Actually, that idea has some pretty strong potential. It could be good for setting up a sense of escalation.
Having the first of the patients seem horribly outmatched will make encounters in the future seem more and more drastic by comparison. Especially with characters like Chad and Stitcher, it could turn into a comedic bit of spectacle.
But then again, making a scene like that work will require committed collaboration between authors.
