh, barely audible. Unfortunately, that was all the acknowledgment this very intoxicated stranger would give, as, unlike everyone else in the vicinity, she very rudely didn't back away from her little corner of waiting. Oh well. Her best attempt to convince her (one sentence and faking being sick about as convincingly as a grade-schooler wishing to skip school) fell flat. The only course of action remaining was to stand strong. Or sit strong, more like.
Next
came the response to her strangled question.
“I was trying to avoid the Passeri stans that have crowded the back and this seems like a nice, lonely corner. You’re not a stan too, are you?”
The casual questioning reply stung, just a little bit.
"Heh. Well, eh—"
"Well, whatever."
Kazue blinked, a motion concealed by her masterful disguise.
“I’d offer you a can of cheap beer, but that ain’t the best thing to drink when you’re sick.” Another quiet laugh. Another hit of emotional damage. I know you know I'm faking, we can stop this charade already and all that. Fortunately, the alcoholic next to her seemed to shift her focus to Lucifer's performance onstage, shutting her eyes and taking in the opening act.
Silence. At least, about as much silence as could be expected with a band like Lucifer onstage. Kazue pocketed her phone and joined the person next to her in simply taking in the music. Nothing better to do. Nothing to do except grade the band harder.
Vocalist: A bit softer than expected, considering the band's looks and energy on stage. Perhaps the song being covered influenced his style, or maybe they were lowering the intensity to play to the lowest common denominator, but his tone was very clear, not even a growl at the edge. The audience was here to see a pop star after all. Disappointing. 3/10.
Guitar: More softness. It was alright, worked better than the soft vocals. However, the song they were covering was a bit too simple to work with cleaner tone. Some spice and distortion would have made it more distinct, more listenable. 5/10.
Bass: There was no bass guitar. It was completely drowned out. Eyes shut, laser focused, couldn't hear a lick of it. 0/10.
Drums: A monotonous bright spot. Good, but could use some variety. Still, in terms of driving the song along and keeping rhythm, they were great. This guy could probably leave and join a different band. 7/10.
The quiet in the isolated corner was broken again by the drunk stealing her personal space. “Drunk fans really are the worst~!” Kazue craned her head back up to look at the hypocrite again. Too bad her mask prevented her from utilizing her wide array of (nearly indistinguishable) facial expressions in place of an actual comment. Kazue settled for a small chuckle of her own. Haah.
Oh lord, where was her sister to rescue her?
As if on cue, her phone dinged again. Then twice. Three times. Messages from a savior? Kazue fumbled her phone pulling it back out of her pocket, nearly dropping it.
So I ended up getting greedy and hopping into a line for food, because the stuff I tried to bring got confiscated at bag check.
The line hasn't moved for several minutes.
Don't think I'll get out until Passeri takes the stage and some other guys cut their losses and ditch.
A beat. A fourth ping.
pain
She was on her own.
“Oh no. Guns. Whatever am I do to.”
Chikage’s composure flip-flopped inside him, like a dying fish out of water, marked only by a twitch of the eye.
Yeah, he knew the standard gun was a mere bee-sting to HPs, but as it stood, they were an NPs easiest form of protection. It gave them a sense of security, if even in the slightest degree.
At the next quip from the Beast’s mouth, Chikage’s countenance twisted into an ugly scowl.
“Freed them?” The Captain stepped closer. “YOU FREED THEM!?... AND WHO ARE YOU TO DECIDE THEY WERE IMPRISONED!? WITHOUT THE WEAK, YOU ARE NOT STRONG, BEAST, LEAVING YOU AS POINTLESS AS THE REGIME YOU UPHOLD! YOU AND YOUR WASTE OF IDOLATERS, DRAGGING THE INNOCENTS OF THIS CITY INTO YOUR SILLY GREED-GAMES!” Chikage gestured furiously as he spoke. ”YOUR UNNECESSARY POWER STRUGGLE WITH THE OTHERS!”
“THE PURPOSE OF THE STRONG IS TO PROTECT AND GUIDE THE WEAK AGAINST THE ONES WHO ABUSE, BREAK, AND DISREGARD! THESE PEOPLE HAVE FAMILIES!... LOVED ONES!... FOR EVERY LIFE YOU TAKE, A SEED OF CHAOS IS SOWN!”
“I won’t let the people of this city be swept into your wickedness. You are not fit for power… If you’re the only one with a hammer and all you do is swing it to break, then you are truly lost, because a hammer’s purpose is to build...”
His dramatic prose drew to an end. Chikage knew the holes in his logic—the vice versas and existing contentions. Without the strong, there are no weak~ And whatnot. But he had settled on this belief after a long, long time.
There would always be someone stronger than the rest, and as such, it was that person’s inherent duty to lead.
But what worth was a leader that devalued its people? That toyed with them for their own entertainment and brought them pain out of boredom?
It would never be the case that everyone is satisfied, but, at the very least, Chikage would do what he could to protect the innocent, and make this city a safer place.
“HEY BOY-” called Dreamer, another face with which Chikage was familiar.
Still scowling, he looked at her, then to the civilian girl in her clutches. He’d already put two officers on a sweep for civilians, hoping to clear the area of innocents before a potential fight while he stalled, but this came as no surprise. It happened in most cases—civilians were like magnets to a fridge to these gangsters.
A scale, now, teetered before him… On one side, Beast and Dreamer, and on the other, the innocent girl.
Which was more important?
Cherry orbs counted the officers down the street, those who converged from the opposite corner of him—six—then fixed back on Dreamer as Chikage noted the four officers behind him, previously six, as well, before he ordered two of them to sweep the area upon arrival.
He was the only HP on the scene that he knew of. And with the theft of CDPD’s most recent shipment of HP-effective firearms, they lacked offensive power.
The girl was more important.
He knew what letting them go, Beast and Dreamer, would mean. Capture them here and now, which wasn’t looking to be an easy job (then again, it never was), and prevent the involvement of more civilians in the future—or worry about the one girl who is here and now.
To disregard her would only create a fracture through which the gangs could stick their greedy fingers, and would eliminate any hope and trust she previously had in the police.
He was just one man, and his actions did not define the others, but he represented them.
Pressing the button on his walkie, Chikage called in to his dispatcher, briefly explaining the hostage situation and quietly requesting any HP support available, then stood straight and faced the Serpents again, cutting the volume of his walkie low.
“What do you want?” he asked calmly. “For the girl, you can have it.”
cc0c3be4d1d7e30fda1be38c345365ea.pngOliver Lawless was known for being fashionably late—he liked it that way, thought it made him look cool.
His reasons behind being an officer of the law were much less… noble… than those of Chikage’s. He simply took pleasure in being on the losing side. Picture it… Right when it seems all is lost, the police, down on their knees, rise again and seize the winning glory when everyone least expects it!
That was the idea, anyway.
“Huh-huh~” he chuckled at the thought, slapping the end cap of his baseball against the sidewalk every few steps of the way.
“Bet baws is ‘avin’ a good time~... Yuh.” Oliver sang the words.
“He’s probly hustlin’, bustin’ da bad crime~ Yuh.
“Uh bet ‘es down on ‘is knees, beggin’em please- SIKE, bitch, you punk-ass criminal sleaze!”
He shuffled his feet in dance, spun, then took a moment to recalibrate to his surroundings. Which way again?
Right~ Thatta way.
Then started, again, in the direction of the location of Dreamer and Beast, all the while continuing to bang his bat against the ground.
Arc 2: Scene 1-Arcane Informant
Involved:
Caio, Urien, Ten, Darius, Delynn, Orion
Looking over to Darius as he was handed the umbrella, she gave him a good once over. She hadn’t seen or talked to Darius at all yet over this past… how long was it? Then again, she was a sort of… Frankenstein's monster. Giving him a smile, she smelled the distinct odor of ozone and she felt the hairs on her body begin to stand up. She glanced around once but didn’t see any obvious source for the smell and let herself relax. Looking back to Darius she smiled again “Hey, Im Delynn I uhh… work for Caio?” She said looking over at him as if seeking confirmation that's a decent explanation.
More or less yeah. Same way Dairy here works for me. Dee’s got some skill as well.
He gave a smirk leaving the implication that Darius wasn’t hanging over just waiting to see the kid get riled up enough to come at him. It would be so much easier if he just came to him. Added bonus that Ten would probably be less of a pain if whatever happened to Darius was plausibly an accident.
Moving closer to Caio and quicker than Darius could initially react with the umbrella she prodded him in the side “I thought there were going to be more ‘subjects’ for us to run into. Things seem a little dry right now aside from whatever is going on over there. Unless you want to go over there in which case its probably best for me to remain here or risk collateral.” Delynn chided out wondering what his plan was from here. Looking around she sniffed the air “Uh… I smell Ozone.” she mentioned. Looking to the puddles she plotted a course towards the smell to avoid dropping water. Coming up to the corner she was immediately greeted by a punch.
She could sense the electricity before it had even struck her, the man punching her in the gut with the taser while attempting to shock her with it at the same time. The rush of electricity was like hot nails in her mind dancing about. She had done so well staying away from sources of electricity but in the end the choice was once more made for her. Falling backwards from the impact the man made to turn the taser on again, but it wouldn’t work causing Delynn to laugh as she arched her back on the ground “Fuck I hate this.” she grumbled as she was on her feet in a second. Grabbing the man by the sides of his head she squeezed hard, her thumb pressing into his temple. Cranking the amperage on her potential Delynn returned the electrical dosage to its sender. The man dropped and Delynn immediately grabbed her own head as she fought to bring herself back under control.
MATTER OF TIME
Reveler’s interest was waning. She was growing to believe Callen was nothing more than an ordinary, if slightly eccentric, performer. And what had she the need for one like that? There was no intensity in that. A lively one sure, a strange one, and above all had no ulterior motives in befriending those Dragon girls. And sure his character was not very disagreeable by her standards. But he was shaping up to be nothing more than a pleasant afternoon pastime, none more. And here she had been expecting a worthy prey to contend for, or with.
Disregarding politeness, she slapped the illusion’s hand from her shoulder. Then, almost forcefully, Reveler fell back against the couch, lifting her face to the ceiling, speaking as if exclusively to it. “Ally... Ally, huh…? It seems so simple to declare an alliance, isn’t it? You know, stranger, my own circumstance aside, these girls here—“ she gestured vaguely at Meirin and Ruriko who both were being bothered by the man’s overly touchy illusion, then folded her hands, eyes still glued to the ceiling “—they were carefully selected by the Dragons. We have trust issues you see. And I promise you won’t find anyone in this district who would not eagerly declare themselves an ally, so your claim is rather substanceless, we can’t just trust anyone who says they are willing to help—Oh, right, perhaps—“ abruptly she lifted her head and raised a brow at Callen, “I hope you don’t think me very rude. But you don’t have certain misconceptions regarding the nature of the Dragons, don’t you? What I mean, do you perhaps think we are some sort of benevolent rulers in the dark fighting for a good cause or something? Could it be that you believe in that shit? Why do I say that? Because a good cause is nothing more than a free-for-all party. Anyone can claim it, it is so easy as to say honey words and fashion yourself with flimsy ideals and courage. Whoa, suddenly you are now a good, brave and stunning person. But actually, that is the whole point of it, isn’t it? The gist of the Dragons’ propaganda, of course. When you don the mask of hypocrisy, you essentially allow the mass an easy excuse to look away from our bad deeds and feign ignorance of your true nature. Oh, did a Dragon just kill everyone on a bridge? No problem, it must have been for a good reason, for peace, for the greater good! That kind of conscious stupidity makes our job that much easier, but also makes it that much more boring, which is the only thing I think I have issues with. Are you stupid, performer?” She paused for a chuckle, then unfold her arms and began to play with the pen in her breast pocket. “Don’t take offense, it’s nothing personal. I just have this belief that most artists are stupid, in a good way I mean. To be a good artist you must be wholly obsessed with your art, to the point of dismissing everything that isn’t directly related to your obsession. So who cares about some crimes and murders in the streets? But what I’m trying to say in between my rambling is that I think there’s a chance that you’re just plain stupid. A good chance that. Otherwise, you do realize that our business is a bit more complicated than what’s on the PR team’s agenda, right? No, now that I think about it again, you can’t be that stupid, I refuse to believe it. I have a hunch, a woman's instinct probably. You’re not that stupid. If not, then do you think I’m stupid? I don’t trust words. I advise you to mistrust my words also. I lie as easily as I kill. But here’s the thing, you don’t have to, of course, just a funny idea for you to entertain in your free time in between flirting with the girls. In gang novels, you know, you often read about a method to confirm a new recruit’s loyalty. I looked into the Phoenixes’ methods too, you know, and it’s the same idea at the core. That is, you get the recruit to kill to prove his loyalty. Pretty straightforward and old-fashioned, isn’t it? I mean, murder is still seen as the ultimate sin in our society. The act of killing another person essentially alienates you from the rest of the sheep, leaving you as an outcast with only one option left regardless: loyalty to your employer and faction. So hm, I’m not asking you to kill someone, Mr. Ally. But I’m saying I won’t trust you just yet until you have proven your friendliness in that fashion. Incidentally, my question for you: have you ever killed? No, killing in self-defense doesn’t count. That’s dull. But kill for your own gains, to further a goal, to serve an ideal, like justice, money, power, or moral values. So try to answer that. You needn’t worry, of course, the people in this booth here have done way worse, obviously.”
At this point, Reveler stopped fiddling with her pen and gave the other girls a sliver of her attention. Briefly, she was amused by the differences in their behaviors in dealing with the clones. While Ruriko was visibly uncomfortable, Meirin seemed to be enjoying it. But her attention again shifted to her current target.
“As Meirin said, we have a proper procedure for everything here. Too excessive, I believe. But that doesn’t mean we operate in the best interest of someone else other than our own. And likewise, I act in my own interest. And I trust people in my own way that may or may not have anything to do with the Dragons’ criteria. You don’t have to of course, but you'll find it much more difficult to gain my trust, perhaps partly owing to the fact that I've not had the pleasure to spend some quality time with you the way Meirin has.”
Tigers Arc 2: Scene 3 [Happily Ever After]
Shopping Mall - closed cosmetics shop, Central District
Happily Ever After
Elias’s perfectly shaped brows arched in surprise and curiosity as his own voice echoed back at him from Genevieve’s lips. Either the model was an HP, who had just revealed her potential, or she was extremely good with vocal impressions. One or the other. Regardless, Elias’s smile widened when she brazenly offered her hand as proof of her offer and quickly took it before the girl could regret her decision, activating his potential. Certainly, he’d made plenty of implications when he’d brought up the issue of trust, but he didn’t think a woman who had—likely—been informed of what he could do would allow physical contact so readily.
Seems she really doesn’t like to waste time. Excellent, Excellent.
Once more Elias found himself within a sea of memories, visuals of Genevieve’s life unfurling before him like a really, really long roll of film. Like scenes of a movie being played out before him, each scene separated in clipped segments for him to explore should he so desire. Multiple “screens” sailed past him. Multiple “windows” through which the events of Genevieve’s life were being displayed, starting with the most recent.
Biologically speaking, he was probably looking at the inner workings of the hippocampus where a human’s memories were encoded and stored. Many, many memories.
Fortunately, Elias knew what he was looking for. It helped that Genevieve seemed willing to share her memories pertaining to Alice as well.
“Recalling what you want to show me will make the process a lot quicker.”
Though, whether or not she followed his advice, Elias found what he was looking for quickly enough. There was only one memory she had pertaining to Alice…and Elias dove in.
The scene was earlier in the day, before the mall fully opened. Genevieve arrived early; Janay, Acacia, and Alice were all there together. The siblings were speaking to each other while Alice wandered around.
After that, three other faces came by at separate times.
There were two boys, totally contrasting in terms of appearance: one bright and adorned in cosmetics (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/870180647031930920/963961608869150770/unknown.png), and the other dark and scowling at almost all times (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/870180647031930920/964395248988094464/unknown.png). A young, red-eyed girl (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/870180647031930920/960079023520743444/unknown.png) locked eye contact with Genevieve for an odd amount of time.
Genevieve gathered around Acacia, who held her shoulder for a certain amount of time—they were indeed linked up. Janay left shortly after the mall opened, disappearing into the crowds. Though everyone dispersed immediately, Genevieve lingered in what appeared to be a security room with surveillance monitors all over the walls. She discretely followed Acacia to a locked room, getting a small peek inside. Inside the room, though her glance was short-lived, was enough to get a clear image. Inside was a bodybag laid on the table, half-zipped up with a short, dark-skinned HP standing beside (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/870180647031930920/966894652672323624/unknown.png). The body bag held a corpse, a motionless cold blue. The body itself was recognizable from the hair, to the face, to the clothing
... The cadaver was none other than Alicia Morel, the item of the Tigers' search.
Then the door shut behind Acacia, and Genevieve wandered out.
As Elias watched the memory, he paid special attention to the faces of the people Acacia gathered and mentally linked with, though there was really no need, since he could just make a copy of the memory and summon it up for reviewing any time he wanted. The setting. Little details. Elias made note of it all, from the security room with many monitors to “dead” body of one Alicia Morel. There was surprise when he glimpsed at the corpse within Genevieve’s memory of course, the rookie Tiger replaying the memory again and again, zooming in just to be sure, but Elias wasn’t quick to jump to conclusions. It was only a memory, after all. Just as he could alter memories, there was no saying others couldn’t…or fabricate a very realistic corpse.
The only thing that was certain was that Genevieve believed that Alice was dead…or did she?
Elias quickly skimmed through some other memories to be certain, making copies of anything he found to be relevant for further review later, before lifting her knuckles to his lips. “Thank you. That was very informative. I will keep my end of the bargain of course…but there are some things you are better off not remembering. ”
Then the deleting process began.
Elias didn’t do anything too complicated. There was no time for that…and weaving believable, fabricated memories was an art. He simply removed himself from her most recent memories, starting with their first encounter in front of the Stacy’s Department Store to their current conversation. Everything about their current conversation in fact. Once he was done, she would only remember modeling in front of the clothing store, getting a 10-minute break, speaking with ???, and walking by herself to a cosmetics shop to do ???. While he could fill in the gaps himself, it was always more fun to let the victim’s mind fill them in. “A good liar is one that doesn’t believe they are lying, a good spy is one that doesn’t know they are spy, and a traitor can’t really be held accountable for the crimes they don’t remember committing. I’m actually helping you in a way~”
Though, Elias was mainly helping himself. Whether it was bringing down Francesca Thorne or otherwise, he had no desire to get himself involved in the model’s scandals. It was better if their little exchange never ‘existed’. “If our paths should cross again, let’s make nicer memories.”
While Genevieve’s mind encoded the new memories, before she could reorient herself, Elias was already out the door with his smartphone in hand. An alert came through his mobile device, but other than a quick glimpse, Elias didn’t pay it much mind. Between the Phoenix Queen in the mall and the Serpents causing some kind of bloody ruckus near Heaven Beast Plaza, the Serpent King being spotted in Central wasn’t anything too surprising. Even gang leaders needed to get out of their coop (turf) once in a while and, frankly, Elias saw no reason to get involved. He had his own task to complete.
Swiping aside the array of jet images his frivolous mother had sent him from the Charity party, Elias used a burner app to text Genevieve Dimitri’s personal number. And his manager’s number. Whether or not she recalled what she wanted to do with it was on her. Perhaps her hatred of Thorne was strong enough for her to come up with the idea for the second time. Or, perhaps, she would turn her attention to him like she’d threatened. Elias smirked. Truthfully, it wouldn’t be too difficult to uncover the truth if she really wanted to know. Enough people had seen them interacting in front of Stacy’s. He also didn’t know the extent of Acacia’s mind link so it was a bit of an experiment as well.
Either way, Elias’s next destination had already been decided. A dead body needed to be confirmed, after all. Whether or not their search proved pointless was still to be seen, but he didn't think telling his Tiger allies that Alice might possibly be dead was a good idea...at least until he was certain. He also needed to keep his eyes peeled for the other people in the memory—the heir of the Acacia brand especially. The way she'd looked at Genevieve in the memory was a little unsettling. If all else failed, they could always try trading hostages.
Picking up his phone as it rang, Elias was greeted with Ron’s yelling. “Yes, yes, I’m on my way. The date went well, thank you for asking. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Okay. Let’s meet up at the usual spot; I’ve got things to show you. I’m also thinking that hijacking the security room might be a good idea, after all. Hm, no reason really. Just a change of heart.”
Lorrin’s slap seemed to give Red some coherency.
A distraction?
While they were able to figure out that everything that occurred Friday night was indeed not a coincidence, this at least truly confirmed it.
Which brought up a couple questions.
Would they come back for her?
Or leave her for dead?
As far as they were aware, there haven’t been any attempts made… Yet.
Right back to her insane state.
Yo clicked her tongue against her teeth.
If “Blue” was a person, the name didn’t match the reports for the three on the bridge. There was an unaccounted person that had shot up HQ.
The Queen took a step back, walking around the side of the chair, getting a better look at the girl’s face.
Yo knew Red was a Vinter. Vinter was a known name to the Queen.
Thinking on it, no doubt the Vinters were at the Charity event that her grandfather would also be at, considering he was still the “CEO” of Saiwa Industries. He offered her an invitation to join him there, but this took precedence.
Did the Vinters even know one of theirs was… well, there’s no easy way to put this, but… detained?
As Lorrin started to choke the girl, Yo spotted Kasumi’s expression.
This was no time to baby her so she’d have to learn this as they went.
Yo circled around, trailing a sharp, metallic claw down the girl’s arm as she walked by, behind Lorrin, then up the other arm. She wasn’t cutting her, but with a little bit of pressure from an HP hand, she could potentially slice into the other HP in the chair. Maybe this would have cut a normal person, but the Queen knew Red had a Potential.
She had a question of her own, “Where’s Monarch?” Yo kept her tone even, cold, emotionless.
Not wanting to overload the girl, that is where she stopped. Now to wait and see what the would spill.
THE RECRUIT
Hector would be lying if he said he wasn't feeling the pressure right now. Almost 9 years of work brought him from a scrappy outsider, desperate for his potential to be seen, to where he was today. He was respected, admired, even feared. So why isn't this guy bleeding out yet?
He could blame it on the element of surprise. Milo was expecting the fight. Hector was not. He could blame it on the audience. One was the former Ace, one of many that came before him. The other was a trusted friend, less experienced but a holder of great power. He couldn't let either down, but no, surely that wouldn't be throwing him off. It didn't matter if there was no human within a hundred mile radius, or if they were brawling in a sold-out stadium. The loudest voice in his head would always be his own, the voice he really didn't want to let down.
Though Boltius was giving it some competition.
Hector had launched himself off the car with another furious swipe. "Ha! He couldn't stop himself from expressing his glee watching the blood drip from Milo's cheek. It wasn't where he had hoped to hit, the man was too slippery, but it was blood. Finally. He felt as though it had taken him far too long to get to this point, but Hector was a fighter, a damn good one. All he had to do now was keep the momentum going.
As Milo stumbled back, Hector swiped in a big arc, hoping to catch him again. Things were starting to tilt in his favour, Hector's defense turning into offense. That was when the red-headed bug started buzzing in his ear again.
“B-... Bro, don’t kill’im! He’s got a Potential! We’ll take’im to Lyric, dawg! Shit’s valuable!”
With the slightest upward tilt of his head towards his comrades voice, it was clear to anyone observant that the spectators were more distracting than Hector would ever admit.
Don't kill him. Don't kill him. How about don't tell me what to do, huh? I'll kill whoever I want, whoever must die.
It took all of Hector's restraint not to start cursing at them all, but he didn't want to do that. Playful banter was one thing, swift sharp messages were another, but going on a profanity filled tirade was too much even for him.
"Shut up."
Potential. You know who else has potential? Hector Moses has potential. Hector Moses who's just fended off two attacks from this lunatic. I'll show you potential.
"I'll do what I want when I'm done with him."
Hector had noticed the sketchpad. Now that was interesting. Could that be it? A key to his potential? Hector couldn't confirm that, but it would make the most sense. And there's only one thing he could do with that info.
The iron blade quickly began to curl, then bend, creaking as it did so. He didn't have time to take care with it. It wasn't at its breaking point yet, but he wouldn't care if it was. He just needed to get this sorted out, no matter how much of his resources he'd have to waste.
With a hook now protruding from his arm, he slashed the notebook, to try and draw it away from Milo's reach, and/or destroy the pages. Fuck your potential. This was just after Milo had ripped one page out of it.
He heard the cacophony right before he felt the scratches on the back of his neck. He felt the scratches on his neck just before the pecking through his blazer. This was followed by the sight of a wing swooping near his face, and another blue blur as they began to swarm.
No. No more distractions.
Hector pulled the hook close to his body, hoping the sketchpad would come with it as Milo already had his pen on the paper. Then, as talons flashed across his face, he drew his own claws up with the precision of a man who's trained his potential for years.
Squawk-
The screams of the swarm quietened only slightly as one crow breathed its last breath, it's chest and face sliced open. Hector's exposed skin stung, littered with pink lines from the razor steel talons. He wasn't about to check for blood, he didn't have time to check anything.
"GIVE ME ONE REASON WHY I SHOULDN'T SLASH YOUR THROAT RIGHT HERE."
He yelled over the crows, swatting the air. Another was knocked out of the sky, and Hector could feel the crunch as his foot ran over it. He lunged at Milo with his claws and hook. He couldn't let him set off another attack, he had to stop it at the source. And if the source wasn't the sketchpad, it was Milo himself.
