Nation Building Medieval Kingdoms Battle System

This post is about the  battle system used in our RP.

The battle will be decided with a W20 dice, that i will roll (Yes, you will have to trust me.)


At the start, both nations have an equal chance. So 50/50.


10 dice sides for one, 10 for the other.


Now, it all changes a little because of advantages and disadvantages of the soldiers.


For example:


Longbow archers against light infantry with shields:


longbow archers: Ranged +1, Long range +1, bad at close combat -1.


Total: 11 - 9 dice sides.


Light infantry: No armour: - 1, shields + 1, fast movement speed + 1.


Total 10 - 10. (Yes, we are even right now. But wait for more factors.)


Now, what comes into play would be things like terrain, weather, if the soldiers know the land they are fighting in, how they are approaching the battlefield, and the morale of course.


Lets say the archers are on a great plain in their homeland.


Archers: +1 for homeland advantage, + 1 for openfield and little cover.


Light infantry: - 1 unknown lands, - 1 no cover. + 1 open and flat field allows for even faster movement.


13 - 7.


BUT


It rains, and we are experiencing strong winds.


Archers: -1 for rain, - 1 for wind.


11 - 9.


Now the morale bit. Lets say, the archers sat around, did not have to do much, overall pretty neutral.


Archers + 1.


The light infantry though, with little to no causualties just raided many villages, and have won great battles. They are hungry for more, but as said, already a little worn down from the battles before. therefore:


Light infantry + 2. (instead of plus 3, but multiple battles were just too much.)


With morale, you have to reason and say why you think you deserve the bonus. Be honest, be realistic. Its all about fun here.


10 - 10. AN EVEN BATTLE IT SEEMS!

Lets go.


The archers have the number 1- 10, and the light infantrymen 11 - 20.


Let the dice decide!


A 9! The battle is in favor of the archers, But only by a bit! (if the dice had been a 1, it would have been a critical victory, totally killing the hell out of the infantrymen.)


That means that the archer side has still made losses that have to be mentioned, or have been at least receiving heavy injuries.


Is this really a win? Was this worth it? Who knows, but the lands of the archers are defended! And that with even chances.


Further aspects will later be added, or appear ingame. For a good commander, that has proven worthy in previous battles, might raise the morale of his soldiers by a bit, and also even out tactical disadvantages caused by terrain.
