Name
Actual — Michiru Nishidake
Alias — Nariko Murasaki
Age — 20
DOB — Winter
Height — 5’3”

Personality
‘Nariko’ is a hardworking, but quiet girl enrolled in a veterinary medicine program at the college. She’s got a can-do attitude and enough common sense to get through most day-to-day situations. Unfortunately, once she’s committed to a decision, it takes either some hard facts or a persuasive argument to get her to change her mind. Honest and reliable, she would rather die than disappoint anyone relying on her to do something. While nervous around strangers and ‘talented individuals’, once they get her to open up, she gets much more chatty and cheerful. Despite being on the quiet side, she is quite brave when necessary. But, beyond the happy, tranquil smile...there is a melancholy air about her that her co-workers haven’t been able to understand, but have associated it with her not wanting to stand out. On the job, she tries to be as professional and efficient as possible, but with a calm smile on her face - so no one thinks she’s being too bossy.

Virtues
  • Hard-working
  • Courageous
  • Tenacious
  • Intelligent (unless a smart phone/gizmo is involved)
  • Reliable
  • Possesses a great amount of common sense
  • Handy
Vice
  • Stubborn (especially about safety)
  • Secretive (about her personal life)
  • Tries to do it all/hates asking for help/feels she’s a bother for asking
  • Gets panicky when too much attention is on her
  • Exceptionally hard on herself
  • A little too quiet
  • Overworks herself

  • Reading & Learning
  • Gardening & Landscaping
  • Crocheting & Knitting
  • Practicing/Playing violin
  • Singing in the shower (or to the animals in the clinic)
  • Animals (Big and small)
Dislikes
  • Loud Noises!
  • Insects & Spiders
  • Summertime (Too hot, too many bugs, too many loud things, too hard on the animals)
  • Crowds & busy places
  • Off-keys & Sour Notes
  • ‘Dressing Up’ (But does it anyway to keep a job)
  • Having the spotlight on her for any reason
Biography
Nariko was born ‘Michiru Nishidake’ in a rural community into a family of farmers, the fifth child and only daughter. They were quite successful in their trade, but only because everyone worked hard to make it that way. From a young age, she was out helping her older brothers and parents with the farm work, especially with the gardens and taking care of the animals. She loved that simple life, but her mother wanted her to go beyond just being on the farm. Her father wanted the same - mostly because his sons all wanted to stay on the farm to take on the management and wouldn’t need their sister to help.

So her parents pushed her to try new things beyond farm work. Dance, violin, singing, sports, art, you name it - they tried it. All in hopes of finding a special talent in her they could cultivate into something incredible - something that would get her out of the country and into the great big world. To make a name for herself.

Michiru, on the other hand, saw it as her parents trying to get rid of her. Her cheerful demeanor started to wane and the happy-go-lucky girl grew more withdrawn and quiet. She worked hard to try and please her parents, but the majority of the hobbies they wanted her to pursue didn’t interest her or were very difficult for a girl her age to grasp quickly...or she was just plain lousy at.

Naturally, her older brothers got jealous that she got to try so many new things without them and started to give her a hard time whenever she was practicing whatever it was her parents had her attempt to do - often teasing her and saying, ‘no one likes a show off’. Their harassment and bullying eventually brought her to the decision of trying to blend in as much as possible for the rest of her life. She stopped trying to get better at the things she didn’t like and hid the things she did enjoy away - all in hopes of getting her big brothers to like her more.

Sadly, her seeming lack of ambition to excel in anything they pushed her towards left her parents stumped on how to help her. They just kept trying to find her calling and she felt even more pushed away by them. She spent more time in the barns and great outdoors than in the house, trying to avoid a confrontation. Confusion turned to frustration and her parents started to lament how ‘lazy’ and ‘uninspired’ their youngest child was when it came to her own future. Conflicts were commonplace in her life.

Over the years, a chasm formed and widened between the girl and her family until she finally broke. Michiru left with only a couple of suitcases and a few summers’ worth of earnings from a job at the local veterinary practice a week after her high school graduation. It wasn’t much to start out on, but she felt she had to leave before they threw her out. Her heart couldn’t take it anymore. She created a new identity, changed her appearance, and created a whole new persona when she arrived in the city. Nariko Murasaki was born.

For awhile, Nariko managed to get by with temporary positions while working her way through a veterinary program at her college - after getting papers for her new identity. Nariko’s work ethic was good and her dogged pursuit of knowledge was admirable. Being in the big city was a hard adjustment though - where everything about her ‘back water’ mannerisms was critiqued by her peers. She used their feedback to better hide her upbringing, to wear the clothes a ‘normal girl’ would wear, and even how to disguise her accent. It was hard, but eventually she started to feel as if she was truly becoming Nariko instead of just acting like who she felt Nariko should be.

But, inevitably, things continued to happen that put her further in the weeds when it came to her finances. Her position was cut in the retail job, she had to leave a toxic work environment as a server at a restaurant, and then the last job she could find was only half-time at a non-profit animal clinic...with a low wage, not enough to keep the bills paid. And no matter how much she cut back on her expenses, it was still not enough. Finally, Nariko was faced with a loan that she would likely die trying to pay off or...accepting a babysitting gig from a rather eccentric gentleman. She felt if she could watch over sassy chickens and mischievous goats, why not some human kids?

With everything on the line, she showed up to the address on the piece of paper - only to find she wasn’t going to be baby-sitting children. No, she was put in charge of guys about her age!

Other
  1. Nariko is going to college for veterinary medicine, but is pursuing a dual major in botany. (She’s at/near the top of her class due to her background.)
  2. Her last part-time job had her working at a non-profit animal hospital. (They might call her in during the course of the story for larger animal cases.)
  3. The only ‘hobbies’ that stuck in Nariko’s childhood were the violin and singing lessons. She continued to learn and practice on her own, becoming skilled in both areas - though will completely deny she knows anything about music if asked. (She considers those hobbies ‘just for her’ and will get ‘mad as a wet settin’ hen’ if she gets discovered.)
  4. Nariko won’t talk about her family under any circumstance.
  5. She uses the voice training to minimize her country accent - but can’t hide it if she’s in an excitable state, where it becomes very pronounced.
  6. Due to living on the farm, she knows how to operate a variety of machines and use a wide array of power tools, allowing her to be quite handy. (Still has trouble with smart phones and ‘newfangled technology’.)
  7. Her ability to schedule and plan things comes from years of watching her parents and learning how vital it is for the successful operation of a farm.
(Will format this like you had in the box above if you want - though perhaps with different colors. Had a hard time seeing the light gray on pink.)

Age: 20
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Strawberry Blonde
Height: 5' (152.4CM)
DOB: Autumn

flower-divider-2.png

Personality
Kasumi is an old soul. She spends her time researching artifacts or daydreaming about ancient history. She’s often too quiet, preferring the company of a good book over people, which has made it a struggle for her to maintain friendships. Her smiles are gentle, like the quiet promise of sunlight after a rainy afternoon. There’s a sadness that lingers in her eyes, the loss of her grandfather a profound sorrow that she shelters within her heart. Recently she’s made an effort to focus on the present and savor life, reminding herself to laugh more often, with mixed success. Enrolling in Meiyoto University has restored some normalcy to her life, the other students providing ample distraction to her day-to-day trials.

Virtues
Amiable, gentle, studious, intelligent,
observant, something of an old soul,
and an excellent cook

Vices
Absent-minded, quiet (prefers books over people), introverted,
clumsy (from daydreaming too often), sometimes wears mismatched socks
too passive/doesn’t stand up for herself, loses track of time easily

Likes
Ancient history/art, traditional festivals,
antiques/old shops, playing the shamisen (not very well),
dessert (her favorite is dango), watching the rain, autumn,
dressing eclectically, flowers, libraries, and
traveling/exploring old ruins (the idea of it, anyways)

Dislikes
Graveyards, visiting her parents, wearing black,
swimming, rigid schedules, abrasive personalities,
conflict, and peanuts

Biography
Kasumi was born into a middle-class family. While her parents were both highly respected in their professions, they were not present for most of her childhood. Kasumi was left in the primary care of her grandfather, Nakamora Atsugi, who owned a modest antique emporium called Kino no Negai. Her afternoons and summer vacations were spent within those storied corridors, her grandfather sketching tales of wonder about each curiosity he had collected. She dreamt of visiting the villages and towns he detailed in his stories, specifically the ancient shrines strewn throughout the countryside.

As her grandfather aged, Kasumi began shouldering more responsibility at Kino no Negai. It eventually became her part time job in high school. For her, it was an absolute delight to hear the gentle chimes of the door every time a customer visited, and to wile her hours away daydreaming about history. But one disastrous evening, her grandfather suffered a heart attack while closing the shop, and passed away at the age of sixty-eight. Her entire world collapsed. Not only had she lost her Jiji, but she’d also lost her home. Her parents liquidated the antiques in the emporium, treating them like useless rubbish, with the exception of a timeworn Shodo scroll which the new lease proprietor purchased on a whim. The shop was converted into a cafe, the scroll nestled away in some forlorn corner. On her worst days, Kasumi has been known to gaze through the feature window for hours, but has never stepped within the building again.

It has been two years since her grandfather passed, with Kasumi attempting to piece her life together into some semblance of normality. She enrolled into Meiyoto University. Much to her parent's chagrin, she selected double majors in history and ancient art studies. Her father refused to support her academic focus, arguing that she needed to select something more appropriate for modern times, like her mother’s profession in biotech engineering. Without her father’s support, she floated between part-time jobs, struggling to find a way to finance her degree and living expenses. First at a cafe. Then at a retailer. Then a travel agency. Somehow it never worked out. Her managers always complained that she was absent-minded. What was she always daydreaming about, anyways?

Her last hope had been that strange phone call, offering what she perceived as a ‘nanny’ position. She was up for the surprise of a lifetime!

Name (last, first): Shizuka Kajika
Age: 22
Height: 5’5 (165 cm)
DOB: Winter

Personality: As an introvert, she definitely takes longer to warm up to other people and make friends. But once she does, she is fiercely loyal and will unleash her hidden crackhead energy. Among friends and family, she loves making everyone happy and smile, whether it’s by organizing outings, making food, or just creating a really lively environment. When she’s with people she doesn’t know or know well, it can almost seem scary as for how quiet she is because she can always be found in the corners or far walls of any parties that she goes to, just observing everyone there. People's first impressions of her usually describe her as a calm and quiet intellectual loner, as she is often seen with her headphones on and a book in her hand. However, these people definitely don't know that this is just how she is around strangers.

Virtues:
  • Perceptive
  • Humorous/Witty
  • Dedicated
  • Open Minded
Vices:
  • Sarcastic
  • Likes to bottle things up/Keep secrets
  • Has a harder time working with a group
  • Sometimes too laid back/Seems careless
Likes:
  • Traveling
  • Eating (she loves sweets and spicy foods)
  • Sleeping
  • Singing/Listening to Music
  • Lazing around/Free time
Dislikes:
  • Coffee
  • Bitter Foods
  • Tedious Things
  • Suffocating Expectations/Rules

Bio:
As a free-spirited kid, she’s always loved it when she went on trips with her parents in her early childhood. However, when her father got a new job that required them to move from the suburbs to the big city, she was no longer surrounded by nature and was restricted from going on as many solo adventures, since it was really easy for children to get lost in the city. With her parents being busier than ever, they had no choice but to fill up Kajika’s schedule, signing her up for many extracurricular activities to make sure that she was never bored or had to stay home alone for long periods of time. Fortunately, her parents always made time to have at least one meal with the entire family every day, although there were times when that just wasn’t possible.
As a result, she learned early on the importance of having close friends to hang out with. Fortunately, she had moved to the big city just in time for the first year of middle school, so it wasn’t too awkward for her to find and make her own friend group. Growing up with her friends, she discovered that there weren’t a lot of people who had as packed of a schedule like she had. Eventually, she began hating the fact that she didn’t have as much time to have fun with other people, leading her to convince her parents to lessen her workload now that she had people to spend her time with.
With more free time, she was able to find new passions and pursue other possibilities for future careers. One of her passions was surprisingly business, which was coincidentally the thing that took her carefree childhood away from her. However, she discovered that this subject was truly interesting, leading her to choose that major in her chosen college. Now that she is in her last year of college and considering what job she wants to do to get experience, she is approached by a random gentleman at a coffee shop who offered a… babysitting job? She decides to accept the challenge, as she doesn’t really have a lot to lose, as the man’s business card seems like it’s from a legit company.
With this… slightly concerning description, Kajika holds a slip of paper with an address in front of the building where she will start this new job. Taking a deep breath, she pushes the front doors open, mentally preparing herself for what’s to come.

Other:
  1. She enjoys fiction novels, comics, manga, and anime in her free time. Since this isn’t something that is shared by her friends, she tends to keep this a secret.
  2. She is a hopeless romantic, but she is definitely not actively looking for a relationship.
  3. Outside her home, she practically lives in the various tiny cafes and coffee shops she finds all over the city, despite her dislike of coffee, as she really enjoys the peaceful nature of these spots.
  4. When she is alone, you can often find her holed up in corners of libraries or bookstores or quiet parks with a book in hand and music in her ears.
  5. Due to her love of nature, she frequently finds the time to go for hikes and runs, so she is pretty athletic.

Name: Luna Kusaki
Age: 21
DOB: Fall
Height: 5'2 (157.5 cm)

Personality: Luna is rather awkward and standoffish when it comes to unfamiliar people. She’ll never act outright mean to people but has tendencies to avoid and ignore people she doesn’t know. However, she loves the idea of meeting new people and building relationships but often finds it hard due to her inability to socialize with strangers properly. Past her much colder exterior she has a more laid-back personality. Always quick to tease someone and often responds with playfully arrogant remarks. Outside of her social problems she's very hard working and always gives her all to a task or goal that lies in front of her and while she is not afraid of failure she prefers to get things right the second time around.

Biography:

Luna was born in a rather middle-class family in Naples, Italy with her parents and elder brother. As a child, she had a love for gymnastics and often spent her time outside trying to mimic a lot of the cool moves she often saw on tv by professional gymnasts. This passion was noticed by her parents and she started taking actual lessons around the time she started school.

As the years went on Luna reached one of her greatest achievements which was being invited to attend a Junior Olympics Summer camp and potentially compete in the Junior Olympics for gymnastics at age 16. Unfortunately, Luna suffered from a major accident during one of her routines at the camp that was quick to put an end to her athletic career. It resulted in a severe knee fracture and a sprained ankle both in her left leg. Even after surgery and a half a year of rehab she was never able to achieve the results she had before her injury.

While this may seem like an unfortunate end to a young woman’s future this was a convenient escape in Luna’s eyes. After having time to reflect during her resting period she realized that she didn’t truly enjoy her life. And that dream she had to someday win gold at the Olympics wasn’t truly hers. It was a result of other's expectations pushed onto her. She enjoyed gymnastics as a whole but not the competitiveness of the sport. Being in the spotlight was never her calling anyway.

After Highschool Luna was determined to still have a career in the athletic field. Maybe not as an athlete but as a coach or trainer. The idea of passing on her knowledge and experiences couldn’t help but excite her so she was dead-set on one day achieving it. Her parents happily paid for her to attend and get her associate’s degree but Luna wanted more than that. However, that would have to come out of her pocket and that was money she didn’t have, even with the life-savings she had saved up.
With no hope of getting enough money to continue her program, she was prepared to go and move back in with her parents for the time being. No matter how much it pained her to just give up- it was either that or the streets. But a glimmer of hope shined on her when she was offered such a ridiculous offer. Full tuition and a place to stay all for what seemed like babysitting? That couldn’t be right but nothing about the man was shady in the slightest. Luna was dead set on completing her program. So if stepping out of her comfort zone and accepting such a strange job is what it took to get the chance to continue. So be it. With her goals in mind she set off for the address she was given. What she was met with, however, was far from anything she could imagine.

Others:
  • Had learned to play piano as a pastime during her break.
  • She and her family often moved around due to her father’s job.
  • Luna occasionally walks with a limp if her leg ends up having a bad day.
  • She’s ambidextrous with her hands in most activities but tends to favor her left.
  • Still actively does gymnastics in her free time but to a much smaller degree compared to her teenage years.

True to her name, Hotaru is a spark in the dark; her sanguine spirit a beacon of hope in an era ruled by pessimism. However, just like a firefly, she only burns and exists in the now. Reborn and living each day like it's her last. Lacking that ability of foresight she can, therefore, come off as quite childish and naive. Biography
Born prematurely in the height of summer, Hotaru spent her childhood struggling with a frail body and was confined to her house the majority of it. As such, for the longest time, she was completely ignorant about the world. Her knowledge dictated by what she had at hand, being magazines, books, and tv-shows. It wasn't until she hit her teens that her condition would start to improve and she would be allowed to attend school. However, by then, Hotaru's perception of the world had become so warped by the limited information that she could no longer assimilate with those her age; thus, her life being continually lonely.

She managed to finish high school despite this and graduated with average grades. Not planning at first to continue her studies she turned to work. Hotaru being Hotaru, though, wasn't able to hold any of the few jobs she landed as she bored too quickly and consequently quit. That was when she had the glorious idea of becoming an actor, just like those she had spent her childhood watching.

Now set on the stage she only had to figure out how to get there. Fortunately for her, the perfect opportunity would soon appear in the form of a babysitting job.

Other
- Rarely in contact with her family, the exception being her grandparents.
- Once tried to pierce her ears at home but it went horribly wrong and now she has a scar on her right earlobe.
- Owns a bucket list notebook.
