Millennium City: Nova - The Mysterious People Caper

Off to a Better Place

The office was dimly lit by a single lightbulb dangling from the ceiling on an almost inoperable ceiling fan. Papers cluttered the desk in front of you as the stench of stale cigarette filled the air around you. Seated in front of you at the desk was a gruff man, clad in a poorly made suit and tie. He looked as if he was going off two hours of sleep, or perhaps no sleep at all.

The desk in question was labeled with an old rusty plaque placed near the center with the words "B. Wolf" imprinted on it, and was positioned in such a way that those with OCD would twitch at the mere sight. Whether it was for money or simply out of the kindness of your heart, you all came here on your own terms after hearing of a series of kidnappings around the upper class area of Millennium City.

266

"I hope you guys can do more than just look the part." The man who had summoned you all stated in a gruff voice as he took a long drag of his cigarette before blowing out a large cloud of smoke into the air, the smell of cigar only growing stronger as he did so.

Asuka wasn’t even sure where to begin when it comes to accepting Wolf’s job offer. First, she went through having to watch the group fight Stroheim, turning him helpless as she didn’t know about what he has really done other than just be a Nazi. That went totally well for her. Then, she had to fight whatever was looming in the streets and making numerous citizens of Millennium City run for their lives. This time, she was definitely more involved than before, making her less of a bystander and a load of living junk.

Now, she was offered to help Mr. Wolf investigate the case of the unsolved series of kidnappings by the man himself. Before she could say anything, Jak cut her off, accepting the gruff detective’s offer, as she turned towards him. Then she turned back to the man, thinking of what to say. She could say yes, but that could mean that she might have to fight for the third time. Alternately, she could say no, but it wouldn’t help her relations with the groups of people that came from other universes, only serving to harm them further.

“Ne— (N—)”

...was all Asuka could get out of her mouth as soon as she made the decision, but something within her prompted her to pause. It was her gut feeling, begging for her to give in anyway and not run away. Now, the young German was once again split on whether to join Jak or not. She uncomforably turned her eyes from left to right, almost as though she was about to sweat from her building stress. Then, a thought came up in her mind.

‘Ich darf nicht weglaufen. (I mustn’t run away.)’

The decision she would choose finally began to solidly form, eventually ending up in:

“Ja. Ich kann es schaffen. (Yes. I can do it.)”

The female samurai was leaning against a wall, taking a huge smoke since already the smell of burned out tobacco had filled the room. "Sure, since I have nothing better to do anyways." She says in a cold but kind manner to the big bad wolfman. After she stopped smoking and kept her pipe under her kimono, she walks up to the man and ask "They say that the disappearances happened in the upperclass district, right? Are there any clues regarding them?"

Lucario

Menacing...

Lucario grimaced in response to the man's words. The Aura Pokemon in question had opted for leaning against the wall rather than taking a seat. The situation seemed a bit too... dark for any sort of rest. It put the canine on edge, and sitting down would only make him feel more vulnerable than he did now. After all, this situation seemed a lot like a mystery he encountered once in the past. I won't make the same mistakes I did back then, Lucario thought with a hint of anger swelling up inside of him.

"Nice to meet 'cha as well," Lucario greeted with the best sense of humor he could muster up at the moment, which wasn't enough in his eyes. He just couldn't shake the feeling of something evil dwelling the streets, which was dragging down his usually happy attitude. That is what brought him here, anyway. Merely hearing about those disappearances drew him to this man alongside the others. He seemed to be the one in the entire city that had information on this, and if he was gonna help, then Lucario wanted that info as soon as possible.

Finally, the Aura Pokemon chose to ignore the comment about "doing more than looking the part" and instead focused on asking the right questions. For starters...

"It looks like you've got a lot to say about these kidnappings," Lucario started. "What can you tell us about them?" The canine was set on getting right down to business. Even though Baiken had asked the man a question already (who Lucario safely assumed was the "B. Wolf" which he had read on the plaque), Lucario wanted to add a question of his own. The sooner they terminated this threat, the better he would feel about this city. If he was going to get dragged into a place, he might as well feel good about being there, right?

  • Woods silently listened to the shabby-looking man, having leaned against the office walls almost casually. After taking time to think and listen to the “detective” and the others, the American nodded and spoke up.

“If searching out for some sick fuck kidnapping folks is easier than fighting off an entire army of Communists, then I ain’t just dressed for the job,” Frank remarked drily, unfolding his arms and stepping forwards.

“I’m fucking suited for it.” He firmly declared, jaw set as he leaned forward on the desk, hands close to but not quite touching the plaque.

“And considering the apparent government around here’s hired a damned Nazi, I’m guessing we don’t exactly have any police backup, do we?” The blue-eyed soldier inquired, a hint of mild bitterness in his tone.

~Shilo Saga: Interacting with B. Wolf ( thatguyinthestore thatguyinthestore ) and Frank ( FactionGuerrilla FactionGuerrilla )
Location: B. Wolf's Office.

Shilo was leaning against the wall close to the corner, arms folded over her chest as she watched everyone else interact with the bearded man, B. Wolf. Her one good eye glanced over each individual as they spoke up about their ability to handle the job. Finally, her gaze finally landed on Frank. Shilo narrowed her eyes a bit when she realized he and she had basically taken the same position against the wall and tried to recall who had gotten to the room first and who had been the mirror, as she didn't want to be the one who copied. Before she had even really started to recall the entire situation, however, Frank stepped away from the wall. Shilo relaxed a bit more into her resting position, feeling less like a mockery.
"Sure, I've dealt with my fair share of kidnappings," Shilo said, though the way the answer was phrased, and the tone of voice Shilo had used, made it hard to determine whether or note she'd been the kidnapper, the one who was kidnapped, or the one investigating the case... Though, it didn't really matter considering the answer was just a straight "yes."
The raven haired assassin had no questions to ask, as everyone else had asked the few questions that mattered at the moment. Her gaze going back to Frank at his question, though, one that probably mattered the most. Shilo wondered how much it really mattered that they had the police's help or not. They were a small army of people, all of them capable to one extent or another... Did they really need the police for anything? Even private records, Shilo could easily sneak in and grab without much, if any, worry.
"I don't think this guy would be asking us for help if there was a capable police force," Shilo pointed out to Frank, finally letting her arms fall to her sides as she pushed off the wall with her foot to walk a step or two closer toe crowd. That was the closest that Shilo was going to get to everyone, though, obviously not one for physical closeness. "Besides, police are basically useless anyway. Only a handful of them are good at their job, the rest are just high school jocks that couldn't make it into college."

Delsin Rowe Location= Upper Class Area - Bigby Wolf's office
Condition= Curious

Interaction The dingy office wasn't really Delsin's style, but the detective in front of him seemed chill enough. Another cop, but he wasn't anything like Reggie. This 'Wolf' guy doesn't seem to take any BS and his voice sounded like he smoked five packs of cigarettes a day. The second was basically confirmed when he took out a cigarette, Delsin didn't really smoke. It was kinda pointless when his smoke powers make him resistant to the effects of any smoke. Besides, he has seen those PSAs about lung cancer. Conduit or not, he didn't feel like messing up his charming voice for a couple of smokes. "Dressed for the job? I look like the guy who gets kidnapped. But still, I've solved my share of mysteries before, and kicking some bad guy butt never hurt anyone. Except for the bad guys, maybe. "

Honestly, Delsin didn't know why Jak and Baiken were here. Well, maybe Jak, but not Baiken. Regardless, Baiken was also smoking herself. The smell was getting distracting, so Delsin began to draw the smoke out of the room. He made sure not to take all the smoke though, as who knows who this Wolf guy could do? "Alright, what've you got, Mister Wolf? You don't seem to be too keen on asking for the police's help, not that they would be any help if they're anything like the Seattle cops, so let us in on the details."

As some of the people who decided to aid Bigby in the case decided to speak up and ask questions, most of which were the same shit just in different coats of paint. After taking another long inhale of his cigar, Bigby exhaled another cloud of smoke through his mouth before answering their various questions.

"The leads so far are scarce." He said calmly, yet with that same gruff tone that would make those around pay attention. "However, what we do know is that these kidnappings have been taking place at laundry mats, ice cream parlors, and coat tailors. I still don't know the connection between the three, which is what I'm trying to figure out."

Peering over at Frank out of the corner of his eye, Bigby was about to respond to his inquiry on his reluctance to enlist the help of the police force, though it appeared that Shilo had answered for him. "What she said." Bigby said as he pointed a thumb in her direction before returning to looking over his notes for the case.

Despite earnestly having accepted B. Wolf's job offer, Asuka was still hugely confused on what the detective, and all the others inside the room, said. Once again, she was feeling desperate to be understood by the people around her, as she surveyed the area around her. She did not mind the cigarette smoke, as she was mainly shielded from it by her 7'6" mech mech.

"...Huh?"

Lucario

"That doesn't give us much of a lead," Lucario stated fairly obviously as he tilted his head at the statement of the man. Laundry mats, ice cream parlors, and coat tailors. Why would somebody kidnap high-class humans at places like those, especially when they're so... public? Lucario crossed his arms as he thought closely about the case. After a couple of seconds, Lucario shook his head in defeat and annoyance. Nothing was clicking in his mind, and if this Bigby guy couldn't find a connection, then the canine doubted that he himself would be able to anytime soon.

The Aura Pokemon instead opted to ask another question. "Seems you've already looked into this case a good bit already and aren't just calling us here with just a general idea of it," Lucario guessed out loud, even though that question was probably already answered. Guess I'm on my Captain Obvious day today... Lucario joked to himself before he asked the second and third inquiries on his mind. "If you have any sort of evidence you've found, would it be alright if you shared it with us? And if you don't have any, are you sending us off to go look at some of the places you mentioned?"

  • Frank sighed in frustration, releasing his grip on the table and taking a couple steps back. He clenched his knuckles as he took a couple moments to think.

"The people being kidnapped might have something to do with it. Otherwise, we do manual labor- turn over rocks, see if we can find some hidden roaches. We could split up and stake out each kind of place- maybe even talk to the owners while we wait for our mystery man to show his face," Woods decided aloud.

"The asshole's motive could be personal- are there any leads with the missing folks? Hell, has anyone even seen 'em since they were kidnapped, dead or alive?"

The raven hair girl looked down at Asuka and wondered how the girl was going to make it through this place if she couldn't understand the language at the absolute least. Shilo leaned down, getting closer to Asuka than she would anyone else. In a hushed tone the assassin explained everything to Asuka as everyone else discussed among themselves. Shilo translated what everyone was saying, pointing at each person non-threateningly as she did so to make it easiest to follow along.

While Shilo was explaining everything to Asuka, she realized something and she pushed herself into a standing position, leaving Asuka's side for a moment as she allowed Lucario and Frank to add their thoughts to the already convoluted situation. "That... wait." She interjected. "Are there three specific locations that these people are being taken or is it just every laundry mat, coat tailor, and ice cream parlor around this area?" She asked, the ambiguous statement making her narrow her eyes. No wonder these people haven't figured this out yet, if this is how they give their information. She thought to herself as she took a silent breath through her nose. "Are the stores they've been kidnapped from wide reaching branches or family owned businesses? What are the financial situations these businesses are facing? Can we have a list of the people who were kidnapped? This could have nothing to do with the businesses but everything to do with the individuals. You need to give us a hell of a lot more information than you have if you want us to be of any help." Shilo pointed out, crossing her arms over her chest again.

The leader of Team 73 wasn't about to waste her time on a case when the person asking for help was going to be unable or unwilling to provide any information that could be helpful. She wanted to help, obviously, she wasn't about to let possibly innocent people get hurt, but god dammit they needed more information. "This could also be a gang. The people being kidnapped are middle class or higher right?" Shilo chewed on the inside of her lip. "Has there been any financial crises in this city as of late?" She asked, meeting the gaze of Mr. Bigby Wolf.

Asuka now understood what the people around her, including B. Wolf himself, were saying. Not only that, but the fact that the detective included ice cream parlors while explaining where the kidnappings took place made her intrigued and more likely to stay on board. However, she had no idea what the word "kidnapping" meant, because she was never taught that, let alone many other concepts that adults know, at all. So her excitement from hearing the word "ice cream parlor" evaporated, leaving her confused. She would ask Shilo what a kidnapping is and how it's bad, but since she was talking to Mr. Bigby, she instead waited.

"Must be some damn incompetent gang if they're kidnapping people at laundry mat and ice cream parlors." Bigby said to Shilo before placing both palms down on the desk in front of him and pushing himself up to his feet. After taking one final drag pf the cigarette, Bigby dropped it to the ground and stomped it out with his foot.

Turning to face Frank, Bigby only shook his head. "No. None of the victims have shown up dead or alive since they disappeared. It's almost like they disappeared out of thin air."

After opening the door to his office, Bigby led the group outside to the wide streets of Millennium City. As you walked outside, the cool air immediately hit you, the bright sun quickly blinding some of you after you had grown used to the dark setting of the office.

"Alright. We're splitting up into three groups. Each of you head to the areas and gather the info you can. That way, we can cover as much ground as possible before the end of the day." Bigby said, seeming to entertain Frank's idea of splitting up. "I'll be taking the laundry mat."

Looks like you have three options. You could either head to the laundry mat with Bigby, or you could go to the ice cream parlor or coat tailor.

Asuka

"Eisdiele! (Ice cream parlor!)"

Asuka happily shouted, voting for, you guessed it, the ice cream parlor, as she jumped in excitement with her hands up before quickly turning her eyes from left to right. However, she had realized that she had briefly forgotten that nobody except for Shilo spoke her language, so she quieted down and waited for the woman to translate her option.

  • Frank quietly listened and observed his (possibly temporary) "allies" before nodding, beginning to head out.

"Well, if someone at least looks after the Na- I mean, German girl- then I'd be fine heading to the tailor. Feel free to join me- or not, if you don't like me. Not like I really care; looks didn't matter in 'Nam anyways," The Marine responded, taking a few moments in the doorway to shield his eyes before heading out. However, he did slow down a tad bit to compensate for the others' potential indecision on whether or not to join Woods.

Lucario

My past... it's happening again...

Lucario considered the choices carefully. The ice cream parlor sounded like a delicio- er, useful place to be, but from the last two fights Lucario had been in, he could tell Asuka and Baiken were capable enough on their own. Lucario also had a sneaking suspicion that the others would most likely join in. It's what he would do, anyway. It'd certainly take his mind off of all the stress clouding him.

Lucario fought those thoughts off. If his guesses were correct, then he'd need to pick another location other than the most obvious answer. He looked back at Bigby. There was something about him that told Lucario that he had much experience as a lone wolf- perhaps his gruff appearance was the cause, and choosing to not go to... what had he called it? A laundry mat? No matter its name, the canine guessed Bigby might do better on its own.

Lucario's ears perked up when Frank volunteered to visit the tailor. Frank was one of the smartest fighters on their team, and Lucario trusted him more than anyone else. Considering he only felt this way a handful of times, that was saying something about Frank's leadership ability. That settled it for him.

"I'll go with Frank," Lucario confirmed. Still, no matter how much he put his trust in the soldier, he just couldn't shake the strange feeling he felt in his heart. The worry of the situation was getting to him. Disappearances... another reminder of his past so soon after the fight with the buggy...

No! I can't think about that! Lucario scolded himself. His emotional reaction to the previous battle was already unsettling enough. He endangered so many lives... would he be able to handle this? ...Y-yes, I can, he reassured himself uncertainly. O-of course I can...

Interaction "Alright, alright...no need for the head cutting! We'll go. I kinda like my head. Losing it means I lose this devilishly handsome face." Delsin gestured to his grinning face. He wondered why Baiken was so eager to go to the ice cream parlor. Sure, ice cream was awesome, but this seemed a bit much. Besides, why is she dragging him and Jak along with her. He assumed that it was because they were her only companions currently, but seemed that there might be something more. Soon afterwards, the little German girl in a robot suit exclaimed something in German, that Delsin did not understand at all. However, he was guessing that the little girl wanted to go to the ice cream shop with them. She could have easily said coat tailor or the laundro, but... What kind of sane kid would turn down a chance to get ice cream. Well, maybe lactose intolerant kids, but they don't count. Do they? Guess the spray paint continue to be put on hold.

Delsin looked up at her and began an awkward pantomine to speak to her. "You." Delsin pointed at the girl with both hands "Want." Delsin pretended to hold something in his hands. "To come with us?" He then gestured towards himself and his two companions. "For ice cream?" Delsin pretended to lick an imaginary ice cream cone in his hand. He really hoped she understood, but if not, the edgy looking ninja girl seemed to know German well enough to translate. Still, it would be nice to find a translator

"You're going to call the gang that you can't track down yourself, so you have to ask a group of strangers, incompetent?" Shilo asked Bigby, meeting his gaze with her teal eyes, obviously not afraid of him in the slightest. The assassin probably hadn't been so snippy with the detective if he had answered literally any of her questions, even with an 'I don't know,' instead of ignoring them, or had any information to give them at all, like the basic information he should have as a detective on the case. Shilo looked at everyone else as they decided where to go, her eyes glancing over at Frank and Lucario. "I'll follow them," she decided nodding toward the two.

She wasn't interested in ice cream, after all, she didn't eat sugar for the most part so she wasn't biased toward the ice cream shop like most of the others. She saw potential allies in the Marine and the sentient blue dog creature though. They were both intelligent, and Frank was a Marine, which Shilo had a specific soft spot for due to her best friend and co-leader, Vincent.

Asuka looked at Frank, and was almost alarmed when the SOG agent nearly called her a Nazi in the same vein as Stroheim, the German mad man. She was about to flip out, but then she remembered not only the aformented slip in speech, but also the time she tried to cooperate with the scientist, making her feel a little guilty about it. Then she turned towards Lucario, who agreed to go to the tailor with Frank. She had no significant thoughts about him, other than the fact that he was a strange-looking animal who could talk. Finally, she took the time to take a look at Delsin, who attempted to communicate to her through sign language.

Asuka, being only four, had learned very little sign language; the only words she knows in the language itself are “you”, “me”, “this person”, “go”, “want”, and “tablecloth”. Never had she learned the word “ice cream” in that particular language, and only in the German language did she did know about it. That said, she didn’t know what Delsin meant by imaginatively licking imaginary ice cream, until she recalled the few memories of her licking from full cones of ice cream. Now, she knew what he meant by doing whatever he did; it was “ice cream”. So she nodded towards him.

“... [Ja. (Yes.)]”

Baiken

"Cool..." The samurai says once Delsin and Jak have agreed, but then another person joins in the name of Asuka. She wanted to join them, probably for the ice cream. As Delsin communicated with the mech-riding German girl, the samurai starts to have doubts if the girl is fitted for the mission, but since she is in a mech, then its fine. She went up to Asuka after she has made confirmation to Delsin and say "Shoujo (Little girl), if you want join us just for the ice cream or whatever, I highly suggest that you stick with us. I doubt that your mech can do anything, but stick with us, alright?" She then turns to Delsin and say to him "Delsin, translate with your sign language to let her know what I'm saying. I only say that because...well...she is too young, and I'm worried about her safety." For the first time ever, Baiken is showing doubt and worry. Is this the next step into mellowing out her brash persona?

Interaction "...Ja" The German girl said what Delsin assumed was yes. Baiken then told Delsin to translate her message. "I only say that because...well...she is too young, and I'm worried about her safety." Delsin didn't expect this kind of concern and care coming from Baiken. She seemed like a complete jerk, but as the day went on, she began to show her soft side. She's definitely a tsundere or something like that.

"Uhm...okay...?" Delsin was by no means a professional translator. All he did was play charades with the little girl, but he would try. He turned toward the little girl and began once again, his pantomime. "You." Delsin pointed at the girl with a finger. "Stay." Delsin brought his arms to close his chest. "With us." He then put an arm around Jak and an arm around Baiken. "Safe." Delsin crossed his arms in an "X" shape and clenched his hands. They really had to get a phone or something with a translator app. This is going to be a tedious process, as the ninja girl doesn't seem to want to come with.
