OVERVIEW AND LORE
three centuries have passed since the conflict first made itself known. the curse was never finished before the five courts sealed the gates of the tomb and locked away the unseelies forever.

until human blood reopened them. the five courts must once again meet, working together for the first time since that night so many years ago.

basically: the five courts (humans, werewolves, seelies, vampires, and witches) have to work together to stop the unseelies. they haven't had to work together like this since that night, but still meet every two years.

seelies
the light fairies, much more behaved than their counterparts. they have a long standing history of helping those in need, but are quite bloodthirsty when it comes to enacting revenge. they are fun spirited and often play pranks on those around them. their first record goes back to 100 bc.

they have a long familial line of royalty, the king or queen always comes from the same family. some considered the family to be too corrupt, and as such the previous king and queen were locked into the tomb with the underlies. their daughter took the throne, in hopes that she would break the pattern of those before her. lest she would be put to a similar fate.

the seelies all have special abilities, determined by their type. the most powerful of the seelies are of royal blood, and the next most powerful are the members of the court. often chosen young, with the help of magic. upon reaching a certain age this breed stops aging.

since that night 300 years ago, the seelies have had several feuds with the humans, often trying to put the witches in the middle of it. nothing has come of it, and nobody's really sure what started it all. the ongoing rumor is that a seelie fell for a human and was rejected, leading to heartbreak and a violent turn of events.

powers available to seelie characters (the queen will have an extra powerset btw):

please be careful when writing these characters as they have a lot of powers and i don’t want that to get out of hand and lead the plot astray

witches
dated back even further than seelies they are the only beings who can be considered a true match for the abilities of seelies or unseelies. though, many witches are unable to fully harness their abilities, in fact only the queen or king of the witches can harness these powers. due to their magical similarities they seem to be the closest in bond to the seelies.

witches are some of the most spiritual beings you’ll ever meet, and have varying belief systems. their morality is relevant, but they are a force to be reckoned with on either side of the fence. throughout history they have always been called several terms - but even males are referred to with the same term - but are now called witches the most frequently. their court is chosen by the spirits of those who fall before them and the king/queen is chosen during a ritual that lasts for a week.

immortality is achievable for witches, through a special talisman and a spell casted by the court. it is earned, not given. it does not grant them invulnerability - only the ability to live life without dying of a natural cause.

since the night of the ritual 300 years ago the witches have avoided starting feuds, aside from one. two nights after the ritual a werewolf killed half of the court and the queen waged a war that lead to bloodshed of mass proportions, four of the five courts getting involved. the vampires were the only ones who did not involve themselves, until the bloodshed became too much to handle and they put an end to the war ten years after its beginning.

please note that only the queen/king will be able to use all of the powers on this list so pick your powers wisely throughout the rp !

werewolves
the bloodshed that coursed through their kind left a dent in their population, but they carried on regardless. a species that dates back almost as far as vampires. originated through a spell by a hopi shaman during a war that seemed to never want to end. he gifted his people by making them part wolf - although sometimes they took the form of a different animal - and shift during the full moon.

they turn others to werewolves by biting, but only in their humanoid form will the bite turn the person. a bite from their wolf form is poisonous to anyone their teeth manage to grab onto. they are powerful and terrifying in their own right. they stop aging once they are turned - or if they are born, once they transform for the first time - and can only die if they are killed.

their court is made up on the most powerful betas, who will battle for the alpha position upon the death of the alpha. werewolves not on the court are referred to as omegas and are significantly weaker than those in power. becoming alpha causes the werewolf to obtain a great deal of power, and they can gain more by killing one of their betas or an omega.

the war between the witches and the werewolves ended when the king offered his life as a sacrifice to make up for what one of the omegas did. as a sign of peace, the witches bestowed them with the ability to transform at will rather than just on the full moon. the night of the full moon is their strongest, but is almost impossible for younger wolves to handle without help from those older than them.

vampires
the first vampire came in the early part of the year 1200. they were created with a curse rained down upon a family of aristocrats after a war lead to the death of an unseelie princess. the unseelies became irate and sought revenge. they wanted power? immortality? they would have it. but not in the way they had wanted.

needless to say things were a little less than easy for them. the originals were too powerful for their own good and ended up starting yet another war, this time with the humans. banding together with a coven of witches, the humans killed all of the original vampires and attempted peace with those left in their wake. it went well enough, though many vampires lived in fear before the last king took the throne.

there was nothing to prepare them for what this king would do. he took the throne in 1757, and laid waste to a kingdom, claiming it as his own. this seemed to sate him, and peace returned - though the courts remained vigilant for the sign of anything causing him to lash out again. when he did - five years ago - he was taken out by one of the members of the human court and one of his “children” would take the throne. they hoped for peace to return to the courts with his passing. the members of the court are chosen based on skill, wisdom, and other promising aspects.

the only way to turn a human is for vampire blood to be in their system when they die. they will then resurrect as a vampire, but the process must be completed by consuming human blood. they cannot survive off of animal blood, but many drink it to sate the urges to kill when they’re short on blood. members of the court all have pieces of jewelry that allow them to walk in the sun, as do some of the common vampires - but these pieces are only able to be produced by seelies as vampires were created by unseelies. they are able to reproduce - due to a spell by the witches - and the child will age until a certain point (usually adulthood) before joining their parents in immortality.

humans
the humans have always been afraid of the supernatural and unknown, which is probably what lead to the start of the human court. a way to include the humans in the goings on, without revealing too much to those who don’t need to know. with the help of all of the supernatural breeds they have become well equipped for the battles they would face.

immortality is only achievable through turning into a wolf or vampire for humans, however the members of the court have rings that prevent them from being killed by supernatural beings. they also have extensive knowledge on everything that can harm or kill supernatural beings. surprisingly enough, humans can hold their own even with witches in most ways.

the court is made up of descendants of the original court. only on occasion are other families added to the court. most humans believe that all of the legends are just legends, despite them being so much more than that. it is a struggle to keep the secret, but in the long run it’s for the best. the leader of the court is usually chosen by a vote, and they stay the leader until the end of their life.

they have been involved in many feuds - namely with the seelies - but have generally tried to keep things peaceful. humans know they aren’t capable of a full on war with any of the breeds, they’d be eradicated too quickly if they tried it.

in place of powers/abilities the characters will have weapons and other things capable of harming/killing/slowing down supernatural beings.

unseelies
if you thought maleficent was an evil fae, you’re unprepared for the unseelies. generally thought of as ruthless, this is a species you wouldn’t want to meet at the end of a dark alley. they came to be at the same time as their counterparts. the same magic that brought the seelies to life produced the unseelies. when the spell was laid upon the people of the land, those with dark hearts became darker, and those with light hearts became lighter.

the dark hearted beings slowly gained their power and began what would go down in history as the fastest trip into evil. they had the same abilities as their counterparts, but found themselves using them for evil rather than for good. they were conquerors. villains. they had a bad habit of doing bad things.

this lead to the human hunters attempting a genocide of the species. the war raged from the year 500 until 1700. it was bloody. it was violent. lives were lost on all sides of the field. there was no discrimination over which species was killed along the way.

and that’s when the curse came along, thanks to the help of a witch who would lose her life for what she did. it took them another 200 years after the witch bled to death to fully prepare for their revenge. it would come in the form of a powerful spell that would render all supernatural beings under their control. they planned to eliminate the human population and take control of the world. the summer solstice of the year 1717 was the day in which it would happen.

the courts had long since been established and readied for such an occurrence, but the unseelies were prepared for this situation, and had a backup plan. human blood spilled upon the tomb would reawaken their spirits, and so they lay in wait for the next 300 years. until it finally came to pass. the human was just collateral.

it was their time.

courts
the courts were created in the year 700, in an attempt to help end the unseelie war. the five species with the largest populations banded together in an attempt to bring a sort of peace. it worked for all species but the unseelies.

they live by the code “we hunt those who hunt us.” this code is sacred, and prevents them from entering an unneeded war. they are only permitted to kill those beings - human, vampire, witch, etc. - that have given reason for it.

the humans are often referred to as hunters, but they are more or less just called that as a reference to their history. the witches tend to be the leaders of the courts, due to their powers. vampires were reluctant members for some time due to their last king, but have since changed their tone. the werewolves are very much thrilled to be a part of the courts, and treat it with a great honor. the seelies have been the most benevolent of members for ages, but still hold some bitterness towards the humans.

if a human is turned to a wolf or vampire while on the court, they will be removed from the human court. as a sign of good gesture they are often offered a way to continue to help, but don’t always end up on the court of the species they become.

LOCATIONS
each supernatural court has a location distinct to their species. however, humans typically do not have a set location - though many tend to live in starcrest.

starcrest - x
the town in which the courts meet. this town has a long history of magical occurrences, and is home to the tomb in which the unseelies are sealed in.

castle eidutho - x
home of the seelie court. located in northern maine, all seelies in the court live here.

canadian rockies - x
this is where the werewolf court meets for the full moon. they are to arrive 2 days before and leave 2 days after. younger werewolves are encouraged to join them for the sake of helping with the moon's affects.

castle viscmon - x
this is where the vampire court lives. they are free to come and go as they please, so long as they are present for the important things.

new salem - x
a town created and enchanted to be hidden from those with ill intent, it is located in massachusetts not far from where the original salem is.

ITEMS
wooden stakes: wood is one of the few things that can bring pain to a vampire. these stakes can kill them.

wolfsbane: a werewolf’s truest weakness. while silver doesn’t actually hurt them, wolfsbane does. it’s poisonous to wolves and can kill them in extremely high doses. it most often causes burns, difficulty breathing, and eventually loss of consciousness.

mistletoe: a healing agent that many witches use to help heal supernatural injuries.

poison ivy: the only thing that can truly affect a seelie. this plant renders them magicless for several hours.

vervain: wolfsbane for vampires, basically.

mountain ash: this can prevent most - but not all - supernatural species from entering or exiting an area. excludes: seelies and witches (amongst others not involved in the roleplay)

moonstone: deadly to werewolves in more than one way. if used as a weapon it can kill them quicker than anything else. if put into a room full of it they become a victim to the extreme emotions of the full moon, regardless of the phase of the moon.

wooden bullets: specially made for shooting vampires, they likely won’t kill a vampire but will cause them a great deal of pain.

daylight rings: made by witches, allow the vampires to walk during the day.

eternity jewels: allow witches to live forever (not safe from injury by a human tho).

protection rings: some human court members have these, they prevent them from dying by supernatural cause if they're being worn.

transport charms: allow the court members to teleport between given locations at will. they can only transport between their own home and the main locations of the court.
