howdy!

hi! i have many names but i go by neptune here usually, and i'm a nonbinary/masc individual, i go by they/them pronouns on here primarily and i have been constantly struggling trying to keep up with rps due to a lack of focus but i'm hoping that throwing myself into the community somewhere that it will be easier, because it is something i really enjoy when i eventually get into it (especially group roleplays). so, i decided to make a more formal character storage location so i can keep track of characters i make for specific RPs or ocs i'm willing to use across the board (especially ones I created and then didn't get accepted or the roleplay died but I want to use lol).

most of the codes used here are borrowed from the bbc code center on here, I am not quite confident enough to make my own codes (i wouldn't know where to start), so if you like them check out the credits. i do hope to someday have some codes on my own, but for now that's what i have lol.

  Lis has a small frame and is pretty short – he’s always been smaller than his peers and has a hard time coping with that, leading to him wearing a lot of platform shoes to give him a subtle boost of height, even if it’s not a lot. He used to have a very clean look with longer curly hair and no piercings or anything, he barely wore jewelry or anything. But, going through a period of rebellion, he shaved his hair pretty short and dresses a little more freely. He paints his nails black and wears a lot of comfy but well put together outfits. He also got his tongue and ears pierced right before school started, a subtle piercing he could hide while still feeling rebellious.
  
  He wears a lot of sweaters and jeans outfits because they are comfy and he gets sensory issues. He usually prioritizes comfort in his selection of outfits but will also never wear anything that is too frumpy or plain, as having a put together look was hammered into his head so much growing up. That being said, he has a lot of soft sweaters that he cycles through pretty regularly when he needs something that has a non-abrasive non-irritating fabric. He wears a lot of blues and greens.

  Lis didn’t grow up with much comfort, having to learn to self-soothe and console after his brother was taken from him, so he doesn’t have much patience for others’ emotions, unable to share his own even if he desperately needs help from others. This leads him to having struggles connecting with others even though he really does want friends. He also finds solace in being alone, managing to fill his time up doing his own things, forgetting his loneliness until he sees others having a good time without him.
  
  That being said, he had friends for much of his Castelobruxo experience, they were just very vapid and surface level. However, they threw great parties, which were great for him to unwind, and he would participate quite often, so he knows a little bit about throwing parties and partying. He’s actually pretty fun at parties, unwinding and losing a bit of his tenseness, making him a bit easier to talk to about nothing and everything.
  
  When he’s not partying, he’s kind of matter-of fact and blunt, always letting you know if you are wrong about something, especially if it’s something he knows particularly well. He isn’t good at filtering his thoughts, but he is often too anxious to speak in the first place, so you will either get a very quiet Lis or one who doesn’t know how to shut up (and often says things that aren’t necessarily the “right things”). That being said, he is a very good chameleon if he must interact with you, even if he doesn’t want to, due to years of going to socialite parties and interacting with people of notoriety. A lot of his silence is due to not knowing the socially accepted response and being forced to play in between the lines a lot of his life.
  
  Recently, his life kind of turned upside down so he’s been a little more rebellious and more open to breaking the rules, whereas before he was very much a stickler for the rules. Still, sometimes he is swallowed up in his old ways and is a very by-the-rules person, imposing those rules on others and not letting others oppose the authority of things, believing it to be the right thing, even if he does not agree with it.

  Backstory:
  
  Lis grew up in a very affluential wizarding family with very high expectations of him. His father, Félix, was a famous duelist turned auror who eventually became head of the aurors’ office in Columbia, where Lis grew up. His mother, Maristela, was a journalist and socialite who managed to quickly climb the social ladder early in life and met Félix through an interview with him for her paper. That interview turned into a dinner, and a conversation that continued through the night. Both of them were practical and understood their places in the social ladder and chose to team up to continue each other’s upward motions.
  
  While they loved each other, they both had lost their way as time went on, concerned with their image (and by extension, eventually, their children’s images) more than the home that they had once envisioned for their children. All of the Valencia children were expected to be high achieving and social from a young age, always attending social events and meeting other affluential people’s children, doing a song and dance of pretending to like each other when often their only connection was rich parents.
  
  Lis and his older brother, Néstor, were about two years apart in age and were very close when they were growing up. Lis was a small child and had a lot of anxieties, he wasn’t very good socially and he was sick much of the time, but with Néstor by his side it wasn’t so bad. Néstor would often talk where he couldn’t and would hold his hand when he was scared. Even when Néstor began to get older and not really show any inclination of magic, he stood strong by Lis’s side and never wavered. Until the years passed and passed and even Lis had started to accidentally make things fly or half transfigure things into something else, while Néstor had not so much as half produced something magical. Even before he was supposed to receive a letter confirming his acceptance into school, his parents had assumed that he wouldn’t have ended up a magical being and decided to send him away, a tarnish on their reputation, to live with Maristela’s similarly exiled squib brother in America. Lis hasn’t seen him since.
  
  After Néstor’s exile, his parents treated Lis as their oldest, thrusting him into the pressure of the eldest sibling to live up to all of their hopes and dreams – a pressure that Lis was not prepared for, 8 years old and suddenly without a person who’d become his rock. His mental health quickly declined, being forced into these social events his parents attended without his shield, expected to be able to talk to others smoothly and always know what to say.
  
  To his siblings, Lis really was the oldest because they were too young when Néstor was sent away to remember him at all, which meant that as Lis grew up he quickly had to stop mourning his personal loss of his brother and step into the role of oldest sibling. As he reached his teenage years and had to go to even more important social gatherings with his parents, he began to learn how to at least pretend he was good at them and if he said something weird or dumb would smooth it over only to agonize about it later. His fears, too, were quickly shoved to the backburner as he tried to live up to his parents’ expectations of a socially suave and talented eldest son.
  
  When he began attending Castelobruxo, he immediately tried to get with the ‘in’ crowd in any way possible so that it wouldn’t be harder later on, because he knew that his parents would know everything about his time there, having been friends with many of the teachers and parents of the other students for quite some time, and that they would want him to make a name for himself. However, this also meant that he participating in some nasty treatment of other students on occasion, just falling into the rudeness and toxicity of the other “popular” kids and mirroring their behaviors, whatever it took to be accepted for once and maybe be enough for his parents.
  
  In his private time, however, he was just an artist and a lover of herbology who wanted to be left alone and didn’t want to have to climb these stupid and ridiculous obstacles to be accepted – he didn’t even agree with the heights he was trying to reach to, his goals weren’t really his. His parents wanted him to be an auror, but he wanted to be an herbologist or perhaps a healer. However, his professors being friends with his parents caused them to kind of push him along the auror route and they would send him extracurricular materials on becoming one (which promptly got shoved into a trunk and never looked at). He had basically given up on being anything he wanted that wasn’t prescribed by his parents lest he faced the same fate as his brother Néstor.
  
  However, the summer before his 6th year of school, his world turned upside down. He received a letter from his brother Néstor while his parents were out of the country on a business trip. While they had received letters from Néstor occasionally (mostly holidays or birthdays, basic stuff, just a reminder that he existed), it was never quite like this. This letter had had a tone of almost… defeat, detailing to Lis how Néstor had been writing him for years but he didn’t know if Lis just didn’t want to talk to him or what, but he would keep writing these letters until he got a response, and talking about his life in America with their uncle, and how he was doing okay. But Lis had never received a letter like this before, so while his parents were still gone, he dug through his father’s study to see if there were any more. He’d found eight years of letters addressed to him, correspondence about Néstor’s eight years away from his brother and a lot of Néstor’s isolation, not having his brother with him.
  
  This crushed Lis, and he sat on it for much of the summer until he confronted his parents about it, causing a huge blowup right before he returned to school for his sixth year, leading him to be rebellious until school started and for the beginning of it, rejecting all his old friends in his friend group as he’d decided he wasn’t interested in falling into his parents messed up expectations or respecting their wishes.
  
  At least, until his name was pulled from the Goblet of Fire. A name he hadn’t entered, but wouldn’t dare dispute, because he knew it was the doing of his parents and there wouldn’t be a real way out of it anyway. However, he determined if he was going to be forced into this that he’d do it his own way for once.

  Dakota’s stance on life is to be aggressively positive. She wants to include everyone that she can and goes out of her way to friend those who seem like outsiders. She is a typically very bubbly and friendly person, though she can get loud sometimes when she gets excited. Mostly, she is kindhearted and warm to those around her.
  
  She is also rebellious, not always wanting to follow the rules if she thinks they go against her “aggressively positive” mantra.   Dakota’s super early years were fairly normal. Her parents were in love and had their two kids, a dog and a white picket fence. She had a healthy relationship with both of her parents, and they went on family outings regularly, a big vacation to the beach. Things were going well until she was about 7 and her sister was 11 and received a letter from Hogwarts announcing her magic. This was news to Dakota’s mother Penelope, who was kind of hit out of nowhere about it and struggled with accepting the fact that it took 11+ years for Ezra to let her know this fact about himself. They struggled for about a year before they separated, not only due to Ezra’s dishonesty by omission.
  
  When Dakota was 8, her parents officially separated and she began travelling between their houses every week while her sister was off at wizard school, left alone to deal with her parents being tense with one another (even though they tried to not be while Dakota was around). Her mother had met a French woman working at a local blacksmith named Abilene Lachance and fell in love and they began dating around the time Dakota was 10. She struggled with feeling very different from her peers, not only because she knew she was this magical creature and most of her classmates statistically were probably not, but because she had a hard time focusing in class and controlling her volume and her personality and the other kids thought she was kind of weird.
  
  Luckily, that period in her life didn’t last a very long time, because at 11 she received her Hogwarts letter and found a new place to call home. She found a group of friends who accepted her (primarily made of Hufflepuffs and Slytherins, with one or two Ravenclaws in the mix). They were the equivalent of punks in the magical scene on Hogwarts grounds, not falling into their sneaky ways until their second year of Hogwarts (they were too in awe the first year to stir up trouble). They would sneak out at night and just hang out on the Quidditch pitch, not really doing much other than talk shit about their peers and play some of their made-up games and plan harmless pranks on the student body.
  
  Mabel Warren was one of her friends in the group, a Slytherin and Chaser for the Slytherin Quidditch team. They were jokingly rivals on the Quidditch pitch but almost inseparable off of it. They weren’t really the ringleaders of the group, but they had been the first two to meet and organize it, each recruiting their friends from their houses to hang out every Friday night. One night, Dakota confessed that she had a crush on her and they began dating for a bit, Dakota falling totally head over heels for her while Mabel strung her along because she thought her crush was cute and she’d liked her back at first. But eventually, Mabel started to get annoyed with Dakota, her loudness and her desire for positive attention from her friends and began to comment on it, how Dakota should be a little quieter and deal with her problems on her own. When they broke up, it didn’t make the group fall apart or really change the dynamics at all, other than Dakota was really hurt for a long time about it. Luckily, Dakota had managed to swallow her feelings down this once and nobody had tried to pick sides between them. At least, that’s what Dakota thought at first until Mabel slowly started to pull away, along with some of the group until Dakota was left with a little less than half of their friends, losing some of her closest friends and sending her into a spiral.
  
  A summer passed and she got over it, deciding to double down on taking up space and being herself, not allowing Mabel’s comments made during their relationship get to her. She decided to just try and bring more people into her little group and make people feel welcome into it. She started doing little positivity graffiti projects on Hogwarts grounds, ones that were easy to remove by magical means, along with protesting some of the injustice she saw on campus.
  
  She decided to throw her name into the Goblet so that Hogwarts could have a positive representative, but she figures being a second is just as good.

  Kaz has long shaggy hair that he sometimes puts into a little ponytail or bun, though usually in the classroom he has it styled or slicked back a little. Around school sometimes it will be pulled back, especially if they are doing a more hands-on project or if he’s just at school casually outside of that classroom (especially at games). He also usually has facial hair of some kind, though the amount differs depending mostly on his mental health and time. Typically, it’s just a little bit of well-kept stubble, but sometimes it grows in thicker. While he has tattoos, they are primarily covered up by his clothing and he tries to keep a professional look by not showing them to his students. That being said, he usually wears long-sleeves.
  
  His style could be described as dark academia, full of button ups and sweaters and neutral earthy tones, with a little bit of green and red thrown in sometimes. His style is a little edgier, usually with a leather jacket or a funky accessory (typically just a holiday themed tie) thrown in the mix. He values professionalism in his look more than anything.   Personality:
  Kaz is often very melancholic, keeping to himself and his own hobbies. He has a lot of baggage that he isn’t quite ready to unpack for anyone else, so he is very private about his past, unintentionally creating a bit of a mystery behind him. However, this doesn’t mean that he isn’t involved in on-campus activities. In fact, he is often seen around campus supporting his students’ different activities, providing tutoring sessions outside of class time and going to their Quidditch games. He cares very deeply about his students and it shows. He’s the kind of professor where you go to their classroom during lunch and hang out instead of the cafeteria, and many students actually often do. His classroom is very much a safe space for many of the Koldovstoretz outsider students and he does what he can for them.
  
  When not involved with his students, he’s pretty quiet and not super involved with the other professors. He has a bit of imposter syndrome, not entirely confident in his teaching ability or at least, not confident that he’s better than anyone else that could be in his position. When someone engages him, however, he’s fairly chatty and is always interested in listening to a story about someone else’s life and try to make them feel included. His presence is very warm and inviting, even when he’s not feeling his best. He always tries to uplift others and make them feel like they are important.

  Kaz’s parents met when they were fairly young. His father, Zakhar, was 20 and his mother, Radomira, was 18 and freshly graduated. Their love story was a bit of a whirlwind, moving quickly and never quite sure of where it was going to go, without much planning on how they were going to get there. Due to this lack of planning, Kazimir came out of wedlock, forcing them to get married to cover up their sins and driving a bit of a wedge between the two, especially as Radomira let Zakhar into her world and told him about being a witch. While Zakhar was perhaps not the kindest person in the first place, his behavior went south very quickly in the beginning of the marriage, turning to alcoholism and having a negative opinion of just about everything that Radomira did.
  
  Radomira took it in stride, gracefully and did not take most of the things Zakhar said to heart (on the surface anyway – being told something over and over, eventually you will start to believe at least a little bit of it). She stepped into the role of a mother and never looked back, always providing Kaz with what she could and with the most important thing she had – love. This didn’t mean that Zakhar’s actions did not also affect Kaz, because as he grew, it seemed like nothing he could ever do would be enough for his father, while his father’s alcoholism continued to grow worse and worse. By the time Kaz was eight, his father’s damage had been done – both to himself and to Kaz. The man had driven himself to an early grave via alcohol poisoning and left Kaz with a fear of becoming just like him.
  
  While Kaz was then free of his father, he feared his 11th birthday and receiving a letter he knew would change his life. His father always loomed the possibility of him being like his mother over his head, of him being magical and how terrible that was, amongst other things. But then Kaz got his letter and his mother was excited for him and so he went, and he discovered that the Wizarding World was actually a wonderful place, and though his trauma over his father still stayed, he grew up and coped with it a little better.
  
  When Kaz graduated, he wasn’t sure where he was going in his life. He didn’t know yet quite what he wanted to be, other than that he wanted to be an author of some type or work in academia. In the meantime to support himself, he began working at a shop that ended up being where he met Sveta Brankovich. They courted for a while before eventually marrying and moving in together while Kaz wrote his book. Soon, they would have a child, and everything would seem to be going great for a few years until their daughter, Eleonora developed leukemia and though they tried their hardest, no muggle or wizarding cure would help her, and they tragically lost her. This caused their marriage to quickly fall apart due to how they each separately handled the time their daughter was sick and the grieving process, Kaz stuck in the past and mourning and Sveta trying desperately to finally leave her grieving behind, process it and move on.
  
  Kaz in the meantime had been working on his academics before his daughter had passed, and now without a home or a family anymore, decided to put his energy into teaching instead. He’s been working at Koldovstoretz for a few years so his grief isn’t fresh, but it still lingers with him these days on occasions, late nights where he analyzes his mistakes.     It is always an interesting time around El. She keeps the conversation going and always has a new topic or joke to throw out to make others feel good. She's always lifting up those around her -- and if she notices someone being left out, she will do her best to include them or talk to them.     overbearing - Sometimes, her loud and outgoing personality can become overbearing for those around her, especially those who are typically quiet. She doesn't know how to hold back and can be seen as rude sometimes, though she just wants to keep the conversation going, she often domineers them and inadvertently takes the reins and steers the conversation to what she wants to talk about.
    
    detached - While she is usually very friendly and outgoing, she doesn't always share her own emotions about things that happen unless she trusts you. She can seem very detached from certain situations or "real" life in that way, not sharing her innermost thoughts and instead diverting the attention from herself when it really matters.

    Born in Toulouse, France to a French-Korean mother and Korean father, she grew up in an extremely loving family. With three brothers and a cousin close enough to call a sister, she was never alone or left in a moment of boredom. With a childhood full of games and sports, it's no wonder she grew to become extremely competitive. She was the second child of the family, but still always overshadowed by her brothers, as her dad primarily wanted sons. Though she was loved, there was always an air of disappointment in her, which caused her to overcompensate her whole life (thus playing multiple sports, learning several languages, going to dance classes, and meticulous planning of her future in business).
    
    Not necessarily popular growing up, she was always part of the jock crowd and thus was around popular people much of her life. It gave her a distaste for vanity and popularity counting, but also gave her an addiction to attention. She loves drawing attention to herself, which was a primary reason for her becoming obsessed with humor and telling jokes to others, figuring out the best way to make people laugh. It was a good way to both gain the attention she desired and uplift those around her.
    

    
    
    
    

    Her mother was a Korean/French teacher and her father a bestselling writer, there were high expectations of her as she became an adult. She always showed promise in her art and especially her eye for design, as well as in the dance classes she'd taken since she was a kid. But her parents didn't want that for her, they wanted her to become something stable like an accountant or a manager. She didn't know what she wanted, but she knew it wasn't a 9-5 job or a desk job of any kind. She knew that she belonged somewhere creative.
    
    Just before high school, her family moved to the U.S. because her mom got the opportunity to teach French there and her father got an offer from a college to originate a writing course there (this somewhat crushed her and her cousin, Sophie, but they remained close and still call each other every day). She also began to dance at a new studio there. Throughout high school (but especially in her last two years) she got inspired with dance due to an instructor who encouraged her. She was finally taking dance seriously after so long (before it was just a somewhat begrudging supplement to her sports and now, she was looking forward to it every day). She started to go to competitions and absolutely crush the competition. She threw herself into it, and ended up deciding to pursue dance further. The shock that this gave her parents drove a wedge into their relationship with her, especially her mom. • personality:
  Em isn't the most socially graceful person, they can be crass and swear and get a little loud. When they get excited, they get very animated and don't hide their reactions. This can be a mixed bag, especially if their reaction is negative or angry, as they feel and show their emotions in a big way. They have a bit of an anger problem that they try to hide when it is towards they love but is explosive towards anyone else and has gotten them into a few scrapes throughout their life. They are very against conforming and those that do excessively kind of annoy them, though they can understand the desire to fly under the radar (as someone who has never been able to, it is an alluring concept).
  
  To Em, the most radical thing is kindness. They unapologetically love others who people might not see the beauty of. There are exceptions to that, of course, if you are cruel to others or do something hateful to those that they love. Despite how jaded they could be with the outcome of their life, they try to make the space around them an inviting one. At first glance, Em seems intimidating and distant, but they will go out of their way to make your day better or to help you if you need it.
  
  However, Em also has huge mood swings and can be good for a while before having an extreme negative dip and send themselves into a spiral of negative thinking and self loathing. While love and accepting themselves is kind of the core of their outlook, it isn't as easy as it seems all the time, especially when they are constantly struggling with just existing and having somewhere safe to go. Also, traveling alone for so long kind of did a toll on their mental health. They met people but they haven't had a constant in a while. This has caused them to have some unhealthy coping mechanisms.
  
  history:
  Em's father died when they were about 2, leaving their single mother to raise them and their 6 year old sister on her own. While there were struggles, their life was full of love and they never wanted for the necessities. They didn't always get the extra things most children did, but toys on birthdays and clothes for Christmas were enough for them. Their mother was big on holidays, even when the money was tight, and a big to-do was always made about them within their means (this means holiday themed music, decorations that were often reused year to year, and thematically appropriate food when they could), leaving Em with an affinity for them.
  
  They weren't particularly popular in school, and often blended into the shadows, but they collected a group of other misfits as the years passed by. They would all hang out at the skate park or go urban exploring after school and eventually, one by one, all got into the punk scene and learned to give each other piercings, stick n' poke tattoos, and to cut each other's hair and diy clothes. It became a pastime for them to change up their appearance when they got bored and Em was especially good at this, dying their hair every couple of months and getting multiple diy piercings and tattoos, often letting their friends use them to practice on. This lead to Em exploring their gender presentation a little more and discovering that maybe they didn't align with a gender at all and were somewhere in between. They came out to their friends and, while it was new to them, they received a lot of support.
  
  During this same time, Em's mom had gotten back into dating and was preparing to marry her boyfriend of a couple of years, Steve. Steve moved in around the same time Em's sister, Clementine, was leaving for college, so a huge shift happened in the dynamics of the house and the love that was once there grew very faint. Steve wasn't terrible to their mother, but he quickly became very restrictive and demanding and negative towards Em for their anti-conformity. A couple of years passed as a wedge (named Steve) was put between Em and their mother and they started to grow further apart, leaving Em with a growing desire to come out to their mother but a suffocating feeling of not knowing the outcome and damaging their already strained relationship in any way.
  
  But this didn't stop Em from experimenting with their presentation with wearing all kinds of clothing, spikey punk vests and skirts and ripped jeans and everything in between. When Steve caught wind of Em wearing skirts in public and to school, he confronted them and told them in very clear terms that they would either stop that behavior immediately or they would get out from under his roof. That night, Em packed a bag and went to one of their friends' houses to crash on their couch before deciding that there was no point in finishing school under their current circumstances and if they were going to be homeless it would be on their terms, so they've been train hopping on and off since (a little over half a year). They very much regret leaving without telling their mom goodbye or anything.

She's also pretty strong, especially in her upper arms, as she has played on the softball team most of her life. Mo is kind of begrudgingly the mom friend, falling into the role on accident due to being very organized and over prepared, always making sure her friends made it to places on time if they told her about them and having random but necessary things packed into her bags at all times (you will never catch her without a first aid kit). Despite being organized, she considers herself a free spirit and kind of a hippie, as she likes not having the confines of the world or school or responsibility when she can help it. She also believes in and loves nature and getting dirty, "bringing her closer to her roots" as she says. She is very loving to her friends and always tries to support them, but she will be blunt with them when she finds their antics ridiculous or bad for them. She won't shy away from chastising her friends, but does not really want to be put in the position of being the most responsible or most level headed in the room, as her level-headedness is quite questionable. She is very stubborn and would prefer things to go her way, but tries to compromise when she can because sometimes arguing with her friends can be like wrestling a toddler, frustrating and exhausting with no favorable end. She will also fiercely protect her friends, either emotionally or physically if she has to. She is always taking people under her wing and helping them feel included.

Brief Background
Growing up, she essentially helped raise her 3 younger siblings, which is probably why she stepped into the mom friend role so easily and without meaning to. Being the oldest of her siblings and one of the oldest of her friend group has caused her to pull people under her wing, and that used to be something that she was proud of growing up, but at some point she turned around and realized she didn't have much else going for her, so she decided to pull away from the role a little bit (without much success). This has caused her to make her friends make their own decisions and fix their own problems more as they get older, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't care for them. She has always tried to see her friends' sides of any story, and has never been very good at fixing inner-group conflicts, loving all of her friends and not wanting to side with anyone.

Her parents have demanded a lot of her growing up, expecting her to have good grades and a good social life despite also having to help take care of her siblings, which is probably why she is as organized as she is, and is also probably why as she gets older she practices small acts of rebellion against them, including running off to go adventuring with her friends for a week without their approval.

Hand to Hand Combat: While not super skilled at any ranged combat, she can hold her own in a basic hand to hand combat, at least enough to get away. She is small and, while not particularly dexterous, knows where to shift her weight to take someone much larger down. Her brother taught her this after their mom died because she is small, and he wanted her to be able to take care of herself.

personality:
a plucky, optimistic person, Delph is always trying to bring those around her up. she isn't always the best at it, due to not being super familiar with social cues or how to follow them, but she does her best. she doesn't pick up on some people's sarcasm very well and can't tell when or if she is being manipulated. however, she has a very strong personality and is kind of stubborn when it comes down to it. she has spent a lot of her life doing what other people wanted her to do, and she isn't particularly interested in doing that anymore, and just kind of wants to get out of her bubble and see the galaxy. she also understands that to do that, she has to make some sacrifices and put the work in.

biography:
Her mom was a human and her dad was a half humanoid half bug-like alien called Scix. They met when they were young and had a whirlwind romance that ended up with Del and her older brother, Arlo. When Delph was a very young age, their father left to go find work and never returned. As time when on, she suspected that maybe her dad just left and her mother told the kids that he left for work to spare their feelings. Either way, it made their childhood harder. Their mom had to work hard in the local factory to raise them, and as time went on and they got big enough the kids started to help her out there when they could. This lead to the accident when Delph was 11 that caused them to lose their leg and get some scarring on their hands and face. They got trapped under a machine that caught fire and were rescued before anything worse could happen, so they're grateful that they survived at least. Still, their life was a little difficult after that as her mother could not really afford a prosthetic for her for a long time and they had to learn to cope with the world around them while not being able to walk like the others. This means a lot of her early years were spent on crutches.

They coped well though and while they couldn't help in their usual ways, they learned to support the community and to be a helper and a healer. They ended up babysitting the kids for the factory workers and taking on a lot more responsibility in that way. Her mom worked very hard and got her a rudimentary prosthetic when she was 14 that helped her get around a little better and help a little more and everything seemed to be going well for the most part. However, at 16, the factory was attacked by some vandals and a few people were unfortunately caught in their crossfire, including Delph's mom, who died shortly thereafter, leaving Delph and Arlo to fend for themselves. Arlo was 20 and was working in the factory, so mostly what changed was that Arlo and Delph became closer than ever and struggled a little bit more.

A few years later, Arlo became sick and Delph had to take care of him. When she was 20, he passed away and she decided to get out of that town as quickly as possible, so that she did not fall to the same fate as the rest of her family, leading her to the Reliables.

Her mother worked long days at the seaport, hauling cargo on and off of ships. She was a strong woman, emotionally and physically, but the hard work took a toll on her over the years and Natasja could tell, even at a really young age. Her father spent late nights sculpting after working his days at one of the restaurants in the entertainment district, but even that wasn't enough to pull his family out of the slums. He died when Natasja was 12, leaving her and her mother to fend for themselves.
  
  Natasja soon joined her mother at the seaport, doing what she could until she was strong enough to do more. As she reached her later teens, she began to take part in an underground fighting ring in the slums where she could make some cash as she won fights. It taught her how to fight and what kinds of people there were in the world. It also taught her how to think quickly on her feet, as, being a girl or woman in these fights, you couldn't always win on your brawn alone. She had to learn to outsmart her opponents and be more nimble and quicker than them. So she did, and she did it well for a long time, helping her to support her mom a little in a way she couldn't before. It was still chump change, but it was sometimes better than what one could earn from one day of the seaport's wages.
  
  But then Natasja got into a whirlwind relationship with a higher class man who ran in the fighting circles, leaving her with a child and, eventually, with no way to work for months. After she had her son, she didn't see any more of the man (she barely even knew who he was, if the information he'd given her was even true, or he just took advantage of a younger and more naïve woman by lying to her) and was left to raise her son with just her and her mother.
  
  She returned to the fighting circles for a few years, but as her son grew older and could pay attention to his mother and started noticing her coming home with bruises and such, decided to quit the street fighting life. She knew that working at the seaport wouldn't give her son the best life either and would give him the same childhood she'd had, perpetually in the slums and never improving his status. She didn't want that for him, and she wanted her life to have some kind of purpose that it had never had before, so when she saw the postings for a job at Apex she knew she had to take the opportunity. It was her best chance to give her son the life she's always wanted and her mother the life she'd never had.

If they are going through a rocky phase in their relationship or Natasja's focus is off, it is very difficult to invoke and can be near impossible on very bad days. Either way, it often leaves Natasja with a headache after the battle.
  
  She also can give Natasja a bit of her foxlike speed and hearing during battle or a particularly sneaky mission.
