VANESSA OLSON
"Thank you," she said as kindly as she could muster, ignoring the pounding in her chest. She was already regretting the decision to talk to him. What would she get out of it? Sure, Flynn was naïve and forgiving and could possibly be her friend again, but Theo and Avery would eventually find out about it and make her life even more hellish than they already did. She shook her head as if to shake away the thoughts and glanced towards Flynn, who was fumbling with the wheels of his skateboard. At least he's nervous too, she thought before remembering that he actually had pretty valid reasoning. Surely meeting with her, the one who ended their relationship to begin with, wasn't a comfortable situation for him. She deserved much more than just being nervous, that she knew.

She winced when he asked the question and turned her head in embarrassment. She had a feeling he'd ask it of course, it was a fair question, but she hadn't exactly been prepared to give an answer. Besides, she knew Flynn well enough to know he wouldn't be satisfied with the real answer. He probably blamed himself; thought he had done something to earn it. She could confess then and there that he just no longer fit the image she wanted and that she cared more about popularity than him and he would probably assume she was making something up make him feel better. Besides, she didn't want him to know the truth. She was a nice person. She wanted a chance to have her old friends back and the truth would just keep them away.

"I..." She paused, the words hanging in the air as she thought about an answer that would satisfy him. "I don't know why I did it," she eventually said, avoiding looking at Flynn at all costs. It wasn't far from the truth, after all. She knew the reasoning behind her choice but she didn't know the why - why she, who truly loved both Flynn and Avery at the time, decided to fuck them both over on a split second decision for the sake of popularity. She sighed, leaning forward until her head was in her hands, fingers raked into her hair. "I'm sorry," she admitted and, by that point, she was crying half because she really was sorry and half because she hoped her emotional duress would be enough for him to drop it. She wished they could go back in time to before things were awkward just so she could avoid this very moment.

"Just... don't blame yourself, okay? It wasn't because of anything you did.. or didn't do." She sniffed and wiped her eyes on the sleeve of the pale pink cardigan she wore and sat up so she was finally looking at him. Crappy apology aside, she really did mean that much. Flynn had always been nice to her - too nice even because she was positive Avery wouldn't have listened to her. The last thing he deserved was to be off thinking he'd done something to make her do that to him. You know, as if he hadn't been doing that for the past year.
