It has been the world's foremost school in the arcane arts where any aspiring sorcerer can learn the craft and push their limits. The school itself exist outside of our plane of existence so as to avoid it being found by those who know nothing about magic. Getting to the academy though is fairly simple. As long as you have been admitted into the academy all they have to do is have the intent for getting to the school and like magic they will be standing at the gates of the school. The Templar Order of St. John
b427f683a110182e17de923ea768b112.png
This order of templars live with the sole purpose of killing all spellcasters and magical creatures with no mercy. They believe that all things magical are evil and must be eradicated from the world. Even though they are normal people they due pose a threat to the magical community since they are trained to fight against magic. Even there weapons are especially made to kill someone or something that has magic. But like the magical world they operate in silence as to not make the world known to their secret war. Most members of this order have worked their way up in every government in the world so as to prevent any magic users from gaining control of the people.

Even though they do pose a threat it is still pretty uncommon for anyone to be killed in the modern day by them. This is due to a spell that a group of 12 master wizards cast on the world so that all mages would not know, understand, or use magic until they reach adult age. By then most are able to keep themselves safe since they had lived a normal life up until that point.

The History of Mages
Many years ago, before even the time of the pyramids, man wandered the world believing that it lived alone with no one higher upon the food chain. That was learned to not be true when a small group of humans who were traveling around looking for a place to call home came upon an interesting and dangerous discovery. In a land that would be later called England high up in the mountains they found a dragon. Now the dragon was going to eat them all but their cries for mercy had spared them their lives. In exchange for sparing them all of the humans had to serve the dragon in anyway he desired. For at least 100 years they served him before the the 3rd generation had enough and thought of a plan to get rid of the dragon. They tricked the dragon into eating some food laced in a sleeping tonic that took months to finally make. As the dragon fell into a deep slumber the humans killed the dragon and bathed in its blood. It was later learned that as a result that exposure to the dragon's blood that they could use magic just like the dragon.

Generation after generation the mages grew in power using their magic to influence the world anyway they desired. They even found more of the magical world and learned more and more about it. Unfortunately, not all mages lived to do good, some sought to do evil in the world but were defeated before any real harm could of been done. It was also learned that as the years went by family members of mages were not always guaranteed to be born with the gift as well. Thanks to that and the activity of the Templars of St. John the mages had to hide themselves so as to make sure they would not all be killed. As a final effort to protect the future of all mages a group of 12 master wizards cast a spell on the world so that all mages would not know, understand, or use magic until they reached adulthood. This had been an issue to deal with at first but later it was decided that a school would be made so to house and teach them of magic in a safe environment. For the past 3000 years this system has been in place to keep all mages safe.

The Battle Mages
(Merlins Order)

565963

The order of Merlin is an ancient order that was created alongside and in association with the Academy itself. The two are linked strongly together and it's very hard to speak of one without the other. You see With the dawn of the academy as a safe haven for mages both old and young came also the birth of the battle mages a group of elite mages specialised in protecting such a safe haven from those who would aim to do it harm or even destroy it entirely.

The battle mages are the academy's most elite, comprised of only one percent of the academy's total passing students. Those within the order are by no means pushovers in any sense of the word. They are professional killing machines who are given access to the most secretive of techniques and spells in order to combat templars and other forces on behalf of the Magnus population. They are essentially the academy's special forces unit and they are typically held to a very high degree of respect by other mages for without them the academy would have fallen long ago.

All mages that have joined the order and reached the highest rank of Merlins Guard are granted a magical pendant that both serves as a badge of office and large mana storage crystal.

The Rogue Mages
(The Order Of Discordia)

569141

Mages come from all across the world and from every and all kinds of backgrounds. So if I were to tell you that those mages who wish to harm others and bring grievances to all those around them exist it would come as no surprise. Enter The Order Of Discordia or more simply- The Rogue Mages.

This order or group is hell-bent on destruction be it small scale or large scale. The Order gathers up all those mages that wish to let their powers sow the seeds of this destruction and give them the logistical backup such a task demands. One could say The Order of Discordia is as old as the Academy itself however magical historians date the origin of the group in its current form back to the time of Rome. Hence it's the title of Discordia.

Not much is know about the Order as it's very secretive however what is known is that those considered members are extremely dangerous and hold a grudge against the academy and the Templars. Not to mention humanity as a whole.

Merlin
(The Wizarding Prodigy)
569142
Merlin. A name so famous Templars tremble at its mention. A name so famous humans know of his tremendous power. A name so famous an entire order was named in honour of him. Yes, Merlin was perhaps the greatest wizard to ever live.

From the second he entered the Academy he showed great potential, being awarded perfect scores for anything and everything he attempted. After his first year in the academy, Merlin had far surpassed those four years ahead of him in both theory and practice and so was granted special status and elevated to his final year (Year Five) as opposed to continuing on into his second. After graduating with top marks Merlin went on to study under many Professors and masters in every tree of magic he could find. The young mage was hungry for knowledge and so after years of extensive study, he came to find himself as an apprentice to Magnus Youngblood who helped him take the mashup of magic he had acquired and refined it into something remarkable.

The wizard went on to do great things following his departure from Magnus and the academy. He even brought England together under one flag saving it from eternal doom. The mage has long since perished however and his burial site has been a closely guarded secret.

R.I.P Merlin. He truly was an inspiration to us all.

The Dangers of Magic
By: Bithiah of Egypt

Although as a new magician, with Rose Tinted Glasses and a fresh face you would be forgiven for thinking that Magic has few if any downsides you would be quite wrong. Many a naive, inexperienced or reckless wizard has found out the hard way that despite the limitless potential of magic the Wizard has quite the limited potential in comparison. When not properly harnessed or prepared for Magic can have dire consequences of an equally limitless nature. So be forewarned those who seek to know the unknowable or to do the impossible, the result may not be to your liking. The Winds of Magic are fickle, and Lady Luck equally so, taking risks with Magic is a bet that seldom can afford to lose, but is all too often lost. Best not to gamble in the first place. The risks of spells backfiring or of overextending yourself can be mitigated through careful study and sufficient precautions in almost all cases. But the power inherent within us is dangerous in the extreme and even the most experienced practitioners of the Arcane Arts ought to take heed and take care, lest they fall prey to overconfidence and subsequently, great disaster.

Magic and The Mortal Realm

wallpaper2you_201007.jpg

Magic in the mortal realm is a bit of a confusing thing as there is no proven way for normal mortals who were not born with the blood of one of the original mages to utilize it. Even contacting spirits such as ghost is impossible as they cannot be seen or heard since you have to have mana flowing through you. Even in the case of mages who are under the effects of the spell that prevents them from having knowledge or ability of using magic would be unable as well. In that case it has something to do with the mana in their bodies not being accessible to them. In the mortal realm most magic is contained in the magical creatures that hide among the mortals. In theory though it is possible to gain magic from taking it from a magical creature, which in turn would kill the creature.

Now the idea of magic was something never forgotten in the mortal realm which is why you will find people who believe that they can use magic. some even find actual knowledge of magic but since they lack mana in them they are left unable to use the knowledge.

It is not required but advised that you keep knowledge of magic away from anyone who is not a mage. It is believed that anyone who even has knowledge of magic being real could become a target by the Order or even the rogue mages.

Note: There is an extremely rare case that a mortal could see a ghost but with no proof they tend to be just seeing things or insane by others around them.

Fairytales and Their Place in the World

631fd0b5d8b37e9011af3ae153c0b11d.jpg
Stories like cinderella, beauty and the beast, and the story of king arthur and his round table in fact were real events that later on were covered up so as to prevent others from finding out magic was real. Many other stories like these had happened everywhere around the world and have been thought to nothing but stories. In most of those stories some kind of magic was involved and the user of that magic was always some kind of mage. Even such beings that were believed to be gods were powerful mages that had gained worshippers and found ways to extend their lives. Even in the end most of them went into hiding out of fear of the Order. But there is one thing that is to be remembered, some stories did not always go the way that they are told today.

Dragons Are Real
8ac501711a0856b16b4919bf4af7649f.jpg

Dragons and mages originally started out with a complicated relationship. With Mages acquiring magic from the blood of one of their kind, dragons have been a bit on edge around mages. Needless to say anytime a dragon attacked a village or city it was because the dragons were trying to kill the mages. Even the Order was having issues dealing them since most dragons could not just fly and breath fire but perform amazing feats of magic. At one point it was even believed that they might conquer the world. That was until the combined effort of Merlin and a select group found a way to control them and future generations of dragons. As time progressed mages have found multiple uses for dragons and have even come up with a way to make it so dragons could take on human forms. Yes, dragon are real and they walk among us.

Divination and Destiny in the Stars
By: Nicodemus of Nicea (pictured below)
571844
Divination is a closely related profession to Astrology at least to those who are Magically inclined. The stars are a portal to the realm of the Gods, or rather they represent the fundamental forces of Magic in the same way that a Mundo (or non-magical) wise man who studies the stars can ascertain the fundamental forces of the Physical world. These same principles are constant across all dimensions and all realities so long as they have a connection to the Ethereal or Astral Plane. Even if the stars you see are not the ones familiar to your own sky, given enough time to study, a Diviner can achieve roughly the same level of accuracy as utilizing the sky in which they are more familiar. A well-charted sky is of course infinitely less difficult to predict than one with few records but if a wizard understands the fundamental properties of the stars, the (often literal) gateways to the Ethereal dimension, they can quite accurately ascertain the future via complicated mathematical and magical predictions and probabilities. All this talk may make it appear that Divination is quite scientific, and technically it is, but it is the furthest thing from an Exact Science. Divination is quite simply impossible to learn for those who are not gifted with the extremely rare ability (even for wizards) known as "The Sight" an inherent talent for seeing patterns and possibilities where others cannot, but more than that it grants supernatural visions, portents, and signs. It is quite easy to tell a wizard is a Diviner because they will either have bags under their eyes, be asleep, or both. Staying up at unholy hours staring at stars or terrible insomnia caused by horrifying visions have made many a Diviner Mad (If their visions have not already)

The Mage Council
8478-v2.jpg

Just as the name says this is a council of mages that oversees the lives of all of the mages in the world. In fact they are in a way the governing body who rules over them all. In the council 11 members are picked to join by its leading member, the 12th mage. This council has been around for at least 3000 years making sure that besides leading the other mages they have kept certain that knowledge of magic is not found out. The current members of the council can constantly change except for the leader. The leader of the council is by point of fact Magnus Youngblood who formed the group from the beginning. Besides him many other members have gone on to do great things or contribute in many ways.

Those who do not approve of the council have been known to join The Order of Discordia.

Haven- City of the Nexus
Fantasy City.jpg

During the creation of the academy many of the other magical creatures and beings sought the aid of the mages to seek refuge away from the mortal realm. As such it was decided that they would also crete a city to become their new haven, which it was named for. All kinds of magical creatures such as elves, orcs, fairies, and so much more live together. As a condition though they all had to agree to live in harmony and that the Mages Council would be the governing body. As a compromise A member from each race was chosen to speak for the people and their interest. One of the first things that they were allowed was to form their own school of magic since the academy only accepted human mages under most conditions. This school had more of the aim of continuing on the knowledge that the magical races had maintained for the generations to come. Other then that not much has been asked by the mages, somethings here or there but nothing much. Other than that the city has become such a wonderful place that even some mages maintain second homes there. Beyond the city there is a vast forest that has rivers and lakes scattered about with only one road that leads to the academy.

The Divine
Sword_Maiden_First_Appearence.png

The idea of gods and goddesses have always been something of a mystery to most of the world. With so many different belief systems claiming that a certain god/goddess or group of gods were the sole rulers of the world it becomes difficult to figure out who is right. In truth what most have believed were gods are actually what mages and other magical races call divine, a mage or magical being who has transcended mortal limitations. In the past many mages would perform spells and rituals that would give them power beyond all that they could image. For a time they would gain followers among the people and create civilizations that would serve them. In time though all came to the same conclusion, that with the power they had there was no need to stay in the mortal world. In the end all of them had long left the mortal realm to somewhere unknown. As for a big question, if they were not the real creators of this world then who is? Well some believe that there really is a God who made everything and everyone. Others don't question and suggest that it would be better to not know. Whatever the case there is one last thing that is know at least about the divine, It is still possible to contact them for aide. Knowledge of calling for there aide is different for each of them and can be sought out in relavent text.

Avalon
The Unbreakable Bastion
586610

Avalon does not appear in the area directory of Academy and could be considered a separate realm by itself in the already separate realm of the Academy. It exists in a separate spatial plane that can only be accessed by using one of the magical rings each of the council members bear as their badge of office.

Furthermore, every treasure the academy and subsequent organizations own or acquire through their own various activities has its respective place in the Treasury. Treasures of importance are kept in different categories, ranging from armours, weapons, jewellery, spell tomes, consumables, manufacturing goods, etc. This makes them easily accessible to those in the council when needed.

Furthermore, any spell tomes or items deemed too powerful for disclosure are kept tucked away and sealed deep within the depts of Avalons chambers. Safeguarded by spells and summons the likes you've never seen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Features
Entrance:
The entrance to Avalon begins at the Treasure Hall, a gallery that contains a limitless ceiling and is literally filled with mountains of treasure. While the enormous quantities of gold and luxurious items may appear staggering, the items placed here are considered to be of little value compared to what is locked further in the vaults.

While so, flying is the only way to cross the mountains of gold effectively towards the gate that leads into the deep recesses of Avalon. The "Blood of Jormungandr" a legendary item, produces a poison cloud that renders the surrounding air highly toxic to prevent thieves from trespassing. If one does not possess any abilities or tools capable of countering this toxicity, they would drop dead within three steps.

On the other side of the chamber is a recess in the wall, that is in the shape of a door, but looks like a bottomless pit. The door can only be opened by a predetermined password. This door leads to the next area.

The Mausoleum:
Just as its name would suggest the mausoleum is just that. A mausoleum in which the remains of those deemed worthy enough are laid to rest and commemorated. King Arthur and Merlin are but two of the current thirteen commemorated and laid to rest within the Mausoleum. In the place of each resting soul stands statues in their likeness. All fully equipped with items one would expect them to have. Note: Excaliber is not equipped on the statue of Arthur for security reasons.

If one enters the Mausoleum with one of the council members rings equipped they will activate a trap. A trap in which the statues of those present will be animated and begin to attack everyone present in the room until nothing remains of their corpses. The statues have been outfitted with legendary gear that can make short work of almost any mage or summon. The trap will also activate if the items are removed from them by anyone but Magnus.

The Great Library:
The Great Library holds all the spell tomes that have ever been written bar those described as world class. It has a directory yes and also a very complex magic circle system to help with navigation through its endless halls. But make one noise and you can count on a swift death. You must communicate in silence and move without a sound. Flight is also dispelled in this area. one must reach the end of this labyrinth to reach the next level, Good luck. It's a three-day sprint.

The Vaults:
The final area of Avalon is that of the vaults themselves. Each vault is protected by a different spell and each vault contains a different treasure be it Excaliber, a spell tome or even the great philosophers stone itself. Everything defined as world class is kept stored away within these vaults and it's where they are intended to stay for perhaps the rest of eternity. there are 52 vaults in total. Also note that the vaults are protected by the very dragon that had Excaliber forged from it's flame. Merlins Dragon itself.

Crystal Magic
587220
Crystals come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, durability and structure. . Now the difference actual crystals and ice crystals is that crystals can absorb elemental magical essence while ice is a state of water, frozen, and cannot absorb such essence into itself, it could but only water elemental essence. Its also a very little known type of magic since hardly anyone seems to have the aptitude for the magic itself. Few know how to use it in its entirety while others make do with imitations of crystal magic. But its a magic that isn't without risks. For one, its sentient magic and rarely allows people to actual use it, giving people imitations of itself rather than just bestowing such a magic unto them. Those that can do actual crystal magic often have a sight gifted to them, but they have to use a catalyst to use the magic. But truly gifted mages with crystal magic don't use a catalyst, they use the minerals of whatever magical element is most abundant around them. This branch of crystal magic isn't without risks. The magic uses the very essence of the mage itself to absorb the elemental essence to create it. But those blessed by the mythical Heart of Lin can they use the magic without much consequence but they themselves are prone to a disability when using the magic. The magic then becomes part of them and no need of a catalyst. But some just keep up the appearance of it.

Shamanism
d818ab4dc11cfb3e0c880660af175e62.jpg

Shamanism like many other practices of magic have been practiced from the very beginning. They had served as advisors to anyone who sought their council. Thanks to the natural ability that they acquire by communicating with the spirits long enough they would have a form of clairvoyance that would help others. Besides as advisors they would heal the sick and be the link to the ancestors. Common mistake most make though is that shamans believe that one's ancestors or even the spirits should be worshipped. It is more that they should be remembered and respected but nothing else. Yes over time certain knowledge of shamans had been passed to the rest of the world and as such it was interpreted in whatever way people saw fit. Even today shamans are thought to be these heals who can speak to the dead and perform strange rituals. Shamanism is more about the connection to the cosmic energy around everything and the spirit realm.

Originally the Supreme spirits of the Higher and Lower Realm would seek out those who had the gift to be shamans and teach them. Later on those who were taught continued teaching others in the place of the spirits. For one to become a shaman in ancient times a test was given where one was required to perform a series of task. At the end if you past you would be recognized by the supreme spirits as a real shaman. Now in the modern day thing are a bit different since things are not handled so formally as before. A Harbinger (high ranked shaman) can instruct someone without having to put someone through the trial since they have gained the respect of the spirits. In a way they take responsibility for those who they are teaching.

What make shamanism special is that unlike other forms of magic shamans don't have full control over spirits. Necromancers would control spirits while shamans either bargain or give a sacrifice (normally tea or milk) to the spirits for their aid. Now of course there are some exceptions to this such as Harbingers. They have normally spent so much time with the spirits that depending on how they see the shaman that they will lend aid for free. The other is what would be called a Dark Shaman, those who force spirits to serve them. Those we go down this path are unable to seek the aid of the supreme spirits but are able to become powerful very quickly.

Finally, shamans have actually done something very good for the sake of all mages. They had learned how to summon familiars that could help mages in a large number of ways. This knowledge was spread so far that in the modern day you would not meet a single mage who doesn't have a familiar.

[Note: Currently there are only 7 known HUMAN shamans alive not counting students]

Elves
8a289e76c5e2f081d7ad26d76516865d.jpg
The elven people have had a long history which far exceeds the time of the mages, but not of the dragons. For a time they all lived quietly in peace hidden away from the humans and any that might try to harm them. It was only because of a chance encounter with a human who found the home of the elves that they were dragged out into the light. For years the humans had been at war with the elves seeking to exploit their power for their own personal gain. Over time many things would pass for the elves such as the introduction of half-elves, the separation between tribes, and a war with the humans and dragons. But through it all the elves have been able to push through and survive. Once the dust settled around the time of the mages the elves had been spread far with some communing with mages and others staying in the forest and wilds seeing themselves as the protectors of nature. It was during this time that a certain shaman who traveled the world went about making peace with the elves to prove that he and his people only wanted friendship from them. It took some time but they finally agreed to ally themselves with the mages who they daw as equals. And just like them, the elves also were being hunted by the Templars who saw them as abominations of the world who needed to be wiped out. And when the time came the elves fled the mortal realm to the Nexus with the help of Magnus, the same shaman that made peace with them a few thousand years before. They have lived in Haven from that day on peacefully only wanting that there was a forest for them to remind them of where they came from.

Elves come in many different variety such as: dark, high, snow, wood, blood, and even half. These are more classifications used during the time the elves split into different tribes due to certain disagreements. These differences also seemed to have determine the types of magic that they use (but there are are exceptions of course). The magic they possess as magical creatures is more inherent so all elves born have magic and is useable from birth. Over time though just like the mages any elf can learn over time to use any form of magic though so they aren't very limited in this regard either.

In Haven most elves are either teachers, gardeners, or advisors with smaller numbers taking up other professions. As for religion the elves are pretty similar to the mages as it was found out that even the elven gods (which there are 12 of) were just elves who were powerful and most likely the first elves alive. The elves were also the first race picked to try and recolonise the mortal realm for the magical races again by the mage council.

Familiars
Familar.jpg
As was stated in the shaman section, shamans were able to discover how to summon familiars that would be helpful and many different ways. Once knowledge of this spell spread it became the world's most common spell. As for what they are and how they work that is a simple and hard thing to explain. The best way to explain it is that your familiar is an animal spirit that best reflects your inner self and is a part of you. Because of this familiars tend to act the same way as their mage master even in ways one might not expect. This also means that familiars as such when harmed with also spread that pain to their mage and vice versa (always keep them safe). On the plus side even though familiars do not possess magical abilities themself (except for flight and mental communication) they are able to help augment the spells mages use. This can help make a mage who can barely conjure a spark create a flame big enough to roast an adult bear until it becomes ashes. They can also help with casting complex spells that require a lot of mental work by sharing some of the load, decreasing the amount of focus needed. As for summoning your familiar for the first time the process is a strange one compared to most other spells since it is a personal kind of spell. It can be done in many different ways that would take forever to list down but the most common would simply to meditate you hear their voice calling out to you. Upon summoning all familiars must be named by their mage so they can be easily called upon when needed.

The familiar also goes well with the Animal Connection spell from the Path of Nature since shamans specifically made it so you could mimic the attributes of your spirit animal (familiar).

The Haven Academy of Magic
mana_khemia_conceptart_v14Xv.jpg
This academy was created after the magical races of the Nexus requested to the mages that they also have facilities to teach the young to continue on their magical traditions. Just the the Nexus Academy the Havn academy takes in young students once they reach adulthood since they believe that learning too young could cause many problems in the long run. Also the students that normally go here would be magical beings such as elves, fairies, orcs, and the like with all the instructors the same as well. Every year the academies have a festival where they celebrate by coming together to remind each other that even though they are different that they are still all friends.

Royalty
Crown of Ragarok.jpg
Over time many different families of royalty and nobility had risen and fallen from power time and time again. In fact currently due to mass exodus from the mortal realm there are only 50 different noble houses (split between all the races) who had to concede almost all of their power to Magnus and the mages council. But because of their status they do tend to hold high positions in Haven like the representatives for each race, advisors, land overseers, and even some have been accepting into the mages council itself. As one point in their favor most royalty tend to possess amazing magical power and skill which makes them stand above the rest. Even some mages have come to find out that they were actually members of nobility who were lost dues to the fact that not everyone born in their family is a mage.

Relations between the Humans and the Magical
1.jpg
Mankind and the magical have had a strange and long history with mixed stories all around. Simply put it has been exaggerated how much humans hate the magical by many. In truth there was only a selection group of people that have ever truly hate the magical. In fact the war between the elves and humans was only waged because of a greedy human wanting the elves to serve him. Now of course this fact did little to not make some have resentment against the humans that were involved in that war. But there was a vast majority who hated that human king for starting the war to begin with (which resulted in his execution after the war). History has shown that most normal humans welcome the magical in open arms (as long as they don't try to kill them that is). For many years many mages traveled the world doing good, bad, and sometimes both which resulted in many thinking differently about them. Many even worshipped tons of mages as gods (please refer to the Divine). All in all it is not a fair statement to say that all humans hate the magical but it is fair to say that there are those who see them as anything other than good.

The Templar Order of St. John is the only group of humans that truly hate the magical because of a group of dark mages who were running rampant across europe. Their leader and founder John Masterson lead a group of knights to kill the dark mages with the intent to stop them forever. Many had died in the process but they were rewarded with hidden knowledge, a way to negate magic. Because of this the Templars have become overly worried that all magical beings would become a danger to what they care for in this world.
