Answered 'New' but not so new?

I noticed some people have a 'New' (green tab) next to their names.
When you go to look at their profiles and it says when they made their accounts.
It's not what I would call 'new' for example I saw one profile that had the green 'new' account label.
Yet they had created that account in 2016?​

i'm fairly sure the green "new" tab just means that the post is new, or the user just hasn't seen it before.
