Powers and Abilities
(Copied and pasted from "The Living Shadow" wiki, as is the style right now, it seems.)
  • Hypnosis: he can "cloud men's minds." With the sight of his burning eyes, his foes become intensified with fears, causing them to reveal or confess to a case being investigated by him. This persuasive power can also sway the masses to his will, but to what extent is not fully known.
  • Disguises: Kent Allard is a master of disguises. Of all the skillful tactics adopted by him, none is more subtle than his method of keeping his two personalities entirely distinct. No one has ever mistaken Kent Allard for Lamont Cranston, or vice versa. The Shadow also portrays himself as several other personalities as well. As "Fritz, the janitor" he is able to listen in on conversations at Police Headquarters. Other disguises include: businessman "Henry Arnaud," elderly gentleman "Phineas Twambley," "George Clarendon," "Clifford Gage," "Terry Blake," "Portuguese Joe," "Northrup Lucaster," "Justin Oswood," "Jose Larribez," and "Louis Revoort," to mention only a few.

Weakness
  • The Temple Bells of Neban: can dispel his powers if they're chimed by one who is familiar with their ancient mysteries.

"Otto Octavius was weak. Call me... DOCTOR OCTOPUS!"

Real Name → Otto Octavius

Current Alias → Doctor Octopus; Doc Ock

Affiliation → Himself, the Sinister Six; practically with anyone else who hates Spider-Man or Norman Osborn

Base Of Operations → Otto has several hidden bases that he keeps to reside and plan in, though they are primarily located in New York, usually underground and are most often filled with high tech scientific equipment for whatever scheme he's planning to set into motion next.

Identity → Public Identity, since he doesn't have much of a life anymore as Otto Octavius, and everyone is aware of the accident that happened to him of fusing his robotic arms to his skin and making him known as an outcasted supervillian forevermore.

Citizenship → American

Marital Status → Single (formerly married; wife deceased)

Occupation → Criminal mastermind, head scientist at Oscorp (formerly); regular committer of crimes

Education → Ph.D. in Nuclear physics from M.I.T, honorary doctorate in biochemistry; master's degree in prosthetics and orthotics.

Gender → Male

Height → 5'4

Weight → 145 lbs

Age → 45

Eyes → Chocolate Brown

Hair → Dark brown, nearly black; his hair is beginning to thin around his temples, but once used to be fairly wavy and a bit unruly.

Unusual Features →
Otto Octavius has four extra robotic, mechanical tentacle-like arms which are connected to the back of a harness that became fused to his skin, and are mentally controlled by him with the help of a chip imbedded in the back of his neck. The arms are pure black and very durable metal, with three sharp claws that form pincers on the end of each arm. The arms are quite long and have incredible reach, though they can still retract back into his harness and be fairly inconspicuous underneath his long brown overcoat whenever he wants to conceal them. Otto is quite short and stout for those his age, though not too unnaturally so, but in any case he often uses his extra arms to lift himself high up in the air and intimidatingly hover above others in order to compensate for his lack of intimidating stature. Whenever moving with his own two feet, it can be noticed that Otto moves very stiffly, and often can't perform basic motor easily functions such as reaching behind his neck or doing movements such as twisting a doorknob or opening a lid without a bit of a struggle.

This is because of a genetic degenerative muscle disorder that he has plagued with through his late adulthood, and which is gradually taking away all his motor functions until his body will completely useless and he won't be able to do hardly anything- maybe not even breathe. The fact that he has had the disease for years now is why his movements are becoming almost noticeably shaky and stiff, though he does his best to hide his condition by having his mechanical arms help him with performing trivial tasks such as opening a door or any other complex movements, and he most often can put on the appearance of moving normally enough, though as time passes, his increasing physical frailty becomes more and more apparent, as does his desperation to do something about that torturous fragility.

The accident that made Octavius the monster that he is now caused some brain damage, leading to some memory loss and personality changes as a result, though these symptoms aren't visibly noticeable. Otto also has a recently developed condition called myopia, otherwise known as nearsightedness, which requires prescription eyeglasses, as much as he chafes under the very thought of wearing them, due to not wanting to allow weakness of any kind to show. He hides the necessity of having to use them beneath the darkly shaded goggles he wears over his eyes with his supervillain uniform in order to protect the eyes. He might only ever bother to wear the normal eyeglasses that he used to wear as Otto Octavius whenever attempting to remember what it was like or wistfully reminiscing about being the idealistic, respectable scientist that he had once been. Surprisingly, these rare moments of regret and reflection do actually happen every now and then, despite how fewer and more fleeting these particular instances have tragically become, the more Otto immerses himself into a world of supervillainy and hatred.

Powers and Abilities →

ff2cd70099225abb15c197341f145638.gif

Cybernetic Tentacles: Doctor Octopus' superhuman abilities derive from the four mentally-controlled, electronically-powered, telescoping, prehensile titanium-steel tentacles attached to a stainless steel harness encircling his body from lower chest to waist. Each tentacle, approximately six inches in diameter, terminates in three single-jointed pincers. The pincers are able to rotate in relation to the arm for 360 degrees, in a screwdriver-like twisting motion. Each tentacle segment contains four high-efficiency electric motors equipped with a clutched, helical-gear train, independently mounted on frictionless gimbals and housed in four thin, overlapping layers of titanium-niobium steel. The titanium-steel alloy is light, has high-tensile strength, a high melting point, and high thin-wall rigidity. The motors get their power from a small nuclear-powered thermo-electric generator, which can provide several hundred watts per hour for up to five years before needing to replace its U-239 core. The tentacles have been modified since the time of the original accident that fused them to his skin to include high-efficiency battery packs (enabling movement when cut off from the central power source) and individual micro-circuit control modules (enabling each arm to perform certain pre-programmed actions when Octopus loses conscious control). In the event that Octopus loses consciousness, the control module of each arm has enough pre-programmed conditional responses in its memory chip to enable it to perform a relatively complex sequence of actions, such as saving his life. The trauma of his arm or arms being separated from the harness causes a period of disorientation in which his arms flail about uncontrollably until the pre-programming takes over.

Technopathic Tentacle Manipulation: Octopus can control the actions of his artificial arms psionically, even when they have been severed from his body and are separated from him by vast distances (a distance of 900 miles has been recorded).

Telescoping: Each tentacle is approximately six feet long at full contraction, but can extend to a maximum of 24 feet in length.

Superhuman Striking Force: Each tentacle is capable of moving at a speed of ninety feet per second and strike with the force of a jackhammer.

High-Wind Generation: The tentacles can generate 50 mile per hour winds if spun like a giant fan.

Wall-Climbing and Traveling: By combining the intrinsic strength of both his tentacles and the pincers, Doctor Octopus can scale stone, brick, or concrete walls by rending "handholds" in the surface of the wall. Octopus is able to use his tentacles for traversing horizontal distances as well. At full extension, he can travel high above the ground as if on stilts, either using two tentacles, or for maximum speed (approximately 50 miles per hour), four tentacles.

Sensation Feeling: Although there are no nerve endings throughout the length of his artificial arms, Octopus can "feel" basic sensations with them. As a result of the mutagenic changes from exposure to radiation during the accident, electrical connections have been made from his chest harness to his spine. Thus, Doctor Octopus can mentally perceive "tactile" sensations by feeling the amount of electrical resistance that the pincers' electric motors feel when the pincers grasp an object.

Superhuman Concentration: Doctor Octopus possesses extraordinary mental abilities and concentration, and through months of practice is able to perform two complex and two simple independent actions, simultaneously, one with each arm.

Genius Intelligence: Otto Octavius is a multi-discipline scientist with expertise in various fields of science.

Radiation and Prosthetics Specialist: Doctor Octopus is one of the world's leading authorities on nuclear radiation and specializes specifically in researching its variety of effects on other living beings, even himself. His true passion is prosthetics however, as he is quite an expert in that field as well, such as how to replace lost or dysfunctional limbs as well as how to compensate for them. This is partly due to his own condition that he is desperate to remedy, but once upon a time, he did truly care about helping the whole world with his findings about the effects of radiation and revolutions in prosthetics. Now however, his misguided intelligence and revolutions in both fields of study only benefit himself, though what good any of his knowledge actually does him rather than anyone else is really up to interpretation.

Engineering: Doctor Octopus is a brilliant engineer and inventor, due to his intellect and resourcefulness.

Strength Level: Without the use of his artificial tentacles, Otto possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in no regular exercise, and his muscle disease makes things even more difficult to lift or move around. Each of his tentacles is able to lift approximately 8 tons (provided that Octopus supports his harness with at least one other arm in order to prevent the chest harness/skin interface from bearing any part of the effort). With one arm, Octopus can lift an automobile. With two arms, he can throw an automobile tens of feet, or lift a small bus. The pincers on his arms are capable of gripping with a force of 175 pounds per square inch, sufficient to deform any object made of a thin-walled substance less durable than steel. The pincers can, for instance, crush a handgun. By combining the intrinsic strength of both his tentacles and the pincers, Doctor Octopus can perform such feats as tearing steel doors off bank vaults.

Weaknesses → Despite how much Doctor Octopus might attempt to elavate himself above common humanity, the fact of the matter is, beneath the artificial arms welded onto his body to make him stronger, he really is just a normal human. Because of this, he has the weaknesses that come with being a human as well, no matter how much he attempts to hide this fact. For example, even though Otto has a suit designed for himself that can provide decent shielding against bullets, his head, face, and any other vulnerable spots are still susceptible to bullets or blunt force if he was to be struck by them. Because of having been made just a bit more durable from the excruciatingly painful and biologically altering accident that formed him, he would be able to handle a little more traumatic njury than normal humans before passing out or having a concussion, he'd still immediately succumb to something like a bullet or an inhumanly strong blow to the head. As previously mentioned, Otto has an eventually fatal muscle disease that is slowly beginning to affect him more and more, which can definitely be exploited as a weakness if one notices it or is aware of it. Not only is he very emotionally insecure and inwardly fearful about it, which would lead to uncharacteristically rash thinking, but the disease also causes him to move much more stiffly and sluggishly with his natural arms. Because of this, if someone were to trap him into direct physical combat without his mechanical arms to aid him, he wouldn't stand much of a chance.

If someone were ever to forcibly remove or tear off his robotic tentacles, it would cause Otto to be in extreme physical and mental agony, since it'd be just like ripping off one of his natural limbs with how obsessed and connected he is to his artificial arms, and they're really the only way that he truly feels stronger and more superior than others. While Doctor Octopus is usually quite in control of his mental faculties, considering how he is his strategic and manipulating self and often calmly acts like he is in control of the situation no matter what happens, he does have certain emotional vulnerabilities that can be exposed as well. In one example, if Otto is insulted or taunted long enough, then his damaged pride and ego might be enough to cause him to act irrationally or without much thought in a situation, due to how desperate he would be to reassert his superiority and dominance in the situation, though in the attempt of trying to preserve his pride he would most likely end up sabotaging himself in the process. Otto lost many memories of the life he used to have with a loving wife and a prestigious job, but there are still flickers of his old life that torment him, because he knows that whatever those brief visions of that beautiful but foreign life are, he can't have it. If this weakness was exploited, and his old life was mentioned or talked about frequently, he would be enraged, but also a bit hurt and forlorn about the subject as well, due to how painful it is for him, and would become even more pained and distraught if the topic would be pressed upon further. Doctor Octopus blames Norman Osborn for taking his life away and ruining it completely, so if the man was even mentioned excessively, that would be another cause for him to act in blind rage. Otto also has a slight fear and paranoia about spiders, either the normal kind or the physically altered human ones, which is why he would immediately attempt to squash any he sees in the immediate vicinity, and also always absolutely hates getting defeated and outsmarted by Spider-Man for the sake of his pride, but this particular fear would probably be pretty difficult to exploit due to how deeply he buries it.

(I hope it's alright that I took liberties with the character, and kind of mixed and matched the best of the different versions of him without being completely accurate to the comics like some others have been, but if that wouldn't be okay then just let me know, and I'll be happy to change it!)

Totally! This all looks good to me. Glad to have you.

So, where will this RP be taking place. Im new to this site but experienced in roleplaying. Is it gunna be one of those Thread post rps i could never seem to understand or is it like uh on discord or some chat? Idk how this stuff works chief

Hi there! Welcome to RPN. I'm still a bit new myself, but this roleplay will be done in a forum play-by-post format, like most of the roleplays here. If we do discord, it will be purely for OOC stuff, though there will also be an OOC thread once everything gets set up. I will probably start doing that soon.

Normally I'm apprehensive about players taking on twin characters, but I'm willing to give you a chance with this. So long as you can intertwine them together in your posts and keep it consistent, I won't have any problems.

This still open? Pretty interested.

Glad to have you! Looking forward to your character sheet.

I would also be interested

I believe that brings us up to speed! With a lot of players piling on, I'd like to move forward with the setting and actual RP setup as soon as possible. The updated version of the plot outline is through taking advantage of a post-event aftermath and cartoonish luck only a goober like him could have, Arcade manages to gets his hands on a Cosmic Cube and tries to use it as the basis for his next Murderworld attraction. Naturally, this goes horribly wrong and results in a crack multiverse singularity a la Battleworld, creating an amalgamated setting, albeit with "Murdertopia" as one of the areas that comes into play in this new place. A few other settings that are on the table for this are a version of Wakanda, elements from the 1602 and Noir AUs, Earth-712 (the original Squadron Supreme) and the Ultraverse. With that said, I would like to get input from anyone on settings/universes under the Marvel label that they would like to see in this. Otherwise you'll be privy to dealer's choice, and you may or may not want to play by my preferences alone.

Hmm with this being about murderworld stuff
what is the policy going to be on killing
Should we avoid killing each other and at most maim them
Or just kill at will. I feel odd about this because we each get one character and getting killed seems like a pretty nasty blow.
Bixir Bixir

Given that Arcade's running the show there, it'll likely be open season for the most part, but at the end of the day character death is up to the players involved and what is or isn't in the interest of the roleplay. Character death likely won't happen for the reason that you stated but I also don't want to remove stakes entirely, especially given Arcade's M.O. Murdertopia is also only one of the planned settings for this, so players won't necessarily be shoehorned into starting there unless they want to. It's likely that that might be where many of you start, since it's the urban hub, of sorts (one of them, anyway). That can be a point of discussion on settings, though, if players want specific kinds of playgrounds to run around in.

I mean provided we get back to the real universe eventually it seems fine. Plus its not like this is Gwens first time dealing with Arcade,

When Crenando Crenando invited me here, he probably wasn't expecting this. If we're only allowed one character, you bet I'm picking the guy with the best walk, talk, pizzaz, and class.

... I am more than amused by the prospect of a battle of wits ... though I fear that with you as an opponent... the struggle might well be brief.
Doctor Doom

davide-tosello-doom.jpg

Real Name → Victor von Doom
Current Alias → Doctor Doom
Affiliation → Latveria, Hydra, Intelligencia, Knights of the Atomic Round Table
Base Of Operations → Castle Doom, Doomstadt, Latveria; Latverian Embassy, etc

Identity → Public Identity
Citizenship → Latverian
Marital Status → Unmarried
Occupation → Adventurer, scientist, monarch of Latveria, leader of an order of Tibetan monks
Education → College studies in the sciences (expelled before degree completion); self-educated to graduate level and beyond in most sciences; self-taught knowledge of the mystic arts of magic

Gender → Male
Height → 6'2; 6'7 when armored
Weight → 225lbs; 415lbs when armored
Eyes → Brown
Hair → Brown
Unusual Features → So ugly it made Stan Lee panic when he took off his mask; severe burn (probably ectoplasmic) scarring on his face

Powers and Abilities
- Magic: Doctor Doom was introduced to the mystic arts by his mother (who was of Romani and Latverian blood). He further developed his abilities by traveling through time and learning lost Dark Arts from individuals such as Morgan le Fey.
- Psionics: Throughout his history, Doom always searched for ways to augment himself. Due to his encounter with aliens and mutants, named the Ovoids and the Marquis of Death, Doom has evolved as a being, though it is not clarified how or to what extent. It is for sure though that he has acquired telepathic powers in the process. Those skills are the result of personal mental development and are not to be confused with magic.
- Super-Genius Intelligence: Doctor Doom's most dangerous weapon is his intellect. He is one of the top mortal minds on the planet. Doom has constructed hundreds of devices, including a working time machine, devices which can imbue people with powers, and many types of robots. His most frequently used robots are his "Doombots," exact mechanical replicas of the himself. They look like him, talk like him, and even act like him. Individually, Doombots have an advanced AI (artificial intelligence) so that each one believes itself to be the real Doom. As a safety measure, each Doombot has a dampener program that is triggered whenever the real Doom (or another Doombot) is nearby. These "body doubles" appear when Doom cannot be present or is unwilling to risk his own life, and are often responsible for Doom's seeming return from certain death. Another common type of robot used is the Servo-Guard, the police force of Latveria. Doom specializes in physics, robotics, cybernetics, genetics, weapons technology, biochemistry, and time travel. He also has natural talents for leadership, strategy, politics, and manipulation.
- Master Martial Artist: During his time in Tibet, Doom was trained in martial arts by the monks. He is vastly skilled in many combat techniques, both armed and unarmed. He has been trained by the best swordmasters on Earth and can achieve very powerful nerve strikes.
- Peak Human Conditioning: Doom has trained his body to the level of the finest human athlete. He is well-built, fast and agile. He has also displayed great reflexes and equilibrium. His physical strength and durability surpass even those of Daredevil.
- Indomitable Will: Doom has a great willpower. He was able to resist psychic attacks from Emma Frost and the Purple Man using only his will, to reject the mystical armor that the Soulsword provides the wielder on sheer willpower alone and while he was tortured in Hell, he refused to let a single audible indication of pain exit his mouth.
- Highly Influential Connections: As Monarch of Latveria, Doctor Doom has access to technological and military hardware. He also has command of conventional military forces.
- Charismatic Leader: Doom is able to attract people's positive attraction, especially on the citizens of Latveria, even when his plans are failing. He is also a skilled politician and strategist and has occasionally been the leader of numerous teams, including the Cabal and the Fantastic Four.
- Diplomatic Immunity: As the leader of a sovereign nation, Doctor Doom often visits the United States or the United Nations for political reasons. He enjoys diplomatic immunity during these trips, and his embassy is considered foreign soil.
- Artist: Doom has shown himself to be a talented artist. He painted a duplicate of the Mona Lisa while using Layla Miller as his model.
- Pianist: Doom has shown himself to be a talented pianist. He has played various compositions of his own creation.
- Master Swordsman: Doom has been shown being proficient in sword combat, having been trained by the best teachers - until he overcame them all - and being able to out-duel Warlord Krang in swordmanship.
- Doomisms: Well known for badass quotes and proverbs.

Weakness
Ego: It has been shown in the past that Doom can be manipulated by pandering to his sense of superiority, especially over Reed Richards. Spider-Man was able to gain his assistance concerning unknown technology by saying Reed could not figure it out. This ego is also the main reason for his vendetta against Reed, as he cannot accept that Reed understood his equations better than he did.

Powers and Abilities ↴ Regular human limitations. Trained SHIELD agent, experienced in hand to hand combat, espionage, and the use of nearly any weapon. Very bright, strategic thinker. Strenuous exercise ensures above average strength and athleticism.

Weakness ↴ Oftentimes rigid and reluctant to disobey the law or her superiors. Blunt and often uncharismatic -- her strong personality often means she clashes with people.

notes: I write her as a lesbian.

Just a few ideas:
  • Savage Land
  • Days of Future Past
  • Future Imperfect
  • Spider-Island
  • Clone Saga
  • Planet of the Symbiotes
  • Subterranea
  • Sakaar
  • Negative Zone
  • Inferno
  • Age of Apocalypse
  • Secret Empire
  • Attilan
  • Squadron Supreme
  • Marvel Zombies
  • Marvel Apes
  • Femizonia
  • Age of Ultron
  • House of M
I get the feeling some of them would of been mentioned previously but wasn't completely sure. I'll see if any others spring to mind.

Im not hard to please. Although, just watched Jurassic world and how that Indoraptor fights is ironically similar to how I imagined close combat dragon Deimos to work.

Eventually, yeah, but I wouldn't put that anywhere in the foreseeable future. Battleworld arcs in general, even the more concise ones, tend to end up drawn out in RPs, depending on how long we want the various parts and pieces of the amalgamated setting to play out. As I develop the plot(s) further this is something we can discuss as a group.

I was honestly wondering if anyone was going to go for the classic Battleworld big bad. Given that most of the cast is street to medium-tier, try not to get too crazy, but I look forward to the Doom all the same. It looks like we're going to have a Latveria after all!

Very interesting choice. This actually gives me a few new ideas, both narratively and who I might pick for my character. You're good to go!

Just a few ideas:
  • Savage Land
  • Days of Future Past
  • Future Imperfect
  • Spider-Island
  • Clone Saga
  • Planet of the Symbiotes
  • Subterranea
  • Sakaar
  • Negative Zone
  • Inferno
  • Age of Apocalypse
  • Secret Empire
  • Attilan
  • Squadron Supreme
  • Marvel Zombies
  • Marvel Apes
  • Femizonia
  • Age of Ultron
  • House of M
I get the feeling some of them would of been mentioned previously but wasn't completely sure. I'll see if any others spring to mind.

I was definitely going to include Savage Land, Negative Zone, Age of Apocalypse, and Squadron Supreme. A few of these definitely aren't making the cut, like Age of Ultron or Marvel Zombies, but this is a solid litmus test for what I had in mind.

When I get back from the movies tonight I'll try to hash out a core range of settings that will make up the Murderworld/Battleworld "plane" so you guys have a better idea of what direction we'll be going in. I'm also going to look into setting up the forum/multi-thread for this. If there is anyone here familiar with how I go about doing that, please hit me up in a PM with those details. It's coming, guys!

It seems most people are indifferent but from what I take itseems like Savage Lands is a good starter. Or some other primitive landscape. Would really tune up the survival aspect in my opinion. Then moving along we could get more modern.

I mean Gwen will likely know a few characters or can read up on them, though other way around? maybe not as much unless directly interacted.

here's my oc:

Real Name → Scott Anderson
Current Alias → n/A
Affiliation → n/A
Base Of Operations → Toronto, Canada (Hometown, former), Central Park, New York (current)

Identity → Public Identity
Citizenship → Canadian, American
Marital Status → Single
Occupation → Music Store Clerk
Education → Unknown primary, middle and high school in Canada

Gender → Male
Height → 5'11"
Weight → 167 lbs
Eyes → Hazel (Left), Baby Blue (Right)
Hair → Jet Black
Unusual Features → Scott has heterochromia ever since birth, result in his right eye being baby blue, while his left is hazel. Strangely, ever since his powers were discovered, his right eye tends to glow in the dark, and sometimes acts as a source of light. This only happens when he isn't wearing his glasses, in which the lenses reverts both eyes to hazel.

Powers and Abilities

Power(s)
- Electricity Generation: Scott can generate electricity without having to look for sources of electricity.
- Electrokinetic Flight: Scott can fly, glide and levitate through manipulation of electricity, allowing himself to fly at different speeds, and propel himself with an enhanced jump with a short burst of electricity.
- Electricity Attacks: Scott release/use electricity for various attacks, such as hand blasts, creating electric bombs, *CQC etc.(*his hits have more power, so he is able to hit enemies to further distances) Scott can increase the amount of electricity he uses in combat, however he may tire out more quickly. If he exceeds too much, it may cause his powers to cancel out for an indefinite period of time or may ultimately kill him.
- Electrical Transportation/Teleportation: Scott has the ability to teleport himself via electrons in the air at will, although he can only teleport to a max of 10 metres.
- Electric Conductivity/Electric Heating: Scott can conduct, heat, and/or charge objects with electricity.
- Electricity Solidification: Scott can manipulate electrons to solidify the electricity, with the level of solidity going from loose jelly to metal-like hardness or beyond. However, he only uses this power to give to whoever he meets and trusts a solidified ball of electricity, using this more as a gift giver than to fight.
- Electric Flyrogenesis: Scott can create an electrical force field to protect himself or others from harm.

Ability(s)
- Mixed Fighting Styles: As a child till he was 14, Scott was trained by his late father in Karate, though he only knew basic moves. Scott also implements different moves he's seen from wrestling and movies, otherwise Scott is mostly seen as a brawler.

Weakness

- If Scott is submerged in water, his powers will cancel out, but will return in time (depends on the amount of time it takes for him to fully dry out). Strangely, the natural rain does not affect this.

Just a few ideas:
  • Secret Empire
This piques my interest, more because of my character choice than knowing anything about the story itself. The Secret Empire is an extension of the kinds of foes The Shadow would be facing anyways.

How would a setting dedicated to this arc work, though?

At its simplest, it would be something like a Hydra controlled domain ruled over by an evil Captain America with an Underground network of heroes fighting against him.
