The New York Chronicle, est. 1893, is a bi-weekly newspaper based in New York City with a worldwide readership. Until recently, the newsroom had consisted of six departments: News, Celebrity Gossip, Editorials/Opinion, Sports, Art, and Travel; each with an individual and dedicated team of departmental editors, writers, researchers, and interns, based in the Manhattan headquarters.
Following an innovative shake up by paper editor Joan Therese, the Editorial/Opinion branch made and published a series of investigations into cold and disputed cases over a trial course of several issues. As a result, three arrests and subsequent convictions were successfully proceeded through the courts. The articles, acting as a forefront for justice in the city, garnered international acclaim and attention, revitalising The NYCโs declining readership amongst increasingly modernised online competition.
Delighted, Therese appointed a new branch to the paperโs newsroom: The Independent Investigative Crime Department.
The newly founded investigative department would act as a private entity working on behalf of public citizens; receiving tips or leads and acting as a substitute for an overwhelmingly corrupt and unreliable NYPD. Unsolved missing persons, cold case murders, disputed verdicts and corrupt cops would all be scrutinised and brought forth in front of the public and the judiciary.
As the cases begin to land on the desks of the writers and researchers, will the paper be able uphold its success at solving the unsolvable? Can the staff, as diverse and distinct as they are, retain functional working relationships as the tensions rise higher? Is the department really a bearer of justice, or just another melting pot for the corrupt, the bad, and the dirty? Only time will tell.

hello!! nice to see you here. iโm samm and i am here with my first rp!! iโm very excited and have been brewing this one alongside a few friends and want to get another few rpers involved. basically the idea is that the characters have each been transferred from various other departments, newsrooms, other private investigator practices etc into the new investigative crime department aaaand yaโฆ they got shit to solve and a paper to write while contending with their own relationships and drama. sounds sexy, no?

The formidable head of department. This role leads the team in their investigations, dictating the case and any lines of enquiry. They must ensure utmost due diligence and attention throughout the department, and make decisions when there are decisions to be made. Ultimately, it is the department head who decides what goes to print and what remains behind closed doors, and for a department based on justice and transparency, there is certainly room for some controversy...
crime researchers

Think of crime researchers as unqualified detectives, either withholding from enrolling in the NYPD, or being unable to make the cut. They spend a majority of their time out and about, collecting evidence, speaking to witnesses or key persons, building an unbiased and independent inquiry on behalf of individuals with complaints, tips or leads. They will liaise with writers to build a factual and impartial case that seeks to reveal answers and truth amid missed opportunities, malpractice and failed inquiries.

The writers are The New York Chronicle's bread and butter. They form the very words that are printed and ingested by readers across the globe. Their penmanship and craft must withstand the toughest critics: the general public. Just as they scrutinise the evidence and lay the hard truth out bare, the readers will do the same. Lose the confidence of the public; lose the very foundation the department is built on. Writers must balance the demand for good stories with the demand for honesty and integrity in a city fast losing hope in both the government, the public services, and the media. They must liaise between crime researchers and the department head to produce a piece of print deemed fit for press.
interns

The interns are usually students or recent graduates looking to get a foot in the door with investigative journalism. If they can find a friend in any of the established researchers or writers in the department, their experience at The New York Chronicle may be the perfect opportunity to hone their skills and practice the career. If not... hope you like rush-hour coffee runs and being the designated office messenger.

rule one.
Follow RPN rules. This RP will probably cover mature themes and topics, and so discretion may be advised. Crimes such as murder, kidnap, etc will be mentioned and explored so please do not join if this is something you are not comfortable with.
rule two.
It goes without saying, no bigotry or intolerance and certainly no bullying will be accepted OOC. I'm really not here for OOC drama so lets try and avoid it - this is an inclusive RP that has the purpose of being fun above all else. Politeness and respect can go a long way!
rule three.
This is an advanced/literate roleplay with a requirement of accurate spelling and grammar with minimal mistakes. Hey, sometimes it happens, but generally I want this to be a really precise and coherent RP. Please run plots that involve other characters through the RPer first to avoid stepping on anyone's toes, and aim to write upwards of 3+ paragraphs so everyone has something to work with.
Post requirement is flexible, but once a week would be nice if possible.

This RP is application-based, so eventually I will post an application page for characters (one per RPer please) in order for me to read over and decide who would best suit the setting and general vibe.
